Mac McDonald, born Terence McDonald, (18 July 1949), is an American actor living in the UK best known for playing Captain Hollister in Red Dwarf.
Once he left school, he began a stage career in comedy and music. He decided to travel through Europe in 1974, and in Amsterdam accepted an invitation to live in a commune in North London, where he began to busk as the Human Jukebox.
In 1982, he formed a musical comedy troupe with two others known as "The Cheap Shots", which lead to "The Chip Shop Show" which spoofed musicals on London's alternative comedy circuit. After this came TV work, with McDonald mostly being Typecast as American characters.
In 1988, he took the role of Captain Hollister on Red Dwarf, making recurring appearances in the first two series, being brought back as an Ascended Extra in Series VIII, and appearing in a guest role in Series XII's "Skipper".
