Moved from the original story's page

Added DiffLines:

* {{Narm}}: The color Magenta may have been chosen for FridgeBrilliance reasons but it's still not a color most people associate with a CosmicHorrorStory.

* HilariousInHindsight: The funny thing about ''Creator/NicolasCage'' starring in the film is that it wasn't too long ago that he played a [[WesternAnimation/SpiderManIntoTheSpiderVerse monochromatic noir version of Spider-Man]] with the joke being that being from a black-and-white universe and thus had never seen colors before. Here in the movie, Cage plays a victim of a sentient entity that is nothing ''but'' color.

** Given how much of a bigot Lovecraft was, that the makers of the movie decided to not only GenderFlip one of his characters as well as having an African American actor play a CompositeCharacter of some others, but made ''her'' the main protagonist and him the SoleSurvivor, can inspire some chuckles to some.

This looks like something that has nothing to do with the movie itself, and it's not particularly correct anyway: Not only is Ward not the main here (he's not even on screen for around half the movie) but the political points mentioned were not nor were they even intended to be heartwarming: making the central character female and the sole survivor African American is simply a "fuck you" to Lovecraft, who was an asshole so whatever, but this at best would fit Hilarious In Hindsight.

* HeartwarmingInHindsight:
** With Creator/HPLovecraft's inherent prejudices being a well-known and documented part of his storytelling, being so bad that he never had a person of colour or a woman as a narrator character (and all agree to it being far worse than [[FairForItsDay what other people in his time period believed in]]), Ward, an African American, being made the main hero of the film and Lavinia being a main character as well are at least a little heartwarming.
** The collective Gardners sharing a family meal together. For being a rather dysfunctional family at times, it's clear they still love one another and enjoy each other's company regardless. This feels like a calm in the storm before the titular color comes and destroys what little harmony they had to begin with.

* RelationshipWritingFumble: It's hard to tell whether Ward and Lavinia are supposed to be love interests or not. Lavinia is clearly attracted to Ward, but it's not clear whether he reciprocates her feelings, or is simply worried about her because he's a NiceGuy. Nor do we know how old Lavinia is - college age or high school? Ward is a college graduate (presumably, considering his Miskatonic U shirt) - what is the age difference between him and Lavinia?

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: The Color puts its victims through all sorts of strife seemingly by existing, ranging from cosmic horror to realistic terrors such as poverty and family strife. It's entirely possible that the Color is a sentient being that savours torment, in the same way a cat plays with its prey as it kills it. It's also possible that Ezra is correct, and that the Color is terraforming the area. [[BlueAndOrangeMorality It might not even be sapient or alive]].

** Did the Color affect time itself, or just the main character's understanding of passing time? Similar to doing something for so much, you loose track of what time it is, and end up wasting hours without noticing.
