Center: Lyle Walt. Surrounding him, his seven ancestors.
Seventh (セブンス Sevens) is a Japanese fantasy Light Novel series first published on December 28, 2015. The literary debut of Yomu Mishima (Trapped in a Dating Sim), it was illustrated by Tomozu and published by Shufunotomo Infos Co., Ltd.

Until recently, Lyle Walt was the heir to the House of Walt, an earldom in the Banseim Kingdom. A young man of merely reasonable skill with the blade, he was suddenly overtaken by his younger sister Ceres, who repeatedly defeated and humiliated him. Their parents ultimately turned their backs on him in favor of her, disinheriting him and expelling him from the estate, and breaking his engagement to their vassal's daughter Novem Fuchs.

He was nursed back to health by the family's elderly gardener, Zel, who gave him traveling money, but more importantly, a Jewel—a magical device containing the Ghost Memory of the first seven heads of the House of Walt. With these seven men a constant racket in his head, and Novem bankrolling him out of her dowry, he set out to make a name for himself as an adventurer, hoping one day to reclaim his title.

Seventh was published in English by J-Novel Club beginning 7 October 2022.

Examples:

  • Amazing Technicolor Population: Standard "anime hair" abounds: Lyle has pale blue hair to color-coordinate with his ice affinity, and his ancestors are in every color of the rainbow.
  • Cain and Abel: Lyle's archnemesis is his little sister Ceres.
  • Enfant Terrible: Ceres wrapped Meisel and Clare Walt around her little finger by the time she was about thirteen despite behaving every inch the Alpha Bitch to her older brother: she was fawned over by a train of suitors as a great beauty, and is also an inhumanly strong Magic Knight who repeatedly beat him in sparring matches to the point where he was disinherited in favor of her. Basil Walt infers that she is in fact a Heretical God's Child, a Dark Messiah figure. The author is well-known to dislike "little sister" characters and this is an expression of that.
  • Ghost Memory: The main conceit of the series is Lyle's possession of a Jewel containing the preserved personalities of the first seven patriarchs of the Walt dynasty, who alternately provide Lyle advice and bicker among themselves.
  • Greek Chorus: The seven prior family heads are a constant peanut gallery about Lyle's actions throughout the series.
  • Insecure Love Interest: Lyle is, at first, baffled that Novem still wants to be with him after he's lost his title, let alone bankrolling him to the hilt out of her dowry while they set themselves up as adventurers. She just loves him that much.
  • Undying Loyalty: Novem, who stays with Lyle despite him losing his status and their engagement being annulled.
