Awesome Music / NEO: The World Ends with You

Go To

In true TWEWY tradition, Takeharu Ishimoto and his team show that they are incapable of making anything less than a fantastic soundtrack in NEO: The World Ends With You. Like before, the OST carries many different genres and styles of music.

  • "NEW GAME", the intro theme of the game, is a medley of several upcoming tracks, including "World is Yours," "INCONGRUOUS," "Twister," and "We're Losing You." Thus, it's a perfect teaser for both the game's range of musical styles and the events to come.
  • "SCRAMBLE" uses the same incredible melody with updated instrumentation as "SHADOW" from Final Remix, which is fitting since it serves as a musical connection between Final Remix and Neo in the same way Tsugumi's visions serve as the bridge between the two games.
  • "Transformation (NEO Mix)" is a remix of "Transformation" from the first game, making the rock track even more epic with its orchestral instrumentation and one hell of a build up at the start. It serves as the Leitmotif of Sho, and it plays during his more badass moments.
  • "Owari Hajimari received the most drastic change of the returning tracks from TWEWY, now feeling more like a rock rap with a lot more attitude that feels more in-line with NEO's heavier melodies.
  • "Kill the Itch" is, as the game puts it, a proper rock jam that will swing into your head. It's a great overworld theme with hard driving guitars and a rebellious feel.
  • "Hustle and Bustle" is a groovy, bubbly, upbeat track that you'll probably jam out to. It also serves as Motoi's boss theme.
  • The rock-rap "Storm" really evokes the feeling that despite being up against the world, you'll be badass enough to take it on. It serves as one of the overworld themes.
  • "INCONGRUOUS" mixes screamo, rap, rock, and pop all together somehow, and make it work. It is completely chaotic, but that also makes it pretty unique.
  • "Breaking Free" is a rock track that serves as one of the battle themes that really gives off the feeling of early 00's rock. The lyrics are very motivational, not giving into any pressure, not giving into insecurities, and breaking free of people's expectations about what kind of person to be, and ends with a pretty slick Title Drop of sorts.
My life's too precious to live shackled by insecurity
    Now I'm breaking free
I'm through with you and everybody else telling me
    Who I'm meant to be
    I'm taking back control
    The world ends with me
  • "bird in the hand" is a catchy experiment in combining clashing yet synergistic elements, such as using a female vocalist and a sampled male rapper or mixing playful acoustic guitar riffs with lively electronic beats. It works way too well.
  • "Your Ocean" is the first battle theme of the game and a kick ass rock track that summarizes Rindo's character arc in the game, encouraging listeners to fight for the life they want to live. It serves as a Theme Song Power Up in Week 3 Day 5 when Nagi encourages Fret not to be discouraged by the illusion of Kanon and plays in the Final Day as a regular battle theme to bring the story full circle.
  • "We're Losing You," Susukichi's theme, is a heavy metalcore song that screams against complacency, warning to fight against to corruptions of the world or else be eaten from the inside-out. It's theorized to be from Suzukichi's perspective, directed at the corrupted and now power-mad Shiba.
  • "LAST CALL" brings on a rush of drum n' bass for your first encounter against Tsugumi's army of Mr. Mews, urging you to act and not to look back before it's too late.
Don't think, just feel the power
There's no looking back, the train is leaving
    My heartbeat keeps getting louder
What's waiting for me in the next phase?
  • "Shibuya Survivor" plays in the battle against Iris Cantus. The song's heavy bassline drives the song forward, and the lyrics help to evoke a sense of wistfulness, which perfectly sets the tone for Shoka's conflicting emotions and struggle with Ayano in the third week.
    Everyone has two sides
And the back of the back
The more you try to know it
    The less you understand
  • "Unpainted," Shiba's boss theme, is a dramatic yet somber club song. While it sets the tone for a climactic battle with the Game Master, the lyrics are from the perspective of a painter who wistfully takes in the beauty of the world and wants to add to it. Perhaps this describes Shiba before he was twisted by Kubo.
  • "DIVIDE" plays in the third week and the battle against Soul Pulvis. A dark and emotional rock piece, for the most part it encapsulates the feelings of fear and uncertainty surrounding the third week, and especially the despair at having to fight against an endless horde of Noise, but the quiet section near the end offers a glimmer of hope.
  • "World is Yours" is the final boss theme, and arguably the game's main theme as it's the main component of "NEW GAME." A hard-hitting rock-rap Badass Boast, it both encapsulates the message of the game and the Wicked Twisters' resolve to defeat the "firebird," Phoenix Cantus.
    It's supposed to be hard
If it wasn't hard, everyone in the world would do it
The hard is what makes it great
Making mistakes is proof that you're challenged
    The World is Yours.
