Summoned Heroes

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/seireigensoukiheroes.jpg
From left to right: Erika, Takahisa, Renji, Rui, Satsuki and Hiroaki

  • Deconstructed Character Archetype:
    • Of the Stock Light-Novel Hero and Summon Everyman Hero: teenagers who are summoned randomly regardless of their individual personalities and demeanor are certain to be unpredictable. Simultaneously, the values they hold won't necessary align with the natives of the new world, which will interfere with any semblance of common sense between them. These heroes may wind up becoming an incompetent puppet (Hiroaki), a self-righteous Hypocrite (Takahisa) or a chaotic revolutionary (Erika). What's worse is these "heroes" are akin to deterrents by the respective nations who summon them; if their friends are unwillingly brought along with them during the summoning process, chances are they will be used as hostages and leverage to bend the heroes to the summoner's will. Also, their "Divine Weapons" don't mean a thing if their opponent happens to be more experienced in combat (especially with power to match theirs), as shown by Rio, Lucius Orgueil, Saga Gouki and Saga Kayoko.
    • Each of the six also represent a character Deconstruction seen throughout isekai fiction and taken into a negative light.
      • Hiroaki is the Hikkikomori Loser Protagonist: because he is sent to another world and given status as a hero, he believes he's entitled to anything he wants, on the assumption he's the "protagonist" of the story, not caring about the customs and surroundings of this new world. Unfortunately, the things he does are deemed an embarrassment, yet he's only tolerated because of his status as a hero. Furthermore, Hiroaki deconstructs New Life in Another World Bonus - while he has devastating power as a hero, his fundamentals and understanding of his own abilities is severely lacking to the point where he can best the average person, but against someone with power equal to that of a hero with years of fighting experience, they can beat Hiroaki effortlessly.
      • Takahisa is an extreme case of deconstructing Protagonist-Centered Morality: he believes that as the "protagonist", he's entitled to the Childhood Friend on the assumption that since they've been together for years, they will wind up together in the end, not knowing that his Love Interest has been pining for someone else for a lot longer than Takahisa has known her. Taken to its logical conclusion where Takahisa ends up kidnapping Ayase Miharu, reasoning he needs to "steal her away" so she cannot be with Rio. Furthermore, Takahisa also deconstructs the "naive, pacifist Japanese" protagonist who espouses non-violence against an explicitly dangerous environment and social setting to the point of being a Suicidal Pacifist because he's too stubborn to adjust with his surroundings, all while maintaining how "Japanese morals" should be a standard when the other world has no reason to go along with it when it's not a part of their culture.
      • Renji represents a protagonist Genre Savvy about isekai tropes upon entering a new world, but in his efforts at trying to be subversive, combined with his No Social Skills and cockiness as a hero, this backfires hard on him, particularly a Tragic Mistake that could have been avoided. Meanwhile, Renji in the Web Novel is a deconstruction of the Chuunibyou protagonist as he tends to be a "mysterious savior" living on a Power Fantasy who likes to charge into fights, but quickly leaves the scene without explaining himself, something which frustrates Princess Sylvie Rubia of the Kingdom of Rubia to no end.
      • Satsuki might have the immense power of a hero, but she is still a girl: in a setting where women don't wield as much political power as men do and heroes are more-or-less political tools of nations, her own movements are restricted to that of a figurehead and a convenient candidate for marriage negotiations between countries.
      • Rui, despite being a Reconstruction of The Ace, serves as a protagonist who doesn't want to be active in the on-going plot. While it does keep him away from trouble, the narrative doesn't stop just for him since he's not the main character of Seirei Gensouki. By the time he's forced to become active, Rui is severely restrained by circumstances that he cannot back out from.
      • Erika is the example of a protagonist who tries to change the political climate of the world because it hurt them in some way. While her methods might be doable in a Crapsack World, the new world in Seirei Gensouki is neither Dark Fantasy nor Grimdark enough as there exist kingdoms who are politically competent and fair-minded. Her motives essentially makes her nothing more than the medieval equivalent of an anarchist, who so happens to have great power as a hero at her disposal. Also, Erika is an example of the isekai protagonist who suddenly gains a Cult of Personality that revolves around and worships her, to the point where she willingly uses her followers for nefarious means. While such examples in the genre are usually of the light-hearted, comedic variety, Erika's methodology is that of a means to an end so she can find someone who can kill her, allowing her to be Together in Death with her fiancee.
  • Irony: Despite having the title of heroes, five of the six have done villainous actions that Rio has to deal with personally.
    • Hiroaki turns Drunk with Power (not helped by Beltrum Kingdom nobles enabling his whims), causing such an overinflated ego that it turns troublesome for the Restorationists. This comes to a head when Princess Christina Beltrum requests that Rio crush Hiroaki in a way where the latter cannot make any excuses.
    • Takahisa kidnaps Miharu after a botched Love Confession, forcing Rio to rescue her (not caring that his powers are revealed in the process) and, in a rare moment of anger, punches Takahisa so hard that he would've been killed were it not for his Divine Weapon protecting him.
    • Rui is forced to be The Dragon to Charles Arbor in chasing down and capturing Christina across Beltrum. Unlike the other examples, it so happens that Rui's objectives (returning his friends who have gone along with the princess) coincides with the orders given to him. On the other hand, he expresses relief that he is beaten by Rio as he doesn't want to be a part of the search party at all.
    • Like Rui, Renji is also forced to be The Dragon to Lucius and Reiss Vulfe, but unlike Rui, the mess he makes is actually his own fault when he blindly charges in and makes an attempt at saving Princess Estelle Rubia of the Rubia Kingdom without assessing the situation, causing him to be duped into a duel and lose to its terms. As he is bound to his oathkeeper, he joins them in an ambush to kill Rio and capture the Beltrum Kingdom's princesses, but is easily swatted aside by Rio when Renji's powers are canceled out by Rio, who happens to be better with his powers.
    • Erika is the worst offender of the bunch: not only does she kidnap Liselotte Cretia so she can brazenly state her absurd demands to the King of Galarc, she also tries holding Second Princess Charlotte Galarc hostage on the spot as an additional bargaining chip until Rio stops her with brute force. When that doesn't work, she attempts to kill everyone by destroying the room (bystanders be damned), but Rio interrupts her magic with Spirits Arts. Knowing she's severely outmatched, Erika wisely backs down and retreats while taunting at how she is successful with her objective. For the first time since Rio is Knighted by the King of Galarc, he asks that the King directly commands him to chase down Erika and save Liselotte. Taken further in the story that Erika is doing this as part of a Zero-Approval Gambit - by forming a crusade, she hopes to stir as much chaos as possible so that someone can finally kill her.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: This is a standard power the heroes gain upon being summoned - nothing can truly kill them as even decapitating their heads is useless when the severed head simply returns to its respective body. Unfortunately, they don't have the immunity to pain as Required Secondary Powers or the mental fortitude of seeing their limbs cut off, thus a sadistic opponent like Lucius can take his time to break them. Erika, on the other hand, considers this as Blessed with Suck since she can't find a way to kill herself.
  • Protagonist-Centered Morality: Deconstructed due to each summoned hero having different and, more often than not, conflicting personalities, such that the respective nations who summoned them would have to twist their own arms to get the heroes to work with them, resulting in most of them becoming either too politically non-savvy, socially incompetent, self-absorbed and hypocritical or an anarchistic rebel.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: For the most part, these six people are ordinary Japanese civilians with no combat experience, but they have access to Divine Weapons exclusive to the new world's heroes and Earthlings tend to possess bigger Mana reserves, alongside being essentially unkillable. Some of them, like Satsuki, have prior experience with holding an actual weapon. Unfortunately, this is also deconstructed since even though they have Nigh-Invulnerability and Infinity Plus One Swords, a Strong and Skilled opponent (especially if said opponent is very sadistic) could easily break their will to fight.

    Sakata Hiroaki

A hero summoned by the Beltrum Kingdom's Restorationist faction.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: To Liselotte - Hiroaki is infatuated with her and tries his hardest to get her to enter into an Arranged Marriage with him, but she's uninterested in him due to his arrogant, Narcissistic personality.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Hiroaki's powers become this during his fight with Rio - although he relies on the destructive output of his Divine Weapon, he movements are easily deduced such that Rio can dodge or deflect Hiroaki's strikes with ease. When one of Hiroaki's techniques nearly hit spectators, Rio and Orphia are forced to intervene, showing that Hiroaki still lacks any semblance of self-control. Furthermore, his use of his longsword Divine Weapon is so unruly for him that it hardly resembles basic swordsmanship; Rio, a seasoned swordsman, has no trouble against a rank amateur.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Hiroaki challenges Rio to sparring match in hopes of humiliating him to a crowd, despite knowing that Rio had defeated Alfred Emal, the "King's Sword" (the strongest knight in Beltrum) and Rui, another hero like Hiroaki.
  • Character Development: After being curbstomped by Renji and learning that someone was able to fend off the invaders of Beltrum using his Signature Move that is stronger and more complete than his, Hiroaki realized how him slacking off and running away from reality almost cost the lives of everyone around him. When Masato introduced himself as the new hero, the normally braggart attitude of Hiroaki was noticeably absent, who stuck to to a curt, but neutral greeting. This change in behavior did not escape Satsuki's notice, who had been acquainted with him prior.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • His duel with Rio; after all of his delusional boasting that he would thoroughly win, not only are Hiroaki's attacks deflected, dodged or countered, Rio doesn't bother fighting seriously and spends time during the duel lecturing Hiroaki on how not to use Awesome But Impratical moves.
    • He gets another one against Renji, but Subverted this time as he takes it much more seriously, using the frustration he felt at the loss with Rio as a drive to become stronger.
  • Freudian Excuse: He became a Hikikomori after failing his university entrance exams and immersed himself in video games and Light Novels. This causes him to falsely believe that his career as a summoned hero will turn out just as well in fictional media.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: The more time Hiroaki spends in the new world, the more his ego increases, so much that he becomes envious whenever another person one-ups him. This can be seen with him showing off his strength after he is paralyzed with fear just to salvage his reputation and ruining an emotional reunion between Christina and her younger sister Flora Beltrum because Hiroaki happens to notice Rio and his party (which consists largely of girls). He also tends to downplay people who have done the heavy lifting just to nurse his bruised ego.
  • Harem Seeker: Deconstructed; he wants to get multiple wives using his hero status, but Beltrum nobles note that he has no actual plan for properly dealing with the hierarchy of his potential wives. Also, he considers his harem-seeking antics akin to a game, not aware that he's dealing with actual people with emotions.
  • Humiliation Conga: Hiroaki's duel with Rio turns into a sequential trainwreck - first, his "Yamata-no-Orochi" spell, despite its name, is able to produce only five dragons. Even then, Rio is able to avoid and block or counter the dragons easily, noting how Hiroaki's so-called "swordsmanship" is nothing more than him "trying to hit his enemy with brute force disguised as a technique". Despite using a stronger version of the spell, nothing works against Rio, who begins chastising him like a professor in the midst of combat. This causes Hiroaki to lash out at Rio for not going all out. Meanwhile, two of the dragons nearly hit spectators to the duel because of Hiroaki's outburst, which Rio and Orphia are able to deal with.
  • Hypocrite: He voices his disapproval of Takahisa and his attempted kidnapping of Miharu, stating that he shouldn't be abusing his authority as the hero when Hiroaki himself is doing exactly that.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard:
    • Hiroaki challenging Rio on the excuse of a sparring session to "practice his Divine Weapon" (in reality, Hiroaki wants to embarrass Rio in front of the girls). He ends up getting toyed and lectured on in the fight by Rio.
    • He breaks off his engagement with Flora out of spite after seeing how her and Christina are more comfortable talking with Rio. Christina is more than happy to oblige with the cancellation, but withdraws support from the Restorationists, thus any talk of marriage with another party will be left solely for Hiroaki to do.
  • It's All About Me: Combined with Green-Eyed Monster, Hiroaki gets annoyed whenever someone steals the spotlight from him. His disappointment is an Understatement when the Galarc Banquet favors the other heroes while he is ignored.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Hiroaki was a promising student, but failing to enter his dream university hit him hard. It's implied his arrogant attitude as a hero is his way of compensating for his shortcomings. When Liselotte rejects his engagement proposal, in contrast to his unusual bravado, Hiroaki muses on committing suicide and wanting to return to Earth.
  • Insane Troll Logic: In exchange for marrying Princess Rosalie Galarc to keep the Restorationists stable, he requests that Liselotte become his third wife, as Duke Gustave Huguenot manages to arrange for the two to meet to discuss about a potential engagement themselves. Hiroaki argues that because Liselotte shows up, it's proof she likes him and tries to make it look as if she is the one who wants to marry him, while convincing her that many people are wanting them to get married for the sake of the Restorationists. Unimpressed, Liselotte states that if it's for the latter's sake, he would be better off marrying Rosalie over her and that she doesn't have any intention of marrying him.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Despite how much of a douchebag Hiroaki is, he's right to point out that the hero summoning process is basically abduction since the summoned heroes and anyone unlucky enough to be in their proximity is transported to another world without their permission.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: His Divine Weapon is a katana namaed Yamata-No-Orochi that allows him to control water.
  • No Social Skills: Downplayed; Hiroaki's not completely Genre Blind to the atmosphere of a situation and has some skill at navigating politics, but due to him being a Hikikomori and having an inflated ego being stroked continuously by Beltrum nobles because of his status as a hero, Hiroaki has no tact - any time he speaks, the situation turns awkward for certain parties present. At one point, he calls Celia Claire "legal jailbait", which fortunately goes over the head of most people in the room, while the ones who do understand what he said are downright disgusted by this tactlessness.
  • Paper Tiger: Despite his delusions of grandeur at being a powerful hero, he cowers the moment his group is under attack by monsters summoned by Reiss.
  • Sore Loser: When out-matched by Rio in their duel, rather than accept his defeat like Rui and Satsuki, Hiroaki throws a tantrum and angrily calls him a "half-assed bastard" for not going at full power, not realizing he was severely outmatched from the start.
  • Technician Versus Performer: Hiroaki is the performer to Rio's technician in their duel - Hiroaki uses flashy-looking spells and a longsword, which is difficult to be wielded by beginners. It may work against ordinary Mooks, but in a fight against Rio, who has trained hard and is a combat veteran, is defeated by nothing more than basic swordplay and footwork (with the occasional use of Spirit Arts). It doesn't help that Hiroaki isn't spending more time training to get used to his abilities and would rather flirt with girls and boast about his status.
  • Unwitting Pawn: He's being used as a figurehead for Duke Huguenot to boost the reputation of the Restorationists. Downplayed as Hiroaki's aware to some extent that he's being used, but sees no need to go against it due to the benefits he gets.
  • Smarter Than You Look: It's easy to forget, but this boy was once a promising academic student who fell into depression after failing to pass the university entrance exam to his first choice. He's an opportunist, if rather short-sighted, isn't blind to the fact he's being used by Duke Huegenot for political purposes and doesn't go out of his way to ruin Hiroaki's reputation. He's also shown to be a quick learner during his mock battle against Rio, where Duke Huegenot notes Hiroaki's noticeably improving in the midst of combat as he begins listening to Rio's suggestions on how to improve his method of fighting. Hiroaki even pokes holes in Takahisa's arguments several times when the latter resorts to repeating his own ideals again and again.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome:
    • Hiroaki spending his time acting like a normal high-school student rather than reflect on his loss to Rio and practicing his swordplay hits him hard when he is faced with fellow hero Renji. It reaches a point where he's out of stamina after a short clash, whereas Renji doesn't even break a sweat. Also, his Divine Weapon's water element is severely outmatched against Renji’s ice powers that his usual tactic of overwhelming his opponent doesn’t even work and Hiroaki can’t think of any other way to use his abilities. With that said, this isn't all for naught as the newfound bonds he forms with Saiki Rei and Murakumo Kouta allows him to slowly move past his hang-ups and serve as a catalyst to his eventual Character Development, turning him into an interesting foil to Renji, who slowly Jumped Off The Slippery Slope after losing against stronger opponents.

    Sumeragi Satsuki

The hero of the Galarc Kingdom, Sumeragi Satsuki is one of Miharu's friends and her Senpai at their high school before they were summoned to the other world.

  • Alliterative Name: Sumeragi Satsuki.
  • Blow You Away: Her Divine Weapon is a spear and grants her the ability to control wind.
  • Cool Big Sis: Her overall personality makes her feel like she's known Rio for a few years and is a pleasant person to talk to, in general (unless she becomes annoyed).
  • Heroic BSoD: Satsuki suffers one shortly after being summoned and spends her time in the castle depressed for a few months. Once she reunites with Miharu does she finally get over it.
  • Marry for Love: Much to the frustration of Galarc royalty, Satsuki has no intention of marrying for the sake of politics as she ignores Prince Michel Galarc's advances due to her being Genre Savvy at knowing the Galarc Kingdom is trying to tie her down to the nation for the sake of using her hero title to their advantage.
  • The Ojou: As the daughter of the CEO of the "Sumeragi Group", Satsuki is used to interacting with people of high social standing, such as Galarc nobility. However, her personality during informal settings is more of a Cool Big Sis.
  • Shipper on Deck: She ships Miharu and Rio, due to the former's feelings for the latter as she tries to help both of them convey their feeling for each other. She also uses this as a excuse when Charlotte inquires about Satsuki marrying Rio, having noticed her growing affection for him.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Back in Japan, she was known to have an absurdly high standard for men. It's little wonder Charlotte believes she's developed an interest in Rio, who has the qualities she's looking for.
  • Skilled, but Naive: Due to her prior experience with a naginata, Satsuki is a great fighter who can effectively use her Divine Weapon, a short spear, but she lacks experience in real combat, as Rio points out in their duel.
  • Student Council President: She was one during her time in high school back in Japan. Her experience as a leader allows her to listen to others and work out the most optimal course of action, with Rio praising her skill at leadership.
  • Tsundere: As she starts interacting with Rio, she tends to get flustered when it seems that she is responding to him romantically, and tells him not to get the wrong idea, although her actions usually contradict her words.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Satsuki gives a stern warning to Rio during the Galarc Banquet after he tries to have Miharu not stay with him when he worries about her safety despite the fact that she is in love with him.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: She tears into Takahisa and Aki upon learning they tried to kidnap Miharu, telling Takahisa that Miharu specifically chose Rio and reminding Aki she's no longer a child who needs to be doted by Miharu anymore, while having to face the consequences of her actions in regards to the failed kidnapping.

    Shigekura Rui

The hero summoned by the Beltrum Kingdom's royal family, Shigekura Rui is a half-Japanese with blonde hair who knows Satsuki due to their respective families' connections and vice-versa.

  • The Ace: Was one in Japan and is also one of the most skilled heroes summoned. Rui is able to properly learn the new world's language in a short period of time, allowing him to teach it to his friends who were summoned along with him. Per his own words, losing to Rio in a fight is the first time he ever lost at something while he was serious.
  • Boring, but Practical: Rui's preferred method of combat involves firing weak, but precisely aimed shots with his Divine Weapon that are often too fast for others to avoid. He will also coordinate with his allies, if possible.
  • Glass Cannon: Subverted; as one of the summoned heroes, Rui has access to high-level body strengthening. Even if his opponent is able to close the gap and land a clean hit, he can still shrug it off. Unfortunately, his opponent is Rio, who manages to knock him down in one hit upon getting close enough.
  • Friendly Enemy: Justified with Rio, since neither wants to fight one another and are only standing on opposite sides when they both have different objectives (Rui wants to return his friends to the castle on the belief they were taken, while Rio wants to escort Princess Christina to Galarc).
  • Nice Guy: In contrast to other heroes such as Hiroaki, Takahisa and Renji, Rui is shown to be more polite and mellow, as he also lacks the arrogance that the other males heroes displayed. Due to this, he is the only hero (along with Satsuki) to befriend Rio.
  • Official Couple: Turns out he's in a relationship with someone back in Japan, and is loyal to her. Played With, as his relationship factors into the story in two ways.
    • It causes his friend Kouta to grow jealous of him, as the girl who Rui started dating is Kouta's Childhood Friend, who he had a crush on, thus contributing to him wanting to leave the castle and Rui to chase after him.
    • It also causes problems for the Arbor faction as Duke Arbor cannot send his granddaughter as a bride for Rui in order to strengthen the faction's chances of seizing the Beltrum throne.
  • Reconstruction: Rui serves as an example of The Ace summoned to another world. In isekai fiction, whenever an ace student enters a new setting, if they aren't the story's protagonist, chances are they're usually depicted as an antagonist to the main character, who is either an Ordinary High-School Student or Otaku, and would be depicted with a Tautological Templar mindset or have a sense of entitlement because they believe they're the Chosen One because of their isekai circumstances. Rui, however, does a complete opposite - he secures the safety of his friends unwillingly brought along with him and makes sure they can adapt in the new world via its Language Barrier. Furthermore, his Nice Guy personality doesn't change despite receiving a substantial power boost and newfound hero status. Even his fighting style reflects this, where he prefers precise, practical maneuvers over flamboyancy. Finally, Rui is the only male hero on amicable terms with Rio, taking his defeat with no hard feelings and resentment.

    Sendou Takahisa

The hero summoned by the Centostella Kingdom, Sendou Takahisa is the older biological brother of Sendou Masato and the older step-brother to Sendou Aki. He's also a close friend of Miharu and Satsuki at their high school.

  • Black-and-White Insanity: One of his reasons for hating Rio is because Takahisa sees him nothing more than an "evil murderer", yet he conveniently ignores the fact that Rio killed a group of slave traders in order to save Miharu, Aki and Masato, or that he actively avoids killing, if possible. His knowledge of Rio's past life as Amakawa Haruto reinforces this. It's likely Takahisa's trying to find fault in his rivalry for Miharu's affections, though due to his Sanity Slippage, one can argue it could also be a case of Believing Their Own Lies.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: He's been in love with Miharu for a long time, but never confessed out of fear of being rejected. When he does end up delivering a Love Confession, it happens at the worst possible moment for him, just after Miharu admits that she likes Rio.
  • Didn't Think This Through: His plan to kidnap Miharu - not only is it hastily thought up, Takahisa doesn't even think of the consequences of kidnapping a friend of the Galarc Kingdom's hero and newly-appointed Honorary Knight, as well as the potential diplomatic damages it will cause between Galarc and Centostella. Even Rio Lampshades on the foolishness of this act.
  • Disappointed in You : Masato challenges his brother to a duel to make him stop sulking and hiding in his room after the events in Galarc. While Masato is able to match and almost defeat Takahisa despite his age and size (and thanks to some prior training from Rio), Takahisa uses his Divine Weapon at the last moment to gain the upper hand. Masato is disappointed his brother took the easy way to win.
  • Dog-Kicking Excuse: He's already jealous of Rio for gaining Miharu's affections well before learning Rio has killed someone before, but Takahisa keeps his enmity to himself until he learns of something he can use against Rio since it wouldn't be as socially acceptable, otherwise.
  • Entitled to Have You: Takahisa believes he is this to Miharu on the justification that Rio is a killer in an effort to separate the two, until she calls out for treating her as an object.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: He's willing to lie and deceive just he can keep Miharu by his side.
  • Hate Sink: Although the character starts off as an Ordinary High-School Student who has the misfortune of being unwillingly brought into another world, his jealousy of Rio starts twisting him into an unsympathetic character. After meeting Rio, he starts holding a grudge against him, despite saving Miharu, Masato and Aki from slavers. Takahisa makes his grudge known when Rio becomes open to the idea of letting Miharu join him, and latches onto any reason to out Rio as the villain. Upon losing a fight to determine whether or not Rio should refuse Miharu's affections, Takahisa hypocritically kidnaps Miharu despite all the damage this would do to his reputation and to Centostella's political clout. Once his plan is foiled, Takahisa is cathartically punched out by Rio, has strained his friendships with several characters, and is forced to live with the disgrace of his actions. Next to Lucius being Rio's Arch-Enemy, Takahisa has nothing redeemable about him.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: His Divine Weapon is a sword named "Laevatinn", which allows him to control fire.
  • Hypocrite: A Fatal Flaw of Takahisa's character that numerous people calls him out on.
    • Upon hearing that Miharu, Aki, and Masato were nearly made into slaves upon being summoned, he states that people should never have the will of others forced on them. He later proceeds to do exactly that by kidnapping Miharu.
    • When Takahisa argues with Masato about taking action regarding the defense of Galarc, Takahisa asserts his right of speech, while simultaneously forcing his brother to shut up.
    • Takahisa accuses Masato that his way of thinking will lead to totalitarianism, but Hiroaki throw the argument back at Takahisa, stating that he's the one behaving like a dictator for trying to assert his opinion onto Satsuki and Masato.
  • Hypocrite Has a Point: Combined with Jerkass Has a Point, Takahisa calls out Rio for being indecisive about whether or not to distance himself from Miharu, regardless of the latter's feelings. However, he's mainly saying this more for his own sake due to his obsessive crush for Miharu, which eventually leads him to disregard her feelings entirely outright and kidnap her.
  • Jerkass to One: While he is usually polite to most people he encounters, Takahisa develops an intense loathing towards Rio due to Miharu being in love with him as he attempts to sabotage their relationship in various ways.
  • Megaton Punch: On the receiving end of this - Rio punches him so hard to the face after trying to kidnap Miharu that Takahisa only gets a broken nose from a Spirit Art-enhanced punch that was strong enough to break his neck were he not a hero and had his Divine Weapon protecting him.
  • Sanity Slippage: Being summoned to another world alone with no guarantee of returning to Earth, plus worrying about his family and friends for months certainly took its toll on him by the time he appears in the story.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Since Takahisa spent his time sulking in his room in Centostella wallowing in his defeat against Rio and the loss of Miharu's affections, Takahisa has the least Character Development of the six heroes. This leads to him still being naïve of the narrative situation as a whole and his stubbornness at sticking with his original world's morals makes him nothing more than a nuisance in the eyes of his fellow heroes.
  • Suicidal Pacifism: Takahisa believes that "Violence is bad" whole-heartedly that even defending themselves and their loved ones with force is evil to him. This line of thinking leads to the other heroes looking down at his naivety, labeling him as nothing more than a clueless Dirty Coward.
  • Oblivious Mockery: He always calls Rio a murderer, not knowing he's surrounded by knights who are forced to similarly kill due to their duties. Princess Liliana Centostella has to reprimand Takahisa to watch his mouth or he might offend the knights within earshot.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Is on the receiving end from Hiroaki of all people - he slams Takahisa's argument against violence by stating there is a difference between being a Suicidal Pacifist and a Martial Pacifist. When Takahisa stubbornly sticks to his ideals, Hiroaki asks King Francois Galarc not to include him as he will be nothing more than a nuisance. When Takahisa hears Masato and Satsuki is willing to participate in the defense of Galarc, he immediately tries to argue that they are wrong, but Hiroaki again calls him out on his hypocrisy and cowardice, stating that Masato has a better understanding of the situation than him.

    Kikuchi Renji

The hero summoned to a lake in the Vilkis Kingdom, Kikuchi Renji is unaffiliated with any nation and is operating as an adventurer, although he remains a close friend of Princesses Sylvie and Estelle of the Rubia Kingdom.

  • Didn't Think This Through: While his intention to save Estelle is noble, he carelessly jumps into the confrontation between Sylvie and Reiss without any knowledge of the backround of what happened and how strong his potential opponents are, as Renji underestimates them, leading to a Curb-Stomp Battle by Lucius, Estelle remaining a captive and Sylvie capitulating to the Proxia Empire in order to save her sister and Renji.
  • Failure Hero: Renji wants to do the right thing, but keeps messing up when it really matters, often to catastrophic results.
  • Genre Savvy: He's quite knowledgeable about isekai stories as he tries to keep his identity as a hero hidden. Deconstructed in that his insistence at keeping it secret alongside his unwillingness to be under someone's authority, much like many of the stories he's read, leads to him making mistakes at critical moments.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: A few months after his Tragic Mistake, he Took a Level in Jerkass and has become arrogant on top of his aloofness. Part of this has to do with him trying to not remember the events in the village where he stays with Rhea, as he manages to befriend both princesses of the Rubia Kingdom and tries to save the latter after learning that she is being held hostage.
  • Jumping Off the Slippery Slope: After experiencing one-sided fights from people who aren't heroes (Lucius) and jealousy from seeing someone pull off what he can't do despite being a hero (Rio), Renji willingly aligns with Reiss in order to gain more power.
  • Manchild: After Sylvie commands him to get out of the Rubia Kingdom, Renji acts like a petulant child and declares that he will never leave the palace, even using an Insane Troll Logic to justify his stay.
  • No Social Skills: Renji's Fatal Flaw as a hero - while those who put the time to get to know him will see that he's a kind person beneath his aloof persona, most tend to be put off by his way of speaking.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Renji set his sights on Rio who No Sells his attacks despite not wielding a Divine Weapon, combined with his jealousy of seeing the latter able to save the Beltrum Kingdom's princesses while fending off attacks from the Rubia Kingdom's army, Lucius' underlings and himself. Not helping this is Renji is also denied avenging his humiliating loss against Lucius, whom Rio has Killed Off for Real earlier.
  • Never My Fault: His greatest flaw as a character - Renji will do things as he pleases, but when things start to go south, he will try to pass the blame onto somebody other than himself. He even has the gall to blame Sylvie of all people because they failed to "save" Estelle when he disregards that he agreed to a duel with Lucius and Sylvie can't just save her sister without endangering the entire Rubia Kingdom simultaneously.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Had he revealed that he is the hero summoned from another world, his Tragic Mistake could have been Averted. As No Social Skills points out, Renji tends to rub people the wrong way with the way he talks, and while his distrust of others is Justified, it's the cause of a Tragic Mistake shortly thereafter post-summoning.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: On the receiving end from Sylvie because of how Renji makes everything worse in terms of negotiations between the Proxia Empire and the Rubia Kingdom due to his cockiness and rushing straight without considering the consequences. This prompts Sylvie to declare him as an enemy of the kingdom and commands him to flee the castle and never return, lest she strikes him down herself.
  • Smug Super: He already has shades of this during his short stay in the village he meets Rhea, but the months following his escape only raises his ego as a result of him trying to avoid facing the fact that he is partly to blame for the events and letting his power get to his head.
  • Tragic Mistake: He kills members of the interrogation team sent to the village he's staying days after his summoning due to the ensuing chaos of him resisting arrest, which forces him to go on the run leave Rhea behind.

    Sakuraba Erika

The last hero introduced in Seirei Gensouki, unlike the others, Sakuraba Erika has no ties to any kingdom, but instead, leads her own nation, the "Holy Democratic Republic of Erika".

  • Aristocrats Are Evil: She believes all royalty and an aristocratic system within a nation are inherently evil, thus they must be wiped out in the face of the world or renounce their titles and join her cause.
  • Beneath the Mask: Beneath her saintly persona is a woman hellbent on tearing down the current world order of monarchy and nobility on the belief that every person has a beast inside them.
  • Broken Bird: Due to countless misfortunes that she experienced upon being summoned, she was slowly driven mad causing her to have a Dissonant Serenity and Empty Eyes all the time.
  • Blessed with Suck: She considers the hero's power of Nigh-Invulnerability as this since suicide will not work. As a Death Seeker, Erika is desperate enough to sow chaos as much as possible in hopes that someone has the ability to permanently put her down will appear.
  • Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie: Erika requests to Rio that she be buried beside her fiancée on a waterfall near the town where they were first summoned to the other world.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Erica's default expression is this when kidnapping Liselotte or straight up trying to kill everyone in a room full of bystanders. The only time her expression is broken is when Rio disables her Divine Weapon to stop her magic.
  • Egopolis: The democratic kingdom she establishes shares her name, including its capital city, "Ericaburg".
  • Jeanne d'Archétype: Erika models herself as this, complete with a legion of followers under her banner and her introduction in the story is her leading a revolution against the nobility.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Rio stabs Erica's heart hoping that this will stop her; unfortunately, the heroes' Nigh-Invulnerability means she's able to revive. In their rematch, Rio does it again, but due to Erika burning out her magic to an extreme degree, alongside Rio's newly awakened powers, it finally sticks.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: When Erika's plan to kidnap and/or kill another member of royalty is foiled by Rio (who, at this point, is ready to use force against her), she backs down and wisely leaves the Galarc Kindgom, but not before taunting everyone in the room that her objectives are fulfilled.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Despite building her image as a holy saint, her true personality is of a Straw Nihilist bent on seeing the world burn. She will even use the deaths of her underlings (that she kills with her own hands) as a means to declare war on other nations.
  • Magic Staff: Erika's Divine Weapon is a staff that can control earth. She also uses this as a bludgeoning weapon which can be deadly together with her Super-Strength.
  • The Revolution Will Not Be Civilized: The first thing she does is to use her powers as a hero to destroy a castle and wiping out its inhabitants, while declaring that she is going to take down the nobility in the continent.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Erika has a only one objective in mind - kill all members of royalty and dismantle any form of aristocratic system in the world. She'll do anything from kidnapping to mass murder just to achieve her goals, with her conscience unaffecting her as she believes her actions are justified.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: After the villagers who helped her and her fiancee sold them out to the nobles, causing the latter's death, Erika walks on a path of Revenge against the new world as a result of it taking away the person she loved the most in the hopes that someone could kill her permanently so she can be Togther In Death with him.
  • Zero-Approval Gambit: This was Erika's plan all along - by causing unrest with the commoner masses and destroying kingdoms, Erika hopes that someone will appear with an ability to kill her for good. She gets her wish when Rio (with a newly awakened power) is able to finally kill her.
