Here is a small list of characters from Deemo.

    open/close all folders

    Deemo
The titular main protagonist of Deemo. Though a creepy fellow, he is actually very kind and gentle. However, there is more to him than he appears...
  • Big Brother Instinct: He frequently acts like a Cool Big Bro or Parental Substitute for the Little Girl and, to some extent, the Masked Lady as well. Justified due to Deemo being the mental shadow of Hans, Alice's dead older brother.
  • Creepily Long Arms: His arms are skinnier than is possible by human standards.
  • Creepy Long Fingers
  • Curtains Match the Window: Deemo also has this as Hans, with his brown hair matching his eyes.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: His appearance is undoubtedly creepy, but his pleasant interactions with the Little Girl peg him as a Nice Guy. It's also been shown that he gets along with The Masked Lady/Celia.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": His name is Deemo. The 2.0 update reveals his name is Hans.
  • Nice Guy: He's much kinder than his appearance would have you believe.
  • No Mouth: A main reason why he's incapable of speaking.
  • Noodle People: Deemo is very lanky and skinny, which adds to his creepy appearance.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Deemo's body looks like he's wearing a tuxedo, complete with a white bow tie. That's because he is the mental shadow of Hans, Alice's dead older brother.
  • Silent Protagonist: As mentioned below in The Voiceless, he's silent, and all his responses consist of "...". Again, averted in the 2.0 update. After playing "Fluquor", he will say "Goodbye, my beloved sister, Alice."
  • The Voiceless: If you tap on him while playing the game, his responses will always consist of "..." Averted in the 2.0 update; when you play the song "Fluquor", a cutscene will play where Deemo will speak
  • Wham Line: "Goodbye, my beloved sister, Alice."

    The Little Girl
Voiced by: Ayana Taketatsu (The Last Recital)

The second protagonist of Deemo, who discovers the titular character after she falls through a window. She accompanies Deemo as he tries to help her get back to where she came from.

    The Masked Lady
The third protagonist of Deemo. A mysterious figure, no one knows where she came from. She apparently knows Deemo, and like him there's more to her than meets the eye.
  • Anti-Villain: The only reason she tries to stop the little girl and Deemo from growing the tree and leaving the tower behind is because she didn't want to leave Deemo's side.
  • Broken Bird: Turns out to be this when her past is revealed.
  • Death Seeker: Deemo: The Last Recital reveals that she represents a part of Alice who wants to die so she can stay with her dead older brother Hans, aka Deemo, forever. This was foreshadowed in songs "Nine Point Eight" (committing suicide), and "Myosotis" (refusing to accept a loved one's death in favor of clinging to wishful fantasies and old memories).
  • Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: Celia when unmasked lacks the shine in her eyes if compared to Alice. This is made more evident in the animated video of Deemo's storyline in the PS Vita spin-off.
  • Ethereal White Dress: The Masked Lady is dressed entirely in white, fitting her mysteriousness and tragic backstory marked by death.
  • The Faceless: Initially due to her mask, and even in per-song art where she's depicted taking off her mask or with her mask off, her face is covered in shadow. Averted as of the 2.0 update, which reveals that her actual face is an exact replica of Alice's.
  • Freudian Excuse: She represents the part of Alice who refuses to accept her brother Hans' Heroic Sacrifice and death in a bus accident, and misses him so much that she wants to die so she can join Hans in the afterlife. She fears that Deemo, Hans' mental shadow, will disappear forever if the Little Girl escapes, therefore causing Alice to wake up from her coma, and has been trying to stop her from going.
  • In the Hood: She always wears a hood which she takes off along with her mask during the "Fluquor" cutscene in the main game.
  • Literal Split Personality: In a way, she represents the side of Alice who remembered all her memories, including the death of her brother Hans and thus she represents her denial and grief that her brother's gone and tried to prevent Alice from leaving so she won't leave Deemo's side.
  • Significant Anagram: Her real name, Celia, is an anagram of Alice
  • Tsundere: An implied platonic example with Deemo. The Little Girl notes that whenever the Masked Lady talks to Deemo, she always sounds fierce.
  • Walking Spoiler: Who she really is spoils the game's ending, as well as the fact The Little Girl was in a Convenient Coma the whole time.

    Spoiler Characters

Alice

A young girl who bears a very strong resemblance to the Little Girl. In fact, she's actually the girl seen in the game, just her personification in reality.
  • Break the Cutie: Poor Alice...
  • Convenient Coma: Fell into one after getting into a bus accident, which starts off the game.
  • The Cutie: Again, like the Little Girl. Just like her, she's broken by the end. Then again, it appears in the real world that she has (kind of) gotten over it.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Like the Little Girl and the Masked Lady/Celia, she has brown hair that matches her brown eyes.
  • Death Seeker: Part of her wanted to die so she can be with her dead older brother, Hans. This aspect took form as the Masked Lady/Celia. Thankfully, she was able to overcome this trope.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Despite losing her parents and her brother as well as being understandably saddened for the loss, Alice chooses to accept her brother’s death and move on with her life. The ending for ‘The Forgotten Hourglass’ shows she grew up to become an accomplished pianist like her brother before her.
  • Follow in My Footsteps: Alice decided to follow her brother’s footsteps to become a pianist.
  • Heal the Cutie: ‘The Forgotten Hourglass’ showed that Alice was able recover from the tragedies in her life.
  • Meaningful Name: Scramble the letters in Alice's name, you get Celia, who is the Masked Lady. This is also meaningful in the fact that the Masked Lady/Celia is a side of Alice that wanted to die.
  • Sexy Backless Outfit: Alice is depicted as wearing this when performing as a pianist in ‘The Forgotten Hourglass’.
  • She's All Grown Up: The end of ‘The Forgotten Hourglass’ shows she not only became an accomplished pianist like her brother, but she grew up to be an adult as well.
  • Sole Survivor: With her parents and brother dead, Alice is the only known survivor of her family.
  • Token Mini-Moe: Just like the Little Girl.
  • True Blue Femininity: In the real world, she wears a blue dress. One moment shows an adult version of herself playing piano, wearing a light blue dress.
  • Walking Spoiler: Talking about her one small bit spoils the ending of the game.

Hans

Alice's older brother, who died prior to the events of Deemo.
  • The Ace: It's implied he was a talented piano player; the 2.0 update has an unlockable room where the Little Girl can find a piano medal with his name on it (albeit with all letters save for the 'H' scratched off).
  • Big Brother Instinct: The first thing he does when a bus starts skidding towards them is to push his sister out of the way and take the full brunt, dying immediately as a result.
  • Cool Big Bro: When he was alive, he was extremely caring towards Alice and even bought her a stuffed cat as a present. His last moments were spent saving Alice from an oncoming bus.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He pushed Alice out of the way of an oncoming bus, bearing the full brunt of it. He died upon impact, while Alice fell into a coma. He does it again when he, as Deemo, helps Alice wake up from her coma in the real world, knowing that this will erase himself from her existence forever.
  • Posthumous Character: He died long before the game started.
  • Promoted to Parent: He was basically Alice’s parent while he was still alive.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Save for one cutscene, he's always wearing a black tuxedo. His mental shadow, Deemo, takes his appearance after him.
  • Walking Spoiler: Much like his little sister, talking about him spoils the ending of the game.
