Richard Mulligan (November 13, 1932 – September 26, 2000) was an American actor born in New York City. He was best known for his roles as Burt Campbell on Soap and Harry Weston on Empty Nest, each of which would earn him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. He is the only person to win this award for his role in two different series.

He was married four times and had one son and his brother was director Robert Mulligan.

Mulligan died in 2000 at the age of 67 from colorectal cancer.
