• Alex knows that her cousin Jeff has a weird crush on her, especially since they're related. Jeff thinks that with his book deal and money that he can lure her back. She responds by blowing him off and advising her fiancé/later husband Toggle to ignore the guy.
• The long arcs concerning B.D.'s post-traumatic stress syndrome and slow return to civilian life are well-researched, emotionally raw, and considered to be a highlight of the entire run of the strip to date.
• Joanie laying down ground rules for Jeff after he has to move back in with his parents: he can rent the basement since they turned his room into a den, has to write for a certain number of hours a day so as to earn income, and must do his own chores. She then raises his rent when he says her surgery made her cold. Rick's smile in the throwaway gag is icing on the cake.
