Awesome / Yu-Gi-Oh!: Capsule Monsters

Go To

  • The series gave starring roles to Tristan, Téa and Solomon Muto, all underutilized characters in the main series.
  • Yugi outruns a Kamakiriman and manages to hide from it by diving in water and taking shelter behind a rock.
  • Celtic Guardian then appearing in time to save Yugi from said Kamakiriman before kneeling and pledging his Undying Loyalty to Yugi.
  • Téa and Tristan manage to outrun a bunch of Gokibores, sliding safely into a cave tunnel.
  • Téa and Tristan resolve to stay and fight Root Water despite its power.
    • Téa's Happy Lover heals and empowers a wounded Tristan and Thunder Kid, while Tristan uses the sun to blind Root Water, allowing Thunder Kid to hit it. When Root Water evolves into High Tide Gyojin and overwhelms them both, Solomon Muto and his Summoned Skull save the day.
  • Joey outmaneuvers a flock of Kurama while riding Baby Dragon, making them smash into a cliff too small for them to fly through.
  • When a group of Trents attack and strangle both Celtic Guardian and Yami Yugi, Yugi gives him the idea to ask Celtic Guardian to cut Yami free if he can't get himself free. Thus freed, Yami touches a new Capsule Rock, gains the fiery Hinotama Soul, and gives an epic line to the now very worried tree monsters.
Yami: I guess I should've warned you. Play with me, and you're playing with fire!
  • A group of Flower Wolves get one when they prove too numerous to handle, forcing the group to retreat.
    • Grandpa tries to fend them off with a torch. By himself.
    • The way everyone escapes is cool. Celtic Guardian throws his sword into the air and Thunder Kid shocks it, blinding the wolves and giving time for everyone to escape.
  • La Jinn the Genie of the Lamp easily blocks Celtic Guardian's attacks and is savvy enough to attack Yugi himself, not just his monster.
  • Yami Yugi refuses to let the others fight La Jinn out of worry they'll be hurt, but Joey tells him to let them help because they can't stand to see him get hurt. When Neo Aqua Madoor also attacks them, Yugi is determined to let everyone fight.
Yugi, to Yami: Don't even think of trying this alone! We need to work as a team!
  • The heroes defeat La Jinn and Neo Aqua Madoor by turning their own attacks against each other.
  • In episode 4, Yami is trapped in a room when the walls start closing in. Kuriboh comes to his rescue, helping him reach a new Capsule Rock that contains the Dark Magician.
  • After being taunted the entire way by Mystical Sand and seeing everyone else turned to stone, Yami Yugi makes his way into the eye of the sand tornado and merges with the Dark Magician and Yugi for the first time. He then utterly curbstomps the sand witch. The transformation sequence is also very well-animated.
  • Joey punches out an 800 ATK/1000 DEF Prisman.
  • Tristan figures out and solves the Puzzle of Light on his own, goading Prisman to blast a small hole in the unbreakable rock and finishing the job with Thunder Kid.
  • Yugi destroying the Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth with the Magician of Black Chaos.
  • The entire fight between Yami and a possessed Joey, as well as when the real Joey fights back long enough to help his friends win. When Joey comes to his senses, he pulls at the Chaos Blade embedded in the Red-Eyes Black Dragon despite it shocking him the whole way, and clears the challenge.
  • While traversing a maze, Joey gets attacked by Battle Ox's axe and not only dodges, he rolls to keep his balance.
  • The group's initial battle against the Fiendish Five has them split up and easily defeat the five dragons. When the dragons prove indestructible, Yami Yugi figures out the solution to the puzzle and is able to defeat them with the Sword of Divinity. Then the dragons get an awesome moment when they combine into the Five-Headed Dragon.
  • Joey saves a random villager from the Five-Headed Dragon by attacking it with his Red-Eyes.
  • Téa, Joey, Tristan, and Grandpa using their monsters to protect the villagers while Yugi fights the Five-Headed Dragon.
  • When Yami is injured in the fight against the Five-Headed Dragon, the girl chosen as a human sacrifice prays for the Blue-Eyes to aid him, joined by the other villagers. It awakens and aids Yugi, and he combines with it as Duel Armor.
  • Yami finishing off the Five-Headed Dragon by clamping their jaws shut, dragging them away, and unleashing a White Lightning attack that utterly destroys them. All that's left is a simmering crater.
  • When the evil Alexander is about to open the final door, Yugi tackles him. Tristan then piles on him, forcing him to back them all into the door.
  • Téa defeating Demoness Knight by seeing which of her clones casts a shadow.
  • Solomon Muto defeating Stealth Bird by using Curse of Dragon's fire to see where it's hiding by the ripples it gives off.
Solomon: Tag, you're it. [blasts it]
  • Alexander using the Seven-Armed Fiend to defeat each of Yugi's friends.
  • Alexander attempts to kill Yugi's grandpa by having the Seven-Armed Fiend attack him directly, and gives off an awesome line while doing so.
Alexander: Hahahahaha! I've toyed with you children for long enough, so allow me to put you out of your misery by unleashing the Seven-Armed Fiend's most devastating ability! Arm of Destruction!
Téa: He's aiming for Mr. Muto!
    Grandpa: Just my luck.
Yami: Don't you dare lay a finger on him!
Alexander: How about an entire hand?
  • Yami using his link to the Millennium Puzzle to trap Alexander's mind within it, preventing him and the Fiend from reading their minds. He then destroys the Fiend with one combined blast.
  • After Yami destroys the Seven-Armed Fiend, it cuts to Joey. He's blocking a Skull Knight's blade with his bare hands without even looking because he turned around to see what was going on.
  • Joey taunting Alexander the Great during the final showdown.
Joey: Hey, Alexander, guess you're not so great after all!
  • After Shovel Crusher and Dark Witch are destroyed, Joey is incensed and moves to attack Reshef directly.
Joey: I'll teach you to mess with my friends!
  • Yami attacks Alexander directly, saying that while Reshef provided armor from afar, up close it's not so. Alexander then reveals Reshef's multitude of omnidirectional laser beams.
  • Yugi stares down Reshef's city-destroying energy beam that obliterates everything in front of him without flinching.
  • The final battle comes down to Yugi/Yami refusing to allow his friends to be sacrificed to obtain victory and summoning all of his monsters to protect them. This show of friendship causes the others' dragons to combine with his armor, forming the Armor of Unity. Yami Yugi then punches a hole straight through Reshef's head, obliterating it and Alexander's evil side.
  • When Yami/Yugi is finally offered the power to control the world, he refuses it.
