Gary: Of course they're complete social outcasts.
Jimmy: They look pretty harmless.
Gary: They're actually sneaky bastards.
This Is Your School
The lowest-ranking clique in the school hierarchy, led by Earnest Jones. They are the traditional 80's high school nerd: smart in academics, gadgeteers, weaponry, pop culture, and chemistry, but not in socializing and physical combat. They're mostly Jimmy's allies throughout the storyline, but they turn against him briefly at the beginning of Chapter IV. While not very strong in fighting, using weak slaps and shoves where they fall down, they sometimes use rulers to give them a better edge. What really bites are their Stink Bombs, Firecrackers, and Jury-Rigged potato and bottle rocket guns. They are found in the library on campus and around the comic shop in town, Dragon's Wing.

As A Whole

  • Abhorrent Admirer: The nerds are this to the female students in general but specific examples include:
    • Algie falls in love with Lola in Chapter 3, but Lola only uses him to help with her homework and even calls him a "fatso".
    • Earnest takes his implied crush on Mandy to sleazy levels when he has Jimmy take "naughty" pictures of her. His excitement at seeing them tells us all we need to know. He later has these pictures printed on posters and lets Thad post them all across town.
  • Alliteration & Adventurers: Many of them play the very popular game of Grottoes & Gremlins.
  • Animal Motif: The group has downplayed association with rats; Algie and Bucky note  have pet rats called "Sniffy" and "George", the gang has a collective fear of rats as shown by the mission "Rats in the Library", the group is willing to run away from a fight, use underhanded tactics, are regarded as "Sneaky bastards" by Gary Smith, and the Nerds use homemade firearms that are made from various scraps around the school. They also made an alternate route to the abandoned observatory to avoid jocks, like how rats would avoid predators by taking alternate routes and staying out of sight. The Bullworth academy crest also has a rat as part of the design, likely representing the nerds.
  • Anti-Villain: They are only interested in getting revenge against the Jocks and the clique is the first to befriend Jimmy for this reason. Considering the humiliation tactics used against the Nerds (from making the fat kids wet themselves) and the fact that they run away screaming from a fight, the game really wants the player to feel bad about fighting them unnecessarily.
  • Axes at School: They bring spud guns, bottle rocket launchers, stink bombs, and firecrackers they invented to school, they also built a Potato Launcher LMG outside and inside the Observatory.
  • Badass Bookworm: Not only can they make working and efficient weapons and chemicals, they can also plan efficiently like with "The Big Prank" where they humiliate the Jocks while they prepare for a big football game.
  • Bamboo Technology: All their weapons are assembled from school supplies or things sold for school projects.
  • Basement-Dweller: Their second hangout is the basement of a comic book store, it's filled with computers, sodas, a Dungeons and Dragon ripoff sprawled on a table, and one Arcade Machine.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: As Gary warns. While seemingly harmless and not very physically threatening, they craft seriously damaging weapons and plans to humiliate their sworn enemies. Some have a bit of an ego on them, Earnest, especially with his Messiah Complex, and a number of them, have some dialogue about taking revenge on other students.
  • Bully Magnet: Due to being at the bottom of the social totem pole, they are bullied relentlessly by the other cliques.
  • Combat Pragmatist: They have to make their own weapons and use underhanded tactics to fight back against the jocks, who will usually defeat them effortlessly in hand-to-hand combat.
  • Custom Uniform: Earnest and his clique all wear green Astronomy Club vests or sweaters, and most of them wear bobblehats or scarves during the winter.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: The Nerds, as revenge for the jocks picking on them, have Jimmy urinate in their drinks, sneak fireworks into their footballs, and distribute across the town what is tantamount to revenge porn of Mandy.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: The only thing the Nerds use that gives them a one-up against their Bullies and Jocks is guns and bombs. Well, potato guns, bottle rocket launchers, and firecrackers more like, but still...
Earnest: Soon we will all have one!
  • The Dog Bites Back: What so many of them dream of. Chapter 4 is dedicated to making it a reality.
  • Eek, a Mouse!!: All of them are deathly afraid of rats, as shown in "Rats in the Library" where all of them refuse to go into the library after Gary releases a swarm of them there and cower all over Jimmy at the sight of one rat.
  • Escapism: The entire clique is a fan of Grottoes and Gremlins and tries to play the game as much as possible. According to Miss Danvers, they were even playing it in the middle of class.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
  • Farmer and the Viper: No matter how many times Jimmy will help the clique, they will often betray him for the first reason they can come up with. The clique is duplicitous; Earnest will blame Jimmy for everything that goes wrong, Algie often betrays Jimmy despite being the very first person Jimmy helps, and the nerds will side against Jimmy completely in Chapter 5. Whenever they are confronted over their actions, they'll quickly fold into spineless begging (even if they are the ones who started the fight) or they'll play a victim card to get Jimmy to help them.
  • Freudian Excuse: The nerds are the most bullied faction in the game and their main tormentors, the jocks, abuse them on a daily basis without facing punishment from the teachers. The abuse from the jocks gives them their vengeful drive and the bullying from everyone else gives them major trust issues towards anyone and everyone.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: They make weapons that are Infinity +1 Swords if Jimmy gets his hands on any of them. They've also got a mounted spud cannon that can brain trained athletes in full football gear, even when they're wearing helmets!
  • Gang of Hats: The nerds are the smartest kids in school but they are also the weakest, so they have to rely on underhand tactics and homemade weapons so they can have a better chance of survival in a fight. They are completely paranoid about being bullied and have a bitter rivalry with the Jocks since they are their main tormentors. The gang are the worst physical fighters in the game but the best with ranged attacks once they start using spud guns and firework launchers but they are such weak fighters that they might knock themselves out or knock out their teammates as collateral damage.
  • Geek: Doubles as these thanks to their borderline obsession with the Grottos and Gremlins board game, to the point that recovering Melvin's character sheets from the bullies is treated as a huge Lord Of The Rings style battle. They're also shown to be fans of some arcade games, with their hideout in Bullworth town containing a "Cun-Sumo" arcade machine (Jimmy has to beat Fatty's high score to use their hideout as a safehouse).
  • Geek Physiques:
    • Unlike every other clique in the game, the nerds don’t have a single well-built male member at all; they’re all either fat or scrawny with no in-between. And it shows during fights, where they can be taken out easily in hand-to-hand combat.
    • Ironically, despite her being viciously bullied by Mandy for her looks, Beatrice is the only Aversion to the rule. Her body is just as slender and statuesque as the other attractive girls at Bullworth, the only thing setting her apart being her poor posture.
  • Glass Cannon: They become this when equipped with any weapon, especially their spud guns, bottle rocket launchers, and firecrackers. They can go out just as easily, but can deal large amounts of damage at a longer range.
  • Grew a Spine: They help Jimmy fight Bullies to get Melvin's Grottoes and Gremlin character sheets back, and they act like it's a huge Good vs Evil war. They also get motivated by Jimmy into going after the Jocks for Chapter 4.
  • Guile Hero: Deconstructed, the nerds are initially portrayed as the most sympathetic of the cliques because they are regularly bullied by everyone at Bullworth and their bullies frequently escape punishment. To compensate for their lack of physical strength and combat capabilities, the nerds have to rely on makeshift weapons to improve their chances of winning. However, this makes the clique arguably more dangerous than the others as they manage to trick Jimmy into helping them multiple times by making him feel bad for them, with their duplicitous nature often showing by how quick they are to betray Jimmy and attack other students with firecrackers and spud guns. In their revenge plot against the jocks, they humiliate the head cheerleader by having Jimmy stalk and take pictures of her, then post the pictures around the academy and neighboring town.
  • Hidden Depths: Considering how out of shape they are and how much their leader despises physical education, it's rather surprising to see them participate in certain sports. They'll always show up to be on Jimmy's team in dodgeball even during the unlockable optional matches and a few of them even join in on the optional bike races.
  • Home Base: The library and the old abandoned observatory on campus. Off campus, they hang around Dragon's Wing and its basement, which Jimmy can also do if he beats the ConSumo high score.
  • Joke Character: The nerds have small health bars (the skinny Nerds have 55 health points, while the fat nerds have 60) and fight with awkward punches, rapid slapping to defend themselves, shoulder barges, and shoving attacks where they fall down themselves. Earnest himself is a little tougher (he has 100 health points, average for most clique students) but is still a pathetic fighter.
  • Lethal Joke Character: Sometimes they use stronger weapons like firecrackers, bottle rocket launchers, spud guns, or (uncommonly) yardsticks which deal more damage than most unarmed attacks. During his boss fight, early in Chapter 4, Earnest also takes advantage of a mounted spud gun which can easily drain Jimmy's health if the player isn't careful.
  • Leitmotif: An electronic variation of the Recurring Riff that plays during several mission tracks, notably "Defend Bucky", "Defender of the Castle" and even the Jock's boss theme, "The Big Game".
  • Long-Range Fighter: They are absolutely pitiful in unarmed fighting. It's the inventions that they throw and shoot that give them an advantage.
  • MacGyvering: They are able to craft serious weapons from school-related materials or anything they can get their hands on. Thad has made simple grenades out of erasers and fireworks.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Downplayed. While Mandy did insult and humiliate the nerds, she didn't give them wedgies or beat the living hell out of them like the rest of the Jocks did but it is her that suffers the brunt of their revenge, as Thad spreading posters of her all around the town and campus basically ruined her reputation and social standing, which is a bit too much for an Alpha Bitch who just made fun of the nerds and rejected them.
  • Nerd Glasses: It's basically their uniform, the whole clique wears glasses but it could be knocked off them if they get attacked.
  • Not So Above It All: To near Hypocrite levels. Despite being bully-victims themselves, the game shows them to be just as bad as clique members when they can get away with it. They'll often pick on non-clique students and those with neutral or lower reputations with them, especially around the Library, their home turf, where they'll quickly become violent even without provocation.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: They want revenge on the jocks for bullying them so horribly and for humiliating Earnest during the class president election.
  • Powerful, but Incompetent: Their bottle rocket launchers, firecrackers, and spud guns can knock out their opponents in one or two hits but they lack any actual strategy and formation as they can knock out their own teammates through friendly fire. Even then, they will fight hand-to-hand rather than use ranged weapons as their first move.
  • Revenge by Proxy: Mandy Wiles was the first target of their revenge, Earnest wanted "naughty pictures" of her to send a message to the jocks that they want payback for the countless number of times they were humiliated. Thad then converted these pictures into posters and plastered them around the academy and neighboring town to do so. While the nerds did get a reaction from the jocks, the one who suffered the worst of it was Mandy. While Mandy is indeed a bitch for how she bullies everyone, violating her privacy and dignity by taking sexually explicit pictures of her and posting them across the academy and neighboring town as revenge porn is overkill. Especially since Mandy only threw verbal insults at them — which is bad, but posting revenge porn of Mandy as punishment for it is extremely disproportionate.
Earnest: I need some inappropriate pictures of someone they care about
    Jimmy: You want pictures?
Earnest: Yes, it's a complicated plan all right, I need some naughty pictures of that Mandy girl.
Jimmy: (frustratedly) I'm sure you do but what is THAT got to do with this?
Earnest: Oh this? This is purely for the purposes of this plan. I'm not like that at all.
Jimmy: You want ME to get incriminating pictures of the head cheerleader just for YOUR plan. The kind of pictures that could land me in jail or worse!
Earnest: It's not easy being the boss...
Jimmy: Man, this better be good.
  • Smoke Shield: Usually the result of their use of stink bombs. They do Scratch Damage when used, so their targets will simply walk through the fumes and get to them.
  • Stereotypical Nerd: The Nerds are one of the four main cliques within Bullworth Academy. They can mostly be found in and around the library, and they have a stronghold in the observatory near the football field. Outside of the school, they often meet up in the basement of the comic book shop for games of Grottos and Gremlins. Their combat skills are, as you would expect, sorely lacking compared to most other students, and they often find themselves getting picked on, though they tend to arm themselves with stink bombs and other such weapons in a bid to level the playing field.
  • Stout Strength: Downplayed in the case of Fatty and Melvin. They have the same amount of health as the rest of the clique, but can actually deal some serious damage at close range unlike the scrawnier nerds who are forced to rely on their weapons.
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: Their arsenal includes firecrackers and bottle rocket launchers. Earnest's bossfight has him drop several batches of firecrackers around the place.
  • Token Good Teammate: Deconstructed, at first they were seen as underdogs who needed help and protection from the other cliques. However, the clique is so paranoid and trusting that they are easily swayed by Gary Smith and would betray Jimmy as soon as they thought Jimmy was bullying them too. The nerds have to rely on firearms and underhanded tactics to get revenge on the jocks, Mandy Wiles gets the worst of their revenge when Earnest has Thad post sordid pictures of her across the academy and Bullworth Town as a form of revenge porn to taunt the jocks. An act that utterly disgusts Jimmy and the Jocks and forces the former to clean up their mess by fighting the latter and taking down the posters.
  • Trap Master: When they control the carnival funhouse, intending to use it against the Jocks in this manner.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: In chapter 1, they were meek and cowardly and required Jimmy to protect them. By chapter 4, they refuse to help Jimmy, saying that they "are a bit above helping people like you".
  • Ungrateful Bastard: In Chapter 4, the Nerds abandon Jimmy when he wants their help in fighting the Jocks, as they believe he is nothing more than a bodyguard. This is despite Jimmy helping them in Chapter 1 and defeating every other clique in Bullworth Academy up to this point. It is possibly the result of Gary's manipulation.
  • Villainous Underdog: Deconstructed, by Algie's own admission, the clique is bullied by everyone in the academy. The nerds often need to be saved by Jimmy and are the first clique to be on friendly terms with Jimmy after he helps them by fighting the Bullies and Greasers. However, their fight against the jocks clique shows that they are no better than their bullies, no matter how sympathetic their motivations are. In chapter 4, they use revenge porn to disproportionately humiliate and torment Mandy Wiles, the head cheerleader, whose crimes range from embarrassing them in public to mildly sassing them. Worse still, they only targeted her to rile up the jocks meaning they didn't consider her a threat or only thought of her as a sex object. The plan worked so well that it caused the entire jock faction to storm the observatory and force Jimmy to clean up the mess by fighting the jocks and taking down the posters.
  • Weak, but Skilled: They may be weaklings, but they are capable of making custom weapons from Potato Launchers, Bottle Rockets, and Firecrackers.
  • What Have You Done for Me Lately?: The clique has received the most help from Jimmy but will often betray them at the slightest show of mistreatment or as soon as they think they are better off without Jimmy.
  • Wimp Fight: Unless they're carrying a weapon, fights involving any of the Nerds will use particularly weak punches and slaps. Unsurprisingly enough, Earnest is the weakest boss in Complete Mayhem and the Nerds themselves are taken out pretty easily at the beginning of Chapter 4 when they turn on Jimmy.

    Earnest Jones

Earnest Jones

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/earnest_jones.jpg
"I won't mince words, my friends. This school needs help. My help."
Voiced by: Jesse Tendler
"You guys treat us nerds like dirt. One day you'll regret it!"
The undisputed leader of the Nerds. He tries to run for student council president and later leads a movement to topple the reputation of the Jocks, though it takes convincing from Jimmy to get that to happen.
  • Anti-Hero: He's firmly the nominal variant. He's an arrogant, entitled and unhinged pervert who just so happens to be on Jimmy's side for most of the game and supports his crusade against bullying. Even as early as Chapter 1, he's shown Putting on the Reich during his presidential campaign and makes sexist comments during his speech despite being the only candidate brave enough to run against Ted Thompson. While he supports Jimmy in Chapter 4 against the Jocks (only because Jimmy beat him and the Nerds into complying), he takes his "revenge plot" against the Jocks a bit too far when he has Jimmy take crude pictures of their only female member, cheerleader Mandy Wiles, and spreads them all around town in an attempt to cement her as a whore. He completely loses his "hero" status once he turns on Jimmy during Chapter 5.
  • Arch-Enemy: To Ted Thompson, the most popular kid in school and the leader of the Jocks.
  • Background Boss: His bossfight has him stand on platforms in the observatory, sending attacks to you from above. He's fought by attacking the supporting structures that keep the scaffolding up.
  • Bad Boss: The Nerds govern themselves by having the smartest member as their leader. However, Earnest is quite incompetent in this capacity. This is best shown in the following 2 missions, Funhouse Fun and Paparazzi. In "Funhouse Fun", Algie directs Jimmy to the funhouse because the Jocks are going to be there and Jimmy could cause some trouble for them. In "Paparazzi", Earnest tells Jimmy to get "naughty" pictures of Mandy so he can rile up the Jocks but it's revealed that Earnest only wanted the pictures for himself and when the Jocks find out, they assault the observatory.
  • Corrupted Character Copy: Of Lewis Sholnick from Revenge of the Nerds, who he closely resembles.
    • In the movie, Lewis' antics are portrayed as charming to the audience and karmic to the jocks, and he gets the girl in the end despite his many wrongdoings. In the game, Earnest is also a sex-obsessed nerd, but it's made clear from the get-go that he is an entitled, envious pervert who thinks women are "bimbos" for being attracted to the jocks while he himself does nothing to make himself attractive to them.
    • In a homage to the scene where Lewis and the nerds print naked pictures of the girls and sell them to everyone on campus as revenge for bullying them, Earnest gets Jimmy to take illicit pictures of Mandy and the nerds post them across Bullworth without Jimmy's knowledge. Unlike the movie, the game shows the real consequences of revenge porn; Mandy is horrified by what happened, and while she agrees she had it coming for being a bully, she says she didn't deserve this sort of punishment since it ruined her life and gave her an unwanted reputation as a slut. Jimmy feels guilty for the part he played in this and is so disgusted with what the nerds did that he leaves to take the posters down (even having the option of beating up Thad so he'd stop posting them). The jocks also assault the nerds while calling them creeps and sickos, showing that even they have limits on bullying.
    • When confronted with the consequences of his actions, Earnest denies all responsibility by playing the victim card and blaming Jimmy for taking those pictures in the first place.
  • Covert Pervert: He frequently talks about getting his collection of "magazines" back from Algie, and he's the one who asks Jimmy to take intimate pictures of Mandy. In addition, he fantasizes out loud about a magazine model right before the big game.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: Implied, he's going through puberty and is very interested in the girls around school, particularly Mandy. He appears to be envious of Ted and he calls the girls "bimbos" for being interested in him and the other boys. He hires Jimmy to take erotic pictures of Mandy and gets upset when the Jocks want revenge for violating her privacy.
  • Entitled Bastard: Due to his status as a bully victim and the leader of the nerds, Earnest expects to be the hero and the good guy in the entire game because of his victim status. However, Earnest is just a vengeful creep who doesn't see how wrong it is to take erotic pictures of a girl and post them across town without her consent and he non-subtly implies that he plans to betray Jimmy and Gary once they become kings of the school. When confronted with the consequences of his actions, he blames Jimmy and then hides behind him as Jimmy cleans up the mess he made.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Although easily the least outwardly aggressive of the clique leaders, Earnest is arguably the most villainous and devious, ordering Jimmy to take explicit images of Mandy without her knowing and performing acts that were labelled as "terrorism" by Miss Danvers. Despite this, he does seem to sincerely care about his fellow Nerds; when he believed they were all gonna be beat up by the Jocks, he yelled that he loved them all.
  • Eviler than Thou: While the jocks are indeed horrible people for bullying those weaker than themselves, even they are disgusted by Earnest's perversion and use of revenge porn to punish Mandy for bullying them.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: One of the most unhinged characters in the game, and he and his clique just so happen to wear glasses as a defining character trait.
  • Good Is Not Nice: All of the Nerds are this from time to time, but Earnest, in particular, stands out. While he may be the only clique leader (besides Johnny) who at least shows respect to Jimmy (well, somewhat) and isn't openly antagonistic to him, he is still far from actually being nice and honest. It's even debatable as to whether or not he is actually "good" in the strictest sense.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Earnest greatly envies the other boys around the school because the girls are more interested in them than him.
  • Hormone-Addled Teenager: Earnest is going through puberty and is completely obsessed with the opposite gender, who he has "dreams" of. His perversion nearly gets him and his clique killed when he instructs Jimmy to take compromising pictures of Mandy for his "personal use" that leads to the Jocks storming the Observatory.
Earnest: A healthy interest in sexual matters is natural during puberty, bud.
  • Ironic Name: "Earnest" is commonly associated with sternness and honesty. While Earnest rules his clique with an iron fist, an honest individual he most definitely is not.
  • Irony:
    • He tells Jimmy before his boss battle that it's his brains against Jimmy's brawn. As he wields a mounted spud gun and you have to shoot and knock down the platforms holding it, the opposite of his taunt is true.
    • Despite being the leader of the Nerds, the smartest yet weakest clique in the game, Earnest's decisions are to the detriment of his clique. The clique formed the revenge plan against the jocks, while Earnest cost them the election due to unpopularity and sexist comments about women. He even hires Jimmy to take naughty pictures of Mandy, which puts the entire clique in danger when the Jocks inevitably find out and decide to beat them up to avenge Mandy (it also nearly makes Jimmy leave the Nerds out of disgust). Finally, he's the most trusting of Gary and sides with him wholeheartedly, despite Jimmy telling him not to trust Gary.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While he's mainly doing it to save himself from the Jocks and his own clique, he's not wrong to blame Jimmy for the pictures. Jimmy knew what he was doing was wrong and he could have denied Earnest's request as found other ways to piss off the jocks.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: Deconstructed, Earnest is portrayed as the most sympathetic of the clique leaders because he and his clique are bullied relentlessly by the other students, and their interest in women was initially played for laughs as Melvin offers Jimmy his "wenches" and Earnest is caught reading an adult magazine. Earnest's perversions are eventually revealed to be far more disturbing and sinister because he convinces Jimmy to take pictures of Mandy Wiles, the head cheerleader, without her permission or knowledge so he can humiliate the clique as part of the revenge plan. However, after Thad posts them on the Bullworth campus and neighboring town, the Jocks inevitably find out about this and vengefully storm the observatory while calling them "sickos". Although Mandy admits that she deserved some punishment for how she's treated others, she tells Jimmy that she doesn't deserve this level of punishment. When confronted over his actions, Earnest doesn't understand why they are angry at him for acting on his urges and believes his urges are natural.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Combined with Ungrateful Bastard. He guilt-trips Jimmy into helping the Nerds during the first three chapters, only to then turn on Jimmy again after Earnest feels that he is of no use to them. Even after his defeat, he still pulls this off, as shown during "Defender of the Castle".
  • Nerds Are Pervs: Earnest Jones is a parody of Lewis Sholnick from Revenge of the Nerds. Earnest is obsessed with getting revenge on the Jocks for bullying him and his clique and seducing the girls of Bullworth. In "Paparazzi", he convinces Jimmy to take scandalous pictures of the head cheerleader, Mandy Wiles, to rile up the jocks but it's soon revealed that he only wanted the pictures for his personal pleasure. The following missions "Defender of the Castle" and "Discretion Assured" show that the nerds have posted them across Bullworth as revenge porn, inciting the jocks to assault the observatory out of disgust for what the nerds did and Jimmy atoning for what he did by taking down the pictures.
  • Nerd Glasses: All of the Nerds have these. Hit him a few times and they'll fall off. Earnest wears bronze half-moon glasses.
  • Never My Fault: After giving Jimmy the task of sneaking into the girl's dorms and photographing Mandy, he blames Jimmy for the resulting attack by the Jocks.
  • The Peter Principle: Earnest might be the smartest of his clique but once he's put in charge of them, he nearly gets them pulverized by the jocks after convincing Jimmy to take illicit pictures of Mandy.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: He appears to have some issues with women as his speech includes calling women "bimbos", has Jimmy take illicit photos of Mandy for his own pleasure, and then has his clique use those photos as revenge porn by putting them up all over town. When the Jocks assault the observatory, he claims his urges are natural and didn't see the problem with violating Mandy's privacy.
  • Putting on the Reich: His student president posters feature pictures of him against a shaded backdrop, alongside a green flag with a large tilted black E in the middle surrounded by a white circle, both clearly based on Nazi imagery.
  • Sexual Karma: Invoked but subsequently defied. As part of his plan to get revenge on the Jocks for bullying him and his clique, he instructs Jimmy to get pictures of their head cheerleader, Mandy Wiles, so he can allegedly use them to humiliate the clique. However, it's pretty clear that the pictures were just for his own personal pleasure and the Jocks quickly find out about it and outright assault the Observatory for committing revenge porn.
  • Smug Snake: Of the clique leaders, Earnest appears to be the most amicable and often requests Jimmy's help. However, Earnest is actually the most manipulative, trecherous and conceited. As he nearly gets Jimmy arrested for taking those photos of Mandy and nearly admits to planning to betray Jimmy in order to become king of the school.
Earnest: Those over-developed, under-brained lords of our little manor, reduced to a bunch of sniveling wretches. Bowing down to my...
    Jimmy: You mean OUR.
    Earnest: I meant our superiority.
  • Social Darwinist: He shows no concern for his friends when Jimmy breaks into the observatory and regards them as his "weakest compadres".
  • Too Dumb to Live:
    • Decides that it's a great idea at the beginning of Chapter 4 to turn on Jimmy when he asks for some help to topple the Jocks. This is despite Earnest knowing about Jimmy forcibly taking over three cliques and his One-Man Army status.
    • He tricks Jimmy into getting sordid pictures of Mandy, not taking the time to ponder that maybe, just maybe the Jocks won't be so happy about the Nerds spreading revenge porn of their head cheerleader around town and the school. This nearly gets him and his clique killed when the Jocks attempt to storm the Observatory in an act of Revenge.

    Algie Papadopoulos

Algernon "Algie" Papadopoulos

"Hey Jimmy, did you ever play Grottos & Gremlins? It's really keen! You can like, totally be a cool hero who kicks ass and stuff!"
Voiced by: Brett Tabisel
"You simple-minded noble foot soldier!"
A nerd prone to wetting himself who makes recurring appearances throughout the story as somebody that needs help from Jimmy.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: Algie genuinely believed he had a chance with Lola despite his weak bladder, low popularity, and social awkwardness.
  • Boisterous Weakling: He can talk tough and make fun of people but he'll be straight-up butchered in a fight, he's also at the very bottom of the social totem pole. Algie can also be hired as a bodyguard if Jimmy gets full respect from the nerds, even though "cannon fodder" would be a more accurate description as he does nothing but throw weak slaps and calling the enemy names in a straight fight, without even mentioning his low health bar.
  • Born Unlucky: Algie gets bullied by everyone and is manipulated by Lola in chapter 3, even the teachers aren't afraid to belittle him or embarrass him.
  • Butt-Monkey: Due to Algie's social awkwardness and weak bladder, Algie is the most unpopular student in Bullworth. Even the faculty aren't afraid to mock him; Miss Peabody outs him as a bedwetter on a bulletin board and Mr. Crabblesnitch voices his surprise that the "fat child who wets himself" is more popular than Jimmy.
  • The Chew Toy: While the entire clique is the main target of the bullies, Algie is designed to be an easy target because of his obesity, unzipped shorts, weak bladder, high pitch screams, and overwhelming awkwardness.
  • Embarrassing Damp Sheets: Not only does he frequently piss himself, but the bulletin board also outs him as a bedwetter in front of the entire school.
  • Did Not Get the Girl: Justified, Algie was being manipulated by Lola so he'd do her homework for her and is cruelly dumped while she was flirting with Chad right in front of him. Jimmy even pats him on the back out of pity
  • Epic Fail: His attempts at insults - smelly head, loser-pants, mayo stain...
  • Has a Type: According to Earnest, Algie likes blondes.
  • Hopeless Suitor: In the loading screen, he tries to ask out Pinky but she cruelly rejects him. In the game itself, he falsely believes Lola is interested in him and learns in the worst way possible that he's only an asset to her.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Even though Algie is famously unpopular in Bullworth, he truly believed that Lola had a crush on him even though she is A) openly promiscuous, B) manipulative, and C) is still dating Johnny Vincent (who is very protective of Lola and quick to anger).
  • Humiliation Conga: In chapter 3, not only does he find out that his crush only saw him as a means to an end (rather cruelly as well as she outright humiliates him while flirting with a preppie), he has to ride a girl's bike back to the academy while being pursued by bloodthirsty greasers. You can even hear a distraught Algie mumbling "Why me?" and "Of course" when told to take the bike.
  • Hypocritical Humor: He tells Petey in Stronghold Assault that the Nerds wouldn't accept him into their ranks because he's weird, despite his weak bladder and poor social skills being the subject of much mockery at Bullworth.
  • Jerkass Ball: Some missions will have Algie being one of the nicer nerds, while other missions will show Algie being completely ungrateful and siding against Jimmy because everyone else is.
  • Kiddie Kid: He still refers to his mother as "mommy" and is very gullible and emotionally sensitive in a way that's more in line with a much younger child, complete with the social awkwardness and easily-trusting nature.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: In Chapter 4, he directs Jimmy to the carnival, and rather than explain everything in one cutscene or tag along, he simply tells Jimmy to just access the control rooms through the maintenance doors and then "Do your thing."
  • Meaningful Name: Algie sounds like algae, eukaryotic organisms that are found on underwater surfaces. Algie is on the very bottom of the social totem pole and he frequently wets himself.
  • Momma's Boy: Algie's mother spoiled him horribly before he came to Bullworth, and it's part of why he so completely fails to fit in.
  • Nerd Glasses: His comically oversized coke bottle glasses.
  • Nice Guy: Lack of social skills aside, he's probably the least pretentious and egocentric of the nerds and genuinely friendly to boot.
  • No Social Skills: His shorts are always unzipped and his mother was said to have spoiled him so much that he fails to fit in at Bullworth. The inventory description for Algernon's jacket even references his social ineptitude.
Hopeless dorky, this jacket belongs to Algernon.
  • Potty Failure: Algie is famous in Bullworth for having a weak bladder, as he often wets himself in public.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: Especially in the mission 'Save Algie'. His cries for help when a bully gets near him could shatter glass.
  • Shout-Out: Possibly named after the titular lab mouse of Flowers for Algernon.
  • Spoiled Sweet: It's heavily implied that his social ineptitude was a result of his mother smothering him and spoiling him so much that he fails to adapt to Bullworth's dog-eat-dog society. That being said. Algie is one of the nicer nerds and he does look out for his friends by hiring Jimmy to help.
  • Taught by Experience: By chapter 4, he knows Jimmy better than everyone and when he directs Jimmy to the Funhouse, he simply tells him to "Do your thing" after accessing the control room.
  • Totally Radical: In a bid to try and look cooler, he starts trying to speak (painfully) in Jive. He only stops if he's spoken to in the way he normally speaks.
Algernon: Yo, Jimmy, I'm over here! Gimme five, dude!
    Jimmy: Ahh, no.
Algernon: Heh, heh... Yeah, well, cat, looks like your homies took care of some lames for us.
Jimmy: What are you talking about?
Algernon: Don't get fresh wit' your homies!
Jimmy: Can you please talk normally?
Algernon: This is mah normal style of rapping, bro. Hoo, hoo, hoo!
Jimmy: Alright, enough! WHAT'S MY QUEST?
Algernon: Ah, right. Salutations, sir James!

"First you rescued my notes from Mandy and then we fell in love, you brought me flowers and wrote me poetry, and showed this kinder, sensitive side that soon the whole world is gonna know about! We're like doomed lovers!"
A shy student that is the main target for Mandy’s bullying. She's the first girl that Jimmy can romance through helping.
  • Allegedly Dateless: The story itself makes it known that she can't get the attention of many boys as one of the Nerds, and Jimmy is off-put by her offer to kiss him. He still won't have many qualms about kissing her for health during gameplay, and she can still be kissed by any boy during freeroam.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Downplayed. She is one of the nicest girls on campus, but she threatens to start a rumor about Jimmy being a peeping Tom if he doesn't retrieve her chemistry notes. This becomes Hilarious in Hindsight because a later mission requires Jimmy to be a peeping tom to capture pictures of Mandy.
  • Covert Pervert: Her diary contains a Hurricane of Euphemisms for sex with Jimmy.
  • A Degree in Useless: One of her greatest fears.
Beatrice: My fear is that I'll end up working in a bookstore when I'm 30 because all I have is a Master's degree from some Liberal Arts college!
  • For Great Justice: She is obviously not gutsy enough to directly take action, but she'll snitch out wrongdoers out of a sense of justice:
Beatrice: When I witness an act of injustice taking place, I feel it is my duty to report it to the authorities. Beat. Without expecting rewards, or acknowledgment.
  • Hysterical Woman: She falls into this trope when she feels insecure about not getting into Medical School. Plus, like all the nerds, she isn't gutsy at all. And then there are those times when she starts panicking from being the Butt-Monkey.
  • Motor Mouth: Combined with Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness, she talks really fast.
  • Nerd Glasses: Her teal cat-eye glasses.
  • Nerds Are Sexy: Subverted. In cutscenes, Jimmy is rather turned off by her geekiness, and is reluctant to kiss her. During gameplay, however, the player can kiss her and flirt with her as often as they like, and Jimmy's dialogue generally implies that he's turned on by her geekiness.
  • Oblivious to Love: It's implied that Bucky has a crush on her because of how angry he gets when Beatrice talks about her infatuation with Jimmy. Beatrice sees him as just a friend and hasn't picked up on his feelings. However, it is possible to see Beatrice and Bucky holding hands and kissing outside the library, so either Beatrice finally noticed him or the events of the game gave Bucky the courage to ask her out.
  • Out of Focus: She only appears in four missions and does not appear in the rest of the game, she doesn't even appear in the Nerds' revenge against the Jocks.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: Commonly talks in free-roam in long and detailed prose. Averted in her mission appearances.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Defied; she openly has contempt for the idea of trying.
  • The Friends Who Never Hang: She only appears to be friends with Bucky and the two appear to be dating during Endless Summer. Other than that, she only appears twice with the other Nerds in Character Sheets and Rats in the Library.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Hence why there's a mission where you have to clear the Library (the Nerd hangout) of rats:
Beatrice: No! No rats! Please (sobbing)! Oh (sobbing)!

"You think I'm just gonna lie down and take it? Fat chance, scuzz-ball!"
A rather loud nerd with a crush on Beatrice.
  • Baths Are Fun: One of his quotes is "Al-RIGHT! Tonight is bath night! And then I can watch TV til 10."
  • Book Dumb: He struggles with his grades but was able to invent a bottle rocket launcher that looks professionally designed.
  • Clock King: Apparently obsessed with keeping track of time, evident with the three watches he wears and brags about.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Beatrice notes that he gets irritable when she mentions Jimmy, specifically her infatuation with him.
  • Just Friends: Beatrice is oblivious to his obvious feelings for her. However, in Endless Summer, you can find Bucky and Beatrice holding hands and kissing outside the library so it's either a glitch or two went to something more than friends.
  • Nerd Glasses: His bronze oval-shaped glasses.
  • No Indoor Voice: Not as loud as Troy, but most of what he says is in a rather loud tone.
  • Weapon Specialization: His bottle rocket launcher. He can occasionally be seen wielding one in free roam, and he hands Jimmy one if he beats Fatty's Con-Sumo high score. He uses it against Jimmy in Stronghold Assault and then blasts Jocks with it when the Jocks assault the observatory in Defender Of The Castle.

"Oh, can't you just get lost!"
Member of the theater club who carries a 4.0 grade average. Played an amazing Juliet at the school play.
  • Black and Nerdy: The only black member of the Nerds.
  • Camp Bi: Jimmy can seduce him, and he seems to go gaga for boys giving him romantic presents. Talk around the school says he played a dead-on Juliet in the school play. He also has an unrequited crush on Mandy.
  • Expy: Some people say they see him as an Expy of Steve Urkel
  • Nerd Glasses: The same pair as Earnest's, only with a lighter colour.
  • Twofer Token Minority: The token Black as well as homosexual/bisexual of the nerds.

    Donald Anderson

"I'm a straight A student. Beat that!"
Voiced by: Jimmy Walsh
A disgruntled student who keeps tabs on people he despises.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Well, beware the mild-mannered ones. Donald is the stereotypical rage-filled nerd and he keeps a meticulous list of people he hates, claiming that they'll all be sorry one day.
  • Nerd Glasses: His bronze half-moon glasses, which are smaller than Cornelius and Earnest's.
  • Insufferable Genius: He loves to call people idiots and put up his own intelligence while denigrating other peoples.
  • Shorter Means Smarter: A nerd that's particularly arrogant about his intelligence, and also particularly short.
  • Tiny Schoolboy: The shortest character in the game who's not a little kid.

"We're doomed! The Jocks are coming!"
A fat nerd with a penchant for eating. He's also Jimmy's sparring partner during wrestling classes.
  • Big Eater: Once seen bolting down chocolate and smearing it all over his face; Trent claims that once he tried to give Fatty a wedgie and found a piece of pizza in his pants. However, some dialogue indicates he eats to relieve himself from his parents' constant bickering.
  • The Glasses Come Off: Inverted - He's a competent fighter for a nerd when he fights, but he doesn't even do anything when wrestling and is basically just a walking punching bag for Jimmy.
  • Gonk: His beta version was even worse - Francois was fatter than Fatty and didn't have his pants pulled up. As shown in his page image, he has facial resemblance to a pig.
  • Nerd Glasses: The same pair as Bucky's except in a darker colour.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: He calls himself Fatty, even on the School Yearbook. (A beta version of the character was named François.)
  • Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe: Not as much as Melvin but still.
    Fatty: I shall maim thee!

"And you can have your pick of my wenches."

"Your quest, young Jimmy is perilous but the rewards are glorious!"
Supposedly the second-in-command of the clique. He introduces further focus to the Grottoes & Gremlins game and asks Jimmy to recover his character sheets.
  • Abusive Dad: His father sent him to Bullworth in order to toughen him up. Melvin disagreed and saw the act as misguided.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Tends to get confused and forget he's not a character in an MMORPG.
  • The Dragon: According to the strategy guide and data files, Melvin is actually the second in command of The Nerds. In the game, however, he isn't acknowledged as such.
  • Hidden Depths: He may have the wildest imagination, but social-skill wise, he's one of the most normal nerds; he uses regular insults and uses slang at appropriate times which serve as a sharp contrast with his fellow nerds (especially Algie).
  • Mr. Imagination: He gets a little too into role-playing games and chooses to talk like a stereotypical quest giver in an RPG. During "The Big Game", Jimmy will tell him to cut it out as it had gotten boring and annoying.
  • Nerd Glasses: The same pair as Fatty.
  • I Want to Be a Real Man: Subverted, his father enrolled him in Bullworth so he'd toughened up by the rampant bullying and abusive teachers. Something Melvin sees as misguided.
  • Misery Builds Character: His dad enrolled him in Bullworth just so he can be toughened up by bullies.
  • The Roleplayer: Believes that roleplaying is the high point of human achievement.
  • Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe: Slips into it while roleplaying.

    Thad Carlson

Thad Carlson

"I'll aid you in your battle against evil!"
Voiced by: Kevin Cahoon
"Your brawn cannot defeat my brain!"
The most aggressive of the nerds, which has earned him some respect from the other cliques at Bullworth.
  • Badass Bookworm: He's just as weak as the other nerds, but he tends to have a yardstick on hand, allowing him to fight much more competently. He also seems to have built something of a reputation among the other students, despite being a member of the lowest clique in the Bullworth hierarchy. Fittingly enough, he’s the only nerd seen in Character Sheets to actually help Jimmy fight the Bullies while their leader Earnest is nowhere to be found and his supposed second-in-command Melvin at the Library.
  • Big Little Brother: He's stated to be the younger brother of Dan of the Jocks and he's about a head taller than him.
  • Blood Knight: A more downplayed example - while he isn't exactly a strong fighter, he's mentioned as MacGyvering things into weapons and often carries a yardstick with him. He also the one who often acts territorial to other students near the library and will often attack other students unprovoked.
  • Brick Joke: Troy will make mention of him in passing, saying that he built a grenade out of an eraser. Later, you can hear Thad explains it by placing firecrackers inside of them. As freeroam dialogue, it can happen in the other order as well.
  • Cain and Abel: Downplayed. His brother is Dan, who is on the football team and part of the clique that targets the nerds.
  • Carry a Big Stick: Thad's weapon is a yardstick.
  • Covert Pervert: Surprisingly, Thad's found to be the one who's wallpapering Bullworth Town with nude posters of Mandy.
  • Defiant to the End: Unlike the other nerds, Thad will fight back and try to go out fighting. According to school rumours, he broke a yardstick over Peanut's head and the other greasers let him walk away. Either because they respected his bravado, or were too stunned to fight back.
  • Fiery Redhead: A Spirited Competitor, playing on the Nerd's dodgeball team and the only Nerd to always fight rather than cower, at least during missions.
  • Foreign Cuss Word: If he should crash a bike he's riding, he may shout "Oh scheiße!"—German for 'shit.'
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Apparently, he's one of the key weapons-makers of the Nerds; according to Troy, he built a grenade out of an eraser.
  • Nerd Glasses: His brown oblong-shaped glasses, which are much more crooked compared to the others. He also wears ski-glasses when playing Dodgeball.
  • Noodle Incident: Whatever happened between him, Peanut, and a yardstick. Apparently, it didn't hurt Peanut enough, according to the other Nerds, and the Preps were only mildly happy.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: As well as being a lot more aggressive than most Nerds, Thad reportedly attacked Peanut Romano a year before the game began, hitting him hard enough to break his yardstick over Peanut's head. For good measure, he managed to escape a beating from the Greasers in spite of this.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Rumor has it that he once bashed Peanut Romano over the head with a yardstick with such force that it actually broke in half, and got away with it scot free.
  • Sibling Rivalry: He and Dan are on rivaling cliques (Thad is a nerd and Dan is a jock) and they will often fight each other.
  • Speech Impediment: Speaks like this.
Thith time, I am furiouth. I'm gonna kick your ath!
