Awesome Music / Oceanfalls

Go To

Oceanfalls' soundtrack takes obvious video game music influences, due to the RPG-y nature of the comic itself.

Volume 1

  • The first soundtrack album, made by the author Nights, consists of tracks originally meant for the cancelled videogame. Considering that these tracks are years old, the fact that they still hold up until now is amazing. The silhouettes of all the not yet known characters, coupled with their respective tracks, just hypes readers up for their introduction.
  • "—— In The Beginning ——" acts as Nino's theme, and fits his character for Act 1. With flute play, RPG sounds, and a soft piano with some beat in the background, it's a simple, but a good listen.
  • "Yellow and Purple" is the theme of Five. Switching between a fast beat with drums and piano with sounds resembling Mario 64, it helps establish the ever joyful nature of her.
  • "Illusions": Aria's theme. Almost similar to Nino and Five's themes, but not quite. Like Five's theme, it switches between instruments, mainly guitar strings for more mellow and down moments and harp strings for more energetic ones. It overall has a feeling of a noble heart beset by an underlying sadness, fitting of Aria.
  • "Rosen Wings" is noticeably more game like, with a wild flute constantly playing but only occasionally following a melody. Considering Mei, it works incredibly well.
  • "Secret Bellow" takes a turn away from the other themes, with an aurora-like sound playing in the background with guitar and drums more in the forefront than previous themes. You can easily imagine Reed searching throughout the monster world for his dad and finding nothing, but still remaining determined.
  • "Surge" is the theme of Ruit, and while it starts off with an almost regal and professional tone, it lessens it as the song progresses, becoming significantly more casual, but never quite shaking the regality. Almost like Ruit's neglect for work and hidden kindness being hidden by a mask of royal excellence to his subjects.
  • "—- Amidst it All —-" is a bit more orchestral and isn't the theme of anybody in particular. On the cover art, Nino is surrounded by Sinister Silhouettes of various characters, and that's likely the point of the art and the song: that he's only one character in a story far greater than he could know.
  • "Iceshards" is a ragtime sounding tune, like the kind you'd hear in a bar. It works surprisingly well for Kaji.
  • "Fiery Depths" features heavy electric guitar over a basic drum beat and echoey beeping in the background. The image of Solis standing in front of a raging inferno seems frightening, but the underlying echoes of the tune clue the listener in on who he really is.
  • "Performance" is for Selene when she's not in character. It's short, rather whimsical, occasionally cinematic, but not overly serious, AKA exactly like Selene herself.
  • "Brought This (Upon Yourself)" gives off boss fight vibes, constantly swapping out a violin and bass, and seeming intense at points but calmer at others. A fitting tune for Corona, Nino and Aria's first real fight.
  • "Right Hand" is Lune's theme, and has a similar sound to the regal sections of Ruit's theme, but is noticeably softer than it. An odd feature is the piano having sections where it's muffled and others where it isn't, but it might be representative of her shadow-based ability and status as an Umbra.
  • "—- Ending —-" is Suvillan's theme. The major difference from the rest of the songs is how the piano is slightly lower than the other songs, but it overall seems rather lighthearted despite the more serious drumbeat the rest of the song plays over.
  • "Firefly" is Kotori's theme, and a bonus track. And it is certainly a Mind Screw, starting out sad, but becoming more energetic and bizarre very fast. It even plays certain certain sections backwards and also plays ordinary forest sounds with rain and a very quiet piano. Certainly an odd song for an incredibly mysterious character.
