Fandom Specific Plot / The Loud House

  • While still a burgeoning field, several fanfics involve giving Leni a Superpowered Evil Side that's been repressed through medicationand then let it out.
  • On the flip side, Leni's personality can be related to her needing meds that help her focus; however, she doesn't remember to take them, and as such, is the canonical ditz. It varies whether or not she's aware of how ditzy she is, but if she is, she usually hates it.
  • Taking advantage of the sisters' various personalities by shifting the focus away from Lincoln and onto them, either individually or paired with another (Lisa and Luna, Luan and Lucy, etc.).
  • There are many Fix Fics, Deconstruction Fics, Accusation Fics, Dark Fics and Revenge Fics for the episode "No Such Luck", to the point that they have pretty much become their own genre within the fandom. The episode involves Lincoln's family ostracizing him due to perceiving him as bad luck. It's played for laughs, but involves such things as making an eleven-year-old sleep outside at night, which fans felt went too far and was Out of Character for his sisters and parents. Invariably, many fics for the episode involve Lincoln being kidnapped/killed due to his family's neglect, running away, or feeling depressed due to thinking his family doesn't love him. Similarly, Lincoln's status as a Butt-Monkey has been repeatedly called out as unfair and harmful to everyone involved. The more forgiving of these stories show the family trying to regain Lincoln's love and trust, but the harsher ones have them suffer horribly for what they did.
  • Less so than "No Such Luck", but the Season 2 episode "Brawl in the Family" has also received many Deconstruction Fics that punish the entire family.
  • One of Luan's pranks ends up going terribly wrong and lands one of her siblings, usually Lincoln (but after "Fool's Paradise", Lisa, Lana or even Lily are starting to pop up), in the hospital in critical condition, prompting the rest of the family to chew her out and unofficially disown her. Luan is horrified at what she's wrought and tries desperately to redeem herself. And some authors take the above premise and go full on Death Fic with the prank's failure.
  • The well received fic Requiem for a Loud started a trend of Follow the Leader fics with a "[x] is terminally ill and/or dies" or "[x] gets seriously ill or injured and suffers permanent, often crippling, damage" plot. Lincoln is mostly the one suffering, followed by Lynn (especially of the "crippling" plots since her physical fitness is a cornerstone of the sports she loves) and Lisa (due to her playing with dangerous chemicals).
  • "Lincoln is adopted" is extremely popular and comes in two flavors: A) Lincoln discovers he's adopted and deals with the resulting Adoption Angst, or B) an orphaned Lincoln ends up coming in contact with the rest of the Louds and ends up adopted, not always immediately officially but almost ultimately that way, by them. This plot is so common that the series itself even had an episode where Lincoln wonders if he's adopted (he's not though).
  • Fanfics that focus on Luna often involve Sam. It either details Luna coming out as bisexual to the rest of her family or it doesn't work out, which sets Luna up in pursing a different love interest (usually someone's Original Character). Expect tons of Gayngst in either case. The "not working out" used to be in the form of Sam rejecting Luna's love letter from "L is for Love" (possibly due to an Incompatible Orientation), but once that was debunked by canon, it became more common to have Sam dumping Luna.
  • Regarding Alternate Universe fics:
    • Stories featuring or centered on the gender-flipped Loud kids from "One of the Boys" are very popular, though those of the briefly-seen universe with Linka and her brothers are typical, with most fans ignoring the all-boys universe that Lincoln was in for most of the episode.
    • Stories set in the Full House Gang universe from the comics made by Lincoln and Clyde tend to follow the Wake Up, Go to School & Save the World lives of Ace Lincoln and his sisters.
      • A less common related trend is giving the siblings original powers and a different superhero team name. It roughly follows the same idea, but lets the writers get more creative.
    • The rabbit versions of the Louds seen in "White Hare" are also seen occasionally, though not as often.
    • Other AU fic variations also exist, such as swapping the siblings' ages and birth orders around, which changes character dynamics by quite a bit.
  • Adding an additional Loud sibling, sometimes an OC and sometimes a character from another fandom, is a very popular idea, with giving Lincoln a twin sister (commonly dubbed "Liberty" as a type of Theme Twin Naming [Abraham Lincoln is credited with giving liberty to the slaves] that also fits with the Alphabetical Theme Naming) being a big thing (also popular in "Lincoln being adopted as an 11-year-old is a major plot point" stories, though some of those have her be a Posthumous Character). Usually these fics are alternate universe, though a few involve Rita giving birth to a twelfth baby. If the extra Loud sibling is a boy, expect allusions to the fact that Lincoln is no longer the only boy in the house, but that the girls still greatly outnumber the boys. That said, a disproportionate number of these OC-sibling fics are little more than just the transcript of an episode being copied word for word, with a few lines of dialogue or small scenes for the OC being shoehorned in, resulting in a fic that is basically just a retelling of the episode in question with the OC causing little to no differences to the story.
  • A little less common are fics where a new family moves into the Louds' neighborhood. They invariably get involved and make friends with the Louds.
  • A few fanfics exist of one of the older Loud sisters becoming pregnant. Most likely the ones who do get pregnant are Lori (almost always by Bobby), Leni or Luna. Some of these works reveal that one of Lily's older "sisters" is actually her mother like in The Blooming Lily.
  • Following their Karma Houdini status in "Really Loud Music", fans are taking it upon themselves to see that Michelle and Doug get Laser-Guided Karma for their bullying of Luna, often with one or more of her sisters and/or brother taking deep offense on her behalf and taking matters into their own hands.
  • The Reveal about Lynn's hellish experiences in sixth grade in "Middle Men" has prompted fans to write stories where either A) Lincoln confronts the other teens about the matter, leading to sibling bonding and commiseration or B) an AU occurs because one of the older girls finds out about Lynn's troubles and is not happy in the slightest, leading to them taking on the bullies on Lynn's behalf. This can also play out in the form of a proceeding episode's plot (usually ones that show Lynn in her worst light) taking a detour so that the reveal from "Middle Men" happens earlier, leading to sibling bonding.
  • Any story featuring the Loud children in their future adult lives will invariably have Lincoln as a comic book/strip artist or cartoonist, even though that's just one of his potential goals in life. After all, it's the one occupation Lincoln already shows talent at, and is considered the most fitting to him due to the show's very own comic-esque aesthetic.
  • The series is prone to Incest Yay Shipping, which is given the nickname "Loudcest" and usually involves shipping Lincoln with his sisters, even Lily. This has spun off into an entire Fan Verse called Sin Kids, focusing on the fanmade love children of Lincoln and his sisters.
  • In the episode "Sleuth or Consequences", Lucy clogs the toilet trying to flush a comic she's embarrassed about liking and Lincoln takes the fall for it. Quite a few fanfics involve her admitting that she was the one who clogged the toilet, either as the central plot or as subplot to a larger story (usually one where the sisters have to regain Lincoln's forgiveness because of something they did).
  • One of Lisa's experiments causing something weird to happen to one/two/several/all of her siblings is common (for instance, Shrinkin' Lincoln involves Lincoln being shrunk and Inside Loud involves all the Loud kids switching bodies).
  • A fandom-specific plot that was quite popular during the early days of the show was the "Nice Sisters vs. Mean Sisters", which pretty much divided the 10 sisters in these two categories, with the Mean ones (Lori, Luan, Lynn, Lola and Lisa) always berating and abusing Lincoln, while the Nice ones (Leni, Luna, Lucy, Lana and Lily) defend him. This began to die out when the sisters got numerous A Day in the Limelight episodes exploring their characters.
  • Even before "No Such Luck" aired, stories of Lincoln running away from home were already popular. Most of these follow the same basic formula; Lincoln gets fed up with his family, and they with him. He runs away. His family instantly goes from being mad at him to having a collective My God, What Have I Done? moment. While away from home, Lincoln is sometimes taken in by an OC. Something bad befalls him that makes him regret his choice. He returns home, and all is forgiven.
  • One of the sisters who isn't straight (usually Luna, but any given sister could be used if the writer makes her bi/pan/otherwise-not-straight; ace-aro Lynn is also a possibility) is victimized and/or abducted by Heteronormative Crusaders. Said crusaders can also target Clyde due to either wanting to hurt his two dads by proxy and/or assuming he's gay due to his fathers "corrupting" him . Depending on the author, Lincoln can get caught up in either version of the plot just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time; typically, if he's kidnapped too, he gets used as leverage so the real target won't act up (and might even be a case of the kidnappers assuming he's not straight due to his relationships).
  • "X gets kidnapped" stories see decent popularity; Lincoln is by far the most popular target, mostly because there are so many possible reasons, ranging from blackmailing someone who cares about him to For the Evulz, but Clyde sees decent popularity too and any of the Loud girls could be the target of I Have You Now, My Pretty at the hands of an Abhorrent Admirer or a blackmail plot targeting someone who cares about them. And in addition to all that, Lynn and Luan actually have built-in reasons for kidnapping based on their hobbies; Lynn could be targeted based on something to do with her sports, such as "get her out of the way so her team loses the upcoming match" or "taking revenge because our team lost to hers", while Luan could be targeted because of a prank that was particularly unappreciated by the targets.
  • Some stories involve Luan struggling with sadness. This sadness could be feeling unappreciated, being bullied at school, loneliness, or even straight-up depression, and she will either hide it behind her comedy or give up comedy due to it. A common fanon explanation for her going crazy on April Fool's Day is to get revenge on her family for never laughing at her jokes, a desperate attempt at getting people to laugh, or due to psychological problems, which could range from depression to violent insanity.
  • Many fanfics revolve around Lincoln getting boiling mad at his sisters (whether by rewriting him as hating living with them or by them screwing up somehow) and the sisters trying to make amends. It could lead to the "running away" plot, but it could just as well simply lead to him yelling at them or giving them the Silent Treatment.
  • Some stories give Lincoln a closest sister, who he loves more than the others. This will generally be either Leni (due to her kind personality), Luna (due to her bonding with him in "For Bros About to Rock"), Lynn or Lucy (due to them being the closest in age). She will often serve to cheer up Lincoln, be cheered up by Lincoln, or be the only one siding with him when the rest are angry at him. In "Lincoln runs away" stories, she will often care the most about finding Lincoln, in "Lincoln is angry" stories she will often be the only sister Lincoln isn't mad at (possibly with the exception of Lily), and in "No Such Luck" stories, she will be the only sister who entertains the possibility of Lincoln not being bad luck. A subset of this is the idea that Luna is Lincoln's "guardian", but that's fallen out of use lately.
  • One (or two in the case of the twins) of the Loud siblings being born is a common theme in fics set in the past.
  • Lincoln having a Near-Death Experience is pretty common. For added angst, often one of the sisters caused it in some way and she will be wracked with guilt. Can lead to the "crippling" plot.
  • One or more of the sisters severely beating Lincoln, then having a My God, What Have I Done? moment and attempting to make amends. Syngenesophobia is the most well-known of these.
  • Lisa having a fear that she finds embarrassing due to feeling it doesn't befit someone as smart as her, and being consoled by a sibling who tells her that Fear Is Normal, is a common one. See Irrational Fear for the most common example.
  • Perhaps popularised by Mall Rats (TLH), two of the Loud siblings having a fun day out is common in some fanfics.
