     Banga Miners

Lisa

Voiced by: Michiko Kaiden

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lisa_026.png
Leader of the Banga Miners and a descendant of the Lhao Clan. A hard driving boss who expects everyone to do their share and pair their debts. Seems tough on the outside but cares deeply for her people on the inside.
  • Big Damn Heroes: How we're introduced to her, along with some other examples.
    • Lisa comes in to save Syd and a depowered Kat from a gravity storm during the tutorial chapter.
    • Pulls another one later when she shows up with the Banga fleet in Hekseville to help Kat and Raven stop Brahman.
    • And one more to help Kat defeat the Darkness.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Tends to hit the rot-gut when things don't go too well.
  • Good Is Not Nice: She's a Mean Boss who won't hesitate to withhold food from anyone who isn't pulling their weight in Banga, she'll frequently leave people to their doomed fates, and she's a cold and cynical person in general. This is all in large part because Lisa is always looking at bigger picture, first for the Banga Miners and eventually for the whole city, and has to make choices that are hard but pragmatic.
  • Important Haircut: Gets one when she decides that enough is enough and that it's time to take back the city of Jirga Para Lhao.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She is a Mean Boss at first, but inside she a friendly woman.
  • Team Mom: To the Banga Miners. She may be cold, but she clearly cares deeply about all of them.
  • Troubled, but Cute: She is certainly bossy and bitter sometimes, but at least she looks quite attractive.

Cecie/Durga

Voiced by: Risa Shimuzi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cecie.png
Click here to see her as Durga Angel

Lisa's adopted daughter. She fell from a gravity storm years ago and was adopted by Lisa. A shy quiet girl, she spends most of her time looking after her doll, the only thing she had with her when she fell from the storm. She happens to be compatible with the powers of Durga Angel, allowing her to manifest through her.

  • Badass Adorable: Once she turns into Durga. And especially when she masters the form, keeping the powers but retaining her sweet personality.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Her forgetfulness and penchant for daydreaming often result in the livestock, which she's supposed to take care off getting away.
  • The Cutie: She is a sweetheart and very innocent, heck, she's like a clone of Kat.
  • Happily Adopted: Lisa's a stern parent towards her, but she's still thankful to the woman for taking her in.
  • Light Is Not Good: Zigzagged. As Durga, Cecie's Ax-Crazy and Brainwashed and Crazy into working for Brahman to freeze time in Hekesville. Becomes a subversion once Cecie gains control over her Durga form.
  • Mysterious Waif: She appeared in a gravity storm with no memory of her past, and has been in Lisa's custody ever since. It turns out she's Kali's sister, and is a suitable vessel for Durga Angel.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: When she transforms into Durga Angel, she's violent, insane, and perfectly willing to freeze Hekseville in time with her sister.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Combined with a Big Damn Heroes moment, she learns to control her Durga Angel form and uses it to help save Kat in the final chapter.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Cecie tries hard to impress her adoptive mother, who's just as aloof to her as she is to everyone else. For her part, Lisa does love Cecie, but her hardened personality makes it hard for her to ever show warmth.

Misai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/misai.png
The best miner among the Banga. Is initially cold towards Kat and doesn't believe her stories about being able to control gravity.

     Sun Shipping

Vogo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vogo.png
Sleazy shipping magnate who's not above using a few underhanded tricks to get things to go his way. Starts out as the main customer who buys the gems the Banga mine.
  • Changed My Mind, Kid: As the situation in Jirga Para Lhao deteriorates, he decides it's best to just cut his losses and run. It doesn't take long for guilt to urge him to go back and lend some much-needed assistance to the heroes.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: He enacts some pretty harsh conditions on the Banga miners to cheat them out of payment for their ore, and attempts to rig a wager with them to claim complete ownership of their fleet.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: During a conversation with Kat and Raven, Vogo's eyes are focused on before the following panel-shot is conveniently aimed at both girls' bodies and nothing else.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Starts out antagonistic to the Banga, and later on to the rebels, but eventually helps them out.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Averted, when he rams his ship into the Bismalia to help the Kat and her friends, they think that he's bought the farm. Turns out, he survived and was hanging off the edge of the Bismalia.
  • Starter Villain: He serves as the main antagonist for the first chapter of the game. After that, he becomes more of a Wild Card.
  • Sworn Brothers: He branded himself and Fi to mark that despite the latter being adopted he is as much of a Sun as him.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He doesn't wear a shirt underneath that coat of his.

Fi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fi_1.png
Vogo's adopted brother. Fi and his family were taken in by the Sun family when he was just a child. Formed a bond with Sun heir Vogo who later branded both of them to symbolize their brotherhood. Is actually a descendant of Lhao Tribe warriors something which he's proud of.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: A familial example. As much he may act apathetic to Vogo, it's clear he cares deeply for his adoptive brother as seen by his reaction when Vogo nearly dies ramming the Bismalia.
  • Badass Normal: Doesn't have any gravity shifting powers, only fighting skill he's learned as part of his heritage, but is able to keep up with Kat and Raven when it counts.
  • The Brute or The Big Guy: Fills this role for Vogo. His bio states that he regularly intimidates those who resist Vogo's demands, and he doesn't hesitate to attack Kat on Vogo's order during their first encounter.
  • Code of Honour: Subscribes to that of the Lhao Tribe warriors, something which sometimes annoys Vogo as it prevents him form pulling of some of his more unscrupulous plans.
  • Morality Pet: Likely the only person who Vogo loves and the one most capable of steering him closer to altruism.
  • Noble Top Enforcer: To Vogo, the miners actually likes him and think he would make a better boss than his brother.
  • Sarcastic Devotee: Has a few of these moments to Vogo.

     Other Characters

Jirga Para

Jirga Para Lhao council

The ruling council of the city of Jirga Para Lhao. They generally care only for themselves and the profits they can make from the crystal trade, and aren't above forcefully putting their own citizenry to work in the mines.

  • Big Bad Wannabe: They certainly play the role until the Nevi make an appearance and quickly obliterate them with no warning.
  • Corrupt Politician
  • Death from Above: Just when they were preparing for the "eventuality" of Lisa's failed leadership to take back their rule, the Nevi showed up and obliterated their entire island with a living city.
  • Hate Sink: They exist solely to be dicks to our heroines and essentially make life miserable for anyone who isn't rich.

Hekseville

Dr. Brahman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dr_brahman.png
A hard working man Kat meets in Hekseville. Philosophical and prone to losing himself in the past, he uses his one very rare time off from work to reminisce the earlier days spent with his daughter. He's also the man behind the new Preservation System in Hekseville and is the new mayor.
  • And I Must Scream: He accidentally trapped his daughter in a frozen time state in an attempt to save her life. He describes her state as "a second for her is a thousand years for us".
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Kat spends quite a bit of time with him and indulges him in his wants and needs, so he pays her back by setting up a citizenship and returning her home to pristine condition. Though this appears to have been his attempt to appear sympathetic in hopes he could convince her to join his cause.
  • Big Good: Except he isn't.
  • Heel Realization: As he lays dying from being impaled, he realizes time exists for a reason and acknowledges things could only have ended the way they did.
  • High-Class Glass: He wears a monocle. Strangely, Kat describes him as wearing glasses, which ends up leading her down the wrong track while trying to find him.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: His ultimate fate after the battle with Kali Angel.
  • Mad Scientist: He believes time is a merciless force and wishes to preserve all things by freezing time.
  • My Greatest Failure: Spending more time on work than with his daughter has resulted in him becoming a Stepford Smiler, and is often found lost in his memories.
    • He then tried to save her by putting the disease in a frozen time state. Only he ended up putting her entire body in one.
  • Parental Neglect: Not that he meant to be, but he didn't quite realise it before his daughter was took sick to even leave her room.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He's very rewarding to those who serve him and the city well, and equally forgiving to those who make mistakes.
  • Stepford Smiler: He smiles a lot, but Kat notes he always seems very sad.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Regarded very highly by the public as the first mayor since D'nelica to retain office long-term, thanks to his affable personality and inventions.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He wants to preserve all beauty in the same time-rift state he accidentally froze his daughter in.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: He deeply regrets not spending enough time with his daughter before she fell ill.
  • You Have Failed Me: When Adicca refuses to take part in his crazy scheme, Brahman is quick to dispose of him.
    • Then when Kat refuses to go along with his madness, she's framed for Addica's murder and brands her a wanted fugitive.

Kali Angel

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kali_angel.png
A new heroine of Hekseville after Kat disappeared for three years and the mayor's daughter. Actually one of the kidnapped orphans who was experimented on by Brahman alongside her sister.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: After turning into a terrifying monstrosity and getting wiped out, Kat acknowledges that she is as much of a victim of Brahman's insanity as anyone else.
  • Badass Adorable: There's no doubt that she is an another cute girl with super powers.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She may be the beloved hero of Hekseville, but towards Kat, she's arrogant and condescending. And she's also in on a scheme to freeze the city in time forever.
  • Blob Monster: She mutates into one in Chapter 20.
  • Body Horror: Transforms into a humanoid monstrosity in Episode 20.
  • Dead Hat Shot: After the mutated Kali is killed, her mask is seen floating on the wind.
  • Domino Mask: Wears it as part of her getup.
  • The Dragon: To Brahman.
  • Go for the Eye: The fight with her monstrous form involves attacking her many eyes.
  • In a Single Bound: She does a lot of leaping from rooftop to rooftop, similar to what Kat can do in Lunar Style.
  • Light Is Not Good: She has an angel motif, dresses in all white, and is introduced as the new hero of the town. Her true intentions are anything but good.
  • Lovecraftian Superpower: Upon going One-Winged Angel . Which is to say, she is a disgusting, gaint amalgation of faces, limbs and strange, pulsating tumor-like appendages.
  • Nominal Hero: She comes across as the perfect hero to the citizens, but Kat's the first to notice she's not all she claims to be.
  • One W Inged Angel: Transforms in a massive monstrosity after her sister starts turning into Cecie again.
  • Power Incontinence: This is what causes her mutation, as she forces the experimentations Dr Brahman has performed on her body into overdrive.
  • Smug Super: She loves to rub her superiority in Kat's face and always talks down to her.

     Main Game Spoilers

Eto

Cai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cai.png
The King of Eto, after Queen Alua went missing one hundred years ago.
  • A Child Shall Lead Them: The latest ruler of the city, despite his age.
  • Adorably Precocious Child: He's very young, but accepts his responsibilities as King of Eto with full gusto. Subverted in that he has a very childish sense of entitlement in thinking he fully deserves to make whatever world he wants over the corpses of everyone below his city.
  • Enfant Terrible: He sees absolutely nothing wrong with killing countless people just so he can remake the world in his image.
  • Knight of Cerebus: The story takes a very dark turn once he enters the picture.
  • Oh, Crap!: When he's about to be consumed by the Final Boss.
  • Sequel Hook: During the epilogue, Chaz reveals that Cai was taken into custody after the final fight. However, he disappeared immediately after.
  • Utopia Justifies the Means: Decides to wipe out the people below Eto as part of his plan to make a better world.
  • Villainous Breakdown: He throws a temper tantrum after Kat defeats Elektricitie, going into a Motive Rant explaining why the weak should die. Kat has enough of this and slaps his across the ground.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's difficult to discuss him without spoiling the game's final chapter.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: How else would you describe someone with such snowy hair and genocidal intentions?

Xicero

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/xicero.png
Xicero is the Senate Chancellor of Eto and the main cause of Queen Alua going missing for a hundred years.
  • The Atoner: Regarding his actions 100 years ago.
  • My Greatest Failure: He perceived Alua's actions regarding the people below Eto as dangerous and tried assassinating her. Not only did this result in Syd's death but Alua's absence also allowed Cai to come to power.
  • Redemption Equals Death: He reconciles with Syd and tries working with him against Cai. When that fails, in his dying breath, he begs Kat stop him.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He doesn't have much screen time before he's killed by Cai but he's the main cause of Queen Alua AKA Kat going missing for a hundred years which had a major impact on the series.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: He doesn't have much screen time before he's killed by Cai. About all we learn about him is that he tried to assassinate Alua and eventually came to regret it. How he transitioned from one point of view to the other is a mystery.
  • We Used to Be Friends: With Syd.

Shining Girl/Elektricitie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elektricitie.png
A powerful, crazed spirit the people of Eto sealed within the Crystal Palace.
  • Battle Theme Music: Fundamental Forces, which references the battle between the powers of Electricity and Gravity.
  • Light Is Not Good: She looks like she's made out of light, but she's an insane entity whose only motivation is to simply destroy everything around her.
  • Me's a Crowd: During her fight, she makes multiple copies of herself.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: The people of Eto sealed her out of fear. Once Cai lets her loose in the final chapter, she doesn't hesitate to decimate Hekesville.
  • Shock and Awe: If her Punny Name didn't clue you in, etricity is what she's all about.

The Destructive Force

The Darkness

Spoilers
The entity that is from the bottom of the world.
  • Allegorical Character: Of Ecological Disaster. It manifests as a black hole that is slowly destroying the world, ruining the lives of those who are at the bottom of humanity's social hierarchy (which is made literal in these games), with people higher on the (literal) totem pole apathetic to the danger. People at the very top — like Cai and the rest of Eto's aristocracy — even go so far as dismissing those less fortunate than them as already lost, ready to make the world better with the riff-raff gone, arrogant in assuming that their descendants will know what to do and they'll sit back and wait it out until then.
  • Big Bad: The ultimate evil behind the series.
  • Eldritch Abomination: The Darkness, essentially a nigh-unstoppable avatar of destruction and negativity. It possesses Cai and his guardian and then transforms into what can only be called a demon, through and through: a gigantic winged beast with a head that seems a fusion between a dragon and a stag, with multiple regenerating eyes everywhere, and the ability to steal all of Kat's powers bit by bit while No-Sell practically everything our heroes can throw at it. And this thing's endgame was the obliteration of everything!
  • The Corrupter: It corrupted Cai, convincing him to destroy the world and it would have done the same to Kat had the people of Hekseville not stepped in.
  • Giant Space Flea from Nowhere: While the black hole swallowing the World Pillar has been an omnipresent threat for the whole series, it is not until The Darkness appears do we find out that it can think, has an agenda and has been conspiring in Eto.
  • The Man Behind the Man: It was the one who gave King Cai the idea to destroy the world and remake it into a better world, as he sees it.
  • Power of the Void: It's the Anthropomorphic Personification of the Black Hole that is slowly destroying the World Pillar. Its attacks include a Breath Weapon, summoning Spheres of Destruction and destroying each of Kat's powers until she is rendered powerless.
  • Satanic Archetype: It's a massive monstrous beast with an overtly demonic appearance, with giant leathery wings, massive antlers and is seen only from the waist down similar to how Satan appeared in The Divine Comedy. It desires nothing more than the total destruction of the world and everyone in it, claiming that it's one desire is to replace it with a new reality in its own image. It has a tendency to corrupt others into furthering its own agenda, unable to do so with Kat because of her Incorruptible Pure Pureness.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's difficult to discuss it without spoiling the game's final chapter.
