Forces of Good
- Big Good: Share this role.
- The Chooser of the One: Astea is the one who chose the members of the Dragon Force.
- Crystal Dragon Jesus: Harsgalt gets bonus points for being an actual dragon. The Dragon Force is named after him.
- Dragons Are Divine: Harsgalt is a golden dragon with holy powers.
A mysterious individual found in the Shadow Tower. He claims to be a servant of Astea. He's the embodiment of Madruk's goodness, which was cast aside in the battle against Harsgalt, and taking human form.
- Big Damn Heroes: Midway through the first arc, you're prompted to investigate the mysterious Shadow Tower. Inside, you meet Ramda, who helps you by revealing some of the plot. On your way back, you get ambushed by Gaul and Scythe, who simply stand up after you defeat them in battle, and are on the verge of killing the party when Frest and Ramda show up, prompting them to retreat.
- In Junon's campaign, Scythe and Gaul get their revenge by actually killing Ramda in the Shadow Tower after their Villain: Exit, Stage Left.
- Dark Is Not Evil: Ramda is actually the goodness of Madruk's heart given physical form and sentience.
- Heroic Sacrifice/ Suicide Mission: See Hopeless Boss Fight below. This spurs your monarch into an Unstoppable Rage (which may or many not contribute to their powerup via Ancient Artifact), after which you get the satisfying opportunity to kick some serious mecha ass.
- Hopeless Boss Fight: Sacrifices himself to weaken Katmando during your first encounter with it. As Katmando can only be harmed once the heroes obtain their powerups via Ancient Artifact, the battle is essentially this.
- Mr. Exposition
- Supernormal Bindings: Ramda is locked in the Shadow Tower by some sort of rune.
- Taking You with Me: How he (attempts) to defeat Katmando. He fails, but his sacrifice spurs your monarch's power-up.
- Worf Effect: Gets this from Katmando. Badly. Goldark takes his place in Junon's campaign, but he gets better.
- Hero of Another Story: They stood against Madruk during his first war in the prologue. They failed, however; see Pride below. Notably, there were eight of them, and each becomes a mentor to the current Dragon Force, eventually empowering their Ancient Artifact just in time for the Final Battle:
- Miral to Wein
- Lord Frest himself to Goldark
- Farla (the previous Elf-Queen, who is still living out her normal lifespan) to Teiris
- Leviathan to Gongos
- Homura to Mikhal
- Kazabu to Leon
- Strauss to Reinhart
- Faust to Junon
- Pride: The reason why they failed. Each thought that they could take on Madruk alone, and ended up defeated by the Apostles of Darkness.
Secret Characters
Vlad is a vampire that lives in the Fiend Tower. Despite being a member of the Immortal Tribe (which are all Madruk's servants), he seeks to protect Legendra from Madruk
Sierra was Vlad's Love Interest. However, when Ryskim stole Vlad's Dark Orb, he used it to brainwash her into his servant.
- Brainwashed and Crazy: Sierra, under Ryskim.
- Cute Monster Girl: Sierra.
- Dark Action Girl: Sierra, to an extent.
- Dark Is Not Evil: Vlad.
- Evil Makeover: Sierra gets one while under Ryskim's control.
- Interspecies Romance: Vlad and Sierra might count, seeing as how he's a vampire and she's some kind of succubus.
- Of Corsets Sexy: Sierra's sprite. Fitting, as she's a Succubus.
- Permanently Missable Content: Vlad vs Ryskim. You can still save Sierra if you do not pit Vlad against Ryskim, but Vlad gets pissed and deserts your army (with Sierra in tow) if this happens. Thankfully, Vlad doesn't have to win (but your party must still defeat Ryskim) for his story to continue.
- Power Floats: Vlad's sprite.
- Redemption Demotion: Downplayed. Sierra has the same stats and abilities after turning good, but her army of 40 zombies is reduced to a paltry 10.
- Secret Character
- Terse Talker: Sierra, while Brainwashed and Crazy by Ryskim.
- Winged Humanoid: Sierra.
Hayate was a legendary ninja master. However, after his former apprentice Kyoem's betrayal and Madoka's death, he retired from active duty and exiled himself to the forests of Bozak. Shirox is his current apprentice.
- Berserk Button: Hayate's Dark and Troubled Past. Further elaborated upon when you meet Hayate when playing as Mikhal, because Mikhal was one corner of a Love Triangle, though he didn't win the girl in the end. When Kyoem killed Hayate's wife, the master ninja did NOT take it well. Thankfully, Mikhal's gracious enough to support Hayate's quest for revenge.
- Duel Boss: After you beat Shirox, Hayate challenges your monarch (and only your monarch) to a duel the next time you stop by his village. He will join regardless of outcome.
- Flash Step: Hayate is one of the very few Ninjas who learn Cross Flash.
- Glass Cannon: Hayate may pack one heck of a wallop (see below), but like other Ninjas, doesn't have much Hp or armour.
- Katanas Are Just Better: Hayate starts off with the Masamune, the most powerful "oriental" sword in the game. This makes him ridiculously strong for a Ninja...at least until the player can find their own Masamunes through searching castles.
- Mage Killer
- Playing with Fire: Shirox's Flame Cannon.
- Retired Badass: At the start of the game, Hayate is no longer in active service, and has devoted his time to training his apprentice, Shirox.
- Secret Character
- Awesome, but Impractical: While a Dragonman general that command Dragon troops is a huge boon to your forces, you won't get much mileage out of him unless you recruit him early into the story, given he only starts with 10 troops.
- Defector from Decadence/ My Species Doth Protest Too Much: Hides out in one of the mountain villages (location varies depending on the monarch you're playing), is tired of all the destruction his kind are causing, and just wants to live a quiet life. You can recruit him into your army by defeating him (he fights solo, thankfully), but doing so incurs the wrath of Zado, a powerful dragon-man who later attacks you with 100 dragons!
- Old Soldier: Implied by his portrait.

Other
- Alas, Poor Villain: Zanon gets a rather touching send-off.
- Bald of Authority: Grudar. While not a leader, he probably would be if his leader Zanon wasn't a demonic Blood Knight with Nigh-Invulnerability. He is still a leader of sorts however, as like all the other characters in the game, he is a general.
- Blessed with Suck: Zanon with Eclisis.
- Blood Knight: Zanon.
- Driven to Suicide: Zanon's tearjerking end, upon the blade of his own sword.
- Dying as Yourself: Zanon, during his My God, What Have I Done? moment, when he stabs himself with Eclisis to free himself from the sword's addictive power.
- Eviler than Thou: Zanon, to Ryskim. When Ryskim returns after his first defeat (see Always Save the Girl on the main page), he brings along a huge demon army to threaten the player with. Zanon shows up out of nowhere, and utterly obliterates the demons with Eclisis, leaving only Ryskim (and his Zombie troops) to fight you. Zanon doesn't hang around, but things get much, MUCH worse for him afterward...
- From Nobody to Nightmare: Zanon was little more than a common miner/slave before he found Eclisis. His fortunes changed tremendously afterward (but not necessarily for the better).
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: Zanon and Yuri certainly give off this vibe.
- Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Zanon to Yuri, leading to a Despair Event Horizon.
- Morality Chain: Yuri to Zanon. It doesn't end well for Yuri.
- Nigh-Invulnerable: Thanks to Eclisis, Zanon takes only 1 Hp of damage from Mook attacks, and drastically reduced damage from spells. He also heals to full after every battle, even if he loses (he always manages to flee successfully with his entourage, barring special circumstances).
