    George Sunday/Monday (Thermoman)
Played by: Ardal O'Hanlon (Series 1-5), James Dreyfus (Series 6)

Associated Tropes:

  • Bizarre Alien Biology: As well as his superpowers, George's alien physiology causes such issues as an allergic reaction to biological washing detergent to a minor heart defect that causes both his hearts to stop for several minutes without actually being fatal.
  • Fish out of Water: Most of George's problems come from his ignorance of the finer details of Earth culture, although as the series went on this became less plausible.
  • Literal-Minded: On many occasions, George's social problems are because he takes everything too literally.
  • Loves My Alter Ego: Generally, Thermoman is universally adored whilst most people who meet George dismiss him as an idiot. In particular, both Ella and Mrs. Raven have the hots for Thermoman but don't care for George at all.
  • Magical Boyfriend: George has superpowers.
  • The Nth Doctor: At the beginning of the sixth season, George literally loses his body while playing poker and has to get a new one.

    Janet Sunday née Dawkins

Associated Tropes:

  • Only Sane Man: Basically the only person in the cast with a regular human perspective on events; George and Arnie are aliens, her children are superhuman hybrids, her parents and colleagues are extremely self-absorbed, and Tyler's just insane.

    Tyler

Associated Tropes:

  • Closest Thing We Got: Despite Tyler being clinically (if harmlessly) insane, George has to rely on him to assist in his shop as Tyler's knowledge of his identity as Thermoman means that he won't ask any awkward questions about why George has to leave on rescues.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: In the course of the series, he has made such claims as having seen Elvis in a supermarket a week ago, having Bilbo and a group of hobbits around for a fish supper, and being on writing terms with the court of Camelot.
  • The Cuckoolander Was Right: Tyler might be insane, but he's the only person to realise that George is Thermoman.
  • Hidden Depths: Aside from Tyler's surprisingly genuine friendship with the Ultronian Leonardo da Vinci, on a few occasions he has been able to calm George and Janet down during periods of particular emotional distress. He not only encourages George to fight for Janet when Piers apparently gained superpowers and seduced her, but later assured a pregnant Janet that George must have a good reason for wanting to marry her, Janet observing that the aforementioned speech may be "the single wisest thing [Tyler] ever said".

    Arnie Kawolski

Associated Tropes:

  • Brought Down to Normal: Before the series began, Arnie had his powers stripped from him, leaving him just a normal human being in terms of his physical capabilities.
  • Closer to Earth: Arnie has spent longer living on Earth than George, so he has a better grasp of things that continually leave George confused.
  • Something Person: Was formerly known as Polarman.
  • Sticky Fingers: While Arnie stole various items when his powers were temporarily restored, he appeared to do it more out of a compulsive habit and an interest in shiny things rather than out of deliberate malice, particularly since he stole such distinctive items as the English Crown Jewels that he could never have sold on for the financial benefits.

    Piers Crispin

Associated Tropes:

  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Piers, who constantly brags about his reputation and career when in reality he is a very poor doctor who once stated to Janet that he's only cured around half a dozen people.
  • Must Not Die a Virgin: In "A Day to Remember", faced with an imminent asteroid colliding with Earth, Piers asks if Janet would sleep with him.
  • Narcissist: Constantly talks about his own brilliance.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Towards Janet.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Is just a local doctor and minor TV personality who's constantly trying to give himself a boost in celebrity status.

    Mrs. Raven

Associated Tropes:

  • Even Evil Has Standards: Appears to have a soft spot for Janet; apart from joining everyone in considering George an idiot, Mrs Raven has never done anything particularly horrible to Janet despite her various other schemes, and seemed genuinely touched when Janet asked her to be a bridesmaid.
  • Hates Everyone Equally: Lampshaded in 2x04.
    Mrs. Raven: I hate Americans.
George: You hate everyone, Mrs. Raven. You're very fair that way.

    Ella Dawkins

Associated Tropes:

    Stanley Dawkins

Associated Tropes:

    Apollo "Ollie" Sunday

Associated Tropes:

  • Goo-Goo-Godlike: Has all of his father's powers and is born capable of talking and engaging in intellectual conversations; Janet once read him A Tale of Two Cities and he commented on Dickens' use of imagery.
  • Rapid Aging: In one episode, he suffers an illness that rapidly ages him into the body of a young adult.

    Cassandra "Cassie" Sunday

Associated Tropes:

  • Goo-Goo-Godlike: Like her brother, she was born fully intelligent, although in her case her only power is the ability to see the future, which had problems when she assumed she was seeing everyone dead in a few hours when they were actually just asleep.
