A former high-ranking officer in the United Arab Republic armed forces, power falls into the hands of Omar Suleiman following the collapse of the union. Suleiman then has to choose which path is best for Egypt: a transition to democracy, restoring the monarchy, or staying in power as president-for-life, or something else entirely.
  • Cincinnatus: Suleiman could very well choose to begin Egypt's transition towards democracy. Once the constitution is written, and elections are called, he will step down once the votes are counted.
  • Opportunistic Bastard: Suleiman can, however, choose to remain in the position as president of Egypt, essentially creating a presidential-dictatorship.
  • Rightful King Returns: In probably one of the oddest focus tree branches in the entire game, Suleiman can proclaim a New Egyptian Empire, returning the country to the Pharaohs, and declare himself Thutmose V of the 34th Dynasty.
    • Furthermore, Suleiman can also instead give the crown to Fuad II, either naming him King or Sultan.

If the player chooses to play as Syria when it seperates from the United Arab Republic, and if Sharaf decides declare war on Syria, Syria will have an uphill battle fighting against the UAR. But if the player does win and decides to puppet Egypt, they can play as the Lower Nile Arab Republic. Soon Aswan will rebel and Egypt will be divided with the Syrian Puppeted North and Aswad's Military Junta diving Egypt permanently, unless the two sides can agree to unite diplomatically or by war.

The dream child of Muammar Gaddafi, the Arab Islamic Republic is a a union between Libya and Tunisia. The country's ideology is based on a mixture of Arab nationalism and socialism. However, its emphasis on the former brought tensions with the United Arab Republic, along with the latter country's desire for a secular state. As a result, the two have remained at odds with one another. At the time of the game's start, stability in the AIR is dwindling as a result of growing Tunisian nationalism, and discontent over corruption within the Gaddafi regime. Within the first year of the game starting, the Arab Islamic Republic splits following Tunisia's declaration of independence. Libya eventually descends into a six-way civil war.

  • Commie Nazis: Gaddafi's ideology is listed as National Bolshevik, as it mixes a red economy with Arab nationalism and Islamism.

Gaddafi came to power in a bloodless coup against King Idris I in 1969. He has taken the title of Brotherly Leader and Guide of the Revolution, and continues to rule with near absolute power. His growing eccentricities, and accusations of corruption have diminished his reputation within his government, and even military officials. It is believed the days of the Gaddafi regime are coming to a close.
  • Green and Mean: In addition to the completely green flag, Gaddafi wrote an entire book on his philosophy that is known simply as The Green Book.

A native of Benghazi, Magariaf is an economist who previously worked on the board of auditors for the Revenue Court. However, his campaign of anti-corruption rubbed the leadership the wrong way, and he was sent to India as Ambassador. When recalled in 1980, Magariaf instead fled to Morocco out of fear he would be purged. He has now returned to Libya with the mission to democratize the country.
  • Assassin Outclassin'': Magariaf survived three assassination attempts during his self-exile in Morocco.
  • Internal Reformist: While he was on the board of auditors, Magariaf became frustrated with the level of corruption in Gaddafi's regime, and was vocal about his discontent. This resulted in his reassignment as Ambassador to India, and subsequent assassination attempts following his flight to Morocco.

Haftar was once a high ranking official in the Libyan military, having assisted Gaddafi in the coup which began the regime. However, during the war with Chad, Haftar was captured and held captive, becoming an embarrassment to Gaddafi. It was during his captivity Haftar became disillusioned with Gaddafi's leadership, and plotted to overthrow him. When Libya began to descend into chaos, he saw this as his opportunity, and he mobilized his supporters to enter the fray.
  • Revenge: Haftar is partially motivated by Gaddafi's abandonment of him and his soldiers after they were captured during the conflict with Chad.
