Prologue
- The Epilogues open with an incredibly well-written (and terrifying) description of the destruction of the Green Sun at the hands of Alt!Calliope. Not only have Hussie and his co-authors managed to capture such an utterly mind-bending event in words, their description is so evocative and visceral as to utterly chill the reader to their bones. This is capped off with the first official "command" in over three years:> Wake up.
- The last few paragraphs of the first page of the Epilogues, driving home that everything over the last ten years really is about to come together. As you hang up the phone, a familiar feeling settles over you. A feeling of...standing? Standing, and being alone. In your bedroom. As a young man. On your birthday. You swear you’ve felt this feeling before. It’s almost like...A young man stands alone in his bedroom. It just so happens that today, the 13th of April, is this young man’s birthday. Though it was twenty-three years ago when he was given life, and ten years ago when he was given a name, it feels like it is only today that he will begin to understand what all that means. That young man is YOU, John Egbert.
- Rose calls John to her house to warn him that her visions have become worse, and that John's help is needed in preventing something disastrous from happening. What she says next drives home not only that the true Final Battle is on the horizon, but also that two of the most infamously unresolved storylines from the main comic will soon be resolved at last:Rose: There’s really no route through this expository garden path that will adequately cushion you from the bottom line, John.
Candy
- The story doesn't go into much detail about what Karkat was up to during his years leading the revolution, but that makes what little the audience is shown so much more awesome.
- Meenah becomes HIS second in command and even stops making fish puns because he told her to.
- At some point, he lost an eye and wears a badass eyepatch.
- (Vriska) kills Gamzee, the character known for being inexplicably immortal, by choking him.
- Jake finally managing to escape his horrible relationship with Jane.
Meat
- Dirk managing to wrest back control of the narrative, right under the nose of muse!Calliope's control. His megalomania may be concerning but he's still a capable badass.
- Heartbreaking as it is, Kanaya's unbridled rage when she realizes that Dirk has made off with her wife is truly a sight to behold. She's so furious that she loses her typing quirk and starts screaming in all caps and exclamation marks. Then she hurls a heart monitor out the window. Despite his omniscient narrative powers, even Dirk seems briefly intimidated by the sheer extent of how explosive her reaction was.Kanaya: I SWEAR THAT I SHALL MAKE HIM PAY DEARLY FOR STEALING MY BELOVED WIFE!
