Butt-Monkey: When Barry comes into his life, his following days turn into a nightmare; he unintentionally breaks his back, gets him in trouble for accidentally giving his ex-girlfriend his address and mistakes Julie for said ex, embarrasses him at a brunch with his boss' client, and has his car totaled by his ex who posed as his current girlfriend! This guy just couldn't catch a break.
The Every Man: Aside from bringing in a few more figures than your average American, Tim Conrad is pretty much your typical Paul Rudd Straight Man.
Honest Corporate Executive: The biggest clash he has with the higher-ups is their obvious lack of morality. Tim is much more direct and honest, and lands a meeting with Martin Mueller by being just that.
Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Tim agrees to participate in the "Dinner for Winners" so that he can get a promotion and impress his girlfriend. He's clearly uncomfortable with it, and by the movie's end, he admits to his jerkassery.
Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: A man who makes dioramas of stuffed mice and actually looks a little like a mouse himself- brown hair, prominent nose, prominent upper teeth.
Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Barry is a very, very, very large moron. That's the joke.
Cuckold: His wife left him for his callous boss Therman, and Therman doesn't hesitate to torment him with this.
Literal-Minded: Takes everything at face value or hilariously misconstrues the degree to which his help is required in a given situation.
Nice Guy: Though he causes nothing but misfortune for Tim the moment he steps into his life, Barry genuinely has his heart in the right place.

Betty and Veronica: The Archie, to Tim's Betty (been her boyfriend for a long time, normal, wants to marry her), and Kieran's Veronica (just met her, eccentric, mainly interested in her as a paramour).
Mistaken for Cheating: First, she believed that Tim was cheating on her (no thanks to Barry mistaking her for Darla). Then Tim believed Julie was cheating on him with Kieran.
Satellite Character: Her character doesn't give much to the story but being Tim's long-time girlfriend.
