The Girls

    General
The four girls that broke into the school at night.
  • Four Is Death: In the true ending of the game, all four girls die.
  • Nobody Touches the Hair: None of the girls want to have their hair cut for the ritual. Kat will hope to never do it again if you cut hers and all of the club girls will hate you if you cut any of theirs.
  • Sailor Fuku: The girls wear this type of uniform.

    Kat
The protagonist for the prologue
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: She has dark hair and doesn't have a lot of friends. She also has a bit of a reputation.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: After many ritual attempts that ended in disappointment, Kat finally finds a ritual that actually works. It ends up with her death.
  • Break the Badass: Kat loses all of her bravado after being tormented by The Voice in the other world and realizes she’s in actual mortal danger.
  • Can't Get Away with Nuthin': If Kat breaks the rules of the ritual, more specifically if she brings the other girls with her, she will be killed immediately and without explanation.
  • Controllable Helplessness: You can control Kat when she’s trapped in a small room with no exits or interactable objects.
  • Creepy Loner Girl: She enjoys messing with people and is well known for this, so she doesn’t really have friends outside of her mom and Annie.
  • Daddy's Girl: Implied to be this, since the Hooded Figure tells her that her father would be proud of her abandoning the ritual.
  • Decoy Protagonist: She presumably dies at the end of the prologue to give way to the true protagonist of the game: Lacie.
  • Defiant to the End: Under specific circumstances, she can defy The Voice and refuse to scream for help, even if it means being trapped in the other world forever.
  • Detrimental Determination: Despite ample warnings from Annie and multiple failed attempts, Kat decided to continue attempting rituals until one worked. When it did, It killed her and 3 other girls.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Since Kat didn’t think the ritual was going to work, she never made a back up plan on what to do if it actually did, or how to go back to her world.
  • Establishing Character Moment: We are properly introduced to Kat when she interrupts the girls playing ouija, scares the hell out of them, and proceeds to ruin their night by explaining that ouija is stupid.
  • Face Death with Despair: Kat spends her final moments afraid and pleading for her life.
  • Hope Spot: After being stuck in the other world and taunted about the possibility of dying and never seeing her mother again, Kat is shown what seems to be an exit door, but she is killed before being able to see if the door was even real.
  • I Will Find You: Kat is doing the rituals in the vain hope of finding someone. We are not told who just yet.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: When told by the hooded figure that continuing with the ritual would put Saki, Juli and Kaya in danger, Kat decides to give up. For now.
  • Loner-Turned-Friend: Can happen if you decide to talk to the girls and be nice to them.
  • Non-Uniform Uniform: Kat likes to add her own spin to things, so she added some ruffles to her uniform
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Kat never seems to get scared, except when she realizes that she is in actual mortal danger.
  • Screw the Rules, They're Not Real!: Under set circumstances, Juli can convince her that since she doesn’t believe the ritual is real anyways, there is no good reason to follow the “you must play alone" rule. Boy can that end up biting them later.
  • Signature Head Gear: Her pins.
  • Sorry That I'm Dying: In one of the endings, Kat will lament being trapped in the school and never being able to see her mother again.
  • Terrible Artist: Kat can draw a variety of things on the club’s chalkboard and they all suck. She doesn’t care and will proudly show it to the girls though.
  • Wake-Up Call: Receives one in any ending where the ritual is complete or near completion. Unfortunately, on most of these occasions it’s a bit too little too late.

    Ponytail Girl

Saki

One of the girls found on the club room and the meanest of the group.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Both her hair and eyes are brown.
  • Nature Lover: Like Juli and Kaya, she seems distressed when Kat cuts a school plant, and will abandon you and call you a psycopath if you cut all of them.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Due to the mysterious happenings around the school and the disappearance of a fellow student, she plans on getting far from the school once she graduates.

    Pretty Girl

Juli

One of the girls found on the club room and the leader of the group.
  • Closet Geek: She is secretely interested in the occult, but she is too prideful to join the club.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Teases Kat about her bad drawing of a house
Juli:Kindergarten called, they want their drawing skills back.
  • Half the Woman She Used to Be: Unlike the other 2 girls, we only see half of her corpse on the other world.
  • Nature Lover: Like Saki and Kaya, she seems distressed when Kat cuts a school plant, and will abandon you if you cut all of them.
  • Screw the Rules, They're Not Real!: Under set circumstances, she can convince Kat that since she doesn’t believe the ritual is real anyways, there is no good reason to follow the “you must play alone" rule. Boy can that end up biting them later.

    Quiet Girl

Kaya

One of the girls found on the club and the shiest of the group
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: If you use the scissors on her after cutting the hair of one of the club members, she will threaten to make you swallow them.
  • Nature Lover: Like Saki and Juli, she seems distressed when Kat cuts a school plant, and will abandon you if you cut all of them.

Other Characters

    Kat's Friend

Annie

Kat's only friend before performing the ritual.
  • Only Friend: She was Kat’s only friend before the night of the ritual, and if you don’t befriend the girls, she will remain that way.
  • Only Sane Woman: She is the only character that doesn't break into the school at night and warns Kat about performing the mysterious ritual.

    Demonic Figure
A demon that shows up during Kat's dream, and comments on whatever she did to try and open the door.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Despite their creepy demeanor and threatening to kill Kat if they cross paths, they never attempt to harm Kat and instead warn her of the danger of coming to their world.
  • Ambiguously Related: They have a strong physical resemblance to the horned woman that is seen during a dead end in Paper Lily
  • Didn't See That Coming: Will tell this to Kat if she takes the lilies out of the vases instead of putting them in.

    The Voice
Mysterious voice that taunts Kat once she gets to the other world
  • Break Them by Talking: Does this to Kat, mocking her for attempting the ritual, succeeding, having no way to go back and tell the tale, and leaving her mother behind.
  • Did You Actually Believe...?: It mocks Kat for thinking that she could find the answers she needs by doing the ritual.
  • It Amused Me: The only reason The Voice doesn’t kill Kat immediately is because it finds tormenting her fun.
  • Would Hurt a Child: All of the girls are children and it’s implied that it killed all of them.

    The Hooded Figure
Mysterious character that shows up during dead end K-7
  • Ambiguously Related: Kat questions if they're the demonic figure from her dream and they don't give a straight answer.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: They manage to dissuade Kat from continuing the ritual by asking her if she’s willing to put her own life and the lives of the club members at risk for it.
  • Mysterious Protector: Makes sure that the girls stay out of danger if encountered.
  • Point of No Return: Warns the girls before they cross it, telling them that they will die if they don't turn around.
