The show aired 1991 to 1994 for three seasons.

Tropes for the show:

  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: Jack Trenton in seasons 2 and 3, a white-collar criminal doing community service in the hospital, and who is the only character who really doesn't care about the patients.
  • I Have a Family: One episode has two employees slacking off come across a construction worker in trouble. They're reluctant to help, as it will reveal that they've been playing hooky.
First Employee: But what if he has a family?
Second Employee: Oh, come on. What are the odds of that?
Construction Worker: I have a family!
  • Cross Through:
    • The episode "Begone With the Wind" featured a hurricane that also appeared in the Golden Girls hour-long episode episode "The Monkey Show" and the Empty Nest episode "Windy", all originally broadcast on 2 November 1991.
    • They did it again on 29 February 1992, with "Moon Over Miami" featuring the characters acting strangely due to a full moon, as did the Golden Girls hour-long episode "A Midwinter Night's Dream" and the Empty Nest episode "Dr Weston and Mr Hyde".
  • Inadvertent Entrance Cue: In the episode ''Moon Over Miami", the characters are discussing whether the full moon increases sexual energy, and Dr Riskin claims "Every oversexed nut in town is having a field day". Cue a Required Spin Off Crossover from Blanche Devereaux.
  • Not My Lucky Day: Minor subversion: One episode has the nurses' lottery ticket numbers are drawn - but the person who bought the ticket got one of the numbers wrong. But this time, they actually do realize that 5 of 6 numbers wins them a good deal of money, after Aesop on how they really do care about the people who screwed up.
  • One-Word Title: Nurses.
  • Required Spin Off Crossover: In addition to the fellow medical professionals of Empty Nest, there were also a few appearances by the Golden Girls, including Rose as a hospital volunteer.
  • Scale Model Destruction: One is implied to be destroyed after an administrator makes one character's life miserable, topped off with his annoying habit of pointing out locations on a model of the hospital he keeps in his office. The last scene shows the character breaking into the office and mocking this habit, followed by an external shot and the sound of a chainsaw.
