Characters / Onmyoji 2016 R Shikigami

Go To

These shikigami (except Usagimaru, Juzu, Tenjō-Kudari, Kosode-no-te and Peach Maki and Karashi) can be summoned using the blue talismans, by spending 100 magatama for each black talisman or by using the purple talismans at a rate of 79%, the least rare of all shikigami types summoned by these talismans, or they can be summoned via the grey talismans at a rate of 13%, which is rarer than N. They, like all other shikigami, can also be obtained by assembling fragments given by players in the same guild, gotten from the Hyakkiyakō mini-game, or rewarded after completing certain quests.

Awakening an R requires 8 first-tier and 16 second-tier materials for each of 2 types.

Bold indicates the characters appearing in Kessen! Heian-kyō, and a star (★) denotes a Crossover shikigami, who aren't listed in the Index and don't count towards 100% Completion.

A heavy-drinking talking raccoon.
  • Booze Flamethrower: His special skill. If the enemy have accumulated enough Drunk marks (either from him attacking them, or by them attacking him while he's sleeping) it can cause them to combust for major damage.
  • Drunken Master: Possibly rivals Shuten-dōji in this aspect. It drinks, falls asleep and dreams of sake in battle and uses sake to fight.
  • Dub Name Change: Gets shortened to just "Tanuki" in the English release.
  • Grievous Bottley Harm: His standard attack lets him clobber someone in the head with his alcohol jug, which may or may not taunt them into attacking him alone.
  • I Shall Taunt You: This is a side effect of his penchant for Grievous Bottley Harm, as mentioned above.

Former shikigami of Seimei and younger sister of Oguna. She is the more bratty and childish one of the siblings.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: To Oguna.
  • Bird People: One of the few who can fly.
  • Bishōnen Line: All her Bird People traits (wings and bird feet) are gone when her skin is applied.
  • Bodyguard Crush: Heavily implied, as she seems a little too attached to her Master Seimei to the point where she was almost convinced by Yuki-Onna to join up with her and is even willing to betray her own beloved brother on the simple condition that she will meet the real Master Seimei, who is actually Kuro Seimei. She's not entirely wrong, however, as in a way, he's "also" Seimei.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Heavily implied in one of her biographies, with her insisting that Seimei will never abandon her because of that certain expressionless girl who is obviously Kagura.
  • Cast from Hit Points: How she heals her teammates. Once her HP reaches below a certain point (when she's about to die), it will go up too, but not much.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Foolish to Oguna's Responsible. Hell, she nearly turns evil at one point.
  • Missing Child: She gets lost 8 times in one month, nearly gets misled by the very evil Yuki-onna and all-in-all gives her brother very good reasons to worry about her.
  • Spoiled Brat: The part where she throws a tantrum at Seimei for not remembering her because of his amnesia and then gives her brother the same treatment despite not doing anything at all definitely makes her this.

An emaciated, perpetually hungry Big Eater.
  • Artistic License – Religion: In Buddhist mythos, the Gaki, or Preta in Sanskrit (thus also Heireita in Japanese), serves the Southern Heavenly King Virūḍhaka (Zōjōten in Japanese). This Gaki serves no one and the Four Heavenly Kings are not a thing in this game.
  • Balloon Belly: After performing his special skill, the enemy he attacks may or may not be swallowed whole, turning him into this.
  • Big Eater: Taken to absolutely tragic levels. Not only does he constantly ask for food, his quest description states he can swallow ten rice balls in one sitting.
  • Cain and Abel: He is Cain to his older sister's Abel. In his autobiography, he reveals that he offed his own sister when she didn't share her potatoes with him.
  • Creepy Child: Just his looks, let alone his personality and skills, are enough to warrant him this title.
  • Edible Ammunition: He attacks by throwing dumplings.
  • Eyes Always Shut: When Awakened.
  • I Am a Humanitarian: His special skill makes him a yōkai version of this. It allows him to eat one of the opposite team's shikigami, dealing damage; said shikigami may or may not end up trapped inside his stomach until their next turn has passed. This skill cannot be executed on an onmyōji.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Killing his sister in a fit of rage meant that there was no one to feed him anymore, and he acknowledged his coming death as well deserved.
  • Race-Name Basis: Gaki is technically the type of spirit he is, he isn't the only one. Semei encounters other Gaki, such as the victims of the Goddess of Gluttony, within the story.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning
  • Unblockable Attack: His special skill ignores Seimei's Deflector Shield.

A big and intimidating typical Samurai.
  • Animated Armor: Seems to be one, especially in his skin where it can be clearly seen that a large part of his chest has been broken off.
  • Antiquated Linguistics, de gozaru.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Splashes dirt on enemies or using earth to strengthen himself.
  • Draw Aggro: His special skill allows him to taunt all foes into hitting him, all while strengthening himself to take all the attack. Does not work when the opposite team is under Seimei's Deflector Shield.
  • Dub Name Change: Given the oddly generic name "Samurai X" in the English version.
  • Dump Stat: Oddly, ATK, the only shikigami in the game (at least until Jinmenju was released) for which ATK is 100% worthless. His basic attack uniquely scales with his DEF instead of ATK, and with none of his other abilities scaling with it either, it's literally worthless to him. Since the soul in slot 1 is always reserved for flat ATK as its primary stat, you might not want to bother upgrading that one until you have nothing else left to do.
  • I Shall Taunt You: Basically what Unbreakable Armor does. Anyone on the opposing team who fell for it, be they shikigami or onmyoji, will automatically hit Heiyō with a basic attack on their turn, while he himself gains a defensive buff against them for the duration of the effect. The buff scales inversely with his remaining health, and thus is the strongest when he's at 20% HP or less.
    • His basic Sword Strike attack also has a chance of taunting a single target on hit, though this is less reliable.
  • Rōnin: What he basically is now: a samurai whose master has died.
  • Samurai: Fits the archetype to a T, speaking in typical samurai language and, as revealed in his autobiography, loyal to a fault (refusing to leave his master's grave until a ghost tells him to let go of his death).
  • Stone Wall: Quite fittingly, he has high HP and speed (13330 and 116 respectively, both ranked S) and average everything else (all ranked B). While Unbreakable Armor is active he also gains a 40% reduction to incoming damage at the cost of speed, letting him tank the basic attacks flung at him with great aplomb.

Formerly a monk's wooden fish, he gained awareness after falling in love with the beautiful sounds made by Kochō-no-sei, who came to befriend his master. After the monk died of old age and turned into a statue, Hitotsume gained physical form as a one-eyed oni who travels the world with his master slung on his back.
  • Attack Reflector: Basically his Diamond Sutra in a nutshell.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: Technically a body anyway. That giant stone that he uses to bash his enemies with? That's his former master who turned into stone after dying of natural causes.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Hitotsume weaponizes this and turns it into an art form. At levels 3 and 5, his Diamond Sutra passive applies a damage-reflecting shield onto himself and his allies when taking a hit. Said shield then does at most 20% of an enemy's attack power back onto themselves which, when taking the additional Sutra shields on his allies into consideration, translates into a whopping 120% damage return, provided everybody is still alive. This makes Shikigami who spam their powerful Herd-Hitting Attack melt incredibly fast from their own damage, especially the likes of Ōtengu and Ubume.
    • This becomes even more effective when paired with the Soul Edge mitama, as it allows Hitotsume to randomly tank hits for his allies, giving him more chances to proc the Sutra even if the enemy actively avoids hitting him.
  • Morton's Fork: Unprepared players are faced with this when they encounter a party with Hitotsume. Do they A) Waste several turns whittling only Hitotsume down with only basic attacks and try to heal up in between while ignoring the other enemies who will be able to strike back unabated? Or B) Hit the whole enemy lineup with party-wide damage, hopefully killing/weakening some, possibly at the cost of the shikigami who pulled the attack? Either way he's bad news, and should not be treated lightly.
  • Warrior Monk: His entire attire is based upon that of a Buddhist apprentice, complete with prayer beads and markings atop his bald head.

A girl who seems weak at first glance, but is capable of singlehandedly wiping out a group of bigger demons. She idolizes Hakurō (and Yōtō-hime to a lesser extent) and wishes to be her apprentice.
  • Badass Adorable: She may look like a harmless kid, but can knock out several other bigger monsters by herself.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: She was once rescued by Hakurō; upon seeing how badass Hakurō was in battle, she basically fell in love with her, wanting to be as strong as she is.
  • Combat Medic: Unlike most healers, her healing mostly scales off her attack, not her HP, making it to your advantage to pile as much on her as possible.
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: Especially when she starts gushing about her idols.
  • Dub Name Change: Her name is shortened to "Kusa" in the English version.
  • Fangirl: Of Hakurō, to a headache-inducing extent.
  • Flower Motif: Dandelion.
  • Healing Hands: Her healing skill restores HP for the entire team and also grants everyone a buff that automatically heals them for each of their upcoming 3 turns.
  • Life Drain: Her basic skill is taking an enemy's HP for herself.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Unlike most healer shikigami, Hotarugusa's healing power scales with her ATK stat, not HP.
  • The Medic
  • Stone Wall: A high-leveled, fully-kitted Hotarugusa will not die provided her ATK and HP are high enough, due to them affecting her bread and butter skills. Fitted with the Scarlet mitama, Hotarugusa will nullify much of the damage done to her by repeatedly countering and stealing HP from her attackers, making it hard to kill her off for real without some serious power. A solo fight between two such Hotarugusa can last ages.

A frog who is acquainted with Ame-onna and has a crush on her, gero.
  • All Love Is Unrequited: Is obviously in love with Ame-onna, but she seems to be too preoccupied with her deceased husband to return the affection.
  • Desperation Attack: When he is knocked out, he will automatically fire his special attack at a random enemy before he dies.
  • The Gambler: He states that he's a frequent gambler in his Suspiciously Specific Denial below.
  • Last Ditch Move: Upon being defeated, Jikigaeru will use Tile Fling to deal damage to a random enemy before dying.
  • Love Interest: Ame-onna.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: He may be tiny, but he's an attacker-type with an impressive attack stat of 2975 when Awakened and at lvl 40.
  • Ship Tease: He obviously has feelings for Ame-onna. Comes with Lampshade Hanging from Kohaku.
  • Sore Loser: Jikigaeru is an extremely sore loser. Pretty much the entirety of his Secret zone is him trying to scam Seimei into a mahjong game, losing miserably, throwing a tantrum, and then challenging the player to a rematch where he rigged the game in his favor. It took another resounding defeat and Seimei extending an olive branch to him that he finally called it quits.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: When confronted about the reason he knows so much about Ame-onna's past, he says it's because… he always wins at gambling when he catches sight of her on his way to the gambling parlor, so he becomes very concerned when all of a sudden he doesn't see her.
Kohaku: Oh, I see. So that means you have feelings for…
    Jikigaeru: Say no more, gero!
  • Talking Animal
  • Tsundere: Type A; he acts like a jerkish frog at first, but he turns out to genuinely care about Ame-onna's well-being and obviously crushes on her, judging by the convoluted Suspiciously Specific Denial he dishes out about his feelings toward her.
  • Verbal Tic: gero.

A rude, club-wielding Tomboy with a hidden soft side.
  • Boring, but Practical: She has easily the dullest kit of any shiki above N rank in the entire game- her basic attack has no additional effects (which is admittedly very common), her special attack is just a single above-average hit to all enemies with no additional effects, and the passive she unlocks when evolved gives her a 40% chance of marking any enemy that damages her, causing her to do slightly (15%) more damage to them, with no stacking. Subverted in that she's not very practical either- even her base stats are terrible (despite being an entirely DPS-based shiki she only has a B ranked ATK), making her frankly one of the worst non-N shikis in the game (some N shikis are arguably better) and better described as "Boring And Impractical".
  • Carry a Big Stick: Her weapon is a club.
  • Dub Name Change: Called 'Satori' in the English version.
  • Fiery Redhead: Has pink hair by default, red when Awakened and a definitely fitting personality.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Her introduction states she has a hidden soft side.
  • Tomboy: She is a little girl, but is very brash and employs a masculine speech pattern.

En'enra's younger brother, a powerful Camp Gay obsessed with beauty and that's in love with Seimei.
  • All Love Is Unrequited: He loves Seimei and his sister is a Shipper on Deck, but given how Seimei never reciprocates any of the affection thrown his way…
  • Artistic License – History: He has a kiseru pipe, which wasn't invented yet.
  • Camp Gay: Is openly gay and so effeminate it sometimes go over the top.
  • The Dandy: It seems his beauty is the only thing on his mind. First he kidnaps Kagura in order to see for himself whether her hair is more beautiful than his. Then, after a brawl with Seimei, the first thing he complains about is his torn clothes and dirtied skin.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Is referred to as this by a few characters, often followed by wishing he could become more masculine.
  • Forced Sleep: One of his abilities is a simple single-target sleep spell, which does no damage but has a base 100% hit rate. You won't use it often (his True Face is what you select him for) but it can come in handy in a pinch.
  • Nightmare Face: Kamikui's special is him showing the enemy his true form. Apparently his real face is so terrifying that it does physical damage to those who behold it, as well as causing them to recoil in horror and allow him and his team to freely move and attack first.
  • Shared Family Quirks: Both he and his sister are smokers.
  • Sissy Villain: Plays this role in episode 5 before making peace with the heroes.
  • Smoking Is Cool: His kiseru may not be historically accurate, but it sure ups his coolness.

A shy and insecure underwater yōkai with a crush on his friend Koi-no-sei.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Pulls this moment right after Koi-no-sei is freed from Yōko's clutches and is suffocating from being out of water for too long: he splashes her with water in order to wake her up.
  • Bishōnen Line: He literally becomes a Bishōnen when his post-Awakening skin is applied.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Cannot admit his crush on Koi-no-sei until after he pulls a Big Damn Heroes move to save her.
  • The Cassandra: He is right to suspect Yōko of kidnapping little girls, but everyone shuts him down thanks to Yōko's nice mannerisms until he is proven right when Yōko is caught holding Koi-no-sei captive.
  • Making a Splash: That floating blob of water in his hand should be enough an indicator.
  • Puppy Love: With Koi-no-sei. After finally working up the courage to confess to her, she declares that they would be best friends forever, and Kappa is thrilled.

An arrogant, boastful Tengu warrior who often claims to be a fighter for justice.
  • Feathered Fiend: Aside from using his naginata, he also launches feathers as a multi-target attack.
  • Miles Gloriosus: He's a chronic liar who always boasts about heroic feats he hasn't actually committed. A subversion of the usual form of this trope, however, in that he's still a brave warrior who's always trying to live up to his lies. He just hasn't single-handedly defeated Orochi like he claims he has...

A butterfly yōkai who lives in Dream Land and helps people who are lost in the dream world.
  • Badass Adorable: Need we say more?
  • Blindfolded Vision: Wears a blindfold or veil for some reason when Awakened.
  • Combat Stilettos: Wears high geta sandals, and considering her being a Dance Battler, they actually seem pretty dangerous.
  • Dance Battler: Proclaims to have descended from a clan of talented dancers and shows off dance-like moves in battle.
  • Dispel Magic: Her specialty is removing status effects with her healing spell. However, she can't cure Stun, Freeze and (in many cases) Silence. The skill's only weakness is Yamakaze's status effects which causes damage upon removal, meaning she may end up practically attacking the teammate she's casting the spell on rather than helping them.
  • Dream People: She lives in dreams.
  • Dub Name Change: Gets renamed to just "Chocho" in the English version of the game.
  • Facial Markings: Has a butterfly-shaped marking on her cheek in her skin.
  • Fragile Speedster: Her highest stat is her speed (115 post-Awakening, ranked S), and her passive skill allows her to become even faster when anyone on her team loses a certain amount of HP. The rest of her stats are not poor, but not exceptional either.
  • Healing Hands: Can cast a healing spell which can also remove some Status Effects. This skill also grants a buff which automatically heals the recipient for their upcoming 3 turns.
  • Magic Music: Her music heals (mechanic-wise) and helps lost people find their way around the dream world (story-wise). Once she goes into battle, she becomes a…
  • Musical Assassin: Her basic attack has her playing her tambourine, causing pretty pink missiles to fire from it.
  • The Medic: What with her healing skill's not only restoring HP but also removing many status effects and granting the healed combatant a buff which automatically heals them for two more turns, she is an excellent choice for a healer.
  • Mystical White Hair: Her skin.
  • Pretty Butterflies: Comes with being a butterfly yōkai.
  • Proper Tights with a Skirt: She changes to these once she evolves- her skirt becomes smaller, but she covers her legs in exchange.

  • Friend to Bugs: Of the creepy variety. He raises a whole bunch of them and causes real-life deaths feeding people to them in their sleep.
  • Pest Controller: He also uses his insects as weapons, at one point throwing some of them on the heroes to watch them be slowly devoured.
  • Strange-Syntax Speaker: His speech is rendered as kanji and katakana text in the Japanese version.
  • Subverted Suspicion Aesop: During the Heian Food Fest, he complains about people judging him for his looks, for which they apologize, except he really was planning to abduct people to feed to his bugs.

A cute underwater yōkai who is Kappa's best friend and object of affection, and has once fallen victim to Yōko.
  • Barrier Warrior: Can create damage-absorbing bubble shields for all members on the team. Said shield becomes heart-shaped when it is on Kappa. Erm, Ship Tease much?
  • The Bus Came Back: After disappearing from the narrative once episode 7 is over, she and Kappa return for a cameo appearance in chapter 17, exactly 10 episodes later.
  • Damsel in Distress: Is helplessly held captive by Yōko until the heroes and her friend come rescue her.
  • Genki Girl: A very cheerful and energetic girl.
  • Jack of All Trades: When fully upgraded, Koi is possibly the single most-versatile shikigami in the game, which is pretty good for a mere R. Her Bubble Shield is a very strong defence which additionally takes 50% damage from Indirect Damage effects and also increases the Effect HIT of any shikigami protected by it by 10%; her Bubble Cage is a very high-reliability CC which prevents the target from doing anything except attacking it until they break it, reduces their Critical chance to make it harder for them to do so, and also does damage over time to them every turn they can't break out; even her basic attack is capable of dispelling a buff from her target!
  • Love Interest: Of Kappa. In an innocent child's way, of course.
  • Mobile Fishbowl: She cannot stay on land for long, or she will suffocate to death. When she fainted after being held hostage by Yōko, Kappa's dumping a huge blob of water on her woke her up again.
  • No-Sell: An interesting twist in that what she can No-Sell is the enemy's attempt to No-Sell- one of the things that makes her Bubble Cage such a powerful CC effect is that it can target and lock down enemies right through Seimei's Spell: Protect, which normally renders all allies inside it untargetable.
    • Her Bubble Shield, while not as strong as the likes of Ichimokuren's is also a very potent defence, especially with the upgrade which causes any allies protected by it to take 50% reduced indirect damage.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: Well, technically she's a fish fairy, not a mermaid.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: While Bubble Cage is an extremely powerful lockdown effect against most targets, it still counts as a damageable target with its own HP, like Seimei's Spell: Protect. While this doesn't matter in most cases, also like Seimei's Spell: Protect this means it's a dead easy target for Onikiri to trigger his passive on, allowing his massive 125% ATK defence-ignoring AoE slash to devastate your team for free the first time he even tries to break out (since the strength of the Cage is based on Koi's ATK, Koi would have to have monumentally more ATK than Onikiri to prevent him from reaching the pitifully easy 90%/70% HP thresholds necessary for him to trigger his passive).

  • Detachment Combat: He can throw his head to deal an impressive amount of damage. It is this skill that makes him the That One Boss of chapter 13.
  • In the Hood: Sports a black one with red trimmings in his Awakened form.
  • Losing Your Head: As his name suggests, he doesn't have a neck and his head floats over the rest of his body, and he can accomplish feats such as swinging a string between them or throwing his head, dealing massive damage with it.
  • Off with His Head!: A beheaded human who turned into a neckless demon.
  • Old Soldier: Was in fact a valiant soldier before being executed for failing a mission.
  • Playing with Fire: His basic attack in which he hits an opponent with the flames between his head and the rest of his body.
  • Samurai: Was one before his death.
  • Vocal Dissonance: He looks like a teenage boy, but sounds like someone in his twenties. Averted in the Chinese and English voice track of Kessen! where he is voiced by women.
  • Was Once a Man

The youngest of the kyonshī family who reunites with her abducted brothers with the help of the heroes.
  • Anime Chinese Girl: Sweet and adorable with a slight Chinese accent.
  • Attractive Zombie: Zombie meets Cute Monster Girl.
  • Chinese Vampire: Different from most examples as she still has intelligence and is one of the good guys.
  • Cute Monster Girl
  • Cuteness Proximity: She would walk up to and start petting (mofu mofu!) any adorable animals nearby. Not even Kyūmeineko is safe.
  • Glass Cannon: And how! She has high attack and critical hit rate (3042 and 10% respectively, both ranked S) and average HP and defense (11098 and 399 respectively, both ranked B).
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Goes blonde when Awakened.
  • Non-Specifically Foreign: Kyonshī are from Chinese folklore, but it's not stated whether she and her siblings have actually immigrated from China (she is actually from the Chūgoku region of Japan, which is written with the same kanji and read the same as China).
  • Paper Talisman: Has one attached to her bangs. Doesn't seem to affect her sight though.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Has a pink ponytail by default.
  • Summon Magic: Can summon a kyonshī dog to aid in battle.

The second oldest in the kyonshī siblings. He and his older brother are kidnapped by Ōtengu, prompting their sister and the onmyōji to go on a quest to save them.
  • Attractive Zombie: A pretty adorable zombie boy.
  • Chinese Vampire: Unlike most other examples, he and his siblings are intelligent, capable of speech and sympathetic characters.
  • Damage Over Time: His special skill. He unleashes a cloud of poisonous breath at the opposite team, dealing poison damage.
  • Distressed Dude: He and his brother are hypnotized, kidnapped and made slaves until their sister and the heroes come to their rescue.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: By default.
  • Non-Specifically Foreign: Based on a creature from Chinese folklore, but isn't stated to actually be Chinese (the Map section of the in-game illustrated guide reveals he and his family come from the Chūgoku region of Japan. Chūgoku also happens to be read and written the same as China).
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning
  • Sizeshifter: When Awakened, he gains a passive skill which turns every 5% of enemy damage dealt to him into attack power for himself as well as makes him grow in size with every hit he takes. He shrinks back to his original size when knocked out.

An amnesiac Cat Girl who tries way too hard to defeat Seimei despite being his former shikigami, nyan.
  • Absurdly Sharp Claws: Comes with being a cat demon.
  • Butt-Monkey: Her inability to defeat Seimei is at times taken to ridiculous levels, like in episode 12 when she is beaten consecutively twice.
  • Meido: Gets a skin like this in the MOBA game.
  • Running Gag: Her getting repeatedly defeated by Seimei is Played for Laughs.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: To Seimei after her defeat in the first chapter and shows no signs of backing down even though he wipes the floor with her every single time they meet.
  • Shoo Out the Clowns: She just disappears from the story when it starts getting really serious.
  • Strange-Syntax Speaker: It goes beyond just Verbal Tic, danyan. She even uses nyan as a first-person pronyan and sometimes even replaces words and grammatical structures with nyan.
  • And by the way, Verbal Tic, nyan!
  • Verbal Weakness: When she is hypnotized by Ōtengu in ep. 15, mentioning Seimei's name snaps her out of it.

An insect demon displeased with her own ugly appearance. She falls in love with Ichimokuren whom she constantly sees in her dreams and she is the first to beg the onmyōji for help when he is dying.
  • Hollywood Homely: She bemoans her ugliness, but her character design says otherwise.
  • Love Interest: Ichimokuren. She herself is the love interest of Korōka.
  • Pet the Dog: While she resents Kaoru for her closeness to Yamakaze, when Kuro Mujou and Shiro Mujou come to her asking if she's seen a human reborn as a spirit (and offer her a potential lead on Ichimokuren if she has) she denies having seen anyone like that, then sends Yamakaze a warning to have Kaoru lie low for a bit.
  • Stone Wall: Especially high in HP and speed (both ranked S), average-low to average everything else (C to B).
  • Winged Humanoid

An Action Duo consisting of the Japanese Underworld's rising pop idol and Hell's number one torture master.

For character tropes on Peach Maki and Karashi, see Hozuki's Coolheadedness

  • Fish out of Temporal Water: Terribly evident in side story #8. Though it isn't stated they and their companions have time-traveled, Maki has a hard time explaining to Heian folks what an idol is.
  • Healing Hands: Their third skill, which restores the whole team's HP for a share of their own health.
  • Temporary Online Content: Of a different flavor than Hōzuki and Okō who could be summoned at any time by gathering enough pact shards. Peach Maki & Karashi could only be obtained by exchanging for them in the shrine while the event is running. The flip side to this is that there is no upper cap to how many time they can be traded for during that window, the only limiting factor being the number of tokens one currently has.

A sexy, three-tailed Kitsune.
  • Boring, but Practical: While we challenge any straight male (or lesbian female) to call Mio "boring", she is actually the only R-grade shiki that is a viable DPS option at high levels, despite being a Starter Mon. While quite a few Rs can be used, these are mostly ones with unique functionalities that don't exist on SR or SSR shikis (such as Hitotsume or Ushi no Toki) and when it comes to raw damage the higher tier shikis are simply better, but a fully skill-maxed Mio can actually inflict outrageous single-target damage with Woman Scorned and its applied damage over time effect, as well as being quite fast and capable of healing herself.
  • Dub Name Change: Given the name "Mio" in the English version.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: Her name (Sanbi-no-Kitsune that is, not Mio) means "Three-tailed Fox".
  • Femme Fatalons: Has extremely long, red-painted nails.
  • Glass Cannon: Extremely damaging and very fast, but quite squishy. Partly mitigated by her Life Drain.
  • Life Drain: Her passive causes her to heal for a percentage of the damage she does to an enemy.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Large fox ears and three foxlike tails are the only indication of her true nature in the base form, although the way she stands on the tips of her toes is a bit suspicious. In her evolved form her feet are blatantly vulpine as well.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Absolutely everything about her exudes sex appeal.
  • Supermodel Strut: Foxy Vixen Mio struts around on the very tips of foxlike feet with one hand on her hips, which she eye-catchingly swings from side to side with every step. It's particularly noticeable in the Demon Parade and the chapter 18 explorable area.
  • Starter Mon: When new players use the Summoning feature for the first time, she along with Yuki-onna are guaranteed summons.
  • Woman Scorned: It's the name of her special attack, where she leaps at an enemy and slashes them three times. The skill itself describes how her face turns cold before attacking.

A mermaid who wants to see the human world above the sea.
  • Cherry Blossoms: Her first skin, which is a limited offer during Spring Festival.
  • Making a Splash: Flings single water missiles as basic attacks.
  • Non-Mammal Mammaries: Mermaid boobs, 'nuff said.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: She's by all means a Western mermaid, not a Japanese ningyo. Hell, her backstory is a rip-off of The Little Mermaid!
  • Synchronization: This skill is what makes her a very popular choice. The "life link" she creates connects all team members together, allowing damage dealt to one member to be distributed evenly among the team, greatly lessening the damage. However, its weakness is Mōba's special attack and Shoyō's curse, the damage from both of which ignores the life-linking and will still be fully taken by the victim. Arakawa-no-aruji can snap the links, while Yukidōji's freezing effect can cause other members linked to the attacked enemy to freeze as well as the victim.
  • Underboobs: Her second skin. Seriously.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: While there are a number of skills uniquely optimised for negating Life Link, it has a rather more glaring weakness: all it does it cause every hit against a linked shiki to spread the damage evenly across the entire team. If a skill is already hitting the entire team at once for AoE damage, the only thing her link will accomplish is ensure that the damage is rearranged nice and even (and admittedly also reduce it by 5% once her skill is maxed). If your linked team gets hit by a maxed-out Ootengu's Blade Storm, Life Link will be about as helpful as rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

A conniving Con Man rat who manages to scam both the Kamaitachi brothers' and the heroes' money.
  • Con Man: When first (rightfully) accused of scamming the Kamaitachi brothers, he launches into a lengthy sob story about how he has no choice but to beg for money to repair the monastery of a poor monk. The story turns out to be a lie, and poor kind-hearted Hiromasa finds out the hard way that the scammer succeeds again.
  • Eyes Always Closed
  • Fake Charity: He pretends to raise funds to repair a run-down monastery. The trick is so successful even Hiromasa falls for it.

A highly cowardly rabbit demon.
  • Charged Attack: He can only cast his status-effect-removal if he's collected enough carrots, which can only be done if he gets hit.
  • Dispel Magic: His specialty. Note that he can cure Stun.
  • Killer Rabbit: Literally. He's a timid rabbit alright, but he still gets the job done.
  • Lovable Coward: He's basically made of this trope. He actually says stuff like, "Is this a battlefield? So scary!" and "I wanna go home!" in battle.
  • Support Party Member: Being a specialized status effect remover, his role in a team boils down to this.
  • Temporary Online Content: Can only be bought via the Shingan shrine via limited offers.

A very unstable voodoo specialist and the resident Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant.
  • Ax-Crazy: All three of her in-game bios are narrated in third person from some unfortunate soul's perspective just to show how insane she is.
  • Body Horror: Unlike the usual practitioner of the ushi-no-koku-mairi ceremony, those candles atop her head actually grows from her forehead. Are you creeped out yet? Thankfully averted in her skin.
  • Creepy Child: Her profile states she's a little girl, but seeing her doing all the stuff she's doing…
  • Dub Name Change: Called "Ushi no Toki" in the English version.
  • Laughing Mad: "Nails! Effigies! Curses! GYAHAHAHAHAHA!" She literally doesn't have a normal voice and is always insanely cackling and growling.
  • Red Is Violent: Wears a red kimono when Awakened, and seeing what kind of person she is, it may very well be this trope.
  • This Looks Like a Job for Aquaman: Ushi's straw doll skill is generally not too useful in PvP, or most normal forms of PvE, where raw DPS is enough to get you by. However, when fighting targets with massive HP reserves like World Bosses or Event Bosses, it's a complete Game-Breaker, particularly when combined with Bukkuman/Shoyo who can cast his curse on both the boss and the doll at once. In fact, trying to fight a competitive event boss without both Ushi and Bukkuman is a complete and utter waste of time.

  • Cute, but Cacophonic: Players who use her as their primary puller will soon learn how quickly her triggering lines get old.
  • Forced Transformation: Her special attack has a chance of transforming the opponent into a paper cutout, costing them a turn.
  • Fragile Speedster: Boy isn't she! Her speed is the highest out of her stats (115 post-Awakening, ranked S) while everything else ranges from average to average-high (B to A).
  • Horse of a Different Color: Yamagaeru.
  • Killer Rabbit: Quite literally at that. Looks strangely adorable, but can still kick ass.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Despite being a rabbit demon, she looks nothing more than a human girl with rabbit ears.
  • Rascally Rabbit: A rabbit who causes mischief.
  • Super-Empowering: Her second skill increases the whole team's attack force and bumps their turns up, which makes her a popular choice despite being R.
