Members
Connor Jordan
The new vampire hunter in town, show's up after the deaths of Pastor Young and the remaining members of the Founder's Council.
However, there is more to him than meets the eye, as it's later revealed he was sent to Mystic Falls by Professor Atticus Shane to kill vampires. Connor is revealed to be a member of a supernatural sect known as the Brotherhood of the Five. He is later killed by Elena.
- Anti-Villain: Of the well-intentioned extremist variety, as he views the end goal of riding the world of vampires to be worth the occasional human casuality here and there as evidenced by his risking April Young's life to use as bait, then hers as well as Matt's and Jeremy's.
- Big Bad: Looking like it in Season 4. Though due to the show's track record, he's probably not.
- The Bus Came Back: In late Season 4, as a ghost to cure/kill Silas.
- Disc-One Final Boss: Gets killed by Elena making him her first kill as a vampire.
- Hero Antagonist: He's basically a ruthless Buffy 2.0.
- He Who Fights Monsters: Once you start risking humans to kill vampires, you're in the abyss
- Humans Are Bastards: Taking the form of Elena's mother and having her try to convince Elena to kill herself was very low.
- Jerkass: He is perfectly willing to wound someone in order to lure a vampire out, shooting up a church to kill one to boot, it doesn't really work though.
- Killed Off for Real: By Elena.
- Mind Rape: After Elena kills him, he inflicts this on Elena causing her Sanity Slippage that leads her to Attempted Suicide due to her being under the Hunter's Curse, a Failsafe Failure were a hunter to die at the hands of a vampire/immortal.
- Neck Snap: How Elena kills him.
- Psychic Block Defense: As a member of the Five, he's immune to vampire compulsion whether he's on vervain or not.
- The Strategist: Connor is an intelligent and ruthless hunter, cold and calculating.
- Super-Reflexes/Super-Strength: As a member of the Five, though not to the extent of vampires, but enough to go toe-to-toe with them. He even ripped off the head of a vampire-werewolf hybtid crested by Klaus via a chain.
- Vampire Hunter: A supernatural race of hunter with intense urges to kill vampires, or hybrids.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: Though his hunter lifestyle seems a little harsh from the audience's perspective, lets not forgot that even the most sympathetic vampires on this show are bona fide murderers and a danger to human lives.
Galen Vaughn
A vampire hunter as well as a member of the Brotherhood of the Five. Relentless, tactical, cunning though charming and handsome Galen is tough as nails. Unlike Connor Jordan, he has full knowledge of the Five's true supernatural purpose: to cure Silas, the progenitor of the Salvatore doppelganger bloodline and the world's first immortal being and kill him.
- Crazy-Prepared: Galen is a tactical individual, ready for any situation, armed to the teeth, more so than Connor even holding weapons to incapacitate Rebekah Mikaelson, an Original vampire.
- Disc-One Final Boss: Of the secondary chapter of Season 4, until he's left to die by starvation by Rebekah.
- Hero Antagonist: The purpose of the Five to cure Big Bad Silas and kill him.
- Jerkass: He is determined to fulfil the Five's goal and was perfectly willing to harm others as collateral damage to accomplish this stabbing Bonnie, torturing Damon to use as leverage.
- Know When to Fold 'Em: When he relents under threat of extensive torture by Damon and Rebekah informing them where he got his information where to find Silas, about the cure, the Five.
- Psychic Block Defense: Galen is immune to vampire compulsion, immortals' mind reading and witch's possession as a perk of being a supernatural hunter.
- Scarily Competent Tracker: When the Mystic Falls gang arrive on Nova Scotia, he's able to track them easily, spying on them, learning their names, their motives all while keeping hidden.
- The Unfettered: Galen is very dedicated to completing the true mission of the Five, curing and killing Silas
- Vampire Hunter: A supernatural hunter with intense urges to kill vampires, with the goal of killing Silas - the world's first immortal.
Elena's little brother who joins the Brotherhood and becomes a vampire hunter in season 4.
Alexander
The leader of the Brotherhood of the Five in the early 12th century who daggered The Originals save for Klaus.
- Back from the Dead: Thanks to Bonnie lifting the veil, he's resurrected in the present day
- Character Death: In the past he was killed by Klaus after he failed to assassinate him due to him being a hybrid. In the modern-day, he's killed again by an Original, this time by Rebekah when she sets one of his traps on him.
- Due to the Dead: He was buried along with his sword by Rebekah in the church that they picked for their marriage in Italy.
- The Fundamentalist: He was fervently dedicated to the cause to destroy all vampires, even hosting public vampire executions to demonstrate the threat they posed to humanity. When he found that his fiancee Rebekah was a vampire, he didn't hesitate to have her and her entire family daggered.
- Hunk: He's incredibly muscular and handsome.
- The Leader: He was the Leader of the Brotherhood of the Five in the early 12th century.
- Long-Haired Pretty Boy: He's a Hunk with long straight brown hair.
- Vampire Hunter: He's part of an organization of vampire hunters, with the ultimate aim to find and kill Silas.
Associates
Professor Atticus Shane
Atticus is a professor or teacher that teaches at the university in which Bonnie's grandmother taught at. He is aware of the existence of vampires, witches and werewolves and is an associate of The Five as he was the one who sent Connor to Mystic Falls in the first place. He has plans to help Bonnie with her guilt, although he has plans for her.
Qetsiyah (AKA Tessa)
Qetsiyah (Ancient Greek: Kετσιυαη) was the oldest known ancestor of the Bennett bloodline, and a powerful Traveler witch who help found the Brotherhood in order to get her revenge on Silas.
Rayna Cruz
Rayna Cruz was a recurring character and the primary antagonist in the seventh season of The Vampire Diaries.
She was a Shamanic Huntress hailing around the 19th Century, the daughter of Vicente Cruz, who was a member of the Brotherhood of the Five, and was a fierce vampire huntress whose sole purpose was to eradicate and incarcerate Vampires within the Phoenix Stone. After being forced to kill her father by Julian, she became enhanced by a tribe of shamans to get vengeance on Julian, his Heretic family, and all vampires.
Her main target was Stefan Salvatore as he was stabbed by her when she attempted to kill Damon, marking him with her sword, allowing her to find him anywhere and compelling her to kill him. She was willing to kill everyone, no matter the species, that dare to stand in her way. She also bared a striking resemblance to the late Elena Gilbert although she does not seem to be of any relation to Elena or any of her Doppelgängers.
- Action Girl: She had quite the body count to her name.
- Anti-Magic: She's immune to direct offensive magic, as shown when she No-Sell Bonnie using telekinesis on her.
- Big Bad: In the three-year Time Skip in season 7, she is the main threat.
- Born-Again Immortality: The main ability the shamans gave her is the ability to resurrect herself a total of 8 times each time she dies and each time her body bursts into flames and she is reborn from the ashes to the age she was when the shamans gave her the ability.
- Determinator: Obsessed with hunting down Stefan, and doesn't let anything stand in the way of her prey.
- The Dreaded: Julian and the Heretics are all afraid of her. Generally, she is this to all vampires who have heard of her or encountered her, even Klaus.
- Expy: You could say her role resembles a supernatural version of a Franchise/Terminator, being an Stoic Implacable Woman who's completely focused on completing her task thanks to the shamans who "created" her and she even has a penchant for ending up naked and having to acquire clothes. Given she's a self-resurrecting, magically empowered female champion of humanity against vampires, you could just as easily compare her to Buffy or the Slayer line as a whole.
- Fantastic Racism: She hates all vampires and her hate is what drives her to kill them all. Later subverted when she reveals she was in love with a vampire once and she later states that she doesn't feel that Stefan deserves to die. It is also later revealed that her hate for vampires is being fueled by her abilities so she really has no choice but to hate them, even though she knows that not all of them are evil.
- Identical Stranger: Damon continually points out that she looks just like Elena, and while they do, the resemblance is superficial and it comes off as an Informed Attribute.
- Implacable Woman: Her enhanced strength and her ability to resurrect makes her almost unstoppable in her goal of killing vampires.
- Heroic Sacrifice: She gives her last life to Bonnie and then she kills herself.
- Ms. Fanservice: She's very attractive and ends up naked a lot thanks to her Resurrective Immortality not including her clothes, although Censor Steam, Scenery Censor, Shoulders-Up Nudity, and Toplessness from the Back are used to cover up her naughty bits.
- Naked on Revival: Whenever she resurrects herself, she comes back without any clothes.
- Really 700 Years Old: She was born in the 1800's and is able the achieve this thanks to her ability to resurrect combined with aging slowly.
- Resurrective Immortality: Her ability to resurrect allowed her to live for centuries, but she still ages like a normal human and can be killed in normal ways, but when she revives she comes back to her younger self.
- The Stoic: She can be very stoic and taciturn.
- Thanatos Gambit: She agrees to a deal with Damon and the others to die and in the process gives her abilities to Bonnie to cure her of the illness her blood has given her. Though at the moment of her death Rayna reveals that Bonnie will also get her hatred of vampires which will drive her to hunt and kill them and believes that through Bonnie her life long mission will be completed with the added bonus that she will go after Damon.
- The Unfettered: She is driven by only one goal-to kill vampires. She is more specific in hunting the vampires she marked with her knife and knowing where they are at all times because of marking them and will chase them all around the world if necessary until she finds them and kills them.
- Vampire Hunter: Probably the most dangerous one in the entire series.
