Drinking Game / The Monkees

Workout version: Jump rope or do cardio through every song, and do a quick exercise of your choice in place of each drink.

• Drink once when they're driving the Monkeemobile.

• Drink twice when someone's GONE!

• Drink once when the landlord complains about something.
  • Twice when he's right but the Monkees talk him out of it.

• Drink once when they all pop up in matching outfits besides their band uniforms or suits. (Monkeemen, matadors, etc.)
  • This doesn't count if it's one of the music video "romps" or the Title Sequence.

• Drink once when someone talks directly to the audience, especially later in the series when they're getting tired of the studio's comedy playbook.
  • If going off-script is the whole plot of the episode, like the concert or the Paris trip, either finish the glass or take a break.

• Drink once when the plot involves bringing down a scam operation.

• Drink once when the plot involves a Monkee's new girlfriend.

• Drink once if the plot involves saving a bandmate or if the group is in trouble.

• Drink once when the girl of the week seems like a reasonably normal person. (More likely in the first season.)

• Drink once per episode when a younger person's casual outfit would look all right on the street today.
  • Suits don't count.

• Drink once when one or more of them is wearing a silly mustache or beard.

• Drink once when they're riding unicycles or motorcycles.
  • Twice when they're riding motorcycles indoors.
    • Knock back the glass when Peter rides a horse indoors.

• Drink once when too many people get stuck trying to go through a doorway at the same time.

• Drink twice when anyone says "Don't do that!"

• Drink once when any of the Monkees are trying not to laugh. (This one will be pretty reliable.)

• Drink once when one of the Monkees is in drag.
  • Take a second one when another man asks him out. (Might as well just take two drinks.)

• Drink once when Davy and a girl exchange starry-eyed looks.

• Drink once when Davy's walking on the beach to "I Wanna Be Free" to show that he's troubled.

• Drink once when Davy says "You must be joking!" or "I am standing up!"

• Drink once when Micky imitates a celebrity or a goofy accent.
  • Twice if the celebrity isn't James Cagney. (That's the raspy "You Dirty Rat!" voice.)

• Drink once when Micky's doing parkour moves around the apartment.

• Drink once when Micky says, "Isn't that dumb?" or complains about the writers.

• Drink once when Mike does an exaggerated Texan accent.
  • Twice if the part he's playing is spectacularly mismatched with a Texan accent.

• Drink once per episode when someone gets Mike's last name wrong. They usually need at least five tries.

• Drink once when Mike says "Save the Texas Prairie Chicken".
  • Use your own judgment on the outtakes.

• Drink once when Peter takes a figure of speech literally.
  • Twice when he has props to back it up.

• Drink once when Peter cries.
  • Twice if it's another Monkee. Onion Tears count.
  • When three of them get upset together, you don't have to take five or six drinks. It's okay to choose one guy.

• Drink once when Peter unexpectedly demonstrates a cool skill.

• Drink twice when you recognize a bit part actor from another role on the same series.
  • Hint: Watch for the lady with short red hair or Valerie Kairys, the cool blonde girl.

• Drink twice when a guest star from another show appears, like the Penguin from Batman (1966) or Thing from The Addams Family.

• Drink once when a brand mascot like Mr. Clean appears or any other Product Placement. The Kellogg's ad can start you off.
