The Cures and Their Allies
Pretty Cure and Allies
Alana Fuki/Cure Sweet
The first Pretty Cure in the season, and the main character. To her friends, she's seemingly good at everything, though this isn't true.
- Dub Name Change: Played with. The hypothetical English dub does change her nickname to Laney, but her real name is kept as Alana.
- The Ace: Can sing so well she made it in to an all-state honor choir twice, can bake many desserts from scratch, is very pretty, has great grades in all of her classes and is incredibly sweet.
- Madoka has a secret hatred of her for this, and Douleur cites it as one of the reasons why Desire was able to be corrupted.
- My God, What Have I Done?: When she learns about the secret jealousy that corrupted Madoka
- Jack of All Trades
- Madoka has a secret hatred of her for this, and Douleur cites it as one of the reasons why Desire was able to be corrupted.

- The Heart: Has control over the power of love, as well as probably the kindest on the team.
- The Leader: The main character of the season, and the pink cure, so of course she's the de-facto leader of the team.
- Nice Girl: Even more so than the other members of the team.
- Oblivious to Hints: While they fight each other for the first time, She ignores the fact that Dark Desire looks a lot like Madoka, still being surprised when it's revealed.
- Pink Means Feminine: The pink Pretty Cure, who loves to bake sweets and sing. The fact that she's proven good at both only emphasizes this.
- Rose-Haired Sweetie: In Cure form her hair styles into a long pink ponytail, and she gains the power of Heart. As her Cure name suggests, she is also a very nice person.
- Innocent Blue Eyes: Has blue eyes in civillian form, and is considered the nicest cure on the team.
- Wide-Eyed Idealist: In Episode 5, after she returns from fighting Dark Desire for the first time, she says that even though Desire has been taken by the Negative, she's still a Pretty Cure, so she's still a friend in Alana's eyes.
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: Is the girly girl to Kaede's tomboy.
- Cool Big Sis: To her two younger twin sisters, Eri and Chihaya. In fact, the first interaction she's seen having with them is in Episode 1, when she's breaking up a disagreement between them.
- All-Loving Hero: Even after Dark Desire had caused her all the emotional turmoil she went through, Alana was more than willing to fight along side her instead of pushing her away.
- Beware the Nice Ones: In Episode 6, after she finds out that Bobble's been keeping a very important secret from her, she gives him an evil eye strong enough to scare him into telling the truth.
- Jack of All Trades: She knows how to bake, sing, play the piano, public speak....
- The Power of Love: She controls love and hearts in Pretty Cure form.

- Cloudcuckoolander
- Huge Schoolgirl: Noticeably taller than anyone else on the team.
- Oblivious to Hints: It takes her a while to get jokes and catch on to conversations.
- Obsessed with Food: Justified. She is an athlete who plays several sports, and therefore needs all the calories she can get.

- The Perfectionist: When it comes to her grades.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Is the blue to Kaede's red.
- Resigned to the Call: Especially apparent in her debut episode. She doesn't want to believe that there's a small talking alien right in front of her who's telling her to become a magical warrior in order to protect the magic of friendship, but soon realizes she has no choice.
- Time Master: Has power over time in addition to wisdom.
- Ojou Ringlets: Develops these in Cure Form. Surprisingly, though, she isn't an Ojou.
- Badass Bookworm: Is one of the smartest girls in her grade, who also has the power to control time.
- Meaningful Name: The combination kanji in her first name translates to excellent widsdom, relating to her alter ego being Cure Wisdom.
- The B Grade: She's the most like this out of the cures even getting upset over a 98% on one occasion.
- Good with Numbers: In her first appearance, she's seen practically tutoring Alana while they're in math class.
- Team Mom: Is the most comforting and helpful of the team.
Shion Tsubasa/Cure Laugh
The fourth Cure. Unlike her friends, she doesn't have a defined passion or any ideas about what she wants to do in life, which causes her to self-depreciate a lot. She has an orange theme color and controls the power of laughter.- Dub Name Change: Her name is now Sarah.
- Dark Is Not Evil: Has dark hair in civilian form, and likes to wear darker clothing, but she's just as nice as the other Pretty Cure in her group.
- Deadpan Snarker: Her second favorite form of humor.
- Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Feels bad that many of her friends have already decided on a path, when she hasn't.
- Heroic Self-Deprecation: Her favorite form of humor. Ironic in the fact that her friends don't find her self put-downs funny in the slightest.
- Morning Routine: A special part of Shion's is when she meets up with some of her friends before the bell rings, and they talk and joke with each other.
- Sad Clown: Not in the literal sense, but she does crack jokes despite her below-average self-esteem.
- Goal in Life: A major point in her character is that she doesn't have one.
- The Everyman: Thinks she's this compared to the other Pretty Cure (her actual ability is making people smile); Alana and Madoka have their music, Kaede has her sports, Chika has her smarts.
- Lesser Star
- Redheads Are Uncool: Becomes a ginger in cure form and is the only one of the Cures that don't have a defining talent.
- The Woobie: She constantly looks down on herself and uses self-deprecating humor; She thinks she's a horrible choice to become a Pretty Cure, because she doesn't have any idea what her biggest dream in life is.
Madoka Nomi/Cure Desire
- Dub Name Change: Her name is now Madison, with her alter-ego being Glitter Wish.
- Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Played with. She's actually the shortest member of the team, but does have the signature long brunette hair and serious personality.
- Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Though it appears to be mostly ice, it turns to sugar when she's in public, and especially when she's on stage. This isn't to say she's wearing a Mask of Sanity however; When she's not performing, she's quite shy and fragile.
- Always Second Best: Seems to be this to Alana; Most of the time though, she doesn't even believe she's second best, usually putting herself at an absurdly low ranking.
- Asperger Syndrome: Madoka is explicitly stated to be autistic.
- Despair Event Horizon: Is already halfway there at the beginning of the series due to her uncle's death, but crosses it officially when she has a panic attack during an important audition. When she receives the official results afterwards, gets corrupted, turning into Dark Desire
- FaceāHeel Turn: Downplayed. Madoka was intended to be a Pretty Cure from the beginning, however she was corrupted by The Negative before Bobble and the others could reach out to her.
- Graceful Ladies Like Purple: Elegant, and is the purple-themed cure.
- Lunacy: Has moonlight-based powers in Cure form.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Played for Drama. Usually, she is one of the most dedicated and passionate people in her choir. Because of the Negative's brainwashing, however, she's constantly on the verge of quitting.
- The Perfectionist: She believes she has to pass every audition, and can never settle for second place at competitions, just to be worthy of anyone's respect or love. Luckily, at least the biggest reason she's like this, her father, doesn't see it this way, as is always proud of her if she tries her best.
- The Resenter: To Alana. This is the main reason behind Madoka's jealousy.
- Stepford Smiler: For a brief span of time in between the beginning of the series and her corruption she's this.
- Walking Spoiler: For the first half of the season. That being said, all spoilers are still marked here.
- "Well Done, Son" Guy: Desperately wants her father to be proud of her and listen to her and her choir perform.
- The Woobie: The morning of the series, her uncle passes away, causing her to fall into a depression. A few episodes in, and her love of music betrays her at an audition, causing her to cross the Despair Event Horizon. On top of that, she desperately craves protection and affection and thinks that the only way to get it is to never fail her father.
- To top this all off, she was also born two months premature, causing her to have mild cerebral palsy, which makes her legs hurt like all get out if she uses too much stamina at once. This may not sound like a big deal, but considering her dream is to be a performer...
- Dark Feminine Light Feminine: The Dark to Alana's light.
- Sixth Ranger: She doesn't join the Pretty Cure officially until Episode 27.
- Despair Speech: She gives a rather eerie and monotone one at the end of Episode 6. "Desire's darkened in the moon's shadows...I am Dark Desire."
- Honor Before Reason: It doesn't matter if she's just gotten hurt or is sick or tired to the point of exaustion. If even the smallest part of her thinks she can, she will keep going.
- Not Good with Rejection: One of her most major character flaws. She failed an audition, which was the turning point that caused her corruption Not to mention she also has another breakdown when she gets rejected once more from another very important audition

- Expy Of the Queen from Futari wa Pretty Cure
- My Greatest Failure: Is rather distraught about the corruption of Desire.
- The High Queen: Being the queen of friendship, she's as about as kind and openhearted as it gets.
- A Mother to Her Men: While they don't fight in combat together, Harmonia is very motherly towards the Pretty Cure who defend her kingdom.
- Large and in Charge: Is this for the Pretty Cure side.
- Gentle Giant: She is the Queen of harmony and friendship, and is about 2 times taller than the Pretty Cure.
- Light Is Good: Has a faint glow around her, and has a light color scheme all around.

The Negative
The Negative
Enemie

- The Leader: The Charismatic type, but his followers are mostly there out of fear.
- Large and in Charge: By far the tallest member of the Negative
- Omnicidal Maniac: He wants to bring the Friendship Kingdom to ruins, and then rule over the remains. His idea of ruins doesn't include sparing whatever's living there.
- The Resenter: Of Queen Harmonia, due to her ability to be constantly happy and friendly to everyone she comes across; He figures that if he takes Desire and devastates the kingdom, he'll destroy that bond, thus majorly endangering the bonds of friendship elsewhere.
- Hope Crusher: Was this towards Madoka and his Master Plan was to be this for the entire Friendship Kingdom.
- Dark Is Evil: Is made up of black shadows, and wears a dark grey cloak.
- Killed Off for Real: In episode 18
- Would Hurt a Child: As seen in episode 16.
Douleur
- Antagonist Abilities: Mind Manipulation, Villain Teleportation, Master of Illusion
- Affably Evil: Calls Madoka/Desire by several pet names, and means each and every one of them. This, of course, leads to Foe Romance Subtext between them.
- Bilingual Bonus: Douleur means "to grieve" in French, relating to the fact that he first met Madoka after her uncle's death and started the plan from there.
- Even Evil Has Standards: During a conversation with Enemie, it's revealed that the kindness he showed towards Cure Desire was meant to be a facade according to Enemie's plan to break her even further, but that would be crossing the Moral Event Horizon.
- The Heavy: For much of the story, he is more focused on than his boss.
- The Dragon: To Enemie, which makes Envie jealous.
- Papa Wolf: Played with in the fact that he is absolutely not Dark Desire's father, but is the one who brought her to The Negative, the fact that he treats her like a daughter, and WILL protect her if she's ever injured in a battle with the Pretty Cure.
- The Corrupter: Using his Breaking Speech, he is the one who performs Madoka's More than Mind Control to turn her into Dark Desire
- Terms of Endangerment: Uses these all the time with Dark Desire as he knows she Desperately Craves Affection. His favorite seems to be darling.
Envie
- Antagonist Abilities: Summon Magic, Villain Teleportation, Attack Animal,Voluntary Shapeshifting
- Driven by Envy: Can magnify it and is constantly jealous of Douleur and Enemie for having more power than she does, and is also jealous of Madoka for pushing her into the background of The Negative.
- Fridge Logic: However, she was the one who manipulated Madoka'sjealousy enough so she could be corrupted by Douleur, so Madoka's whole corruption arc was actually her fault.
- Enemy Summoner: Is in charge of summoning and controlling many of the Monsters of the Week.
- Green-Eyed Monster: Has eerie green eyes, and is a villain that controls jealousy, so she hits all the marks for this trope.
- Lesser Star: For the most part, and she is usually operating behind the Monster of the Week. Of course, this is lampshaded eventually. However, she does eventually get A Day in the Limelight.
- Makeup Is Evil: Wears bright red lipstick and large amounts of green eyeliner, and is a villain.
- Lady of Black Magic: Can magnify jealousy enough to turn one of the warriors of friendship against their own, and is also quite mature.
Dark Desire
- Antagonist Abilities: Powers Do the Fighting,
- Blank Slate: Cannot usually show expression through her Mind-Control Eyes. Especially during her first true appearance in Episode 6.
- Desperately Craves Affection: Word of God, but it's said that the reason why Douleur uses so many pet names with her is that he knows she is this trope.
- Glowing Eyes of Doom: These are red when she goes into her complete form
- Metamorphosis: Not her herself, but her outfits; Her first outfit, when she is just under the influence of the Negative, is a faded and torn version of her Cure uniform, while the outfit she wears officially as Dark Desire is made up of mostly shades of grey.
- Never Be Hurt Again: The main reason she transformed into Dark Desire, after she had a panic attack during a bombed audition in Episode 6.
- Safety in Indifference: Douleur convinces her to live her life this way, transforming Madoka into the complete form of Dark Desire
- Walking Spoiler: As much so as her good counterpart. That being said, all of her spoilers are still marked here.
- Spoiled Brat: Thanks to the Negative's work on their Lotus-Eater Machine-style manor in the Winter's Forest, Dark Desire is used to getting every thing she wants without having to lift a finger. However thanks to their Bad Is Good mentality, she's expected to throw tantrums when she doesn't get her way.
- Helpless Good Side: Inverted. Dark Desire is actually Madoka's helpless evil side.
