Duality and how opposites define each other.
The major theme of the series is how opposites tend to define each other. Light versus dark. Good versus evil. Love versus hate. Throughout the story, references are constantly made to reflections, shadows and other selves. The major antagonist introduced is the One Below All who serves as the foil and Evil Counterpart to the benevolent Top God The One Above All. Whereas the One Above All is absolute control over physical reality but never influence the hearts or souls of sentient creatures, The One Below All is trapped outside of everything and can only influence the hearts and minds of sentient creatures. References are constantly made to Jung and the conscious and unconscious mind. How one contrasts the other but with a symmetry between them. During several of the issues the author talks about the Sefirot and the Qliphoth which are reversed of one another and represent the divine and the infernal.
