Tropes applying to all of Liscor

     Liscor
  • City of Adventure: Par for the course in Innsworld, and any city on Invrisil with an Adventurer's Guild. Only to be expected as it is the home of many of the characters.

The Council

    Elirr Fultpar

[Beast Trainer]

  • The Beastmaster: A [Beast Trainer], actually. Great with almost all animals but has a love-hate relationship with his cats, who rarely listen to him.

    Krshia Silverfang

[Councilwoman], [Huntress], [Royal Shopkeeper], [Shaman]

  • Ambiguously Bi: When waking up hungover in the same bed as Selys, she remarks that it's "disappointing", that they hadn't done anything, much to the latter's mortification.
  • Cool Aunt: Serves as this to Erin, Mrsha, and Lyonette to various degrees, and is biologically this to Brunkr.
  • Enemy Mine: She forms one with Lism in the Council against the power block of Guild-masters and Landlords who've been mismanaging Liscor. Evolves into a full-on Odd Couple in Volume 7.
  • Full-Frontal Assault: She gets a moment of this when she's woken up at night by the Raskghar attack on Liscor.
  • The Nose Knows: Even by Gnoll standards, she isn't shy to comment on other's personal lives.

    Lism Swifttail

[Shopkeeper]

  • Enemy Mine: He forms one with Krshia in the Council against the power block of Guild-masters and Landlords who've been mismanaging Liscor. Evolves into a full-on Odd Couple in Volume 7.
  • Innocent Bigot: He seems genuinely surprised, if dismissive, when Olesm tries to explain the problem with his Fantastic Slurs against Krshia.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He undermines the exploitive [Landlord] class of Liscor, sets up a system of [Carers] to look after widows and the elderly, and punched the representative from Hectval when they started giving advice on how to oppress Liscor's minority species.
  • Species Loyalty: Lism is very patriotic (even by Drake standards) regarding Liscor and the other Drake cities, and is extremely distrustful of Antinium and Humans. He has no real problem with Gnolls, but usually only sees them in the context of people living in Drake society.
  • Straw Character: He's unrepentantly bigoted against anyone he sees as an "outsider", excessively bitter over any perceived slight, and is generally an arrogant blowhard. By Book 6, he's still all those things, but its also shown how he dotes on his nephew Olesm, tries his best to look out for the impoverished in his community and, as a Councilmember, is committed to bettering his city and refuses to slack off like his predecessors did.

The Watch

    Relc Grasstongue

[Trusted Sergeant of the Watch], [Spearmaster], [Archer], [Carpenter]

    Tkrn

[Shield Companion]

    Zevara Sunderscale

[Watch Captain]

  • Breath Weapon: Her Oldblood heritage manifests as fire breath. This causes shortness of breath, hacking coughs, and even asphyxiation if overused, but is a powerful weapon in certain circumstances.
  • Da Chief: She is the sole [Watch Captain] of Liscor's Guardsmen. She is constantly stressed over paperwork, reigning in Cowboy Cop Relc, and keeping the peace. In Drake society, this position also means she's unquestionably in charge in any state of emergency.
  • Declining Promotion: Much of Liscor becomes offended on her behalf when she isn't appointed as [Watch Commander] after Liscor is given permission to have the position. It turns out though, she was offered it, but she thought it'd take her away from her duties too much.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Zevara is hostile to Erin early on over Klbch's death, and to the Adventurers after Skinner. In general though, she tends to smooth over issues for Liscor's benefit, is a Benevolent Boss to her guardsmen, and is willing to see reason.

Liscor's Army

    Embria Grasstongue

[Wing Commander], [Spear of Glory]

Other Citizens

    Drassi Tewing

[Honest Journalist], [Bartender], [Receptionist], [Soldier]

    Hawk

[Courier]

  • Beast Man: Hawk is a rabbit Beastkin.
  • Interspecies Relationship: As the only Beastkin in Liscor, he's had a series of these, including an off-again, on-again relationship with Selys. He keeps giving the women he dates carrot-based foods.
  • Only Sane Man: He refuses dangerous deliveries and somehow almost entirely avoids fighting during Liscor's various disasters. He's made his fortunes as a Courier and sees no need to risk his life for more fame or wealth.

    Olesm Swifttail

[Tactician] > [Strategist] > [Eleleu Strategos]

  • Chick Magnet: Olesm Swifttail is an unintentional example. So far, he had a fling with Ceria, and both Zevara and Embria have or had a crush on him.
  • Forgotten Fallen Friend: Although he participates in the crypt raid with the adventurers, during both the attack on Liscor and the immediate aftermath he is completely forgotten. When he and Ceria are found to have survived, many of the others are embarrassed to not have noticed his absence in the first place.
  • Odd Friendship: Gradually forms one with Pisces.
  • Racist Grandpa: His uncle Lism has Species Loyalty towards Drakes, is an Innocent Bigot regarding Gnolls, and is suspicious or outright hostile to most other species. Still, Olesm believes him to be a genuinely good person trying to do what's right for Liscor and loves his doting uncle.
  • Smart People Play Chess: As a [Tactician] and later [Strategist], Olesm hones his Skills and Levels up through chess and other strategy games, and is perhaps the most enthusiastic about them aside from Erin.
  • The Strategist: Originally a [Tactician], he is now the only [Strategist] in Liscor, and is responsible for much of its intelligence-gathering, planning, and defenses.
  • Troubled Sympathetic Bigot: Although mostly amiable with Rags and the Antinium chess players, once he becomes a [Strategist] he shows some distrust towards the Antinium, and is temporarily banned from the Wandering Inn due to his opinions on Goblins. He is far more comfortable with all other races than Lism, however, and while categorizing them as a hostile threat he still tries to consider the Goblins as a people.

    Selys Shivertail

[Relickeeper Heiress], [Hunter], [Receptionist], [Soldier], [Warrior]

  • Unexpected Inheritance: Her uncle [General] Zel Shivertail's will said she was to be given whatever equipment that he happened to have on him when he died (originally) because she wanted to be an Adventurer when she was young. This technically makes her the owner of the Heartflame Breastplate, a legendary artifact.

    Tekshia Shivertail

[Guildmistress], [Spearmaster]

    Valeterisa "Valley" Imarris

[Grand Magus of Mind and Studies]

  • Absent-Minded Professor: Between her obsession with magic, and her tendency to overuse [Parallel Thoughts], she comes across as extremely scatterbrained.
  • Eccentric Mentor: After an initial rough patch, she dotes on her [Apprentice] Montressa du Valeross. In return, she acts as her Cloudcuckoolander's Minder, handling the politics and business that Valeterisa finds tedious.
  • Friendless Background: Growing up as a Human in the very Drake-centric Walled City of Fissival, Valley was generally treated as a second-class citizen. If anything, the fact that she was a magical prodigy made the bullying by her peers worse.
