Elliot Ness

  • The Alcoholic: His drink of choice is whiskey, although he can recognize quality wine at a glance. He used to drink a lot, but the player can choose to keep him sober.
  • Always Save the Girl: Possibly. Ness can choose to take a great personal risk to save Capone's assistant, Susan from two armed men looking to kill her.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: He is calm and analytical, looking at everything that happens in a scene.
  • Bandage Mummy: Invoked when Ness disguises himself as Oskar. Interestingly, while Oskar recently had facial reconstructive surgery, a dose of Truth in Television occurs, as most people who have surgery need to keep their faces covered for months.
  • Deadpan Snarker: All the time.
Ness: He's an old man now. At most, he'll challenge me to a race to the nearest park bench.
  • Defective Detective: In his past, he was considered to be one, since he couldn't solve a case of nine kidnapped children. However, he is certainly capable of brilliant feats of deduction in the present day.
  • Discretion Shot: Ness changes clothes oncamera, but the camera focuses on his bare calves.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Ness can get some pretty good headshots through gameplay, but the real clincher is when the masked cultist breaks into the cable car. Ness is able to load a tossed bullet and shoot the guy in under two seconds.
  • My Greatest Failure: The deaths of his four comrades, including Dockers.
  • Religious Bruiser: Eliot frequently swears to God or Christ, and can have the option to discuss his faith in the ruins of a church.
  • Revolvers Are Just Better: Ness's weapon of choice.
  • Waistcoat of Style: Never goes anywhere without it. Given that it's the 40s, not an unusual style.
  • What Measure Is a Mook?: Ness is required to mow down dozens of gun-toting enemies, but doesn't have to kill certain captured targets. All of whom mock Ness if he doesn't do so, stating he can't kill anyone.

Alphonse Capone

  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Dotes on his granddaughter, Sofia. A younger Capone was the same way with his son, Vittorio.
  • Handicapped Badass: He appears to be blind in his right eye, but he can still shoot.
  • Heartbroken Badass: His son Vittorio died, and Capone was greatly affected by his death. He also cares very much that Sofia is missing.
  • Hot-Blooded: Kills Oskar, and nearly kills Ivankov, nearly missing his chance to rescue his loved ones.
  • Promoted to Playable: The player can choose to control Ness or Capone during the gunfight on the Hindenberg.
  • Shotguns Are Just Better: His weapon of choice when fighting through the goons on his airship.
