* RunningGag: In the original ''[=EU III=]'', the event meteor sighted had only one option, which...caused your country to become less stable. The fan clamored for more options (as most events have multiple options), so Paradox added a second option...which had the exact same effect. Heir to the Throne added a third option (same effect) and Divine Wind, the latest expansion, a fourth.

** In ''IV'', the mechanic was replaced by the Agressive Expansion penalty gained by demanding provinces at peace talks, annexing personal union partners or vassals, or vassalizing countries. Instead of being a global score that warrants war from anyone, it is a relation penalty applied to your immediate neighborhood that, if too large, gives said neighborhood a propensity to form a coalition (a pact in which if one member declares war on you, all others do) against you.

** Sadly, many reviewers and fans consider the last one to be a DolledUpInstallment and TheScrappy of the series. The ExpansionPack made it much better. It was the first [=EU3=]-derived game to include detailed character mechanics, which led to (ultimately true) speculation that Paradox were working on ''VideoGame/CrusaderKings II''.

It was the first [=EU3=]-derived game to include detailed character mechanics, which led to (ultimately true) speculation that Paradox were working on ''VideoGame/CrusaderKings II''. The general consensus is that ''Rome'' is a completely separate entity from the rest of the series, and there is a vocal minority in the fanbase that is pushing for a ''Rome II''.

Untrue. Taiwan is called Taioan by the Dutch from the native language (while colonized as \"Formosa\"). And it is officially charted Taiwan as early as 1664 by the English (after the Dutch was expelled by Ming remnants.)

** It's only a semantic issue, but Taiwan wouldn't be called such until 1949. The proper name for the province should be Formosa.
