The main hero and Core Robot pilot, an Ordinary High-School Student who's sent to a parallel world where giant robots fight each other, and ends up surrounded by women.
  • Betty and Veronica: He has become the Archie to Mitsuki Rara's Betty and Mitsuki Sanada's Veronica. Once Mitsuki Rara came into the picture.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He rarely gets really angry, but when he does...
  • Butt-Monkey: Kazuki. He gets into situations that doesn't do him any good.
  • Disguised in Drag: Poor Kazuki has to dress in a pilot suit with fake breasts and ass to disguise the fact he's a man. Worse, the first time he's wearing it, Mitsuki Sanada is laughing uncontrollably for pretty much the entire scene. It doesn't help that the suit also changes his voice to the typical "high-pitched anime girl" kind of voice... and the change is an improvement in that it fit his personality better.
  • Expy: Of Shinji Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion, though only in appearance.

    Mitsuki Sanada

Mitsuki Sanada

Mitsuki is the popular girl, and daughter of Dr. Ken Sanada. She lures Kazuki to her house for her father's experiments, but is sent to the parallel world along with him.
  • Alpha Bitch: She becomes a Lovable Alpha Bitch in the last few episodes.
  • Betty and Veronica: She serves as the Veronica to Mitsuki Rara's Betty for Kazuki's Archie.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Near the end of the series, temporarily.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: She has a hard time admitting her feelings for Kazuki to herself, let alone telling him.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She hates it when Kazuki gives the other girls attention, Yayoi and Mitsuki Rara always bring out the worst in her.
  • Daddy's Girl: She utterly cares for her dad. Even calling out her mother for abandoning them.
  • Damsel in Distress: She was kidnapped by the Rara Army in the final episodes of series.
  • Defrosting the Ice Queen: When the pair return to their own world, she starts to defrost a little towards Kazuki and just hangs out with him like they're friends.
  • Dude Magnet: Very popular and young men constantly send her gifts and cards.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Due to her inability to tell Kazuki her feelings for him, she will get angry at him with another girl shows affection to him. She even got Yayoi into a marriage interview just so she wouldn't be an obstacle anymore. Despite all of this, she still does care about the people around her.
  • Mad Scientist's Beautiful Daughter: To the point of being the most popular girl in school in both realities.
  • Not Brainwashed: The second time Kazuki arrives in the parallel world, he quickly learns that Mitsuki Sanada was captured by the Rara Army, and is now piloting their super-mecha HIMC/Himiko. After defeating HIMC and trying to pull an "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight speech on her, the audience learns that Mitsuki wasn't actually brainwashed per se — Ayuko put her under a light form of hypnosis, and she came to her senses shortly after seeing Kazuki. Unfortunately the robot she is now trappped in reacts to her subconscious thoughts and attacks anyone who upsets her in any way, even if she didn't want to actually hurt them. Understandably, Mitsuki doesn't correct Kazuki's assumption.
  • Ordinary High-School Student: She was an average high school until she went to the other world alongside Kazuki.
  • School Idol: The most admired girl in Kazuki's school.
  • Team Chef: Usually cooks for her dad and Kazuki, though this job is later taken by Yayoi and Mitsuki Rara.
  • Tsundere: Mitsuki Sanada displays a lot of contempt for Kazuki, but also seems completely opposed to him having anything to do with any other girl. Initially her jealousy and irrational responses could give Akane Tendo a run for her money.
  • Virtuous Character Copy: She is a redeemed parody of Asuka Langley Soryu, the resident tsundere from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Unlike the the character she was based on, Mitsuki was a fairly stable highschooler.

    D

D

Voice Actors: Ai Uchikawa (Japanese), Sherry Lynn (English, as "Katie Ashley")

D is a bioroid, an artificially constructed being. The war between the Earth Defense Force and the Rara Army began when D and at least two mechas were discovered in an alien artifact.

She shows up in Tenchi Muyo GXP Paradise Starting.

  • Creepy Child: D makes Rei Ayanami look like a Genki Girl. Not only that, but her soul is constantly visible and shines brightly where her left eye should be. Granted that she becomes D because she's afraid of showing emotions. When she chooses to retake her real body, she's just as expressive as a normal girl.

Earth Defense Force

    Yayoi Schwael

Yayoi Schwael

Voice Actors: Chie Nakamura (Japanese), Carolyn Hennesy (English, as "Ramona Lee")

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/294967.jpg
Former pilot of "Hartzenen" (the white robot) but had the misfortune of being injured and losing that ability. Kazuki saved her life and she fell head over heels in love with him.
  • Action Girl: Even though she can't pilot a robot anymore, she should not be underestimated.
  • Boyish Short Hair: She used to have very long hair, but cut it very short after Kazuki saved her. The series never addresses why she got the haircut.
  • Career-Ending Injury: The injury from her last fight caused it to where she can no longer pilot a robot. Instead she became a Drill Instructor.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Has some traits of this, such as confiscating what she believes to be a love letter to Kazuki.
  • Fair Cop: She looks very good in a uniform.
  • Rescue Romance: Falls for Kazuki hard after he rescued her.
  • Teacher/Student Romance: Doesn't even try to hide her favoritism of Kazuki at school.
  • Triple Shifter: She is the Sanada maid, a Homeroom Teacher, and a Drill Instructor. Heavily implied she took all of these jobs just to be able to spend more time with Kazuki.
  • Tsundere: More on the dere side.

    Ken Sanada

Ken Sanada

Voice Actors: Ryūsuke Ōbayashi (Japanese), Kirk Thornton (English, as "Sparky Thornton")

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ken_sanada_12673.jpg
Father of Mitsuki, he's the Mad Scientist behind the parallel world experiments he's been conducting. Though his work has eventually made progress, it involved dragging Kazuki into it.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Or is he?
  • It Amused Me: Will sometimes do things just because he wants to screw with someone. Such as sending the UN Representative audio of porn or adding girls to his house to tease Mitsuki.

Rara Army

    Ayuko Rara

Ayuko Rara

Voice Actors: Mika Doi (Japanese), Diva West (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/294974.jpg

  • Big Bad: Of the second half of the series.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Acts like one. Made clear when she holds her daughter's friends at gun point to force her daughter to be a pilot, and then hypnotizes her to be able to kill Kazuki.
  • Dimension Queen: She'd certainly like to think of herself as such.
  • Pimped-Out Dress: Ayuko Rara's Pink dress.

    Hiroshi Rara

Hiroshi Rara

Voice Actors: Kenichi Ogata (Japanese), Peter Spellos (English, as "G. Gordon Baer")

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hiroshi_rara_12675.jpg

  • Big Bad: Until Ayuko takes over.
  • Family-Values Villain: He still spends quality time with his wife and daughter at dinner.
  • Good Hair, Evil Hair: Firmly on "The Hitler" end of the spectrum.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He believes that the Ancient One's technology is too dangerous to let mankind use it. So he believes he and only he should rule the world with this technology to prevent senseless death. This is one of the reasons he agreed to the War Games to keep casualties to a minimum.

    Mitsuki Rara

Mitsuki Rara

Voice Actors: Megumi Toyoguchi (Japanese), Wendee Lee (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/73827.jpg
Originally known as "Miss Ra", the Rara Army's spokeswoman and mascot, it's later revealed that she's Mitsuki Sanada's counterpart in the parallel world.
  • Alternate Self: She's Mitsuki Sanada’s counterpart in the parallel world. They look exactly alike except for the color and style of their hair.
  • Betty and Veronica: She serves as the Betty to Mitsuki Sanada's Veronica for Kazuki's Archie.
  • Freaky Fashion, Mild Mind: Her Miss RaRa persona has her dress in a stripperific outfit and requires her to use mild hypnosis to pull off. When out of that uniform she is the sweetest character in the series.
  • Heavy Sleeper
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: She needs to be put in a trance to pull of "Miss Ra", otherwise she would be too embaressed to wear the uniform.
  • Large Ham: When she's in her Ms Rara costume. Turns out that the Rara Army braiwashes her to do it against her will.
  • Nice Girl: The genuinely kindest character other than Kazuki.
  • Rescue Romance: Mitsuki falls for Kazuki after he saves her from a fall.
  • Love Across Battlelines: She fell in love with Kazuki before she found out he was a pilot for the enemy (mainly due to never suspecting him as only women can be pilots). Afterwards they still hold feelings for each other despite being on opposite sides of the war.
  • Through His Stomach: How she gets virtually everyone in the Earth Defense Force to warm up to her despite having being the spokeswoman for the enemy the day before.
