- All for Nothing: Her primary goal through Season 1 was to avenge his brother, only to find that he is still alive.
- Broken Pedestal: She remembers André as a caring big brother who raised her, and believes in his innocence while he is imprisoned as the Offshore's first murderer. At the end of Season 2, she is disillusioned to learn that André was not only guilty of the murder, but an elitist fanatic who killed in order to hide the Founding Couple's sabotage against the Inland.
- I Have Your Wife: In Season 2, she is forced by Ezequiel to infiltrate the Cause in order to see her brother André again.
- Moses Archetype: She defects from the Offshore and builds the Shell in the desert, in an attempt to offer the Inlanders a better life without depending on the Process. Season 3 follows her journey as The Leader. She also dies before seeing the new world in which people unite without the Offshore or the Process.

- The Fettered: Because of having accidentally killed a young boy in the past, she feels strong resistance against killing people. This causes her to fail Ezequiel's final test in Season one, and becomes her driving motive in Season 2 as she looks for a way to sabotage the Process while preventing the Cause from bombing the candidates.
- Murder by Mistake: She was beaten up by the local militia leader Gerson's men. She sneaks into his house holding a gun for revenge, only to mistakenly shoot his young son.
- Mysterious Parent: In Season 4, she meets an Offshore councilwoman named Verônica, who is heavily implied to be her Missing Mom. Subverted, as she later reveals that she never had children.
- Never Given a Name: As an orphan who never knew her parents, she was never properly named.
- Smarter Than They Look: During the early stages of her Process, she seemed apathetic but proved to be very intelligent when called for.

- I Did What I Had to Do: In order to pass the Process as the Cause's agent, he does some morally questionable things, which range from cheating in a test to stealing his younger brother's identity.
- In Love with the Mark: After going to the Offshore as a secret agent from the Cause, he starts dating Elisa, a doctor in the Offshore. He admits to Ivana that while he initially started the relationship as a cover, he really fell in love with Elisa.
- Mind Control: In Season 3, it is revealed that Marcela conditioned him to sabotage the Shell by hypnosis.

- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: During his Process, he initially gains other candidates' trust as a friendly, natural leader. In the Dorm test, however, he reveals his violent and entitled nature, as he takes food from other candidates by brute force and even murders one of them.
- Blue Blood: He comes from the prestigious Álvares family.
- Break the Haughty: Having grown up in the Álvares family, he initially believed he was an elite who naturally deserved life in Offshore. After failing the Process, losing both his legs, enduring humiliation in the militia and failing to win his mother's approval, he grows to believe that he only deserves what he earns by himself, and rewrites his letter to his son accordingly.
- Handicapped Badass: Despite having lost his legs and having to walk with a cane, he manages to kill the militia leader Gerson and take over the militia in Season 2. Even after the militia's end and his Heel–Face Turn, he remains a capable combatant.
- Not Quite Dead: In Season 1, after threatening other candidates by brute force in the Dorm test, he was finally beaten up by the angry candidates and left there. He tried to crawl out of the Dorm, only to be crushed by the metal door. Season 2 reveals that he survived due to the Offshore's medical care and was sent back to the Inland.
- Proud Elite: As an Álvares, he initially believes that he is an elite who has the birthright to go to the Offshore.
- "Well Done, Son" Guy: The Tunnel test reveals that he fears being unable to live up to his family's standards. In season 2 after taking over the militia, he offers to help Commander Marcela defend the Process building, in an attempt to win back her approval.
- White Sheep: After his Character Development, he begins to loathe the Álvares family and their elitist dogma, leaving his residence and distancing his son from them. Subverted at the end, when he admits his heart belongs with the Álvares family and the Offshore, and chooses to die in the Offshore along with his grandfather.

- The Unfettered: Tired of being unable to change anything, he decides to bomb the Process building along with the candidates in order to end the Process.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: His interaction with his patients indicates he genuinely cares for the people in the Inland. In order to end their suffering by ending the Process, he is willing to bomb the Process building and kill the candidates.

- Dark and Troubled Past: She had an abusive mother who tried to kill her.
- Karma Houdini: She is never blamed for burning down the Shell.
- Les Collaborateurs: In Season 3, She helped the Offshore take over the Shell, and was the only one willing to support them even after knowing about their sabotage against the Shell. In Season 4, she let Marcela escape and burned down the Shell.
- "Well Done, Son" Guy: Fernando lampshades this in Season 2, saying that Glória is so eager to pass the process because she wants to prove her mother wrong.

- Ambiguously Gay: His sexual orientation is never explicitly stated or made clear, but at one point he refers to a guy as "hot".
- Break the Cutie: After Michele's death, he becomes vengeful and seeks to murder André.
- Mr. Exposition: He's the one who introduces most of the Shell to Joana when she arrives there.
- The Pollyanna: He's almost always happy and it takes something really awful to put him in a bad mood.
- Plucky Comic Relief: He's a pretty silly character who's considered the "clown" of the Shell.

- Dark Is Evil: She is a villain who always appear in dark clothing, and often with dark makeup.
- Proud Elite: She looks down on the Inlanders, and even her fellow Offshorers to some degree.
- Used Tobe A Sweet Kid: The first time she met her father Offshore, she expressed her desire to become an artist and cried missing her son. After facing his disapproval, she decided to join the military and started to become more ruthless in order to please him.

- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Michelle initially saw him as a Cool Big Bro who raised her, and believed in his innocence while he was imprisoned as a murderer. It turned out that not only was he really a murderer, but he was a ruthless elitist who had no regard for the Inlanders' well-being.
