Continuity Nod / The Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures

Go To

There are A LOT of old school AVGN references in this game.

  • In his A Nightmare on Elm Street video, the Nerd notes that due to the game's ample number of stock Halloween enemies, a better name for the game could've been Boo! Haunted House, which eventually became the name for one of the levels.
    • A Freddy Krueger knockoff even appears teamed up with a Jason Voorhees knockoff as a Dual Boss, known as "Bimmy and Jimmy".
    • Their presence is announced via a screen that says "BIMMY'S COMING!". The Nerd mocked a similar screen being in A Nightmare on Elm Street.
    • Pat the NES Punk is one of the cameos in this level. When you find him, he asks the Nerd if he found another NWC cartridge, referencing that he smashed it at the end of his review with him.
  • Similarly, in his "Winter Games" video, he called the game a "blizzard of balls", which was the name of another level.
  • The "Beat It & Eat It" is based off of the "Atari Porn" video, even with its name being taken from a game the Nerd discussed in the aforementioned video.
  • The "beginner's trap" down the level's 1st ladder that the Nerd devised in his Super Pitfall video appears in the Dungeons & Dickholes level, though sadly it's missing the laser cannons (and obviously doesn't spawn you falling down it).
  • The "Future Fuckballs 2010" level is based off of Street Fighter 2010.
    • A specific type of enemy is ROB the Robot.
    • There's a segment in the level inspired by Silver Surfer (1990), where the Nerd uses the Surfer's board.
    • The same level also has Skylar from Cybermorph (from the Atari Jaguar videos), who is known for her line "Where did you learn to fly?"
    • Upon defeating Skylar, the Nerd even says the same thing he did upon killing her in his Atari Jaguar video: "Where did you learn to be an asshole?"
  • At the start of the game, the Nerd is transported to Game Land via an arm reaching out of the TV.
  • The Game Graphic Glitch Gremlin and Super Mecha Death Christ appear as power ups.
  • Nintoasters appear as checkpoints on all difficulty modes except for Old School.
  • The Devil from the "Super Mario Bros 3/The Wizard" video appears as the boss in "Thy Farts Consumed".
  • Whenever you die, it brings you to a screen with a randomly generated "I'd rather do X than play this game" quote, which the Nerd is famous for.
  • Whenever you beat a level, the word "CONGLATURATION" appears, taken from the "Ghostbusters" video.
  • The final boss is Fred Fucks, inspired by Fred Fuchs, whose name the Nerd made fun of in the Dracula episode. In a few later episodes, the Nerd would jokingly suggest that he made certain particularly shitty games.
    • Speaking of which, in his review of Life of Black Tiger for the PS4, the Nerd meets Fred Fucks, portrayed by comedian Gilbert Gottfried. Later, in the Compilation Re-release of 2020, Fred Fucks' sprite is updated to have Gottfried's face.
  • "Dungeons & Dickholes" has a section where spiked walls close in on you from both sides, with a beer placed so that it is impossible to reach before the wall does, and after passing the section, the Nerd wonders how anyone was supposed to get it. The Nerd complained of a pizza being placed similarly in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on NES.
  • The Game Over screen contains the same message that the Nerd thought up in his Friday the 13th video.
You're dead. Your friends are dead. Your family's dead. Your fucking pets are being skinned alive. Your mom's a fucking whore. You suck at life. The whole world hates you. You're going to hell. Live with it. Game Over.
  • In "Happy Fun Candy Time", the boss was originally a winged unicorn. However, in the Compilation Re-release of 2020, it was changed by bloody Expies of The Berenstain Bears renamed the Bloodstain Bears, as a reference to the Halloween Episode where the Nerd review various games of the bears, and the unicorn appears as a head impaled in a stake, with the implication that the Bloodstain Bears ate her.
