Voiced by: Chihiro Suzuki [Drama CD], Jun Fukuyama [Anime] (Japanese), Blake Shepard (English)
The protagonist of the series, an incredibly masochistic boy who nevertheless wants to be cured of his condition if he is to court a certain girl.

    Mio Isurugi

Mio Isurugi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mio_isurugi.png
Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa [Drama CD], Ayana Taketatsu [Anime] (Japanese), Monica Rial (English)
One of two main female protagonists, the sadistic president of the Second Voluntary Club.
  • A-Cup Angst: Taunting her flat chest is a very good way to piss her off, especially whenever Tatsukichi's crossdressing persona does so.
  • Bait-and-Switch Character Intro: When Taro first meets her, Mio gives the impression of being a polite and gentle girl. That facade is pretty quickly stripped away ten minutes into the first episode alone when Taro tries to leave her club room and Mio reveals her true violent nature to force him to stay.
  • Berserk Button: Poking fun of her flat chest.
  • Betty and Veronica: The sadistic and domineering Veronica to Arashiko's shy and sweet-natured Betty.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: As her love for Taro develops, she begins showing tendencies to be snippy whenever he's with another girl. She's only mostly okay with him being with Arashiko.
  • Club President: Of the Second Voluntary Club.
  • Cosplay Otaku Girl: Mio puts on a different cosplay costume every episode, usually as part of her "Shock Treatment" for Taro.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: She becomes friendlier towards Taro as she falls in love with him.
  • Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male: Mio basically subjects Taro to torture sessions on regular basis to "treat" his masochism. This is funny mainly because Mio is getting the opposite effect and it becomes a full-blown BDSM session.
  • Fetishized Abuser: She intentionally plays this role towards Taro in order to help him deal with his masochism "problems" (though it doesn't seem to be far from her standard self). Mio physically and verbally abuses him in every way possible as a "Shock Treatment", but it doesn't take effect since Taro always enjoys it.
  • Forceful Kiss: She stole Taro's Sacred First Kiss.
  • A God Am I: Often refers to herself as a God.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's a hardcore sadistic Tsundere, there's no arguing that. She does seem to have a genuine interest in helping people and proves to deeply care about her friend Arashiko and Tarou in her own way.
  • Matchmaker Crush: She tries to support Arashiko's crush on Taro without realizing she's falling for Taro herself.
  • The Napoleon: She's short, extremely quick-tempered and violent, often beating up Taro who enjoys it greatly.
  • Older Than She Looks: She's an eleventh-grade girl, yet looks no older than seventh-grade.
  • Sadist: She often enjoys "treating" Taro's masochism a bit too much. Hilariously, Mio herself doesn't seem to realize her own sadistic tendencies.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: Her dynamic with Taro exemplifies this so well they're the trope picture. Mio is full of energy and enthusiasm, driving her to drag Taro along when she wants to go somewhere with him.
  • Significant Birth Date: Mio's birthday is Christmas Day.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Taro's friendly and helpful personality despite his masochism is the source of her growing feelings for him.
  • Tiny Tyrannical Girl: She's a cute small girl, along with a self-proclaimed God who expects others to obey her as such and will react violently to those who oppose her.
  • Token Mini-Moe: Mio is the shortest, most underdeveloped of the main characters.
  • Tsundere: The harsh "Tsun" type. Her normal self is extremely harsh, and often severely sadistic. It takes work to bring out the sweet side, but she does wind up showing it occasionally to Taro.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She's afraid of cats.

    Arashiko Yuuno

Arashiko Yuuno

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/arashiko_yuno.png
Voiced by: Yui Horie [Drama CD], Saori Hayami [Anime] (Japanese), Emily Neves (English)
The other main female protagonist and a beautiful, shy girl.
  • Betty and Veronica: The shy and sweet-natured Betty to Mio's sadistic and domineering Veronica.
  • Broken Bird: She used to be more outgoing until her ex-boyfriend assaulted her. The whole ordeal made her into the androphobic Shrinking Violet she's today.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Her sizable bust is considered a "gift" by Taro and many other guys.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: She's clearly nursing a crush on Taro as time goes on, but she's too shy to say it out loud.
  • Catchphrase:
"I'm scared of men!" (Every time Taro accidentally touches her physically)
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She gets easily jealous when Taro is around other girls.
  • Cuteness Proximity: When animals are around.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Back in middle school, she was forced to go out with an older student, Yoshioka. One day, he tried to forcefully kiss her, which Arashiko responded by scratching him. Yoshioka proceeded to violently assault her and then spread rumors of her sleeping around.
  • Does Not Like Men: She's terrified of men and resorts to physical assault whenever one touches her.
  • Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male: She frequently delivers the Megaton Punch to Taro whenever he gets close enough to Arashiko to trigger her androphobia. Of course, this only makes him happy because he's a hardcore masochist.
  • Hates Being Touched: Due to a particularly traumatic experience with an abusive ex-boyfriend, Arashiko absolutely can't stand to be touched by men, even if it's accidental. Taro frequently gets Megaton Punched by her because of this.
  • Heroic BSoD: She has a serious breakdown and locks herself inside her room for an entire day after she meets her abusive ex-boyfriend again and he triggers her deep emotional trauma.
  • Last-Name Basis: Most characters call her by this.
  • Nice Girl: Arashiko is really kind, save for her androphobia.
  • Official Couple: In the light novels, she and Taro start dating.
  • Prone to Tears: She's prone to crying because of her shy and delicate personality.
  • Sadist: An entire episode is dedicated to Arashiko trying to become as sadistic as Mio in order to pander to Taro's masochism.
  • Shrinking Violet: Arashiko is very shy and insecure.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: She falls in love with Taro despite him being a perverted masochist because she realizes he's a very good person at heart and he would never try to hurt her.
  • Trauma Button: Getting touched by men, even by accident, sends her into a violent rampage. She explains she instinctively believes in the mantra "hit, or be hit" after the incident of her ex-boyfriend's assault.
  • Tsundere: Sweet "Dere" type. She's normally very polite and considerate to everyone, or at least wants to be in spite of her androphobia. However, she can't keep herself from flinging into violent episodes whenever she gets too close to Taro and can resort to verbal abuse sometimes. At one point, she starts doing this on purpose to appeal to Taro's masochistic traits.

Supporting Characters

    Tatsukichi Hayama

Tatsukichi Hayama / Tatsumi Antoinette XVI

Click here  to see Tatsumi Antoinette XVI
Voiced by: Rina Sato (Japanese), Meaghan Avocato (English)
Taro's best friend and a crossdresser.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Tatsukichi has an ex-girlfriend and gets seriously freaked out when Taro falls in love with him due to Mio hypnotizing him. However, Tatsumi Antoinette XVI does try to kiss Taro once and gives in to the advances of a crossdressing Taro.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: He looks like a very pretty girl when he crossdresses. Taro even crushed on his crossdressing persona before he found out it was Tatsukichi.
  • Becoming the Mask: As time passed, he's noticeably becoming more and more like his crossdressing persona.
  • Gender-Concealing Voice: He's already voiced by a woman, but his voice is even more feminine-sounding when he crossdresses.
  • Girly Run: Particularly in episode 1.
  • Hime Cut: When crossdressed as Tatsumi, he wears a wig with blunt bangs, bra strap length sidelocks, and hip-length straight hair. This goes perfectly with the hammy princess persona he likes to take on.
  • It Was a Gift: His hobby was inspired by a girl he befriended when he was little.
  • Large Ham: Tatsumi Antoinette XVI is a flamboyant, larger-than-life Ojou with a habit of shouting to "peasants" just how beautiful and superior "she" is.
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: Prone to do this when he crossdresses. See for yourself.
  • Ojou: Tatsumi Antoinette XVI is a parody of the trope. "She" behaves like an arrogant princess with a Noblewoman's Laugh and demands nothing but praise from "lowly commoners". Then you remember "she" is just Taro's male Best Friend in drag.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Whenever his Tatsumi persona shows up, "she" just loves to pick fights with Mio, particularly mocking her flat chest. Mio beats the crap out of the crossdresser in retribution.
  • Sobriquet Sex Switch: Tatsukichi names his crossdressing alter-ego "Tatsumi Antoinette XVI".
  • Unsettling Gender-Reveal: Downplayed. Tarou does get surprised when Tatsukichi confesses his crossdressing hobby, but nonchalantly accepts his friend's quirks. He's still bummed out to discover his first crush was a guy in drag.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Tatsukichi is a perfectly Nice Guy who just happens to enjoy dressing like a girl. His crossdressing alter-ego has a Large Ham personality that's Played for Laughs.

Yumi Mamiya

Voiced by: Yuko Gibu (Japanese), Maggie Flecknoe (English)
Yuuno's best friend.
  • Ambiguously Bi: She's a little too friendly to Arashiko to be mere friends, but is also shown to be attracted to Tatsukichi, who she dated previously.
  • Does Not Like Men: With the exception of Tatsukichi, Yumi has a big dislike for men, namely because of what happened to Arashiko.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Her hair is tied up into twintails.
  • Happy-Ending Massage: She specializes in these.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: She's the only one who knows nothing about Tatsukichi's crossdressing hobby.

    Noa Hiiragi

Noa Hiiragi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/noa_hiiragi.png
Voiced by: Sayuri Yahagi (Japanese), Brittney Karbowski (English)
A second-year, president of the Inventors' Club and an all-around genius.
  • A-Cup Angst: Like Mio, she isn't happy at all about her lack of curves. Luckily, she's a genius and created a potion to gain a voluptuous adult body.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: She develops a crush on Taro because he accepted to become her first friend.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Green eyes to go with her green hair.
  • Friendless Background: She could never make any friends while growing up because scientists kept testing her Improbably High I.Q..
  • Gadgeteer Genius: She's incredibly smart, and can invent just about anything.
  • Height Angst: She's annoyed about her small stature. She even made a potion that would give her a more adult body.
  • Improbably High I.Q.: She has an IQ of over 200.
  • Intelligence Equals Isolation: Because she was a Child Prodigy, Noa was never allowed to play outside with other kids. This nearly drove her to use a machine to make every single person in the world into a perverted weirdo. She stops when Taro befriends her.
  • Older Than She Looks: Like Mio, she also looks too young to be an eleventh-grader.
  • Overnight Age-Up: Keeps with her a bunch of pills which she can use if she wants to look like someone of her age.
  • Teen Genius: Really short for one, but still.
  • Third-Person Person: She speaks in third person, which only emphasizes her childish appearance and personality despite being in high school.
  • Token Mini-Moe: Even more so than Mio. Noa is small and acts childish for a high school student, which makes her a lot more moe than the other girls.

    Yukinojo Himura

Yukinojo Himura

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yukinojo_himura.png
Voiced by: Tsubasa Yonaga (Japanese), Clint Bickham (English)
Noa's pedophilic admirer.
  • Berserk Button: Noa using a potion to appear older causes Yukinojo to go into a rampage with his pervert Super Mode.
  • Comedic Lolicon: Yukinojo is obsessed with little girls and works for Noa just because she looks like a child. Noa using a potion to appear older causes Yukinojo to go into a pervert Super Mode that rivals Taro's.
  • Satellite Character: He's Noa's perverted assistant with a pedophilic obsession with her. That's all you need to know about his character.
  • Subordinate Excuse: He works as Noa's assistant because she looks like a preteen and he's a lolicon, no other reason.

    Shizuka Sado

Shizuka Sado

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shizuka_sado.png
Voiced by: Ai Nonaka [Drama CD], Kana Asumi [Anime] (Japanese), Tiffany Grant (English)

Taro's older sister.

  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Inverted. Shizuka is Taro's older sister, even though she looks younger than him, and frequently annoys him with her extreme brother complex.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She hates seeing other women around Taro. She even has a rivalry with her own mother over who loves Taro more.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She wears her hair in low pigtails that only contribute to her childish looks.
  • The Glomp: She loves greeting Taro with a tackle hug.
  • Incest-ant Admirer: She's a blatant brocon who uses every possible means to get close to her younger brother, even glomping him and crawling into his bed often, much to his dismay.
  • My Sister Is Off-Limits: Gender-Inverted. She doesn't want her brother to date anyone.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Whenever Taro is at home, he can hardly get Shizuka to give him some personal space.
  • Older Than She Looks: Despite looking like a middle-schooler, she's actually a college student.

    Tomoko Sado

Tomoko Sado

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tomoko_sado.png
Voiced by: Aya Hisakawa [Drama CD], Sayaka Ohara [Anime] (Japanese), Shelley Calene-Black (English)

Taro's mother.

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Taro almost dies from embarrassment when Tomoko lets Arashiko see Taro's old photos from when he was a baby, all while bragging about how she's the first woman who ever came into contact with Taro so she obviously loves him most.
  • Incest-ant Admirer: Much like with Shizuka, Taro is very annoyed and disturbed by his mother's borderline incestous displays of affection.
  • Japanese Politeness: She's so polite that she adds the "-san" honorific to both her children's names.
  • Jealous Parent: Since her husband has passed away, she daily competes with her own daughter for the attention of her son. They occasionally make a truce when another girl is getting close to Taro.
  • Love-Obstructing Parents: She conspires with her daughter Shizuka whenever a girl comes into Taro's life besides them.
  • My Beloved Smother: She's an overly protective and overly doting mother, always spoiling her son to the point of annoying him.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Taro has little to no personal space at home because Tomoko and Shizuka don't give him any.
  • Older Than She Looks: She's in her forties, but looks very young for her age.
  • Through His Stomach: She's always trying to win her son's affection through her food.

Other Characters

    Yoshioka

Yoshioka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yoshioka_mm.png
Voiced by: Susumu Chiba (Japanese), Jay Hickman (English)
Arashiko's abusive ex-boyfriend and the source of her androphobia.
  • Domestic Abuse: When he was dating Arashiko, he once tried to force himself on her and when she tried to defend herself, he beat her violently. Arashiko was so traumatized that now she can't get close to men without punching them out of fear of being beaten again.
  • Hate Sink: He assaulted Arashiko after she defended herself from his forceful attempt to kiss her, which traumatized her so much that now she can't stand to be near men. When Taro confronts him about it, Yoshioka isn't one bit sorry about it and claims it's Arashiko's fault for scratching his face. Needless to say, it's very satisfying when Taro gives him the beating and humiliation he deserves.
  • Jerk Jock: This pretty-boy douche is a boxer, and he uses these skills to punch poor Arashiko out for not letting him have his way with her.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Taro gave him a well-deserved beating as payback for traumatizing poor Arashiko. Bonus points afterwards, for what Yumi did to him as payback and revenge for what happened to Arashiko.
  • Sadist: If punching out Taro is an enjoyable experience, then beating Arashiko might be an even more pleasant experience for this sick bastard.
  • Slasher Smile: How he greets Arashiko after bumping in outside the streets.
  • Would Hit a Girl: He beat up his own girlfriend after she wouldn't let him have his way with her.
