Characters / Fairy Without Wings Sabertooth

Go To

The guild that dethrones Fairy Tail after the 7-year timeskip in canon. In this story, the first appearance of the guild is in X786, five years before Fairy Tail would confront them in the Grand Magic Games. For more information go here. Once again, only add tropes and characters if they don't apply to the characters' canon counterparts.

    In General
  • Took a Level in Badass: Sabertooth is much stronger come the time of the X791 Grand Magic Games. This is mostly due to the fact that they are under new management, which goes hand in hand with...
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Minerva aside, the rest of Sabertooth seems to have considerably lightened up all in part thanks to Suzaku getting rid of Jiemma.
    • Minerva has embraced this trope too as of chapter 168 and 169.

    Jiemma
Minerva's father and the guild master. In the story he is also Wizard Saint Number 10 in X786.

    Minerva Orlando
Sabertooth's strongest and Jiemma's right hand. Now she's Suzaku's.
  • Break the Haughty: Downplayed example. Minerva's metamorphosis to become a better person is preceded by her breaking down crying in front of Suzaku after he told her it was okay to stop acting like an arrogant Jerkass
  • Broken Ace: Adding to what's been established in canon Minerva seems to really hate the fact that she has to be strong all the time. Everyone in Sabertooth puts her on a pedestal and she feels she has to take their praise and run with it.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Has trouble speaking her true feelings towards Suzaku aloud.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: In chapter 234 she gains the ability to summon Karthus Pentalus, the War God of Death. Summoning him usually results in the death of the caster, but Karthus happens to have a soft spot for Minerva and gives her his power completely under her command, even christening her as the next War God of Death.
  • Freudian Excuse: Minerva and her brother were heavily abused and humiliated by their father and it's implied that their mother went against Jiemma and paid for it with her life. It's also implied that her death happened by Jiemma's hands, right in front of Minerva, scarring her for life. As a result, Minerva forced herself to behave arrogantly and perfectly out of fear that, even though her father is imprisoned, she was afraid he would return instantly and scold and shame her if she acted any differently. Fortunately, thanks to Suzaku it seems Minerva's past may finally be laid to rest.
  • Go Out with a Smile: Minerva dies after taking a savage blow from a demonized Jiemma, dying content that she would marry Suzaku and they would have a happy life.
  • Humanizing Tears: After Sting and Yukino lose to Natsu and Sting, Suzaku coaxes Minerva into having an absolute mental breakdown about how she'd been acting up to that point in order to make her a better person. Time will tell if it sticks or not.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: Thanks to her traumatic childhood, Minerva's always had a touch-and-go relationship with death to the point that the fourth strongest of them that is a literal Grim Reaper decides to bypass the forbidden nature of his summoning to turn Minerva into a War God of Death during her battle with Mirajane in the Guild War.
  • Number Two: Now that Suzaku is in charge of Sabertooth, Minerva is his go-to girl for anything he needs help with.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Played for laughs. See Took a Level in Kindness below.
  • Stepford Smiler: Minerva acts all proud and confident, but that's all it is, an act. The woman feels ostracized and alone because her guild puts her on such a pedestal that she feels she has to hide all of her misery so that they don't see the crying girl that she is inside.
    • she decides to drop the facade as of chapter 169.
  • The Mentor: Subverted. She offers to be this to Sting after the mess with Audrey, but Sting turns her down, saying he's going to follow his own path.
  • Pet the Dog: She's surprisingly much kinder around her younger brother Mace.
  • The Perfectionist: Deconstructed. See Freudian Excuse above.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Minerva returns to Sabertooth with a much better attitude, leaving her guild mates to wonder if she's still the same person.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Though "hero" might be pushing it considering her attitude. Nevertheless, Sting still punches her in the face for trying to hold Nippy hostage and insulting the honor of the dragons by saying if they're easy to kill they deserved to go extinct. Suzaku scolds her for it later.
  • Worthy Opponent: She considers this of Erza, Kagura and the stronger members of Phoenix Grave.

    Rufus Lore
A mage that always wears a masquerade mask. His magic is memory make.

    Sorano Aguira
Yukino's older sister and a former member of Oracion Seis. For more information go here and here. She joins Sabertooth when she's let out of prison during the events of the Rise to Power arc and cheers Yukino on when she sees she's competing.
  • Big Sister Instinct: The moment she realizes that Yukino is in trouble, she drops what she's doing and goes to assist in any way she can.
  • Covert Pervert: She owns a book with XXX in the cover hidden in her room, do the math.
  • Determinator: She refuses to go down even when Libra's gravity breaks her ankle and shin until she collapses, much to Yukino's distress.
  • Holy Hand Grenade: Her new magic is called Heavenly World and draws its inspiration from angels, gods and the heavens themselves in terms of attack names and abilities.
  • No-Sell: She has trained her mind to be resistant to telepathy and mind manipulation, as demonstrated in her fight against Leana.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Her relationship with Minerva eventually becomes this.
  • Walking Spoiler: Gee, it's almost like this character is shrouded in mystery or something.

    Sting Eucliffe
A light dragon slayer that was raised by the dragon Weisslogia.
  • Covert Pervert: Though how covert tends to depend on the situation. In one scene he gets his signals crossed when Minerva says she'll "join him", but she just meant that she agreed that a nap sounded like a good idea. Sting thought she meant something a little more intimate. In another scene though, he does directly ask for Selina's measurements, though she was somewhat offering.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Sting forgets to dodge when he bears witness to Leaf Valentine using Colossus of Rhodes.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When Sting knocks Audrey Belladona flat on her ass, Jiemma becomes intrigued by his sudden burst of anger and lets him speak his mind.
  • Relationship Upgrade: In chapter 220 he confesses his feelings for Yukino and now are dating.
  • Taking You with Me: His technique Sacrificial Nova requires him to use all of his magic as one giant bomb of light. He attempts this on Nirix, but it doesn't work.

    Yukino Aguira
Sorano's younger sister and a stellar spirit mage in her own right.
  • Eye Scream: Yukino loses one of her eyes from it getting kicked out during the battle with Seilah's retainers. Fortunately, we are not exposed to the exact moment Yukino loses said eye.
  • Heroic BSoD: Suffers one when Hibiki encloses her inside a box shaped barrier that reflects her attacks back at her and had stolen her keys on top of that. She feels like giving up. Then her sister starts cheering her on and Yukino gets right back up and kicks some ass.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: When her keys are stolen and she's boxed in—literally—by Hibiki Laertes during the Grand Magic Games, after bouncing back from her Heroic BSoD, Yukino concentrates and busts out a Hadoken, successfully using Kinetics Magic on the first try.
  • Rescue Romance: The main reason Yukino has a crush on Suzaku is because he helped out her and all of Sabertooth by getting rid of Jiemma.
  • Second Love: In chapter 220, after witnessing Suzaku and Minerva's Big Damn Kiss, she runs away heartbroken, only for Sting to confess his love for her. The two are now a couple.
  • Shrinking Violet: The frst two times we've seen Yukino she has been incredibly shy. First when she's trying to compliment Sting, who she's implied to possibly have a crush on. The second time is when she's intimidated trying to approach Suzaku knowing him as Councilor Kururugi, only to find out he's not that much older than her.
  • Take a Third Option: After witnessing Sorano injuring herself by witstanding Libra's magic, she chooses to sit out of the fighting between guilds, saying she doesn't care who's right or wrong anymore. Chandra respects her decision and allows her to leave with her unconscious sister.
  • Underdogs Never Lose: When faced with two mages, one of which took down Rufus and Orga by herself, Yukino's chances at winning the 3-vs-3 battle in the Grand Magic Games seem hopeless, but then she pulls Ophiuchus out and prevails.
