Ruling Party: Old Democratic Partynote
Ideology: Jacksonianismnote
Located in the Deep South of the former United States of America, the Constitutional American Republic is one of the three factions that broke off of from the United States during the Second American Civil War. As their region may already hint at, their primary ideological difference from other factions in the aforementioned second Civil War, is the concern over the preservation of the White Race in America, with the Old Democratic Party under former Oklahoma Governor William H. Murray taking-charge as the nation's President.

However, with ever-present arising factionalism within the Republic continues to add tension to the internal political scene of the nation, the future of the Constitutional American Republic will lay uncertain. Many seek greater influence in the newly-born republic, such as the ever-present Ku Klux Klan, and even the radical technocrats of large industries wish to grasp power.

  • Deep South: The CAR is located in the Deep South subregion of the United States (with the exception of the Longist stronghold of Louisiana), and holds white supremacist views typical for Southern politicians during the 30s. That being said, unlike the old Confederacy, the CAR has no desire to secede, but instead seeks to build an America that respects the Southern way of life.
  • Downer Ending: Majority of the unifiers are reactionary and white supremacist dictators with different degrees of repression, racism, and possibly commit genocide. Undoubtedly they have some of the worst endings with all of the Klan being Fascist in all but name, the Fordists create a ruthless corporate slave empire, Murray's ODP is white supremacist dictatorship, and the militarists under Patton giving authority to Moseley can effectively keep a militaristic dictatorship intact with a cult of personality that's openly racist.
  • Evil Reactionary: The Constitutional American Republic is named as such because they see themselves as closest in spirit to the original American constitution, which was to advance and protect Real Americans' interests. The constitution is treated very seriously as the law of the land and should override more democratic concerns, while the current political process is seen as selling out the interests of white Americans in favor of minorities, industry, bankers, etc.
  • The Klan: Alongside the Southern Old Democrats, the Ku Klux Klan is one of the major power blocs within the CAR.
  • Oppressive States of America: In contrast to the other factions, which might or might not end up as this after winning the Civil War depending on which path they take, the vast majority of times the CAR will end up as a white supremacist dictatorship.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: The CAR's leadership is made up of Dixiecrats and the Ku Klux Klan, fanatical white supremacists to the man, and in many cases also anti-Semites.
  • Renegade Splinter Faction: The Old Democratic Party is made up of Dixiecrats who espouse older Democratic Party values, and split off because they thought the Democrats did too little to oppose the Republicans when they eased the suppression of leftists.
  • Right-Wing Militia Fanatic: Many members of the CAR resemble a proto-version of these, essentially appealing to the "Original American Constitution" and "Traditional Southern Values" that they argue the federal government is trespassing with their policies and laws in order to justify their segregationist and reactionary views.

Civil War President

New Jackson Golden Age Portrait
Role: Presidentnote
Party: Old Democratic Partynote
Ideology: Jacksonianismnote
In-Game Biography: Click to Show

  • Equal-Opportunity Evil: Despite being a white supremacist, Murray is willing to ally with Native American tribes who got fed up with the federal government (especially those punished for siding with the old Confederacy) and desire higher autonomy.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Murray forces the Klan to become a regulated entity with guidelines to follow, since many of their leaders desire more autonomy than is healthy for the state and their vigilante nature betrays a disregard for the Old Democrats' law.
  • President Evil: Murray is the Old Democratic Party's candidate for the 1936 Presidential election. If he wins, he'll enact an executive order to pass the Smith Act (which ends non-white and non-Protestant immigration to the United States and forces segregation across the entire USA, including banning whites from marrying Jews and those with more than 25% black blood), essentially turning the US into a white supremacist dictatorship before Douglas MacArthur inevitably deposes him and kickstarts the Civil War.
  • Villainous Legacy: Murray considers the ODP to be the true heirs of President Andrew Jackson's Democratic Party.

  • Allohistorical Allusion: When Ford dies he assumedly has a heart attack while smoking a cigarette and drinking brandy. This alludes to Stalin's death OTL, where he died from a stroke due to heavy smoking and his guards were too scared to enter his room to assist out of fear.
  • Lord Country: Upon taking power, he can rename the Constitutional American Republic to just 'Fordlandia'.
  • The Man Behind the Man: To Charles Lindbergh, whom he uses as a popular 'face' to endear the public to corporatocracy and his brand of right-wing technocracy.
  • Manipulative Bastard: He is able leverage his industrial acumen, and Lindbergh's popularity, to oust Murray from the CAR and install Linbergh as a loyal lackey, and can even take the reins himself.
  • Narcissist: Ford readily describes himself as a genius, and he sees himself as fit to be in control of a continental technocracy, whereby only the most qualified and intelligent may rule. He can also rename the entire USA after himself.

Corruption rules over open authoritarianism; each and every representative, career politician, bureaucrat, general and civil servant in America is bent to the machine's will through endless bribery and graft.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: In response to the protests, riots and lynchings committed by right-wing conservatives and the KKK after Blacks are given the right to vote, Crump arrests and imprisons all those responsible for these actions, with lynchers even executed in rare circumstances of particular barbarity. He also begins a nation-wide campaign to crack-down on the KKK, for Crump sees them as nothing more than tantrum-throwing cockroaches that need to be exterminated for the greater good of the Social Machine and his ambitions.

  • Eviler than Thou: The Black Legion are perhaps the most despicable members of the Klan in America. Being notoriously violent, bloodthirsty, and brutal with their killings under the idea of vigilantism. They are nothing more than maniacal Klan bandits more unhinged under the illusion of killing in the name of vigilante justice.
  • Forgiven, but Not Forgotten: Downplayed, Effinger knows of Stephenson's serial rapist and serial killer tendencies, but doesn't care about them. He is only willing to showcase it to the rest of the Klan as blackmail if the Black Legion are not allowed control.

  • The Coup: If Herbert W. Armstrong's control over America falters, Rockwell and Yockey will launch a coup against him and put the nation under control of the Young Klan again.
  • Cultural Cringe: A more villainous version, as it's the USA principles of freedom and democracy that led Yockey to dismissing it as a "destructive and decadent nation", and he hopes to exchange it with a newly Pan-European identity.
  • Foreign Culture Fetish: Yockey believes that America is basically everything wrong with the West, and seeks to bring forth a Europe-inspired cultural revolution.
  • Mood Whiplash: A Yockey playthrough into the People's Imperium involves months if not years of Ku Klux Klan devastation of America and many millions of deaths in wars to conquer Europe. At the end of all this, Yockey is given the decision to suddenly become a leftist.
  • United Europe: Yockey dreams of conquering Europe and uniting the Western world under the Imperium of Europe to stand a chance against the hordes of barbarians that threaten Western civilisation.
  • Young and in Charge: Having been born in 1917, Yockey is likely to be only in his early 20s when he wrestles control of the CAR from Armstrong; while at game start he has very little influence due to his age, Armstrong's purge of all actual elder ODP politicians, generals and Klan dragons propels him to prominence within the Klan's traditional elements.

  • Evil Is Not Pacifist: A extremely rare aversion, specially for a war game like Hearts of Iron. • Reluctant Ruler: President Patton dislikes the politics of his office, and prefers to be with people, specifically his soldiers. If he takes power, he'll leave many of the day-to-day decision making to his vice president and cabinet, while he travels across the country giving speeches to veterans from all sides of the Civil War.
  • Self-Applied Nickname: Patton, a student of history, scoffs at MacArthur's 'American Caesar' nickname, and pokes fun at him by coming up with his own nicknames: the American Hannibal, the American Scipio, the American Napoleon, and even the American Asskicker.

Party: National Association for the Advancement of Colored Peoplenote
Ideology: Radical Progressivismnote

  • Token Good Teammate: White is one of the very few anti-racists in the CAR, and he is the only socialist that advocates anti-racist policies that aren't repressive or authoritarian. https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_fsa_george_w_christians.png
Role: Presidentnote
Party: Crusade for the Second Southern Revolutionnote
Ideology: Fitzhughismnote

  • Despotism Justifies the Means: Fitzhughism, as promoted by Christians, follows the belief that the very idea that one can be "Too much governed" as ludicrous, and instead seeks to make sure everyone, regardless of race, is "kept in their rightful place", by creating a color-blind chattel slavery caste system in America.
  • Dirty Communists: Zigzagged. Christians himself claims to be more radical than other socialists by 'being so red making the communards look yellow', though his actual political views are quite far from actual socialism and encompass things such as chattel slavery, anti-Catholicism, and authoritarian hyper pragmatism.
  • Hates Everyone Equally: Christians is notable for being the only CAR leader who goes as far as promoting race-blind slavery, as under the ideals of Fitzhughism, the Bill of Rights and the very notion of individual liberty are rejected as "heretical doctrines".
  • Knight Templar: Christians is a devout follower of Fitzhughism which essentially is anti-capitalist, race-blind, chattel slavery. He believes that socialism itself is not radical enough, and claims it's too yellow, comparing himself to being red. Due to his uncompromising beliefs, this pretty much leaves all of the Internationale to hate him, except a few zealots and disillusioned radicals, who are die-hard supporters of him and his bizarre ideology.
