Death Weapon Meister Academy: Headmaster, Teachers, and Staff | Students (Crescent Moon, Half Moon, NOT) | Affiliates (Vladingham Family)
Novus Partus: Novus Partus (Project Omega, Anria)
Miscellaneous: Gangs | Other Antagonists
The Vladingham Family is a predominantly Russian clan of Meisters and Demon Weapons. They are a Legacy Family, families or clans that have permanently impacted the Academy during its long and rich history, and the Vladinghams in particular are considered one of the five most influential. Their main claim to fame was winning many critical battles in the long war against the Witch Society.
The Vladingham Family is associated with a little town – Rozniak, Russia – where which they even have a private village in the middle of the Raksha Mountain Range, accessible through a bridge over the Raksha River. An annual event, the Gathering Day, is held in Rozniak every February 2nd. Vladinghams from all over the world flock to Rozniak for a sort of mass reunion where friends and families mingle. It is also a day to celebrate the achievements of graduates—from the DWMA or otherwise.
Unfortunately, February 2nd also marks the tragic end of the Vladingham Family. Two years prior to the beginning of Soul Eater: Troubled Souls, Cancer Lucrenian succeeds in the premeditated genocide of the Vladinghams, the Vladingham Family Massacre, for presently unclear reasons. One boy, Caius, is the last scion of this Legacy Family.
Their most well-known characteristic is the Soul Blaze, an innate ability that allows them to resonate with the environment and produce wavelength flames as a result for a variety of purposes.
Information on this page is gathered from all three mediums (Zeta, Saeculum, and Troubled Souls) as well as any supplemental material. However, do note that some characters on this page have a character page in Soul Eater Zeta.
- Badass Family: Being branded as a top Legacy Family is qualification enough. In addition, it is unspoken tradition for Weapons and Meisters to become Three-Stars before age 21, and they earned their Legacy Family title through winning key battles against Witches.
- Barbarian Tribe: According to Cancer, the Vladinghams behind the Lucrenian Incident are not the legendary, upstanding war heroes today makes them out to be. Rather, they were ruthless savages that made wanton destruction an art form and did acts such as dismembering Cancer, burning said limb, and killing her mother behind her very eyes.
- Color Motifs: Blue. With the occasional red and purple.
- Killed Off for Real: All 122 Vladinghams that attended the Gathering Day died. Caius is the only one left.
- Mother Russia Makes You Strong: The Vladinghams consist of primarily Russian folk note , and they are a badass Legacy Family.
- Playing with Fire: The Vladingham specialty, and it is named “Soul Blaze.” For simplicity's sake, it encompasses the following tropes:
- Faux Flame: Downplayed. Soul Blaze demonstrates a few properties atypical of actual fire. As long as Soul Blaze remains active on a person's body, not even water can extinguish it. This changes as soon as the flames leave the Vladingham's body, and they suddenly become just like regular fire.
- Heart Is an Awesome Power: To oversimplify the mechanics behind Soul Blaze, it is basically resonate with nature using your soul. Now you can manipulate blue or bluish fire to your heart's content.
- In Harmony with Nature: Everything in nature emits a wavelength no matter how small it may be. Soul Blaze works by resonating with the environment around a Vladingham and the manifestation of this phenomenon are the distinct blue or purplish-blue wavelength flames that come out of their bodies.
- Incendiary Exponent: A Vladingham can led Soul Blaze to its partner and tack on fire to normal attacks to increase their effect.
- Kill It with Fire: The ability to combust and burn enemies is seen in higher-level techniques.
- Required Secondary Power: It is completely impossible for a Vladingham to harm him or herself with their own flames, including items she or he possesses on hand. This prevents things like their clothing and whatnot burning up every time Soul Blaze kicks in. Also, as mentioned in Faux Flame, water cannot dowse Soul Blaze if the flames remain idle of his or her body.
- Super-Empowering: To keep the Creation Wavelength in circulation, a non-Vladingham can gain his or her own Soul blaze if she or she proves compatible with a confirmed Vladingham's Creation Wavelength. The next step is for a Vladingham, an older and more experienced one, to help the non-Vladingham unlock their own Soul Blaze through special training. A more advanced form is called "Quorum" where a Vladingham sacrifices use of his or her Soul Blaze to strengthen another's.
- Superpowerful Genetics. The Creation Wavelength is what makes Soul Blaze exist in the first place and is commonly found in Vladingham blood or passed on as said above. The he Creation Wavelength breaks down ‘boundaries’ — for these guys, it’s the ‘boundary’ between their Soul Wavelength and nature.
- Technicolor Fire: Typically, a Vladingham’s Soul Blaze is colored a form of purplish-blue or blue.
- Plot-Triggering Death: Deaths, to be exact, but if the Vladingham Massacre never happened, so wouldn’t have Soul Eater: Troubled Souls.
- Proud Warrior Race Guy: Downplayed. They are skilled and love to celebrate their achievements (Three-Star tradition and the Gathering Day, anyone?), but the Vladingham Family as we know it are too cultured and respectable. This might be a holdover from how the family supposedly was in the past.
Amagai’s Household
- Badass Family: Yes, a Badass Family within a Badass Family. Caius is the one of the main protagonists of Troubled Souls, as is Amagai in Soul Eater Zeta, Katrina is… Katrina, and it is obvious Remus and Phyllis have had their own fulfilling adventures to justify their credentials. Rukia, Chloe, and Frederick get the same treatment by being partners to three of the aforementioned.
- Sibling Yin-Yang: Of the Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling variety. Caius and Chloe are scholarly ones ready to do their work while Phyllis and Remus are the more rambunctious ones.
Note: Please keep all Soul Eater Zeta tropes and information about Amagai here.
- Large Ham: Wouldn’t be Amagai without it."GOOOOD AFTERNOOOOON, MY GRACIOUS OFFSPRIIIIIIING!"
The mother of Caius, Phyllis, Remus, and Chloe, the middle child of the Forsythias, and the wife of Amagai. Nothing appears to have changed much about Rukia, but she has become something of a doting mother.
Note: Please keep all Soul Eater Zeta tropes and information about Rukia here.
- Doting Parent
- Good Girls Avoid Abortion: Implied Trope. By the time she was 21 years old, Rukia already had three children. Yet, here they are, and she is a happy doting mother with the equally happy Amagai by her side.
- Teen Pregnancy: Both Rukia and Amagai were 37 by the time of their deaths. Their oldest child Phyllis was 20. They apparently followed this up with Remus, who was 18.
- Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: She and Remus may squabble and fight, but Phyllis by far demonstrates the most love to him. She comforts him when he is uneasy about the upcoming Gathering Day brawl and she expresses the most gratitude for his cooking.
- Dance Battler: States she integrates her dancing moves into her combat skills.
- Blind Without 'Em: Phyllis wears contacts and contacts only. She has her own pair of emergency glasses but refuses to wear them in fear of looking like a nerd. Luckily, she and Remus have the exact same prescription so he will let her wear his if necessary.
- Cool Big Sis: One to all of her younger siblings.
- Family Honor: Around the time became a Two-Star, she developed her own personal motto – ‘Family first’. Everything she does is for the good of the Vladingham Family, and she would lay down her life for it. Her creed inspires Caius.
- Genki Girl: Chloe mentions, one time, she got so genki that she kicked down the chandelier and shoved her foot into the television.
- Perma-Stubble: He has one.
- The Prankster: Loves pulling pranks on his sisters, something Caius loves to see.
- Real Men Cook: Remus helps his mother do the cooking, and his siblings particularly loves his desserts.
- The Rival: To Alexei.
- Teen Genius: Became a Three-Star while he was fifteen years old. He was a mere three years short of tying with Katrina.
- Worthy Opponent: He fondly his rivals in the Three-Star Trial, particularly someone named Roy Olmett.
- Cool Big Sis: One to Caius.
- Distaff Counterpart: Very similar to Caius in looks and bookishness.
- Self-Imposed Challenge: In-Universe: She is said to love doing these to keep herself occupied.
- Smart People Wear Glasses: Red glasses at that.
- Telescoping Staff: Her weapon form. She also exhibits a degree of autotomy while in that, being able to extend and contract her staff’s length and return to Remus’s hand.
Vladimir’s Household
- Retcon: Two names exist for this character. Entry #2 of Saeculum calls him Vladimir, but Chapter 22 of Troubled Souls calls him Vasyl. It is currently unknown which is the true name, but the former is selected for convenience based on the fact it’s the most used.
- Battle Couple: Alexei and Hilda are meister and weapon, boyfriend and girlfriend.
- Determinator: He will fight to the end of the Gathering Day if it means victory.
- Never Found the Body: Following the massacre, Alexei and his father went missing…
- Finally Found the Body: …for only several weeks. Their bodies were found as scraps of flesh buried under the snow.
- The Rival: To Remus.
- Say My Name: REMUS!
- Cheaters Never Prosper: Wanting to give his older brother an edge in the battle royale, Vyoma gives Chloe a sabotaged Rubix cube to keep her and Remus out of the Gathering Day brawl. Unfortunately for him, Amagai fixed the situation and Remus was able to join the fight.
- Love Triangle: Thanks to his siblings, Caius implicitly believes Vyoma is competition for Marina’s affection.
