Western Africa
West African Union
Official Name: West African Union, West African Republic (Revolutionary Socialist), Songhai Empire (Monarchist)
Ruling Party: Democratic Renewal
Ideology: Military Juntanote
- Space-Filling Empire: The West African Union is an enormous state, the biggest state in Africa by landmass, composed of land today controlled by Mauretania, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger
- The Friend Nobody Likes: Since the invasion and annexation of Burkina Faso in 2000, the WAU has been suspended from the Economic Community of West African States. This not only severely harmed relations with other West African nations, but has effectively made the Union internationally isolated.
- Occupiers Out of Our Country: The WAU is currently embroiled in a civil war between the government and the Tuareg people, a nomadic people native to the Sahara who have fought for their land since the French colonial era. While a peace agreement in 1996 was meant to solve the conflict, a lack of integration and autonomy led to a Third Tuareg Revolt breaking out in 2007. Aided by Algerian and Libyan Jihadists, the Tuaregs now control a large portion of northern West Africa, represented by Azawad and Agadez being demilitarized in-game.
Ibrahim Baré Maïnassara
Role: Head of State
Party: Democratic Renewal
Ideology: Military Juntanote
- Spared by the Adaptation: In OTL, Maïnassara was assassinated during the 1999 Nigerian coup d'etat, likely by members of his own Presidential Guard. In RW, not only is he able to live 11 years longer, but he has no way of dying in the current version of the game.
- The Generalissimo: Maïnassara is the military dictator over the West African Union who took power by overthrowing the legitimate West African government in 1996

Ruling Party: National Liberation Front of Chad
Ideology: Democratic Socialismnote
- Allohistorical Allusion: The Toyota War, where the Chadian military expelled Libyan forces from northern Chad using Toyota pickup trucks, will happen almost identically to OTL, only 24 years later. Libya is even led by Muammar Gaddafi in both timelines.
- Civil War: Since the overthrow of President N'Garta Tombalbaye, the FROLINAT government has been embroiled in a conflict with rebel groups in southern Chad. The conflict is mainly motivated by religious tensions between the predominant Christian and Animist population, with Tombalbaye himself being a southern animist, and the Muslim-dominated government.
- Crapsack World: By the turn of 2010, Chad is suffering from multiple issues ranging from a Libyan occupation in the north to an insurgency in the south. The already unstable situation is made worse by the fact that Chadian political society is incredibly polarized between Muslims and non-muslims.
- Deal with the Devil: The FROLINAT insurgency which overthrew the Tombalbaye government was supported by the Arab Islamic Republic, which in 1978 established a military presence in northern Chad. While the FROLINAT government initially benefitted from Libyan aid, the continued military presence in the north and a growing ideological divide between FROLINAT and Gaddafi has turned the relationship sour, with sporadic fighting occurring in the occupied areas and many expressing worry over Gaddafi's influence over the government.
- Let No Crisis Go to Waste: In the outbreak of the Libyan Civil War, Chad will take advantage of the situation by kicking Libyan presence out of the country and occupying the Aouzou Strip in the Toyota War.

Central African Empire
Official Name: Central African Empire, Central African State (Fascist/Nationalist), Central African Union (National Bolshevik), Central African Republic (Democratic), Central African Socialist Republic (Revolutionary Socialist), Central African People's Republic (Communist)
Ruling Party: House of Bokassa
Ideology: Absolute Monarchynote
- Alternate History: The Central African Empire was OTL dissolved after a French-backed military coup in 1979 toppled Bokassa and restored the Central African Republic. In RWTL, the 1979 coup failed, and as a result the kingdom still exists as of 2010, with Bokassa eventually being succeeded by his son Jean-Serge Bokassa.
- Dropped a Bridge on Him: Emperor Bokassa I, the previous emperor and founder of the Central African Empire, died rather anticlimatically in a plane crash above Sudan 14 years before the start of the game.
- The Caligula: From proclaiming himself Emperor and accusations of partaking in cannibalism, Bokassa was already an eccentric and unstable ruler. But following a failed coup attempt in 1979, he grew increasingly paranoid towards his closest advisors and family members, culminating in a failed suicide attempt in 1994 via drug overdose and the execution of his son and presumed heir for trying to seize power during the Emperor's time of weakness.
- Rags to Royalty: Born as one of twelve children to a village chief in French Equatorial Africa and orphaned at 6, Jean-Bédel Bokassa would climb the ranks of both the French and Central African army until reaching the rank of First Colonel of the Central African Armed Forces. From there, Bokassa would overthrow his cousin and the president of the Central African Republic, eventually crowning himself Emperor of Central Africa.
Bokossa II
Role: Head of State
Party: House of Bokassa
Ideology: Absolute Monarchynote
In-Game Biography: Click to Show
- Historical Hero Upgrade: In OTL following his father's deposal, Bokassa only held a small number of ministerial positions and unsuccessfully ran for president several times. Due to the Central African Empire never being dissolved in Red World, Bokassa succeded his father as a reformist Emperor of Central Africa
- Inadequate Inheritor: The fact that Jean-Serge was overlooked as heir in favor of his younger brother and was described by his father as 'weak' implies that he failed to live up to his father's expectations of an adequate heir to the throne. Whether that judgment was valid has yet to be proven.
- The Good King: Downplayed. Emperor Bokassa II is noted for being a reformist emperor and overall democratizing many aspects of the country. Despite this, the Central African Empire is still an absolute monarchy where the emperor is considered the sole legal leader of the country.
- Unexpected Successor: Jean-Serge was never intended to succeed his father as Emperor and the title was instead meant to be passed on to his younger brother, Jean-Bedel Bokassa Jr. But after Bokassa Jr was executed for attempting to seize power prematurely following the Emperor's failed suicide attempt, the title of heir was passed down to Jean-Serge.

Ruling Party: Workers' Party of Ethiopia - Loyalists
Ideology: Leninismnote
The Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is a Marxist-Leninist regime governed by the infamous Workers' Party. While some reforms under the administration were successful, many suspect the nation is nearing famine.- Chummy Commies: Depending on the focus path taken, Ethiopia will improve ties with, and eventually join the Warsaw Pact, becoming the first non-European nation to be welcomed into the alliance.
- We ARE Struggling Together: The Workers Party is split between the Loyalists and the Internationalists
- The Loyalists are loyal to Desalegn and Soviet-communism. They wish to maintain the status quo of Ethiopia's domestic and economic policies, while seeking membership with the Warsaw Pact.
- The Internationalists are loyal to Seyoum Mesfin, and are committed to spreading the revolution to the rest of Africa. They are distrustful of the Soviets and consider their growing influence pseudo-colonialism.

- Internal Reformist: Zewde and her supporters are discontent with Desalegn's tightening grip on power. This has caused a split in the Workers Party between Desalegn Loyalists and Zewde's Internationalists, who want to reform Ethiopia into a less authoritarian and more inclusive socialist government. Eventually if Zewde comes into power, she will attempt to unify all of Africa under her dream of an African Socialist continent.
