    Clover (Chima)

An energetic rabbit who dreams of traveling with Rambler. Her best friend is Mallow and has a close relationship with Hickory.


  • Accidental Marriage: With Hickory in one story in the later volumes.
  • Aside Glance: She is seen looking at the viewer multiple times in both the anime and manga. One episode ends with Clover looking at the viewer and winks at them.
  • Blush Sticker: This is permanent in the anime while it mostly shows up a few times in the manga
  • Break the Cutie:
    • This happened to her a few times in the manga. Especially when it has to do with Rambler or Mallow and her relationship with them. Especially in Volume 2, 3, and 5.
    • The final chapter. Rambler tells her that he doesn't want her to travel with him which causes Clover to cry badly and starts hating him. Hickory visits her room and sees her sobbing and tells her of what happened. She explains that she really hates Rambler until Hickory asks her "Do you really hate him?" which calms Clover down and has a talk with him. She later learns that Rambler is trying to save the other animals from an oncoming forest fire.
  • Calling Your Attacks: "Rabbit kick!" (Later changed to "Clover Kick!") known as "Chima Kick" in Japan.
  • Catapult Nightmare: Wakes up from a nightmare in volume 5 after accusing one of the Bulbul Brothers of stealing from another forest.
  • Disney Death: While she doesn't die, in volume 5 Clover turns herself into a giant fish to prevent a dangerous forest fire. While she doesn't die, it appears that she is now a fish causing Rambler to cry thinking Clover is no more.
  • Determinator: Clover never ever gives up! Especially when it comes to following her dream of traveling with Rambler.
  • Expy: Of "Puku" from Pukupuku Circular Notice another manga created by Sayuri Tatsuyama.
  • Four-Leaf Clover: Used as a hairpin which was previously a three leaf clover. In the anime, Clover keeps the four leaf clover from the beginning.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: Happens in the volume 5 story "A Charm For A Perfect Score" where Clover switches bodies with Hickory. She learns that being a flying squirrel isn't all that easy while Hickory can do work much faster which scares Clover's parents.
  • Genki Girl: She's very hyperactive and very energetic. Much to the annoyance to Kale.
  • Guilt-Induced Nightmare: After she accuses the Bulbul Brothers as being thieves to Professor Hoot and the other adult residents of Crescent Forest. Clover develops an intense nightmare where she gets ostracized by the residents (including her parents and friends) and is banished from her the forest. Her nightmare causes her to confess to Professor Hoot and mother that she lied about the duo being thieves and clearing their innocence.
  • Heart Symbol: The shape of Clover's chest is heart shaped.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In the final chapter, she sacrifices her life by turning into a giant fish that sprays water to stop the forest fire. While she doesn't die, she turns into a non-talking fish which drives Rambler to tears. Which revives her back to her bunny form
  • The Heroine: The main protagonist of the series.
  • The Klutz: She can be quite clumsy at times.
  • Luminescent Blush: Blushes when Luna kisses him at the end of there performance in the final story of the 4th volume much to the surprise of Clover and the rest of the animals.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: She teams up with Cinnamon and Rambler in the final chapter of the entire series when a forest fire is getting closer to Crescent Forest.
  • Megaton Punch: Or rather Megaton Kick, which she uses when she gets very upset and angry. Mostly around Cinnamon and Twirl.
  • Motor Mouth: In the anime adaptation, she talks very fast during conversations. However, she does talk slowly when she gets upset,angry, or annoyed.
  • My God, What Have I Done?:
    • Clover after she realizes that she lied about the Bulbul brothers along with accusing them of being thieves in volume 5 which she first reveals to Hickory after waking up from a Nightmare.
    • Clover also felt very guilty to herself after snapping at Kale's baby brothers after ruining the necklace Mallow gave to her. She starts crying after reading the apology letter with the necklace all fixed up and learning that the bunnies got taken home from Kale's parents. This gives her an idea to create an apology present to the bunnies.
  • The Pollyanna: She's very optimistic and loves being happy around others.
  • Projectile Kiss: Although she doesn't actually do this. She does make a kissing gesture to the reader in Volume 3 when she learns the reader is still reading about her adventures which makes her happy.
  • Tears of Remorse: After she scolds Kale's baby brothers after they accidentally break beads that she and Mallow made. She runs out of her home and starts crying, however later on she returns home and learns from her mother that Kale took them home. While she was gone, Kale's baby brothers decide to fix the beads. Clover reacts by feeling guilty for how she treated them and heads to Kale's home where Clover and Kale decided to make an apology gift after Clover reads their letter they wrote her after they fixed Clover's necklace.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: While still a girly girl, she might count as a Tomboy to Mallow's Girly Girl.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In the fifth volume and final stories of the series.
  • Walking the Earth: Her overall ambition while trying to convince Rambler.
  • Watching the Sunset: A non-romantic example, Hickory and Clover both promised each other to watch the sunset with each other every night. This is the ending for one of the last stories in volume 1 after Hickory remembers his early years of babysitting Clover.
  • White Bunny: She along with her mother are the notable white rabbits in the series.

    Mallow (Meru)

A shy female lop-eared rabbit and is Clover's best friend. She later learns that Shallot has a crush on her and later marries him.


  • Apologizes a Lot: Not only does she apologize very often, but would also blame herself such as thinking she caused Clover's stomach ache in the story "In Search Of Mallow's Dream" and Shallot injuring his inflamed paws in "Mallow's Heart Flutters".
  • Babies Ever After: In the epilogue, she and Shallot are married and have two children, whom look exactly like their parents.
  • Berserk Button: Don't ever make fun of Clover in front of her. Kale learned this the hard way in the 4th volume in a later story.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: While she is mostly quiet and non-violent. When you make fun of Clover she will get pretty upset.
  • Break the Cutie: She started crying out of guilt in the first volume after she blames herself for getting Clover in deep trouble.
  • Character Development: As the manga goes on with each story. Mallow while still shy starts becoming more independent starting in volume 4.
  • Cry into Chest: She cries into her mother's chest after she confesses that she was the reason behind her foot injury while Clover gets scolded which drives her to tears.
  • Cuddle Bug: She and Clover loves give each other hugs. Taken Up To Eleven after she learns Shallot likes her.
  • The Cutie: Mostly due to her shyness.
  • The Drag-Along: Prone to getting in trouble with Clover whenever she gets involved when a problem that she would not usually get involved.
  • Extreme Door Mat: She blames herself for certain bad situations involving Clover.
  • Foil: To Clover and Kale during certain situations along with Shallot.
  • Grew a Spine: She finally starts making her own decisions and starts acting more independent starting in Volume 4 and especially in Volume 5.
  • Hidden Depths: In the anime, when Clover and friends decide to make a sweater for Hickory. Clover alongside Kale and Shallot aren't that familiar with sewing. Mallow is very familiar with sewing and even knows the widths and lengths.
  • The Heart: She would sometimes call out some of her friends when they are in a middle of a bad situation that some of them might have caused or leaving rude comments.
  • The Ingenue: One of the nicest characters in the manga next to Hickory. However, Mallow is reluctantly dragged into Clover's mischeif.
  • Luminescent Blush: First does this when she tells the class her name in the first story of the series. She does this again when Shallot accidentally reveals that he likes her.
  • The Medic: After she takes care of Clover from suffering a stomach ache in "In Search Of Mallow's Dream". She learns that her future goal is to become a doctor.
  • Nice Girl: One of the sweetest characters, Clover does find her to be a bit "too nice" after she gets tricked by Twirl's prank but actually likes it which makes Twirl feel a bit confused but also develops a secret crush on her.
  • The Quiet One: Start's out like this, but later grows out of it as the series progresses.
  • Stepford Smiler: Type A, Mallow does this in the story "In Search For Mallow's Dream" in the 5th volume.
  • Tears of Remorse: She begins crying after she reveals to her mother, Professor Hoot, Clover along with her mother that she caused the situation since she wanted to be just like Clover. This was after she went down a hill after Clover shows her how to slide down a dangerous hill on the leaf which later caused her to injure her foot.
  • Tender Tears: Prone to this, especially when she once got Clover in trouble in the first volume.
  • Those Two Girls: With Clover.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Girly Girl to Clover's Tomboy.

    Kale (Gaku)

A strong brown hare who is very loyal to his friends and family. He's also the strongest of the main 4. Kale is also the oldest friend that Clover has known since they were younger before going to school.


  • Babies Ever After: In the epilogue, he is married to his pen pal, Thistle, and has a son.
  • Badass Adorable: Not only does he defend his friends from danger. But he even attacks a monster in the first volume when it captures Mallow.
  • Berserk Button: Harming his friends and especially his baby brothers.
  • Big Brother Worship: His baby brothers really love him.
  • The Big Guy: The strongest of Clover's friends who gets involve in most of the violence in some stories.
  • Bishie Sparkle: He is briefly seen like this in Volume 4 after Forsnythia and Mr. Mole's daughter developing a crush on him.
  • Crush Blush: After his pin-pal named "Thistle" mailed herself to Kale's home in volume 4 since Kale through the female bunny was a guy at first until he learns from a Hawk that the bunny is a female. At first he feels a bit shocked that the bunny lied about her identity. However in the aftermath of the story, there is an extra panel which has Clover's friends asking him questions about the bunny he seen. As he starts describing about her appearance and her how cute she is he starts blushing and starts developing a crush on her.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Leaves sarcastic and rude remarks around Clover.
  • Distaff Counterpart: He's basically a male version of Clover minus the hyperactivity.
  • Dope Slap: Prone to doing this to Clover and Shallot.
  • The Drag-Along: Clover would sometimes drag along him, Mallow, and Shallot to solve various problems and issues. He would mostly think of a smarter idea compared to Shallot.
  • Friendly Rivalry: With Clover.
  • Hot-Blooded: He gets very passionate with it comes to sports actives and going on adventures.
  • Pride: Kale is fond of boasting when it comes to winning races and sports events against Clover. He doesn't take losing to her very well at times.
  • I Was Beaten by a Girl: How Kale deals with losing to Clover in one story in volume 4.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold:
    • While Kale can leave rude comments and act mischievous. He really cares for his friends and family.
    • Despite being curious about Santa Claus and later seen tearing the letters that his baby brothers written to Santa in the story. He still decides to chime in on giving the Christmas present to his brothers.
  • Middle Child Syndrome: In a flashback story in Volume 4, a young Kale starts out looking forward to the birth of The Sextuplets after his parents break the news of his mother's pregnancy. However, he gets upset fearing his parents won't pay attention to him anymore. That mindset is quickly gone after he see's his baby brothers for the first time.
  • The Lancer: He would mostly lead the "Bunny Express" (Mailing Service in Crescent Forest) besides Clover.
  • Oblivious to Love: Mr. Mole's daughter and Forsynthia developed a short lived crush with Kale in one story. But Kale is unaware of this and this trope returns again in Volume 4 when a bunny named Thistle starts developing a crush in him. He doesn't know about this but appears to start loving her when he describes about her when Hus friends arrive.
  • Papa Wolf: While not a father, he really doesn't take it kindly if you make fun or terrorize his baby brothers.
  • Red Oni: To Shallot's blue.
  • The Rival: To Clover, especially when it comes to challenging each other.
  • Sweet on Polly Oliver: After Kale learns that Thistle was pretending to be a boy the entire time. A day later Clover and Mallow show up to ask him about the female bunny that showed up. As Kale starts describing her and talking about what they did except mentioning that she pretended to be a boy. He starts blushing and starts developing a crush on her.
  • The Un-Favorite: When Kale learns that his mother is pregnant when he was young. He starts out excited, but learning the responsibility of being a big brother makes him think that his parents won't pay attention to him anymore. This changed when he finally got to see his little newborn brothers in the end.

    Shallot (Haru)

An extremely smart rabbit who loves reading books. He has a secret crush on Mallow and later marries her in the end of the final manga.


  • Babies Ever After: In the epilogue, he and Mallow are married and have two children, whom look exactly like their parents.
  • Blue Oni: To Kale's red.
  • Bookworm: He really loves reading books!
  • Cannot Spit It Out: He first attempted to tell Mallow that he likes her in the first volume but it didn't work out well. It finally worked in the final volume! in the story "Mallow's Heart Flutters".
  • Crush Blush: Whenever he sees Mallow when Kale and Clover aren't around.
  • Cute Bookworm: He really loves reading books and also acts pretty cute whenever he gets very shy around Mallow or very happy.
  • Defrosting Ice King: Shallot preferred reading books instead of hanging out with the other animals as a young bunny and doesn't get along with Clover and Kale at first. Until he realizes that he might have made Clover cry after remembering the sad faces he made them look after snapping at the two after getting berry juice smeared on his book and learning it wasn't that bad.
  • The Drag-Along: He along with Mallow and Kale would get dragged along by Clover. However, he knows right from wrong depending on the situation and rarely gets into big trouble. He even close attention in class compared to Clover and sometimes Kale.
  • Fainting: Shallot passes out in one story in Volume 5, after Mallow hugs him after she learns that he really likes her.
  • Foil: To Clover and Kale in most of there adventures with each other.
  • Love Confession: Accidentally does this in Volume 5 with Mallow in the story "Mallow's Heart Flutters".
  • Luminescent Blush: Starts blushing in Volume 5, after he accidentally reveals to Mallow that he has a crush on her and tries to rephrase that statement until Mallow hugs him.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: In the story of how he first meet Clover and Shallot in volume 2 which is told through his point of view after viewing his photo album.. He snaps at the two since they stained Shallot's book and goes home. However he later checks out the condition of it and realizes that the stain wasn't that bad and remembers the look on Clover's face who appears to be crying. He later starts feeling guilty for his actions and decides to become friends with them right after he protects them from Cinnamon and Twirl. Keep in mind, Clover and Kale were younger and didn't know how to defend themselves so Shallot stuck up and accepted there challenge.
  • Relation Ship Upgrade: With Mallow after he accidentally reveals that he likes her.
  • Scary Shiny Glasses: This shows up in both the anime and manga mostly to show that Shallot is being serious. This is actually played straight in the story of how he meet Kale and Clover when they stain his book with berry juice.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: This runs in the family. In a flashback story to Shallot's younger years and how he first meet Clover and Kale. Cinnamon and Twirl called him 4 eyes as they were making fun of Clover and Kale much to angering Shallot.
  • That Came Out Wrong: After he tells Mallow about the reason why he was getting the medicine for her. He gets nervous and accidentally reveals that he likes Mallow but quickly tries rephrasing what he said until Mallow gives him a big hug in bed which causes him to faint.
  • Uncanny Family Resemblance: All of his family members look alike.
  • Unusual Eyebrows: His eyebrows look pretty different compared to the other animals. Turns out that his entire family shares the same eyebrow shape and look.

Secondary characters

    Rambler/Brambler (Tabi-Usagi-San)

An adult rabbit who travels around the world and would visit Crescent Forest on special occasions. He is later revealed to be homeless once he mentions that his home got destroyed and his family and friends are implied to be dead.


  • Bindle Stick: Always seen carrying this and can be used to store food and can be used as a weapon.
  • The Casanova: In his first performance in Crescent Forest and the first time Clover ever seen Rambler. He is seen flirting with other females animals.
  • Chick Magnet: With the other female animals, especially from female rabbits.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: While Rambler is mostly very clam and smart. He lost his forest and family due to a forest fire caused by a humans. He tells this to Clover in the later volumes.
  • The Drifter: Rambler would mostly visit Crescent Forest during special occasions. Since Rambler mainly travels and makes a stop at a faraway forest and leaves the next morning. This is shown off in the last story of volume 3, where it focuses on one of Rambler's adventures.
  • Harp of Femininity: A rare male example since he is seen carrying one but later gives it to Clover for her to practice.
  • Manchild: Inverted, while Rambler is mostly smart, brave, and very serious. Clover mentions that he acts "immature" which Rambler reacts in confusion which cuts to various moments where Rambler is acting childish compared to his usual self.
  • Manly Tears: Seen in the 4th and 5th volumes when it comes to his memories of his old home and parents. And when Clover doesn't turn back to normal after becoming a fish from a magic stone.
  • Meaningful Name: Rambler The Rambling Rabbits name is exactly what you would expect him to be. His Japanese name "Tabi-usag-san" also means "Traveling Rabbit".
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: He usually doesn't cry most of the time (At least in public) however he does start crying When he discovers that Clover (In fish forum) can't communicate and feels that he lost her forever.
  • Pretty Boy: He is stated by the other animals that female animals are swooning over him. Especially the female bunnies.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Due to constantly traveling and his fondness of visiting different forests. Rambler serves as the wisest and most intelligent character in the series. He serves as the biggest source of inspiration and advice to Clover after learning that she dreams to travel with him.
  • The Reveal: In volume 5, Rambler reveals to Clover that his real name is "Brambler" and tells her not to reveal this secret to anyone else besides him and her.
  • Righteous Rabbit: The most heroic character of the series.
  • Swiss-Army Tears: In the final story, his tears revives Clover from a fish back into a bunny.
  • Trauma Button: As revealed in the volume 5 story "Rambler Takes Cover From The Rain", Rambler has a very hard time sleeping inside Clover's house due to gaining back horrible memories of his former home and being reminded about his destroyed home and family.
  • Troubled Backstory Flashback: Rambler mentions that his home is destroyed in volume 1 which shows tree stumps of where he used to live.
    • When Clover hears Rambler crying the next morning. He explains about why he refuses to sleep inside Clover's home. The manga shows happy flashbacks to Rambler's former home which is now gone and his mother who is implied to have died as the home he lived at got destroyed.
  • Walking the Earth: Rambler travels far away from Crescent Forest to make a short stop as well as rescuing and saving lives of various animals that live there.

    Hickory (Hirari)

A Japanese flying squirrel and Clover's babysitter and Next-door Neighbor (He lives on top of Clover's home). Hickory is calm,cool, and very nice to everyone around him. He doesn't speak very often but is always concerned with Clover's problems. He's scared of spiders!


  • Accidental Marriage: One story in the later volumes feature a group of flying squirrel who appears to kidnap Hickory according to Clover. In actuality, they were looking for an animal to marry Hickory. They think Clover and Hickory are a married couple including the leader of the bunch.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: When Clover is ranting about how much she hates Rambler near the last two stories of Volume 5 between and Hickory. He asks her "Do You Really Hate Him?" and starts having a short speech about how much he cares about her.
  • Badly Battered Baby Sitter: While not badly, Hickory The Flying Squirrel is very small compared to Clover's parents who hired him to watch over her back when she was a baby. The result is Clover literally trying to fly like him, despite the fact that flying squirrels can only glide and not fly. However, Hickory usually ignores that and really cares about her.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: At least according to Clover whenever she sees him around and does some odd things.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: Happens in the volume 5 story "A Charm For A Perfect Score" where Clover switches bodies with Hickory. She learns that being a flying squirrel isn't all that easy while Hickory can do work much faster which scares Clover's parents.
  • Nice Guy: A very caring friend and neighbor to Clover.
  • Older Than They Look: Hickory is really an adult just like the other animals but this can be difficult to remember due to him having a cute sounding voice.
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: This is even carried over to Clover's body when they body swap in "A Charm For A Perfect Score" in Volume 5.
  • The Quiet One: While Hickory is not shy, he doesn't really talk that much besides having a short conversation with Clover. He does become more vocal in later stories.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: One of the cutest looking characters in the manga/anime. This is followed by his twin-brother seen in the later stories and the other flying squirrels.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Hickory serves as the best source of reason to Clover and her friends. When Clover ends up in a bad situation, he always gives her some helpful advice and to calm her down when she gets very emotional at times.
  • Team Dad: He along with Rambler serve as the voice of reason with the characters.
  • Watching the Sunset: A non-romantic example, Hickory and Clover both promised each other to watch the sunset with each other every night. This is the ending for one of the last stories in volume 1 after Hickory remembers his early years of babysitting Clover.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: He's scared of spiders and anything else doesn't which became a plot point in volume 2.
  • Vague Age: It can be difficult to tell what age Hickory is. While he is an adult, most people would confuse him as an child due to his cute appearance and his voice.
  • Vocal Dissonance: While his voice does match his appearance in the anime/manga. It can be pretty easy to forget that Hickory is an adult.

    Professor Hoot (Hohho)

Crescent Forest's teacher and doctor.


  • Big Ol' Eyebrows
  • Flat "What": Says this in one story in volume 2 after he learns that Rambler is going to teach class for the day and holds a field trip.
  • Gratuitous English: He says "Yo" when he cuts of the Bulbul Brothers rap number in the anime.
  • The Medic: He was the only doctor in Crescent Forest that would care for animals in pain. Until Mallow wanted to be a nurse which according to him. Makes his job more easier and helpful.
  • Ominous Owl: While not creepy, he does come across as unnerving a few times in the anime and manga. Mostly when he starts scolding students inside and outside of his class.
  • The Owl-Knowing One: One of the more intelligent characters in the series along with Rambler and Hickory. He even owns an entire book shelf of old and new books one containing the story of Santa Claus (Which he only allows for grown ups to read).
  • Perpetual Frowner: He doesn't smile that often unless he gets very impressed or surprised.
  • Stern Teacher: He's take his doctor and teaching skills very seriously. He would usually peak Clover for being late to school. This was changed to pulling her cheek in the anime.
  • Verbal Tic: Ends all of his sentences with the word "hoot".

Minor characters

    Cinnamon and Twirl (Charaku & Kururi)

A duo of naughty pranksters who love messing with Clover and friends. Cinnamon is a fox while Twirl is a squirrel. Cinnamon also has a sister as revealed in volume 3.


  • Abhorrent Admirer: Twirl has a secret crush on Mallow. While she doesn't find him disgusting, she still views him as a kind person despite how much trouble he causes her and friends. He even started his own fan club dedicated to Mallow.
  • Crying Wolf: In the anime, Twirl and Cinnamon are telling the citizens of Crescent Forest that they seen a wolf. The citizens don't listen due to the duo's constant tricks and lies. Near the end of the episode, a wolf shows up for real and it is revealed that Kale's baby brothers were taking care of him.
  • Cunning Like a Fox: Cinnamon always finds great ways of messing with the forest animals. He even makes up stories to scare some of the animals.
  • Enemy Mine: While not evil, Cinnamon teams up with Rambler and Clover to save Crescent Forest from a forest fire.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While Twirl is mischievous and easily loses his temper when their tricks go wrong. When learning that Mallow injured her foot after sliding down a hill. He secretly pays a visit to her house to give her a Get Well Gift. Even if he enjoys playing pranks, he has strong feelings for her.
  • The Napoleon: Twirl is one of the smallest characters in the series next to Hickory and a female field mouse Clover and friends meet in the later volumes. But that doesn't stop him from losing his temper when some of his tricks backfires.
  • The Prankster: Twirl is the most mischievous character in the story by playing tricks with the other animals and pranking them.
  • Smug Snake: Cinnamon's default expression.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Twirl openly has a secret crush on Mallow, which remained unnoticed by Clover and friends.
  • Those Two Guys: With Twirl.

A lovely couple of bunnies who are the mother and father of Clover. Her father wants to be an alchemist and interested in science while her mother is pretty strict with Clover.
  • Papa Wolf: Clover's father shows this in Volume 3 to protect Clover from an oncoming falling tree after it got struck by lightning.
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: At least according to Clover.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: It's pretty common for stuff to explode whenever Clover's father is working downstairs.
