Henry Gibson (born James Bateman; September 21, 1935 – September 14, 2009) was an American actor known for his comically eccentric roles.

He started out in the '60s with guest appearances on a number of television series, first becoming a household name as a cast member on Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, where his specialty was reciting satirical poetry in hippie attire.

On the big screen, he was known for his appearances in several Robert Altman films (most notably as country singer Haven Hamilton in Nashville), and for his role as the leader of the "Illinois Nazis" in The Blues Brothers. He also did extensive voice acting work in animation.

He died of cancer in 2009, one week shy of his 74th birthday.
