One of the twin princesses of the Sunny Kingdom, Fine is adventurous and athletic, but she is also very clumsy. She also adores cake, but is afraid of ghosts.

Rein

The other twin princess of the Sunny Kingdom, Rein adores dressing up and gets starry-eyed over romance. She also loves scary things and is more emotionally stable than Fine. Just like Fine loves her cake, Rein has eyes for Bright.

Poomo

Voiced by: Satomi Koorogi

Poomo is a fairy sent by Princess Grace to train Fine and Rein to inherit her powers.

Camelot

Fine and Rein's Old Retainer. She follows them around from time to time to keep a watch on them. Other times, she scolds them for not being "proper princesses".

  • *Crack!* "Oh, My Back!": Happens from time to time due to her age.
  • Old Retainer: She's the retainer of Fine and Rein and often has a hard time keeping up with their shenanigans.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: She and Lulu are very obviously the Helper Camens. Doesn't stop them from helping the girls later in the series.

King Truth and Queen Elsa

The King and Queen of the sunny Kingdom. they were aware of the weakening of the Blessing of the Sun since the very beginning.

  • Good Parents: They are very loving and supportive of Fine and Rein, always having parental wisdom on hand for them when they need it.

Princess Grace

The legendary princess who once stopped the sun of the Wonder Planet from extinguishing and has now enlisted Fine and Rein to do the same.

    Meramera Kingdom 

Lione

Voiced by: Misato Fukuen

Lione is the princess of the Meramera (Flame) Kingdom. She's very reserved, kind-hearted, and is talented at dancing.

  • Cat Girl: Her father is an anthropomorphic lion, so this is a given. Her cat-like ears and Cute Little Fangs seal this deal.
  • Curtains Match the Window: She has orange hair and similarly-colored eyes.
  • Cute Little Fangs: She has one that tends to refuse to hide.
  • Demoted to Extra: Lione seemed like she would be part of the main cast from her appearance since she's the first princess Fine and Rein befriend and she was one of the few who received an Image Song. By the middle of the series, she started appearing infrequently and is even grouped with Sophie and Milro.
  • Image Song: "Brand New Day"
  • Meaningful Name: Her father is an anthropomorphic lion, so it would make sense that she was named after lions.
  • Peacock Girl: Lione dons peacock feathers in her samba costume.
  • Proper Lady
  • Psychic Link: Has an empathic one with the Bo Dragon. This lets her interpret his words and sense his feelings.
  • Shrinking Violet: Though not as much as Milro, Lione is still a little shy.
  • Unusual Ears: She has the ears of a lion that she inherited from her father.

Tio

Voiced by: Vanilla Yamazaki (first series episodes 1-25), Shihomi Mizowaki (first series episodes 27-end, Gyu!)

Tio is the prince of the Meramera Kingdom and Lione's younger brother. He swore on his life to protect Fine and Rein, but he hasn't exactly done that yet. Later, he becomes Shade's self-appointed apprentice to learn his ways.

  • Ascended Extra: In the second half of the first series, Tio decides to follow Shade's footsteps and accompanies him on his journey.
  • Badass Longcoat: Sure, Tio gets a trenchcoat in the second half of the first series, but he's still not as badass as Shade.
  • Butt-Monkey: In almost all of his appearances during the first half of the first series, something always goes wrong so much that it becomes a Running Gag. He gets better... sort off.
  • Determinator: No matter how many times he failed in helping the Twin Princesses and got reduced to A Twinkle in the Sky, he just won't let that stop his quest to become a genuine badass.
  • I Just Want to Be Badass: Tio admires Shade for his badassery, but isn't quite up to his level even when he begins to become his apprentice.
  • Iron Butt Monkey: He has been slammed and thrown around repeatedly, and he's been launched into the sky more time that anyone would care to count. All this, and he still keeps coming. He's quite resilient for a little guy...
  • Leitmotif: "Yaa Yaa Wagakoso Prince Tio" is a definite indicator of Tio's Once per Episode moment.
  • Once per Episode: Tio tries hard to help Fine and Rein in every single episode during the first half of the first series, but something always goes wrong. Some of his encounters result in A Twinkle in the Sky.
  • Stalker without a Crush: Pursued Shade in the second half of the first series to be his apprentice.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In episode 32 of the first series, Tio manages to save the Samba Festival.
  • Unexplained Recovery: How is he able to survive all of his backfired attempts?
  • Unusual Ears: He has the ears of a lion that he inherited from his father.

King Wohl and Queen Nina

The King and Queen of the Flame Kingdom. They oversee the stone that uses the Blessing of the Sun's power to warm the Wonder Planet.

Bo Dragon

A massive dragon living inside a volcano near the Meramera Kingdom. He has a connection with Lione that allows her to interpret his words.

    Jewelry Kingdom 

Altezza

Altezza is the haughty princess of the Jewelry Kingdom who initially dislikes Fine and Rein on-spot. She's boastful and arrogant but shows her more introspective sensitive side when it comes to her older brother, Bright, whom she looks up to.

  • Alpha Bitch: Altezza is the princess version of this before she gets better.
  • Ascended Extra: Altezza was nothing more than the Alpha Bitch in the beginning of the series, but during the second half, she accompanies Fine and Rein on their journey and even gets a costume upgrade.
  • Big Brother Worship: Altezza admires Bright greatly to the point that sometimes she gets annoyed when his attention is focused on someone else. This also causes her to be distressed during the second half of the show when Bright succumbs to The Dark Side.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: She definitely starts out this way, she manages to get out of it when she joins Fine and Rein on their adventures.
  • Break the Haughty: She suffers this after Bright falls under the control of the Black Crystal.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Don't come between her and her big brother now!
  • Depending on the Writer: Altezza and Milro seemed to have switched personalities in the manga adaptation due to the artist's Alternate Character Interpretation.
  • Hard Work Hardly Works: She trained extensively for each Princess Party only to not win a single one until the end.
  • Hey, You!: Initially, Altezza addresses anyone who isn't Bright as "you."
  • Inconsistent Spelling: Before the character fanbook was released with official English romanizations, the fansubs spelled Altezza's name as "Altessa."
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: She belts this out occasionally, fitting her haughty upbringing.
  • Official Couple: Altezza shows no interest in Auler in the beginning of the show, but by the end, she returns his feelings after he cheers her up during Bright's Face–Heel Turn.
  • Sibling Team: Altezza likes to team up with Bright, especially during dances.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: While Altezza is rude to Fine and Rein at first, Bright is gentle and friendly.
  • "Stop Having Fun" Guy: More like "Stop Having Fun" Girl, but same principle. She competes in the Princess Parties for the sole purpose of winning and tends to shun others who just want to have fun.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Her Character Development ultimately allows her to become a good friend of Fine and Rein's, if still vitriolic and a bit arrogant.
  • Tsundere: She may have an icy and arrogant demeanor, but she quickly reveals that she is capable of compassion and good conduct.

Bright

Voiced by: Tetsuya Kakihara

Bright is the prince of the Jewelry Kingdom and is known as the no. 1 idol in the Wonder Planet. He's patient and somewhat of a pacifist, and despite that all the girls adore him, he loves Fine out of them all. This makes him feel threatened when Fine starts hanging around Eclipse...

  • Beware the Nice Ones: He may be an all-around Nice Guy Prince Charming, but he doesn't take personal insults or being deceived lightly. Becomes much more of this after his Face–Heel Turn.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: More than Mind Control or not, he was still possessed by the Black Crystal and made into its pawn against his will. He applies this against Queen Yagmur after giving her a device powered by dark magic that would give Drop Kingdom complete control of the rain cycle. He completes it by convincing her that she could force the other kingdoms to pay tribute for rain. He even tries to use the power of darkness to force Fine to be the girl he envisioned her as and turn her to his side.
  • Chick Magnet
  • Double Entendre: Bright does a rather... inappropriate dance at the Samba Festival to rein in a crowd. Does This Remind You of Anything?
  • Evil Costume Switch: This happens some time after he is possessed by the Black Crystal. His clothing trades its white coloration with black and his Cool Crown eventually comes with a piece of the Black Crystal itself.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Bright becomes Brainwashed by The Dark Side halfway throughout the first series.
  • Fallen Hero: Becomes this after his Face–Heel Turn.
  • Harmless Villain: Okay, who gave Bright the Idiot Ball when he wanted to take over the Drop Kingdom by pissing its queen off? He becomes a Not-So-Harmless Villain after he's fully given his Black Prominence powers and especially after his Despair Event Horizon, which strengthens the power of the Black Crystal.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Bright uses a Cool Sword, but later trades it in for an oddly shaped Battle Boomerang during his Face–Heel Turn.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Fine and Rein try to save him by calling out to his true self when he is engulfed by the Black Crystal. He begins to start Fighting from the Inside.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Yes, Bright becomes evil. The cover for vol. 8 of the home release even shows him in his new costume.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: This happens when Bright completely inherits all of his Black Prominence powers.
  • The Load: Most of the time, he contributes almost nothing when he gets involved. This plays a role in his Face–Heel Turn.
  • Love Makes You Crazy: When Bright realizes that Fine wasn't who he thought she would be, things take a turn for the worse due to his already-crumbling emotional state.
  • Manipulative Bastard:
    • He manages to incite infighting amoung the kingdoms by exploiting existing rivalries.
    • He convinces Queen Yagmur to start charging other kingdoms for rain after he gives her a device to completely control the Wonder Planet's rain cycle.
    • He tops this off by convincing every other kingdom to recognize him as the supreme ruler of the Wonder Planet, either through deciet or by stealing the seals used for official documents.
  • More than Mind Control: Bright actually thinks Taking Over The Wonder Planet is right because then he would be able to use his power to make people happy.
  • Mundane Utility: He uses the Warriors of Darkness to...decorate a room and set up a party that everyone (particularly Fine) is invited to. Boomo calls him on this.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Towards the end of Bright's evil rampage, he does this when he realizes everyone has deserted him, including Boomo.
  • Nice Guy: His main goal in life seems to be trying to protect and make others happy. This gets exploited by the darkness.
  • Official Couple: Bright did have feelings for Fine at first, but eventually reciprocates Rein's crush on him.
  • Prince Charming: Bright is well-loved among the ladies of the Wonder Planet.
  • Screw the Rules, I Make Them!: A very interesting and surprisingly well-meaning case. After conning his way into becoming king of the Wonder Planet, he actively starts interfering in Princess Parties. The first time, he tries to get Altezza declared the winner despite her statue not being the actual best one. Then, he uses his authority to declare Fine the winner of the last Princess Party. Both times fail because 1) Altezza willingly turned down the victory, and 2) Fine gave the win to Altezza since neither she nor Rein could dance well and Altezza did the best of them all.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: He is a Nice Guy who wants to make everyone happy while Altezza is a Tsundere who bottles her emotions.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to talk about Bright without mentioning what happens to him in the middle of the first series.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: He believed the world can be always be happy. He was proven wrong despite the world itself being a Sugar Bowl and fell into despair as a result. This made him easy prey for the darkness.

    Moon Kingdom 

Shade (Eclipse)

Voiced by: Junko Minagawa

Shade is the prince of the Moon Kingdom, but masquerades under a secret alias known as "Eclipse." He prefers to carry out his plans in the shadows and becomes somewhat protective over Rein when she is in danger.

  • Badass Longcoat: As Eclipse, he wears a long trenchcoat.
  • Badass Normal: That one fight scene in episode 26 really shows how badass he can be.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Not only is Shade protective of his mom, but he's also fond of Milky. Official profiles state that he is sweet to Milky and likes spoiling her.
  • Big Brother Mentor: Shade becomes this to Tio in the second half of the first series, though it was more like Tio following him without his permission.
  • Chick Magnet: Shade is popular with the girls, though not seen to the extent of Bright.
  • Code Name: Shade goes under the name "Eclipse" when he's out of the palace in his trenchcoat guise until the second half of the series when Fine and Rein realize who he is. This trope is disregarded in the manga, where "Eclipse" is really his name.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's not very kind to Fine and Rein at first as Eclipse, but once they find out his intentions, he becomes kinder to them.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Yes, Eclipse is Shade. The two look the same, and after The Reveal, the official website changed Eclipse's character description to mention that he's Shade in disguise.
  • Leitmotif: "Teki ka? Mikata ka?! Nazo no Eclipse" always plays during Eclipse's appearances, especially in the first half of the first series.
  • Official Couple: Shade develops a crush on Rein but eventually falls for Fine, and they become a couple.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: If you've seen who Prince Shade is supposed to look like, it's really obvious who Eclipse actually is. Not to mention, as early as episode 8, when Fine and Rein first visit the Moon Kingdom, Moon Malia mentions that Shade's been away from the castle constantly. Fine begins suspecting Eclipse is Shade, but it isn't until episode 26 Shade is forced to reveal his identity.
  • The Rival: Bright viewed Eclipse as this before Shade revealed his identity.
  • Secret Identity: He keeps his identity as Prince Shade secret when going out as Eclipse. Though he eventually drops it midway through the season.

Milky

Voiced by: Kazuko Kojima

Milky is the infant princess of the Moon Kingdom. She loves eating sweets and her older brother, Shade, a lot.

Roman

Roman is the Evil Chancellor of the Moon Kingdom who seeks to rule the Wonder Planet. His henchmen are his loyal Mooks who display surprising competence.

  • Batman Gambit: The Henchmen pull several in their Team Rocket Wins episode, among others. First, they know Bright is suspicious of Eclipse and use that to lure him into a trap. Next, they kidnap Milky because by then they know Shade is Eclipse and thus will keep him distracted for a while. Then, they put Fie and Rein into a position where they have no choice but to use the Prominence...while having the machine that can steal it at the ready. Finally, they send Bright into a Bottomless Pit as another distraction for Shade. And that's not even getting into the other gambits they've used throughout the earlier episodes...
  • Benevolent Boss: Implied. Roman's henchmen were overjoyed to see him return after the Black Crystal is defeated and banished.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Roman is the main antagonist of the first part of the first season. The "Wannabe" part comes from when the Black Crystal decides to absorb him due to regarding him as useless now that Bright has the Black Prominence.
  • Creepy Crossdresser: The second time he tries to use the stolen Prominence, it gives him a darker version of Fine and Rein's dress, at everyone's bewilderment.
  • Disney Death: He is brought back after the Black Crystal is defeated, much to his Mooks' joy. Not that he deserves it, of course.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: See You Have Outlived Your Usefulness below.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Roman underestimates the Black Crystal. Badly.
  • Hostage for MacGuffin: They threaten Bright's life to goad Fine and Rein into using the Prominence. Subverted in that they still use Bright as a means of distracting Shade and successfully escaping with the stolen Prominence.
  • Manipulative Bastard: He and his Mooks have been responsible for a lot of trouble all over the Wonder Planet.
  • Princess Curls: Twice, when Roman tries to use the stolen Prominence much to everyone's bewilderment.
  • Take Over the World: Roman's main goal is to take over the world. He doesn't succeed and is absorbed into the Power of Darkness when he's outlived his usefulness.
  • Team Rocket Wins: After several episodes of trying and failing, Roman and his Henchmen hatch a plot to finally take the Prominence. Rau disguises himself as Shade and lures Bright into a trap so as to use him as bait for Fine and Rein. Yan kidnaps Milky to distract Shade until it's too late. The rest hold Bright hostage and use a machine to suck out the Prominence when they force the girls to use it to save Bright. It works splendidly despite Shade showing up to stop them.
  • Walking Spoiler: His entire presence spoils the second half of the series, when it goes into a Cerebus Syndrome.
  • Would Hurt a Child: The henchmen have no qualms over harming the girls or using their friends as bargaining chips. Case in point: They threaten the girls with Bright's life after luring him into a trap, they kidnapped Milky to lure Shade away, and they throw Bright into a Bottomless Pit just to distract Shade and let them get away.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Once he gives the Black Prominence to Bright, the Power of Darkness sucks him into the chest that held Boomo. Boomo all but says this trope when it happens.

Rau and Yan

  • Karma Houdini: The most Rau and Yan ever suffer is humiliation whenever they fail to get the Prominence. Once they succeed, they stop intervening as much, but their more heinous crimes go unpunished.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: Never once do we get to see their faces other than their eyes and some of their skin; the rest is hidden by a hooded robe and mask.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: In Gyu!, Raurau and Yanyan, the staff of the Royal Wonder Academy bear a strong resemblance to Rau and Yan. They even have the same character design, voice actors, and similar names.

    Drop Kingdom 

Milro

Voiced by: Sachi Sukigara

Milro is the shy, artistic princess of the Drop Kingdom.

    Windmill Kingdom 

Sophie

Voiced by: Rina Sato

Sophie is the airheaded princess of the Windmill Kingdom.

  • Cloudcuckoolander: Second only to titular Twin Princesses when it comes to airheadedness.
  • Comically Missing the Point: More often than not, she reacts inappropriately for serious moments.
  • The Ditz: Count the number of times she acts quirky.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Her father, King Randa, is an anthromorphic dog, hence her canine-esque Unusual Ears.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Her statements toward Altezza being in the "loser club" with her are well meaning, but Altezza's anger in response is rather justified.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: She put herself in between a swarm of locusts and Altezza's roses in order to protect them during the Best Flower Princess Party, getting crowned best princess as a result. She's concerned about it now that she's no longer in the loser club with Altezza.

Auler

Voiced by: Hiro Shimono

Auler is the prince of the Windmill Kingdom and is deeply besotted with Altezza.

    Seed Kingdom 

Seed Princesses

The princesses of the Seed Kingdom consist of the eleven sisters Ichele, Harney, Gorchel, Nina, Saya, Shiyon, Loloa, Nursya, Quarry, Julia, and Joiner.

    No Kingdom 

Boomo

Boomo is a fallen fairy and the mentor to Bright after his Face–Heel Turn. He is about as prone to Amusing Injuries as his Good Counterpart, Poomo.

  • Brainwashed: He used the power of darkness to apply this to Bright and finalize his Face–Heel Turn.
  • Butt-Monkey: He's as prone to Amusing Injuries as his counterpart, Poomo!
  • The Corrupter: He is the one who goads Bright into doing the terrible things he did while possessed by the Black Crystal.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He and Poomo could exchange lots of stories about how difficult it is to work with their respective charges.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Poomo.
  • Evil Laugh: Comprised of his own name.
  • Evil Mentor: He becomes Bright's mentor.
  • The Fair Folk: He is a fairy, but he's very clearly malevolent.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Has one thanks to his crush on Princess Pearl. He does remain standoffish, however.
  • It's All About Me: He believed that he should've been the king of the Poomo Fairies. This attracted the darkness to him and forced Princess Grace to seal him away along with the darkness.
  • Love Redeems: His crush on Princess Pearl eventually frees him from the Black Crystal's influence.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: He was sealed inside a chest along with the darkness before Roman and his mooks released him.
  • Walking Spoiler: His presence reveals what happens to Bright in the second half of the first season.
  • Verbal Tic: He ends all of his sentences with "de bumo", further marking him as Poomo's counterpart.
  • Villain Teleportation: Like Poomo, he has the ability to teleport. However, he seems able to use it at will and typically utilizes it to make a hasty retreat alongside Bright.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: He references this trope after Roman is absorbed by the darkness.

    Royal Wonder Academy 

Chiffon

Voiced by: Emiri Katou

Chiffon is the six-year-old Child Prodigy princess of the Mathematics Planet and is also the president of the student council. She quickly befriends Fine and Rein when they enter the Royal Wonder Academy and teams up with them to form Team Gemini. Since she is used to the strict school policities working against teamwork, she becomes interested in the twins' methods and the concept of friendship.

Thomas

Voiced by: Shinnosuke Tachibana

Thomas is the former prince of the Walpurgis Planet and is the vice president of the student council.

Noche

  • Dogged Nice Guy: He develops a crush on Fine even though she only sees him as a friend.

Elizabeta

Shasha & Carla

    Black Planet Academy 

Bibin

Voiced by: Yuri Shiratori

Bibin is a student of the Black Planet Academy and wishes to be crowned as its queen someday. She works with Ed-chin under the orders of the principal to ruin their rival school, the Royal Wonder Academy.
