We don't actually know what the egg is, but it's not explicitly a hoax

* Retcon: The last Precursor egg from the second game, with all its plot importance, .
** To explain the jarring nature of this particular point, the egg was specifically stated by Metal Kor to physically house the life force of the last Precursor in existence, and that the entire point of him waging war against Haven City was so that he could obtain it and feed on it. It is also implied by Samos that Precursors themselves will be revived because of Jak's younger self freeing it.
--> Samos: ...And somewhere out there, an ancient race has begun again.

Thought about making a shortcut to the previous two games (most of all Jak II)

! Due to its nature as a sequel, spoilers for The Precursor Legacy and Jak II are unmarked. Administrivia/YouHaveBeenWarned.

per How To Create A Work Page, "Things not to include: value judgments (don't say how much they sucked/how awesome it was), critical reception (that's just a specific variant of value judgments), recommendations (don't tell us whether or not we should check it out), and plot spoilers."

After yet another long journey with even more crazy plot twists than before (as expected when the game was directed by the same woman who wrote the VideoGame/LegacyOfKain series), the trilogy's storyline is wrapped up, giving our heroes a satisfying conclusion. Like the previous games, Jak 3 was universally well received and was a hit in sales.

Asskicking Equals Authority has been renamed.

* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: In Spargus, they "value strength and survival above all." The whole "leader = Jerkass or BigBad" thing is averted though because King Damas is, deep down, a good guy. It's just that the survival of his people matters more to him than any individual citizen.

** The Beam Reflexor, if you use the Jump → Kick → Fire trick. Even more so so if you buy the upgrade for it that increases its reflections.

* UpToEleven: This is essentially what Naughty Dog did with each game mechanic from VideoGame/JakIIRenegade when making this game.
** Jak now has extra weapon mods, taking the grand total of guns up to twelve. That's three times the number of guns he had in the previous game.
** There are more vehicles this time around, from desert rides to zoomers to the new and improved Hellcat Cruiser.
** ExpansionPack environments compared with the previous game: while Haven City has shrunk compared with the original, this is more than made up for by the impossibly large desert region, Spargus City, and the Precursor TempleOfDoom. There are also missions in the Volcano, the Eco Mine, the expanded sewer system, the Floating War Factory, and even .
** More TimedMissions and BossBattle challenges, such as the Wastelander Rescue Mission and dark satellite battle, more Blast Bot encounters, and a one-against-three fight with the floating KG vehicles once you report to New Haven City.
** Some Minigames, like the jetboard challenge and 'find the orb' timed missions, make a comeback, but there's also FirstPersonShooter games, a RidingTheBomb mission, a ride down the Catacombs and even a pac-man style game.
** Dark Jak loses some of his abilities but gains others, and is joined with a Light Jak form, giving a grand total of eight new upgrades.
** Even the Jet-board has new features built into it, such as a permanent turbo option in the desert section and the small shock wave attack.
