Main Characters
Fab Four and Frankie
- Expy: The Zhus are based on their Quest for Zhu and toy counterparts.
- Meaningful Name:
- Pipsqueak is the smallest.
- Mr. Squiggles is regularly squiggling scientific blueprints.
- Num Nums is chubbiest of the group.
- Chunk is the beefiest.
- Speaks Fluent Animal: Frankie, as well as all of the humans in this show, fall into this category, but only in the case of the Zhus.
- Talking Animal: All of the Fab Four are talking hamsters.
Frankie Pamplemousse
Voiced by: Jenna Warren
Frankie (originally named Polly) is the main, and titular, character of the show. She lives in Anytown with her mom, dad, and four talking hamsters.
- Abnormal Limb Rotation Range: Frankie's left glenohumeral joint at start of "Story Book It."
- All There in the Manual: Frankie's age being 8 years old was only confirmed in the Vimeo interview for the series, revealed by a writer of the series.
- Frankie's last name was also this until the show mentioned it (which mostly happens when Madge mentions it).
- Alliterative Name: Her old name, Polly Pamplemousse.
- Beehive Hairdo: Frankie tries wearing one in "Hairible Mistake."
- Canon Foreigner: Frankie was newly created for the series which ignores Katie, Pipsqueak's owner who was featured in the Quest for Zhu film.
- Contortionist : She regularly leaps into full splits midair, or while on one leg.
- Cheerful Child: Even more than the Zhus sometimes.
- Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Mentioned in "Zhu Years Eve."Frankie: I don't know, Dad. My teacher says I am full of energy!Ellen: You don't say.
- Crossdresser: Sir Frankie in "Story Book It."
- Hero Protagonist: She's the protagonist of the show, and likely to save the day.
- Hypocritical Humor + Immediate Self-Contradiction
- Modesty Shorts: In "Zhurassic Park," Cave!Frankie is wearing a short orange shirt underneath her green cavegirl toga since otherwise the single-shoulder design would expose her chest.
- Ordinary High-School Student
- Although it's not revealed what grade Frankie's in, it's confirmed that she is 8-years-old.
- Pink Heroine: Zhuper Girl wears a pink costume.
- Pirate Girl: Frankie as "Girl Beard" in "Zhuper Zhide Kicks."
- Scary Stinging Swarm: Frankie gets chased and stung by a swarm of bees in "If Wishes Were Rainbows."
- Stock Femurbone: Cave!Frankie is wearing one to hold her hair up in "Zhurassic Park."
- Sudden Name Change: Originally named Polly, her name was changed to Frankie after the 7th episode of the series.
- For better or worse, some episodes still play off Frankie's old name, such as Jessica Beeker accidentally calling Frankie "Penny" in "Dreams O'Clock."
- Younger Than They Look: She's 8, but looks like she could be 13.
Pipsqueak
Voiced by: Tajja Isen
Pipsqueak is the first Zhu Zhu, and is the unofficial leader of the Zhus. She was Frankie's first hamster, and would do anything to make her happy.
- Affectionate Nickname: Pip, Pips
- And Call Him "George": In "Zhurassic Park," tomboy Pipsqueak clearly Does Not Know His Own Strength when giving Cave Frankie a Bear Hug as she is clearly being crushed by her.
- Cheerful Child: Frankie aside, Pipsqueak is the most cheerful of the Zhus.
- Cross Dresser: Papa Bear
- Innocent Blue Eyes: Just like Frankie.
- Knows the Ropes: A lasso is used by Pipsqueak's superhero alias, Turbo McCuddles.
- The Leader: Unofficially.
- Pink Heroine: Turbo McCuddles has a pink hat and leads the sidekick team in her absence.
- Space Western: Turbo McCuddles is an "intergalactic cowgirl."
- Spell My Name With An S: Pipsqueak has been spelt "Pipsqueek" on the Zhu Zhu Pets website.
Mr. Squiggles

Mr. Squiggles is the second Zhu Zhu, and is the smartest of the Zhus. He likes science.
- Affectionate Nickname: Mr S., Squiggles, Squiggs
- Catchphrase: "Pinch my pelt"

- Mad Scientist: Dr. Thermostat, Mr. Squiggles' former super villain alter-ego.
- Nerd Glasses: His sidekick alter-ego wears some.
Num Nums
Voiced by: Stephany Seki
Num Nums is the third Zhu Zhu, and is the most sensitive. She is a careful thinker.
- Adaptation Dye-Job: In the original toys and the Quest for Zhu movie, her fur was light grey. Here, it's lavender.
- Affectionate Nickname: Nums, Nummers
- Beware the Nice Ones:
- In "Home Run Hamsters", Num Nums shows her Berserk Button when Mr. Kerdle calls the Zhus 'runts' and beats him up once he takes it too far.
Mr. Kerdle: You runts are going down.Num Nums: What... did you call us?!Pipsqueak: You shouldn't have said that...Chunk: Bad move, mop man.Mr. Squiggles: My theory is that this will add up to trouble for you, sir.Num Nums: Nobody calls us... runts!- In "The Trashing of Zhuper Girl", Num Nums almost attacks the TV once Madge mocks and insults the Zhus.
Madge: Oh, and don't forget my silly little rats. "Mah-mah, we're lame sidekicks. Look at me! You ever see a flea bag with glasses?"Num Nums: Flea bag? Flea bag?! I'll show you a flea bag!- when her quilt gets wrecked

- Smart People Wear Glasses: Num Nums is shown to be wisely cautious as a hamster ought to be. She is regularly offering reasonable warnings to the 3 impulsive Zhus and wanting to stay inside, away from predators.
- Still slightly averted however, as Mr. Squiggles is shown to mostly be The Smart Guy of the group.

Chunk
Voiced by: Robert Tinkler
Chunk is the fourth Zhu Zhu, and is the Big Eater of the Zhus.

- Innocently Insensitive: Chunk is known for saying stuff unknowingly in which the other Zhus will get annoyed at.
- In Touch with His Feminine Side: In "Chip off the Old Chunk", he is seen wearing a tutu and states he was going to wear it in the first place.
- In "The No-Kart Race", he asks Frankie's dad if they will braid each other's hair.
- Spiders Are Scary: Chunk shows this side to him in "Chunklette's Web."

Ellen Pamplemousse
Voiced by: Stacey DePass
Ellen Pamplemousse is Frankie's mom.
- Action Mom: beyond being a plumber, she can fix race cars and juggle 3 plungers inna clown nose to entertain swing girl.
- Seduction-Proof Marriage: So far we know with Ellen. She swoons when Sergio compliments her in "Hairible Mistake" but she doesn't follow up.
- Unnamed Parent: Referred to as Mom up until Fur-Vivor, when Num Nums refers to her as Ellen. From then on her name is used frequently.
- Wrench Wench: even uses a giant one as a musical instrument in "How Zhu Get Ahead in Advertising"
Stanley Pamplemousse
Voiced by: Zachary Bennett
Stanley Pamplemousse is Frankie's dad.

- Unnamed Parent: Referred to as Dad. Taken to a case of All There in the Manual, where he is referred to as "Stanley" by the Closed Captioning in only one episode ("Deja Zhu"). Even then, this only appears in the early US "Polly" version. It does not appear in the "Frankie" version that airs on YTV in Canada. All other episodes simply refer to him as "Dad", even in the CC and in episodes that refer to Ellen by her real name, in both dialogue and CC.
Wilfred P. Kerdle / Mr. Kerdle
Voiced by: Patrick McKenna
Mr. Kerdle is the grumpy school janitor that works at Frankie's school.
- Cross Dresser: appears in yellow wig as Frankie in Zhus The Boss.
Cindy and Mindy Gelato
Voiced by: Rebecca Brenner and Samantha Weinstein
Cindy and Mindy Gelato are twins and Frankie's friends.
- Coordinated Clothes: Mindy and Cindy mostly dress the same. Subtle differences in color schemes serve to distinguish them.
- Identical Twin ID Tag: Mindy has a white ice cream cone, yellow backpack, blue glasses, white bracelet, and dark blue pants, while Cindy has a yellow ice cream cone (pink on shirt), green backpack, pink glasses, blue bracelet, and lighter blue pants.
- Meaningful Name: The Gelatos wear ice cream themed clothing.
- Sleepwalking: Cindy and Mindy are sleepwalkers, as revealed in "Zombie Sleep Over."
- Single-Minded Twins: No appreciable differences in the Gelato's behavior.
Madge
Voiced by: Brianna D'Aguanno
Madge is Frankie's next door neighbor, and her Arch-Enemy.
- Alpha Bitch: Revealed in "The Pumpkin Whisperers" that she does go to Frankie's school.
- Full-Name Basis: Madge regularly says "Frankie Pamplemousse" instead of just "Frankie" unlike most other characters.
- Lonely Rich Kid: She is quick to allow Frankie to spend time at her house when asked, even though they are enemies.
- Rich Bitch: plans to buy all instruments and hide them so nobody in world can enjoy music.
- Rich in Dollars, Poor in Sense: In "The Pumpkin Whisperers," she fails to notice she is growing a red tomato and not an orange pumpkin until Frankie points it out.
- Right-Hand Cat: She has one named Princess Tickyboo.
Princess Tickyboo
Princess Tickyboo is Madge's pet cat.
- Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: She wears a pearl necklace and bow.
Whendy Sails
Voiced by: Nicole Stamp
Whendy Sails is a news reporter for Channel 5.
- Meaningful Name: She reports weather (i.e. windy).
