Osk Faction

    Lethe

Lethe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lethe.png

The leader in charge of Osk Faction in the current conflict. Lethe is a well-dressed elegant individual, yet is fairly down-to-earth in terms of how she commands. She both has the Osk Faction's intolerance of failure, but also recognizes the tactics necessary to win, such as allying with unlikely friends, retreating when the tides turn, and negotiating rather than fighting.

She survives the events of ACES.

In QUEENS, she is the second Magical Girl to die, impaling herself with her own spear while under Puk Puck's control, in order to protect Puck from her attack.

Her ability is to confound her opponents' sense of distance. She can change the physical distance between objects and people without altering the appearance of what she's using her magic on. So other people will perceive things as being its original distance and become confused when it turns out things were actually closer or farther away.

  • Blood Knight: She enjoys a good fight and she deeply admires strong magical girls.
  • Flash Step: Zigzagged. At first, it seems like she can teleport. What's actually happening is that she's shortening the distance between herself and her destination. For her, she only had to walk a few steps but since her magic doesn't change the appearance of the distance she altered, to everyone else it seems like she teleported. On the other hand, she isn't moving quickly in the traditional way that a flash step implies, but at the same time she still is moving quickly because she has less distance to travel.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: She keeps Puk Puck busy in order to buy time for her subordinates and allies to infiltrate the enemy's hideout.
  • High-Class Gloves: In addition to an ornate gown, her outfit includes black opera gloves, adding to her regal appearance.
  • It's Personal: Her fight against Puk Puck isn't just to end the immediate threat she presents: Lethe was brainwashed by Puck in the past, who made her do undignified things for which she felt deeply humiliated.
  • Kicking Ass in All Her Finery: Her magical girl outfit includes a long, frilly dress, and she’s a strong and composed fighter.
  • Lady of War: Even in the midst of battle, Lethe retains her elegance and dignity being composed, poised and having confidence in her fighting ability.
  • Multi-Melee Master: In her fight against the Puk Faction's leader, she switches between two swords and a spear, using them with outstanding proficiency.
  • Nerves of Steel: She never loses her cool, not even in the most dire of situations.
  • Pimped-Out Dress: Her magical girl outfit consists of a dress with a large, trailing skirt that's trimmed with frills and even has a little hook in the back from which a gem hangs.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: She recognizes the necessity of tactics in war, and tries to avoid consequences whenever possible.
  • Proper Lady: She's an elegant, composed, and refined lady who doesn't tolerate rudeness, as seen when she scolds CQ for losing her cool while in her presence.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: While Lethe may not be a particularly caring boss, the Osk Faction likes her far more than their former leader because she's at least willing to give her underlings more chances to prove themselves if they don't fail too badly.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: She's a sophisticated noblewoman who's concerned with her appearance and wants to look good in front of her subordinates. She's also a military general and the current leader of the Osk Faction.
  • Too Important to Walk: Lethe travels in a palanquin which is propelled by the Shufflins.
  • Verbal Tic: She tends to add "hm" to the end of her sentences.

    CQ Angel Hamuel

CQ Angel Hamuel

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cq_angel_hamuel.png

Master strategist and a member of the Osk Faction. CQ has been sent to retrieve Premium Sachiko on behalf of the Osk Faction, and is only equipped with a Shufflin army to do so. Alone but resourceful, CQ plans to right what went wrong before, and utilize her resources to bring the Osk Faction closer to victory. She prefers subterfuge and careful planning rather than brute strength.

She survives the events of ACES.

In QUEENS, she is the third Magical Girl to die, being stabbed by a Spade Shufflin's spear by an unknown assailant.

Her ability is to speak directly into people's heads. She possesses a radio microphone that she can use to transmit voices picked up by the radio to a target's mind. The sound will be projected mentally. If the sound is dialogue, it will also be translated automatically to a language the target understands. The only limitations is that CQ needs to have physically seen the person before she can communicate with them. Otherwise, there is no range penalty, and the signal will never get bad. Information given also travels instantaneously.

  • Arc Villain: She's the primary antagonist of ACES.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: She's set up as the Big Bad of ACES, only to be upstaged by Princess Deluge early on. CQ's promptly beaten repeatedly from then on.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After getting severely trounced by the end of ACES, she accepts defeat and says that she'll help Snow White when the time comes. Ultimately subverted since she dies before she can actually help Snow.
  • Number Two: She is Lethe's second-in-command.
  • Pet the Dog: Early in ACES she notices some kids playing in the street, and uses her radio to warn them not to do that.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Is her name spelled "CQ Angel Hammer", "CQ Angel Hamuel", "CQ Tenshi Hamuel" or "CQ Tenshi Hammer"?
  • The Strategist: She's the strategist for the Osk faction.

    Shufflin II

Shufflin II

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shufflin_ii.png

A new version of Shufflin under the command of CQ Angel Hamuel. She's composed of 52 different bodies, divided into 13 different suits each. These Shufflin are physically more capable than the previous models, and with CQ Angel Hamuel's help, they can function as an elite army.

Her ability is to have powers that change depending on various suits and numbers. She has the same functions as the Shufflin from JOKERS, however, the biggest difference in their abilities is that Shufflin II doesn't possess a Joker form and doesn't act as a hivemind, instead requiring a general to properly coordinate their army.

  • Clone Army: The Osk Faction created many squadrons of Shufflin II to make up for their lack of other magical girls.
  • Demoted to Extra: She has a much smaller role in QUEENS than her predessor, Shufflin, did in JOKERS.
  • Informed Attribute: Shufflin II is supposedly an elite army, and stronger than the first Shufflin. To say they do worse then their predecessor is a crushing understatement.
  • Villain Decay: Despite being reportedly stronger than the original Shufflin, Shufflin II does much worse in the story, getting their asses handed to them by Deluge.

Puk Faction

    Puk Puck

Puk Puck

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/puk_puck.png

The leader of the Puk Faction. Puk Puck is the current incarnation of one of the Three Sages, ancient magical girls, and supposedly the first magical girls created beforehand. She emphasizes teamwork, friendship, and trust in her Faction, and has a huge mansion where all of her allies live together. To people that know her, she's known to be a kind leader, willing to forgive any faults, no matter how large. Currently, she wants to do a ritual that requires Premium Sachiko, but unfortunately, Sachiko herself ran off somewhere.

She survives the events of ACES.

In QUEENS, she is the fourth Magical Girl to die, being crushed by The First Mage's device.

Her ability is to make friends with anyone. Anyone that looks at her will feel a compelling need to adore her, automatically becoming her best friend.

  • Absurdly Youthful Mother: Despite looking and acting young, she's Uluru, Sachiko and Sorami's adoptive mother.
  • All-Loving Hero: She cultivates the image of a benevolent, kindly ruler among her followers with her friendship magic.
  • Big Bad: In QUEENS she's the main villain, leading her faction of befriended magical girls to activate an ancient device that will change the Magical Kingdom.
  • Big Good: In ACES she appears to have good intentions in her quest to reinvigorate the Magical Kingdom. This is further supported by her genuinely caring for everyone in her faction. The reality is much more complicated than that.
  • Brainwashing for the Greater Good: She wants to reform the Magical Kingdom, so she uses her ability to befriend potential allies.
  • Charm Person: Her power is to "befriend" anyone she approaches. If they look at her or even hear her, her "friends" will be filled with an overwhelming sense to do anything she wants just for the sake of making her happy.
  • Karmic Death: Quite literally, as the karmic backlash caused by Sachiko's powers is what ultimately kills her, and also that she's crushed by the very artifact she had been trying to summon throughout the plot.
  • Lack of Empathy: For all her talk of friendship, she's appallingly lacking in empathy and compassion towards those around her. When Sorami and Sachiko die, Uluru is disturbed and confused by how little Puk Puck seems to care and the lack of effort she makes as the adopted mother of the three to comfort Uluru. That she doesn't hesitate to grab Sachiko's last contract from Uluru, despite it being all Uluru has left of her sister, goes to show how incredibly selfish Puk Puck really is.
  • More than Mind Control: Her powers aren't really mind control in the sense that she forces you to do something, but using a combination of her words and her powers, she ensures that people who fall under her power help her out of their own will.
  • Nigh-Invulnerable: As one of the Three Sages, she can easily resist and sometimes deflect attacks against her. This is demonstrated when she kills Lethe by deflecting a spear she threw back at her.
  • The Power of Friendship: Her magic is essientially a weaponized version of the power of friendship; she can befriend anyone and those that she befriends will do anything for her.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Despite looking like a child, she's the current incarnation of one of the Three Sages.
  • Superpower Lottery: She can befriend anyone instantly by sight alone if she uses her power at its max potential, making them worship her. It even works through video, though to a lesser degree.
  • Team Mom: She's essentially a mother figure to everyone within her faction.
  • Undignified Death: She trips on her own socks, her hands get stuck on the ground when she tries to get up, and then she is crushed to death by the device she desperately tried to activate. All because Sachiko's contract made her a Cosmic Plaything.

    Sorami Nakano

Sorami Nakano

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sorami_nakano.png

The youngest of the three adoptive sisters. Sorami is a carefree spirit, and a loyal member of the Puk Faction. She was assigned to the search party for Premium Sachiko. Out of the three sisters, she's the most level-headed, and tends to be the balancer between the her two older sisters. She wants people to get along mostly, and tries her best for that to happen.

She is the third Magical Girl to die in ACES, her leg being bitten off while the rest of her body was eaten up by Dark Cutie's magic.

Her ability is to know what's inside things without opening them up. She's able to see anything that's hidden from view. This includes physical objects like what's inside buildings, to information that someone wants to keep hidden. For abstract things like information, the more the person is comfortable in sharing that information, the less information Sorami can actually gain from her powers.

  • Deadpan Snarker: She usually has a quip in response to her sisters' antics.
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: Puts up an amazing fight against Mi-Chan before she's ultimately killed by Dark Cutie.
  • Gamer Chick: She's an avid gamer, which is the focus of one of the side-stories.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Her hairstyle is a pair of decorated pigtails.
  • Happily Adopted: She was adopted by Puk Puck, along with Uluru and Sachiko.
  • Lazy Bum: She has a habit of slacking off when it comes to training.
  • Nice Girl: She's quite level-headed and wishes for people to get along. It balances with Uluru's Jerk with a Heart of Gold status.

    Premium Sachiko

Premium Sachiko

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/premium_sachiko.png

The middle child of the three adoptive sisters. Sachiko is a bit of a timid cowardly girl. Recently, she's escaped the Puk Faction after being chosen for an important ritual. It's her escape that led Puk Puck to send a search party out to find her. For some reason, other parties are also conspiring to get to her first.

She is the fifth and final Magical Girl to die in ACES, being stabbed by a brainwashed Ripple's katana.

Her ability is to make someone incredibly lucky for a short while. When you write a contract on her dress, you will gain extreme good luck and success on the thing you wrote down and described. However, there's a catch. After that period of good luck, you'll suffer a proportional amount of bad luck as well. So you'll win the lottery, but then instantly get struck by lightning. Because of this, many magical girls, and even Sachiko herself considers her power not really that useful, to begin with.

  • Blessed with Suck: Her magic can make you impossibly lucky, but only for an instant. After that, you become incredibly unlucky, which usually results in your death.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: When she was young, she tested her powers on two of her friends who were subsequently killed. This traumatized her so much that she's deeply afraid of ever using her powers ever again.
  • Dirty Coward: She openly professes to such. She's still quite nice, just scared easily.
  • Happily Adopted: She was adopted by Puk Puck, along with Uluru and Sorami.
  • Joke Character: While capable of fighting to a degree, her crippling anxiety leaves her virtually incapable of fighting, and her ability is near useless to the point of getting people killed more often than not. In one of the side-stories where the sisters are trapped in the game from Restart, Uluru and Sorami get specialized weapons that fit their characters while Sachiko is left with a simple knife.
  • Kill the Cutie: She's brutally murdered at the end of ACES by a Brainwashed and Crazy Ripple.
  • Lethal Joke Character: Despite her worthless ability, she’s the one who ultimately manages to kill Puk Puck, via the karma from her contract backfiring on her.
  • Living MacGuffin: The plot of ACES is kick-started by various parties efforts to find her. This is because she's needed to activate a device left by the First Mage.
  • Nice Girl: She's kind to the people around her and doesn't want to use her powers out of fear of killing the people she uses them on.
  • Prone to Tears: She's prone to wailing about everything.
  • Properly Paranoid: While she's regularly a Shrinking Violet who seems scared about everything and lacks self confidence, her desire to not help with Puk Puck's ceremony turned out to be on the nose. Sachiko was afraid something bad was going to happen if she helped make the ceremony happen. It was soon revealed Puk Puck's plan was to restart a device to empower the Magical Kingdom, and said device was going to essentially melt down magical girls into raw magical power.
  • Shrinking Violet: She has difficulty making friends, mostly because she doesn't want to use or show off her powers.
  • What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?: She can make someone instantly lucky for an instant, but it comes at the cost of rendering that person horrifically unlucky afterward. Such a power would be more useful against someone's enemies, which is how Pfle manages to deal with Puk Puck.
  • Winds of Destiny, Change!: Signing one of her contracts funnels a person's lifetime luck into one event, giving them a near impossible amount of good luck. After that however, they won't have any luck at all, usually resulting in that same person's immediate demise. More accurately, it's shown that a person will experience something that they personally consider to be extremely unlucky. Pfle weaponizes this by having Shadow Gale fill out Sachiko's last contract while she's still brainwashed into loving Puk Puck. As a result, unluckiest thing to happen for Shadow Gale is Puk Puck dying.

Secret Team

    Dark Cutie

Dark Cutie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dark_cutie.png
The leader of a bounty hunter team of magical girls. Dark Cutie is a well-known celebrity within the Magical Kingdom, starring in the anime Cutie Healer Galaxy. As such, she's quite a famous figure. However, after a scandal in the PR Division, she was reduced to a villainous role in the show. Now she leads the bounty hunter group. She specializes in assassination and infiltration, and is very resourceful, if a bit quiet and uncaring.

She survives the events of both ACES and QUEENS.

Her ability is to manipulate shadows and silhouettes as if they're real. She can manifest shadows that are caused both by her or anything else into real life. The shadow takes the form of whatever they were cast before, which gives her extreme versatility in creating the right tools for the job.

    Micchan the Dictionary

Micchan the Dictionary

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/micchan_the_dictionary.png

The sub-leader (and strategic head) of a Bounty Hunter team of magical girls. Micchan the Dictionary is the strategist of her team, and mostly spends her time analyzing information and reading up on information. She acts as the straight man to the team, and while Dark Cutie is technically their leader, both Dark Cutie and Glassianne agree that Micchan is best suited for planning and tactics. Micchan specializes in strategizing and dividing up roles for her team, as well as pretty much all the logistics involved.

She is the fourth Magical Girl to die in ACES, being stabbed by Ripple's katana.

Her ability is to change whatever she's holding into something else. Micchan is able to modify one syllable, add one syllable, or remove one syllable from an object that she holds in order to change it to something else. She can only do one of the three, not all at once. For this reason, if she can't transform the object into something convenient, she'll often transform it into another object that can then be used to transform into the object she originally wanted. The names can be as distinct or synonymous as she wants. For example, a T-Shirt can be modified with both "Shirt" or "Cloth".

  • Affably Evil: She's actually fairly pleasant, but only when she is not "working"; as a bounty hunter, she is totally merciless against her enemies.
  • Meaningful Name: In Japanese, her name is "Monoshiri Mitchan" (物知りみっちゃん). "Monoshiri" means "walking dictionary/extensive knowledge", and her magic is based around words and wordplay.
  • Straight Man: She plays the role for Dark Cutie, explaining to people Cutie's fondness for villains.
  • The Strategist: She makes the plans for her group.

    Glassianne

Glassianne

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/glassianne.png

The scout for the Bounty Hunter team of magical girls. Glassianne is a socialite who loves interaction and talking with people. She opens a cake shop once a month in the human world as well. Within Dark Cutie's team, she's in charge of mission control on the field, providing recon and information on the go to her teammates.

She survives the events of ACES.

In QUEENS, she is the first Magical Girl to die, being blown up in a grenade explosion caused by a group of Shufflin.

Her ability is to see all sorts of places with her magical glasses. She can "switch channels" on her glasses to see anywhere she's been through personally. Her glasses can also zoom in and out, or move around the field of vision, though the movement of her glass-vision is so slow that it can't keep up with running magical girls.

  • Affably Evil: She's a ruthless bounty hunter with a friendly demeanor.
  • Villainous BSoD: She becomes unable to do much after Micchan's death.

Individuals

    Patricia

Patricia/Shia Hattori

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/patricia_0.png

The leader of a magical girl mercenary group. She was hired by Pfle in order to protect Shadow Gale in case of any attacks on her, after recent events involving the attack on Hitokouji manor. She leads a group of 10 magical girl mercenaries, and is known to be very aggressive in a fight.

She is the first Magical Girl to die in ACES, being frozen to death by Princess Deluge, so she can kidnap Shadow Gale.

Her ability is to render any enemy powerless with her magic handcuffs. By cuffing another magical girl, she can completely nullify any Magical Skills they have. The cuffs are huge and unbreakable, although the chains holding the cuffs themselves are breakable. Once caught, the only way to unlock yourself is to unlock the cuffs via a key, which only Patricia possesses.

  • Power Nullifier: Her handcuffs can disable the magic of other magical girls whenever they're worn.
