Ashley Nell Tipton

  • All the Other Reindeer: When she was younger, she felt rejected because of her weight and dyslexia, which gave her many selfsteem issues. She feels this again in Episode 5, when she gets picked last and then is told that her teammates were going to pick her to go home if they landed on the bottom.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: She is very aware of her size, which is the roots for her Plus-Size line.
  • Big Fun: She describes herself as Fun, Funk, Fat.
  • Broken Pedestal: She feels this way about Candice. In a prior episode, she and Candice got along wonderfully, which took her by surprise when she didn't pick her first for the next challenge. Later, she is told by Laurie that the other girls were going to blame her if the team landed on the bottom.
  • Chekhov's Skill: She used to play paintball with her brother, which became handy for the 5th challenge.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: The Team Challenge in episode 5 made her realize that she couldn't trust anyone in the show, since she got picked last and found out that the other girls (minus Laurie) intended to throw her under the bus.
  • Hidden Depths: Nobody suspected she was a crack shot at paintball.
  • Nice Girl: She immediately lent Swapnil her spare tools and got along wonderfully with Candice.

Kelly Dempsey

Edmond Newton

  • Ascended Fan: He has been auditioning since the very first season.
  • Determinator: He has been auditioning 13 times before finally making it to the show on his 14th audition.

Candice Cuoco

  • Master of the Mixed Message: In Episode 5, despite working well with Ashley, she picked Amanda instead, because she felt that Amanda needed more support to up her game. This led to Ashley being picked last, thinking that she was being rejected by the others. When Laurie told Ashley about the rumors of throwing her under the bus, Ashley got dissapointed on her, despite Candice not picking her.
  • Perky Goth: Her personal style is all black, and at the same time she is also a loving mom and gets along perfectly with Ashley.
  • Team Mom: She said this was what she wanted to be in the team challenge in episode five. Unfortunately, her teammates thought she came off as domineering and overly involved.
  • Teen Pregnancy: She had her first kid at age 17.

Merline Labissiere

  • Genki Girl: She was dancing and singing around the workroom, to the point she started to feel sad when Joseph told her to hold it.
  • Motor Mouth: During workshop she wouldn't shut up, to the frustration of the others.
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: In Episode 5, she was part of "The Boys" team, so everyone kept referring to their team as "Gentlemen and Merline".
  • The Smurfette Principle: In Episode 5, she was the only woman on her team.
  • Token Minority: is from Haiti.

Saisha Shinde (appearing as Swapnil Shinde)

  • Brilliant, but Lazy: In Week 7 he admits that she's only giving a 60-80% effort thus far, despite almost always being in the top in just about every previous episode. During the Real Women challenge, Tim Gunn blows up at him because of his continued demonstration of this trope, and he goes home on Tim's bad side.
  • Funny Foreigner: She is charming, funny and Indian.
  • Token Minority: She is one of the foreign contestants. Overall, she is the 2nd Indian designer, along with Sandhya from Season 13. After the show, Swapnil transitioned and came out as Saisha.

Laurie Underwood

  • Sassy Black Woman: She has a very urban accent and would often make sassy comments during the interviews.

Lindsey Creel

  • Brutal Honesty/Deadpan Snarker: In the confessional, she said that she refused to lend tools to Swapnil, Dave and Merline because they should have brought their own equipment.
Lindsey: I think they should go home if they don't care enough to bring their own supplies and just expect other people to figure it out. My suitcase weights 80 pounds. I weight 100 pounds and I carried it, you know? Suck it up.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: She completely empathized with Jake leaving the competition to be with his dog on it’s last moments, because she had three dogs at home and she would do the same in his place.
  • Hipster: Both her personal and design style.

Joseph Poli

  • Jerkass: In his audition tape, he said that he liked to feel other people feel small.
  • Straight Man: When he was paired to work with Merline, he kept her from dancing and singing while working.

Jake Wall

  • All Women Love Shoes: Genderflipped. During his home video, his closet was full of shoes and he claims that he buys a new pair everytime he gets angry. Apparently he gets angry a lot.
  • Drama Queen: He kept bickering with Lindsey on regular basis, thinking that she was "delegating him tasks worthy for him".
  • Jerkass: During the Team Challenge he was constantly talking to Lindsey in a condescending tone (just because she suggested a Kimono-esque jacket inspired in Hong Kong and he kept thinking she was confusing the cultures), and even after landing in the Top 3, he started to throw her under the bus.
  • Non-Gameplay Elimination: Withdrew from the competition because back at home his dog (and therefor his only family member) had to be put to sleep. He opted to be there with him instead of remain in the competition.

Blake Patterson

  • Camp Gay: He always talks with a campy tone and constantly says he is adorable.
  • Country Mouse: According to the other designers, he was constantly talking about his rural upbringing, since he comes from Ohio.
  • Innocently Insensitive: When Swaphil was talking to the others about the machines in his thick accent, he said to Swaphil "I don't know how to speak in Indian". Swaphil understandably decided to ignore him and Blake kept saying in the interview that he is adorable.
  • Jerkass: He threw a racist comment at Swapnil like it was nothing and instead of apologizing right away, he kept saying to the confessional cam how adorable he is.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Even he was disgusted by the "Mean Girls" attitude they had towards Ashley and called them out on it.
  • Pet the Dog: He got upset when Ashley got the blame by most of her team and tried to cheer her up.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: His teammates let him do the flower paintings on the collection. Joseph admits that he was the only one who could draw them.

Amanda Perna

  • Competition Freak: In her first audition back in Season 9, she describes herself as this. If she got an A on a test, and her schoolmate got an A+, she would complain about not getting that plus.
  • Jerkass: Constantly insulted other designers in the confessional, and threw a temper tantrum when Laurie wouldn't let her borrow her scissors, when Laurie was using them.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: She almost made it to the cast of Season 9. She returned 5 seasons later.
  • Never My Fault: She was constantly in the Bottom 3. For her final episode, she said that the team brought her down instead.

Gabrielle Arruda

  • We Hardly Knew Ye: She was one of the most quiet and low-key of the contestans, and her elimination happened in the fourth episode.

Hanmiao Yang

  • Fatal Flaw: She was eliminated because she wasn't good with communicating openly with Edmond and was shutting down all his suggestions.
  • Fun Size: She told in the workroom that she couldn't help anyone to try the outfits on her because "she is a midget".
  • Funny Foreigner: She says people call her "Pistaccio" or "Happy Peanut".
  • Token Minority: She is the only Chinese contestant and 2nd overall along with Ping Wu from Season 7.

David Gianpiccolo

  • Happily Married: He has a loving husband and the only relative he has, since his father disowned him when he came out.
  • Token Minority: He is from Belgium and one of the foreign contestants.
