Reflector Form

Voiced by: Kanako Yanagihara

The main heroine of the game. While walking to school for supplementary classes during summer vacation, she drops her phone and backtracks to retrieve it. Upon doing so, she sees a message from an unknown sender that says, "Be reborn..." Upon arriving at school, she finds it mostly empty and- upon trying to leave- discovers herself having been sent to Oasis.

  • Actually, I Am Him: The normal ending heavily implies that she received the message to "Be Reborn..." from her alternate past/future self. It's complicated.
  • All-Loving Hero: She's able to get along with everyone at Oasis, leading to the girls to choose her as the leader.
  • Audience Surrogate: Most of her interests and past are reflected in what the player will choose for her answers during dates with the other characters.
  • Breaking Old Trends: The previous protagonists, Hinako Shirai and Hiori Hirahara, have very similar designs. Ao sets herself apart with a darker, edgier outfit and a scythe as her weapon instead of a sword.
  • Can't Drop the Hero: Subverted in that she can fall back from the front lines, but she's also the only one who can easily shield the party from attacks that would reset the Combo count.
  • Chuunibyou: Ao used to go through a chuuni phase during her middle school (which the localization translates as a "goth phase"), where she would proclaim herself "Moon Shadow" and pretend that her diary is a cursed eldritch tome. While she has mostly grown out of it, it still influences her choice of manga and her Reflector form. She even invokes the classic "evil eye" trope both in her diary and in one of her special attacks.
  • Classical Anti-Hero: Despite being voted the leader of the group, Ao still feels like she is more plain and ordinary than the rest of the group.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: Compared to the serious, hardworking, and melancholic Hinako, Ao is a lively, lazy, and sociable young lady. She also doesn't have to deal with traumatic past events like Hinako and Hiori do. Her date events with Hinako emphasize the contrast between Ao's envy of her talents and Hinako's desire to live and be treated like a normal girl, with both helping each other grow as people.
  • Crazy Enough to Work: In a scene added to v1.05, she's put in charge of adding more to the school development. After hearing the suggestions for a night pool, fireworks display, and hot air balloon, she decides the only correct choice from the three is all of them. The girls soon agree with her.
  • Critical Hit Class: Her moves revolve around increasing critical hit chances or benefiting from them.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Her uniform and Reflector outfit colors are much darker than all of the other characters' and her Ether Strike utilizes dark energy, but Ao herself is far from evil. Overall, her dark motif may act as foreshadowing to her connection to Origin, whom itself is in league with the World System.
  • Death of a Thousand Cuts: The final strike in her One-on-One finisher has her slash her scythe once, but the enemy receives numerous cuts at the same time.
  • Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: Played straight during her moments of self-doubt and Played for Laughs when she declares that not having a finishing move is like having a strawberry shortcake without strawberries.
  • Exact Words: Lime tells Ao that she is an unknown entity who was never recorded in the Common, which is basically a registry of all humans born in the "past and present," specifically leaving the future out of the equation. Guess what time Ao was born.
  • Final Boss: In a sense. It is implied that the last demon faced in the game is a form of her Fragment or alternate self, sent as a trial to test Ao's resolve to continue the Stable Time Loop (or break the time loop in New Game Plus), similar to how Daath battled Hinako to test humanity's worthiness.
  • The Grim Reaper: The main motif of her Reflector Form, with her black dress, scythe, and one single skeletal wing. It comes from her obsession with the Death God Theory manga series.
  • The Heart: Ultimately, she realizes what's truly important is not her perception of being special, but the bonds she shares with everyone. In turn, everyone admires her and appoints her leader simply being a very compassionate and understanding person. This doesn't mean she's perfect at this role. Hinako and Yuki call her out for being insensitive in their hand-holding events, and she realizes that Mio's guilt is something she can't automatically heal alone. But she acknowledges her mistakes and learns to be more understanding. In fact, she admits to Uta that even she fails at empathy sometimes, helping the latter realize that Lack of Empathy doesn't make her a bad person.
  • Heroic BSoD: After the events in Uta's Heartscape nearly get Oasis destroyed at the end of Chapter 7, she begins to greatly doubt her capabilities as the group's leader.
  • Hero-Worshipper: She initially latches on to Hinako due to Hinako being everything she wants to be: a gifted girl with an exciting life. Eventually, Hinako asks her to drop the act and treat her as a friend instead. Her inner narration reveals she also sees Rena this way despite how much she teases her, admiring her intelligence and honesty.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Her main motivation is to be anything but a "normal" girl. This is probably also the root cause of her chuuni phase.
  • Jack of All Stats: The game itself describes her as well-rounded in everything, though her skills are mostly for offense.
  • Just a Kid: If she comments about not liking sour things when picking up certain items, Rena will outright state she still has the palette of a child.
  • Meaningful Name: Ao in kanji is 愛央, "love" and "center" respectively, which is appropriate for a flirty Magnetic Hero. Her name is also homophonic with 青, or blue.
  • Multiple-Choice Past: Used as a game mechanic. Details of her past are determined by the player during dialogue options while on dates. With the eventual reveal that Ao is a time traveler stuck in a Stable Time Loop, it implies that the player is determining what might be true in a given iteration of her life.
  • Mysterious Stranger: In the eyes of the administrators. As Yuzu and Lime reveal to her late in the story, she shouldn't exist in Oasis because she never actually existed in the original world prior to its destruction. Mio speculates that she may be a time traveler from the future.
  • Only Sane Man: Only during the Resonance Tide attack animations because they're so off-the-wall even she has no idea what's going on.
  • Outside-the-Box Tactic: Excels at coming up with these, which is a major reason she became leader. A World System sending an antivirus program to destroy the world and all life in it? Instead of fighting the antivirus, which other characters have fruitlessly attempted, she proposes instead rewriting the system to restore the world.
  • Proud to Be a Geek: She isn't afraid of expressing her love for manga and light novels, in contrast with Rena's Closet Geek attitude.
  • Rookie Red Ranger: Despite being one of the youngest members, as well as never being a Reflector prior to coming to the Oasis, Ao is still voted as the group's leader.
  • Screw Destiny: What she proposes when faced with the end of the world: rather than trying to fight it directly or passively accepting defeat, hack the World System to reset it back to its original state. Unfortunately, this requires her to sacrifice herself to a Stable Time Loop in the normal ending. The True Ending has her encourage herself to Screw Destiny and find a way to break the time loop.
  • Sinister Scythe: Her weapon of choice. In one event she states that it was most likely influenced by all of the action manga she read while growing up.
  • Stable Time Loop: The normal ending reveals that she's put herself in one of these by constantly sending herself to Oasis and leading the girls to recreate the world as it was.
  • The Tease: Her dialogues during dates show that she likes to playfully tease and flirt with the other girls.
  • The Watson: She has the backstories of the previous protagonists explained to her, allowing players who jump into the series with Second Light to catch up with the story.

    Kokoro Utsubo

Kokoro Utsubo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brt_utsubo_kokoro_01.jpg

Reflector Form

Voiced by: Tomoyo Takayanagi

The first girl that Ao meets upon arriving at Oasis. Along with Rena and Yuki, she was among the first three to awaken there without her memories and is the first to get her Heartscape connected, kickstarting the plot and the chain of events that lead to finding out the truth of the world.

  • Badass Adorable: One of the sweetest girls in the cast who (at Shiho's urging) took up karate and fights with a long-barreled rifle!
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Her One-on-One finisher is actually terrifying: She kicks the enemy into the air, takes several shots with her rifle, leaps into the air after it, knocks it back down to the ground with the butt of her rifle, lands on top of it, and unloads even more rounds into it at point-blank range!
  • Big Eater: Discussed throughout character events but best-exemplified when her most-embarrassing memory is revealed to be the one where she ate all of the Valentine's Day cupcakes she made for her class and friends. This is also why she isn't allowed on the cooking team despite being a great cook.
  • Big Red Button: Her Resonance Tide attack is unleashed by her pressing one of these.
  • Colony Drop: Her Resonance Tide attack involves this with the colony being giant bales of rice.
  • Crutch Character: For the first half of the game, Kokoro stands out at the best damage dealer in your party. However, Hiori outclasses her in both offense and defense, not to mention that Hiori can exploit enemy weaknesses even better than she can.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She makes her first appearance in Blue Reflection Ray as an AASA Reflector.
  • Food as Bribe: Yuki easily brings her over to her side with a donut during a discussion on expanding the Extreme School Makeover project in a scene added to the 1.05 update.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Wears her hair with two short pigtails on each side to highlight her innocent nature.
  • Glass Cannon: She has a high attacking stat, compounded by her ability to make enemies weak against her attacks. However, she is very fragile.
  • Heroic BSoD: She has a brief one when Shiho- her best friend from childhood- is brought to Oasis and has no memories of her, leaving her in a state of shock and leaving Ao to show Shiho around.
  • Hidden Depths: She reveals that she knows how to cultivate and harvest rice, making it possible for the girls to grow their own food.
  • Implied Love Interest: While Ao has Ship Tease moments with everyone except the Shijou sisters, Kokoro is the first girl she meets and the one who she has the most interaction with. She is also the only character to not be paired with anyone who isn't Ao (like Rena with Yuki, Hinako with the Shinjou sisters, Uta with the Hirahara sisters, and Shiho with Kirara.)
  • Impossible Hourglass Figure: She has an incredibly large bust and wide hips, yes her waist is just as slim as everyone else.
  • Meaningful Name: Kokoro means "heart," and she is one of the kindest characters. She is also surrounded by heart symbols when she transforms.
  • Nerves of Steel: Outright invoked by Ao when Kokoro tells her she doesn't understand why people are afraid of haunted houses.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Ao will tease her and only her about her most-embarrassing memory of eating all the cakes she made for her friends long after the events where revealing those memories were relevant to the plot.
  • Shrinking Violet: She was incredibly shy as a child, which means she had trouble asking for help from Shiho when bullies picked on her. Nowadays she is also timid but can still take charge when the situation demands.
  • Taught by Experience: She got so good at festival shooting games that she was barred from them lest she drive them out of business. She tells Ao that that is why she uses a gun as a Reflector.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She mentions rice the most, and often feels upset if she goes multiple days without it.
  • Weight Woe: She is the one who expresses concern about her weight more often than the others, especially since she's already noticeably curvier than the other girls and leans towards being a tiny bit pudgy.

    Rena Miyauchi

Rena Miyauchi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brt_miyauchi_rena_01.jpg
Reflector Form

Voiced by: Maki Kawase

One of the three girls already living in Oasis when Ao arrives. Stern, mature, and reliable, she constantly aims to keep the rest of the girls in line and take their situation seriously. With her experience in rhythm gymnastics, she wields a large hoop in battle.

  • The Ace: A good student, star gymnast, artist, and well-versed in multiple scientific subjects. She is the main reason the initial three can get by so well before other girls arrive.
  • Bowdlerize: Her Reflector transformation includes an noticeably painted-on swimsuit during her outfit transition due to hers being one of the few that doesn't cut away from what would be her obviously-naked body.
  • Brutal Honesty: If she has something to say, she will not mince words. But she'll also do so out of Tough Love to encourage everyone- especially Ao- to not squander their potential. This ironically gets turned back on her if you pick her for the final day, as Ao rejects her claim of being satisfied with everything and tells her to embrace life rather than staying put with what she has.
  • Butt-Monkey: Goes through a lot of humiliation throughout the game, especially since Ao knows her well enough to push her buttons on a regular basis.
  • Closet Geek: Her most-embarrassing memory is of her stumbling onto a random anime while channel surfing, binge-watching it, and immediately buying a tablet in order to draw fan art.
  • Cool Big Sis: Ao comes to see her as this as they spend more time together.
  • Deadly Disc: Her One-on-One finisher involves her turning her hoop into a circular buzz-saw that she throws into the enemy.
  • Dynamic Character: Aside from possibly Ao, Rena is the character that changes the most, so much that by the end of the game, her initial two talent traits Calm, Cool, and Collected and Conservative Attitude no longer fit her that well. The former gets deconstructed as the other girls frequently turn out to be better at handling stressful situations than her, teaching her the value of others' help and perspectives. The latter turns out to be her Fatal Flaw which hinders her from making important decisions, and that she overcomes to be more courageous and confident as a result of the game's events and Ao's support. Her final event for reaching Talent Level 10 emphasizes how far she's come by having a literal shadow of her former self insist Ao is wrong and that she can only rely on herself, only for the more mature Rena to confront and comfort her by saying the people around her are so much stronger and kinder than her former self knows.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Telling the girls that they're crazy for willingly putting themselves in greater danger, then stating she'd best go along too to ensure their safety.
  • Fastball Special: Her Resonance Tide attack involves throwing her weapon into the enemy ranks... with Ao attached.
  • Flat "What": A visual Catchphrase for her is having this expression when she has to call the others out on their antics.
  • Gratuitous French: Her skill names are written in French.
  • I Will Find You: She dedicates herself to finding Yuki after she disappears from her life back in the real world, not knowing Yuki was already dead.
  • Improbable Weapon User: She fights with a giant gymnast hoop instead of a bladed weapon or gun. Appropriately she also has the lowest attack (also due to primarily being a support character in battle).
  • Leg Focus: Multiple girls comment on her legs with admiration, and her uniform has one of the shorter skirts on the cast. Indeed, her long legs were the first thing Yuki noticed.
  • Magikarp Power: Initially she is outclassed by Shiho both as a healer and as a damage dealer. Once you build the sunflower bed, however, she excels as a knock back dealer, making her an ideal choice if you want to focus on one-on-one battles.
  • Meaningful Name: Rena in kanji is 伶那, with 伶 meaning "actor." This fits how she acts harsher and more grounded than she actually is. It also reflects her relationship with Yuki, being able to see right through her acting and wanting to get to know the real her.
  • One Head Taller: She is one head taller than her lover Yuki.
  • Only Sane Man: She does her best to keep the rest of the girls in line and prevent them from taking unnecessary risks. Also exemplified in that her Resonance Tide attack can be considered the most "normal" of the group. Ultimately subverted and deconstructed as it turns out she's easily flustered and nowhere near as level headed as she initially appears, and freaks out at the prospect of facing her Heartscape whereas previous characters were more willing to go along with it. She even admits to Ao that her risk aversion is really her being afraid of making important decisions. Her final Talent Level 10 event completes the deconstruction. She believed herself the Only Sane Man among her group of researchers trying to stop the Ash because she worked tirelessly to save lives. When people told her to take a break, she thought they simply weren't caring enough about their work. But in reality, she was so self-absorbed in her work that she never considered how everyone else felt, how hard they were working themselves, or that they were trying to help her and that she could have accomplished more had she accepted their help. In the end, she comforts her past self because she now realizes the value in other people, assuring her they are stronger and kinder than she thinks.
  • Opposites Attract: The tall, serious Rena falls in love with the short, childish Yuki.
  • Not So Above It All: Happens very often. One of the more comedic examples: before fighting the training dummy, she gets annoyed at the others for bragging about having special moves and comparing it to something as silly as strawberry shortcake. Right after the battle, she announces "So this is our strawberry" and leads the fist pump indicating Ether Tides have been unlocked.
  • Statuesque Stunner: A good deal taller than the rest of the cast and very attractive. In one of her memories, a woman mistakes her for a model.
  • Stone Wall: She has high defense stats, but her attack stats are the lowest among the party.
  • Tsundere: Type B in that she will often try- and fail- to disguise her true feelings.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She's extremely afraid of ghosts and the supernatural, but has no problem fighting Demons.

    Shiho Kasuga

Shiho Kasuga

Voiced by: Emiri Sumaya

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brt_kasuga_shiho_01.jpg

Reflector Form

The first Reflector brought to Oasis after Ao and revealed to be Kokoro's childhood friend who had to move away after she beat up the bullies who destroyed their secret hideout.

  • The Atoner: The reason she is so focused on helping her family's cafe at the cost of her hobbies is because she feels guilty for causing her family to move away.
  • Chained by Fashion: She has multiple chains attached to her Reflector outfit.
  • Combat Medic: Her skills are primarily used for healing allies or recovering from Knockdown, but she's also very capable on offense.
  • The Dutiful Daughter: She helps out at her parents' cafe, and also very diligent when it comes to chores.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She and Kirara are major characters from the Blue Reflection Sun mobile game, which had yet to be released at the time of Second Light.
  • Elemental Hair Colors: Her Reflector Form's hair has pale blue tips at the end, giving it an icy appearance.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: In her Reflector outfit, she wears a thigh-high sock on one leg and wears part of her top off-shoulder.
  • The Fashionista: She gives fashion and makeup advice to all of the other girls, but refuses to wear makeup herself after the embarrassment from a botched repair job as a child left her mentally scarred.
  • Formal Characters Use Keigo: She has a very polite way of speaking. It is implied she picked up this habit from doing her job as a barista.
  • An Ice Person: Her sword attacks are imbued with ice elements, with every slash causing ice crystals to explode.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Outside of her Reflector duties, she is perfectly content to lead a normal, peaceful life. This puts her in contrast with Ao.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: She wields a stylized katanas as opposed to giant broadswords like Hinako's and Hiori's. Her skills are also written in Japanese instead of Gratuitous Foreign Language.
  • Luminescent Blush: She makes a lot of exaggerated blushing face when Ao hits on her, making her the favorite person for Ao to tease.
  • Kick Chick: She incorporates a lot of high flying kicks in addition to her swordplay. Her one-on-one finisher is a flurry of kicks.
  • Remember the New Guy?: She used to be friends with Hinako before the latter suffered her knee injury, yet Hinako never mentioned her in the first game.
  • Sword Plant: She plants her sword on the ground during her Transformation Sequence, complete with the cracks on the ground.
  • Supreme Chef: Her years of helping out at her family's cafe have given her plenty of practice and she has the passion to always want to improve her recipes.

    Hinako Shirai

Hinako Shirai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brt_hinako_artwork_01_6.jpg

Reflector Form

Voiced by: Yūki Takada

The main heroine of Blue Reflection who is brought to Oasis after Shiho recalls her memories of the two of them hanging out at her family's cafe. Upon regaining her memories and reuniting with Yuzu, the party is able to learn more about the origins of Oasis and the fate of the outside world.

  • Bag of Spilling: She lost a lot of levels between the last game and this one. In one event, she explains to Ao that she had not done any fighting as a Reflector since reflecting Daath.
  • BFS: She wields a crystal sword nearly as tall as herself.
  • Compressed Vice: Her impulsive behavior in Shiho's memory, where she decides on a whim to take a girl she just met on a train ride to an unknown and shady part of town, upon which she concludes they need to take things one step at a time. She never displayed such traits in the original game, nor shown any signs of getting so bored with her ballet life that she'd do something like that. To be fair, her story in this game does place greater emphasis on the less glamorous and more repressive aspects of her life while she was still a ballerina which were only lightly alluded to in the previous entry.
  • Dance Battler: She puts her ballet skills into good use in her Reflector form.
  • Deuteragonist: The game happens as a result of her actions from the first game and the greater plot could not proceed without her due to her relationship with the Shijou sisters. If Ao speaks to her in the ending, she expresses relief that her journey has reached its conclusion.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Her one-on-one Finishing Move has her close her eyes while standing perfectly balanced on a sword hilt as the enemy behind her explodes in a Michael Bay intensity explosion.
  • Fragile Speedster: Her role in combat is to quickly increase the Combo counter but her HP and Defense are lacking. Her damage output also pales in comparison with Kokoro, Hiori, and Ao, until she transforms into her Reflector form and gains the powerful Averse Bélier which calculates damage based on Speed, turning her into a Glass Cannon.
  • Gratuitous French: Her skill names are much the same as they were in the first game—all in French—and she will count in it during her Ether Strike.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Her character arc in this game is about trying to enjoy normal life with friends after ballet. Shiho's Heartscape reveals that even before her accident, she showed signs of wanting to get off her life path and saw it as an adventure to walk around unknown city streets with only someone she briefly met.
  • It's All My Fault: She blames herself for the heroines having to shelter in Oasis because of her actions in the first game.
  • Leg Focus: Ao explicity points out how attractive and toned her legs are in a shower scene and surmises they're the result of her ballet practice.
  • Pink Means Feminine: She's a graceful, soft-spoken young lady whose Reflector form is pink and white.
  • The Power of Friendship: Indirectly invoked by her when she explains that her most-cherished memories in her Heartscape are that of learning how to be a "normal" girl with Yuzu and Lime and how they literally gave her a new reason to live after being forced to give up ballet.
  • Previous Player-Character Cameo: The protagonist of the first game returns as a party member in the second.
  • Retcon: In the first game, it's stated she sustained her knee injury from a car accident. In her Heartscape memories, she sustains it during practice.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: She was this In-Universe for Shiho prior to the events of the game as, despite only hanging out with Shiho at her family's cafe for a few days, her actions and advice were enough to break Shiho out of her spiral of guilt from having to move.
  • Static Character: Compared to the rest of the cast, Hinako has the least amount of character development throughout the game, relatively speaking. Once she recovers her memory, she has no angst about her lost career in ballet and practically no anxiety about her own future, which used to be two of her core character traits in the first game. Justified, since Hinako has already completed her character arc as the previous protagonist. In fact, this sequel goes out of its way to reaffirm the choices she had made back then.
  • Throwing Off the Disability: Her knee injury never once bothers her, even when fighting outside of her Reflector form.
  • Tutu Fancy: Fittingly, she has a tutu incorporated into her Reflector outfit, allowing her to show off her ballet moves in combat.
  • Wave-Motion Gun: Her Resonance Tide attack involves firing one of these out of the horn of a giant phonograph while she dances on top of a record and Ao cranks the handle.

    Hiori Hirahara

Hiori Hirahara

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brt_hirahara_hiori_01.jpg

Reflector Form
Voiced by: Manaka Iwami

The main heroine of Blue Reflection Ray who is brought to Oasis after Kokoro recalls them once making wishes together for Tanabata. Upon arrival, her first instinct is to locate her missing older sister.

  • BFS: She wields a large sword identical to Hinako's in combat. Sometimes she can even summon a second copy.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Played with and Played for Laughs- Mio requests Ao build a mechanical animal ride for the school. The panda bear later shows up in Hiori's Resonance Tide attack.
  • Continuity Cameo: This trope goes for most of the game's cast (who each appeared or will appear in different Blue Reflection media), but special mention goes to Hiori, who was the protagonist of the anime and now returns as a full-on playable character.
  • Dual Wielding: Her weapon is versatile in that it can be used as a dual-bladed sword that can be split in two, or a two-handed broadsword. Her Finishing Strike utilizes the split swords to deliver several rapid-fire strikes.
  • Genki Girl: She is the most excitable and energetic girl among the combatants. One event involved her, Hinako, and Shiho exercising to keep themselves fit for fighting. The latter two are rendered tired from trying to keep up with Hiori while she complains they've only just finished their warmups.
  • Lightning Bruiser: By far the heaviest hitter in the game as her attack stat can reach over 400 before anyone else's reaches 300. She can also decrease enemy resistance to both of her attacking types.
  • Naïve Everygirl: She trusts people easily and constantly takes Ao's joke completely at face value, which Ao loves to tease her for.
  • Tareme Eyes: To highlight her naive personality and serve as a contrast to Mio.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Her mother's curry. It even serves as the catalyst to make her and Mio's Heartscape appear.

Non-Combatants

    Yuki Kinjou

Yuki Kinjou

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brt_yuki_kinjou_5.jpg

Voiced by: Yuu Serizawa

An upbeat, mischievous, energetic girl who is among the original three within Oasis when Ao arrives. Unlike Kokoro and Rena, however, she cannot fight and laments having to wait for everyone back at the school while they explore the Heartscape.

  • Amnesiac Lover: Even after Rena remembers her own feelings for Yuki, the latter still hasn't recovered her memories, or rather, Yuki deliberately tries to avoid her own memories to spare herself and Rena from the painful truth.
  • Cheshire Cat Grin: The most prone to these, courtesy of flashing them when thinking up some mischief.
  • Dead All Along: She died from Ash Syndrome shortly after meeting Rena, but was brought back to life by the World System to spy on Oasis.
  • Delicate and Sickly: Yuki grew up with a weak immune system and it is because of that she spent a long time in several hospitals in the real world, driving her to despise them. It made her especially vulnerable to the symptoms of Ash Syndrome, and hearing she had come down with it didn't even surprise her. Reina finding out this was what set her on the path to becoming a Reflector to cure Yuki but she ended up passing away not long after.
  • Fun Personified: She takes on this role to have as much fun as she possibly can each and every day... as she has no clue if it will be her last or not.
  • Gratuitous English: She peppers her speech with English phrases such as "thank you," "let's go," and "bye bye."
  • Height Angst: She is shown to be conscious about her short height, mostly because other girls, especially Ao, tend to treat her like a kid because of it.
  • Irony: At the beginning of the game, she shows appreciation at the "mature appeal" of the nurse's office. After regaining her memories, she grows to despise it because it reminds her of the time she was hospitalized.
  • Meaningful Name: Yuki in kanji is 勇希, "courage" and "hope" respectively, shown by how she's constantly taking initiative for her bold schemes, trying to support everyone as the comic relief, and overcoming her fears of mortality and missing out on life. It also fits how Rena gains these two traits through her love for Yuki.
  • The Mole: Sent to Oasis by the World System in order to keep tabs on it and wait for an opening to strike.
  • Odango Hair: As seen in her image, she always wears her hair this way.
  • Opposites Attract: The short, childish Yuki falls in love with the tall, serious Rena.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: Intentionally plays this role. She's constantly coming up with mischievous pranks and schemes to lighten the mood. Even as a child, she would take up ventriloquism to entertain the other hospital children. Ironically, she has one of the two darkest storylines of all the girls, but even when faced with her self-doubt shadow, she just laughs herself off, saying "I'm pretty tough to deal with, huh?" and lectures herself about facing her fears.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Unintentional, but her Heartscape reveals her initial impression of Rena was that she had so much in life, yet never stopped complaining about everything, which annoyed her because her weak immune system limited her ability to experience so much of life. She never revealed that to her directly because of her habit of lying to protect others' feelings. Ironically, that made it come off worse than if she actually talked with her about that.
  • Stepford Smiler: She puts on a Genki Girl attitude during both her time in the real world and her time in the Oasis. In truth, she is depressed and scared about her Ash Syndrome and death. Rena wishing to see her true self is what makes her fall in love with Rena. This even applies on a meta level. Her regular final day speech has her excited to experience life in the new world, but if you got her to T.Lv 10 and saw her final scene in the Heartscape, she immediately appends that by admitting Ao saw right through her and she's still afraid of being left behind and dying again.
  • Suicide by Cop: After regaining her memories, she tries to goad the party into killing her since she believes that her very existence is putting everyone she cares about in danger. Fortunately, Rena and Ao would have none of this and swear to save her.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Played for Laughs with her reaction to learning that Yuko's been the one stealing from their food supply every so often.

    Kirara Kuno

Kirara Kuno

Voiced by: Yuuko Oono

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brt_kirara_kuno.jpg

One of the girls brought to Oasis after Shiho recalls working with her. Alongside having psychic powers, she joins the cooking team.

  • A-Cup Angst: During one of her dates she says that she would like to swap bodies with Kokoro because, in her own words, "She has what I don't have." During another date at the shrine, she prays for a "sexier body."
  • Brought Down to Normal: She is unable to hear the Divine while in Oasis, leading her Character Development to focus on establishing her own identity.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She and Shiho are major characters from the Blue Reflection Sun mobile game, which had yet to be released at the time of Second Light.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: As part of her backstory, she had to choose between disobeying her father or betraying her only friend.
  • Messianic Archetype: In-Universe, her father set her up as this after realizing he could use her powers for political gain.
  • Playful Cat Smile: Much more often than the other girls, to the point of it being her default expression in her character portrait.
  • Psychic Powers: She is able to hear the voices of "the Divine," and has used that information to help people numerous times.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: She ultimately chose to defy her father's orders and not betray her only friend by revealing that the one who broke her village's cherished urn was the mayor's son, which was the truth.
  • So Proud of You: While exploring her Heartscape, all of the girls express how proud they are of her when they learn she chose to defy her father (who was using her for her powers for political gain) rather than betray her only friend.
  • Third-Person Person: She refers to herself in the third person to highlight her childlike personality.
  • Token Mini-Moe: The shortest in the cast and easily capable of being described as, "Outright cute."

Hiori's older sister who was once a Red Reflector. She is also the only girl to be recovered within a Heartscape itself- one she shares with Hiori- rather than summoned directly into Oasis.

  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Subverted as she initially appears to be one, but actually opens herself up to everyone quite readily.
  • The Atoner: She feels guilty over her actions from the anime and seeks to do anything she can to make up for them.
  • Brought Down to Normal: She is unable to access her Reflector form and join in battles, relegating her to a support role.
  • My Beloved Smother: She tries to coddle Hiori at every opportunity because of her guilt as a former Red Reflector. This unfortunately makes Hiori feel uncomfortable and avoid her.
  • Cannot Tell a Joke: She attempts to in a couple of her conversations with Ao, only to completely fall flat.
  • Not So Above It All: Unlike Rena, she'll occasionally join Ao in doing something silly.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: During one conversation, Mio takes a wild guess that Ao arrived to Oasis from the future, due to the inconsistencies of Ao's life experiences compared to everyone else, like living in a world where the Ash never fell. Later revelations, such as the universe already being 99% destroyed by the Ash, seem to discount this possibility. No one could have predicted that Ao was actually from the future of a rewritten timeline.
  • Supreme Chef: Due to her experience in cooking meals for Hiori, she joins the cooking team.
  • Team Mom: She quickly grows into this role as the group grows closer together.
  • Tranquil Fury: Exhibits this when Ao goes a tad too far with her antics for her. As Ao notes, she is very scary when she's angry.
  • Tsurime Eyes: As part of how she contrasts from Hiori, and she is the only cast member to have them at all.
  • The Unsmile: Played for Laughs in one scene where she exhibits a very rare Playful Cat Smile for her. Ao notes it's actually pretty disturbing.

The final Reflector summoned to Oasis. Hiori and Mio immediately recognize her as a threat due to her being an unrepentant Red Reflector, but losing her memories has left her a completely different person. Despite that, those who fought her previously are very hesitant to trust her.

  • Amnesiac Dissonance: Prior to losing her memories, she was a villainous sadomasochist who enjoyed spreading and receiving pain. After losing her memories, she becomes a kind and gentle girl who is disturbed by her inability to naturally comprehend the emotions of other people. She decides she wants to stay that way after regaining her old memories.
  • Amnesiacs are Innocent: After losing her memory, Uta comes to the Oasis as a much more gentle person. She makes great efforts to get along with others despite having trouble understanding people.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Like Mio, she cannot access her Reflector form and just supports the frontline team from behind the scenes.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Losing her memories drastically changes her personality from how she was in the anime. By the time she gets them back, she's decided to not return to her old ways.
  • Hidden Depths: After she asks Ao to build a grand piano, Ao suggests she try playing it. And she is very, very good. Ultimately revealed to be muscle memory from when she played the organ before losing her memories.
  • Lack of Empathy: Non-villainous example within the context of the game. She's incapable of understanding how other people feel and seeks to better understand it as part of her character arc.
  • Laughing Mad: During a flashback to her first "Pain feels good!" moment in her Heartscape, showcasing what she became before losing her memories.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name means "Song" in Japanese and it's revealed that she's musically inclined.
  • My Greatest Failure: After regaining her memories and undergoing her Character Development, she reveals to Ao that her biggest regret is not reaching an understanding with her grandmother before she died.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Inverted. Kokoro and Shiho mention having experience in battling her when she was a Red Reflector, despite there being no direct interactions between them in the anime.
  • Proper Tights with a Skirt: As seen in her image.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Subverted. Hiori and Mio expect her to return to how she was in the anime when she regains her memories, but she makes the conscious decision to change.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Hiori after she gets her memory back and parts of her original personality start surfacing.
  • When She Smiles: Ao notes that, when she smiles naturally near the end of her character arc, that it is very bright and beautiful.

An amnesiac girl that none of the initial four in Oasis know or recognize. She tends to appear and disappear suddenly while making cryptic statements and has an inherent distrust of Ao. Hinako reveals her true name and identity after getting her memories back.

  • Big Good: Along with Lime, as the two of them created Oasis together as a last refuge for the Reflectors.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Maintaining Oasis leaves her unable to martial enough strength to transform.
  • Continuity Nod: Hiori recognizes her and recalls their interactions in the anime.
  • Food as Bribe: After Hinako regains her memories of her and her sweet tooth, she proposes crafting a crepe to lure her out of hiding so they can talk.
  • Line-of-Sight Name: When the girls don't know her real name, Kokoro tells Ao that they named her Yuko, "Because she looks like a Yukonote ."
  • Miss Exposition: If she's involved in a scene after meeting back up with Hinako, chances are she's there to provide exposition.
  • She's Back: After crafting the Teddy Bear as requested by ReSource, Yuzu gets her memories of Hinako back and reverts to her Genki Girl personality.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: She'll do this with everyone until finally being cornered by Hinako after the latter gets her memories back.

    ReSource

ReSource - Lime/Raimu Shijou

The Oasis's assistant program that delivers messages and information to the girls when they ask questions about their living conditions. Eventually revealed to be a part of Lime Shijou's personality that she separated from herself after Yuzu lost her memories and before she went to sleep in order to preserve her energy while maintaining Oasis.

  • Big Good: Lime has been using her emotional energy to maintain Oasis and spends a good chunk of the game asleep until all of the gathered Reflectors can pool their energy and ease her burden.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Same as Yuzu, maintaining Oasis leaves her unable to martial enough strength to transform.
  • Heroic RRoD: Lime herself is asleep for most of the game after using too much energy to create Oasis. What's left of her as ReSource also gets shut down for a couple of chapters after an attempted invasion by the World System and needs to reboot.
  • Not So Above It All: She questions taking precious time to throw a welcoming party for everyone near the end of the game, only for Yuzu to point out she's been the one having the most fun.
  • Plausible Deniability: She blames the fact that she and ReSource have completely different personalities on losing her memories.
  • Trickster Mentor: As ReSource, she often gives cryptic advice or answers in order to drive the girls to find things out for themselves and often grow stronger as a result.
