On your way back, you get ambushed by [[spoiler: Gaul and Scythe]], who simply stand up after you defeat them in battle, and are on the verge of killing the party when Frest and Ramda show up, prompting them to retreat.

* DarkIsNotEvil - Ramda is actually [[spoiler: ''the goodness of Madruk's heart'' given physical form and sentience.]]
* [[spoiler: HeroicSacrifice/ SuicideMission - See HopelessBossFight below.]] This spurs your monarch into an UnstoppableRage (which may or many not contribute to their powerup via AncientArtifact), after which you get the satisfying opportunity to kick some serious mecha ass.
* HopelessBossFight - [[spoiler: [[HeroicSacrifice Sacrifices himself]] to weaken Katmando during your first encounter with it. As Katmando can only be harmed once the heroes obtain their powerups via AncientArtifact, the battle is essentially this.]]

* SupernormalBindings - Ramda is locked in the Shadow Tower by some sort of rune.

When [[NinjaPirateRobotZombie Kyoem]] killed Hayate's wife, the master ninja did NOT take it well. Thankfully, Mikhal's gracious enough to support Hayate's quest for revenge.]]
* DuelBoss - After you beat Shirox, Hayate challenges your monarch (and only your monarch) to a duel the next time you stop by his village. [[spoiler: He will join regardless of outcome.]]
* FlashStep - Hayate is one of the very few Ninjas who learn Cross Flash.
* GlassCannon - Hayate may pack one heck of a wallop (see below), but like other Ninjas, doesn't have much Hp or armour.
* KatanasAreJustBetter - Hayate ''starts off'' with the Masamune, the most powerful "oriental" sword in the game. This makes him ''ridiculously'' strong for a Ninja...at least until the player can find their own Masamunes through searching castles.

* PlayingWithFire - Shirox's Flame Cannon.
* RetiredBadass - At the start of the game, Hayate is no longer in active service, and has devoted his time to training his apprentice, Shirox.

* AwesomeButImpractical - Being a Dragonman, he starts with the ability to command Dragon troops...but only 10 of them at the beginning. You'll either need to put him on the front lines (next to impossible at the later stages of the game, when you've effectively conquered the whole continent), or have lots of awards ready...
* DefectorFromDecadence/ MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch - Hides out in one of the mountain villages (location varies depending on the monarch you're playing), is tired of all the destruction his kind are causing, and just wants to live a quiet life. You can recruit him into your army by defeating him (he fights solo, thankfully), but doing so incurs the wrath of Zado, a [[ThatOneBoss powerful dragon-man who later attacks you with 100 dragons!]]
* OldSoldier - Implied by his portrait.

* AlasPoorVillain - [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity Zanon]] gets a rather touching send-off.
