* In Series/NightCourt2023, the character of Neil, who had been portrayed by Kapil Talwalkar, disappears after the first season. In a season 2 episode, Judge Stone states that she doesn’t have a court clerk due to budget cuts, which implies that Neil was simply laid off.

Added DiffLines:

* In Series/SabrinaTheTeenageWitch, the character Libby Chessler (portrayed by Jenna Leigh Green) was a bully and antagonist for the first three seasons. At the beginning of season 4, Sabrina unceremoniously mentions that Libby has been sent to boarding school, and she is never seen again (although she was mentioned in one later episode).

** At the start of season 2, Lyla and Nixie are said to have joined the search for a new home for the Mako Pod, leaving Sirena to hold down the fort by herself until Mimmi and Ondina join her. They never return, even after the pod comes back to Mako Island, presumably still wandering the oceans.
** Erik leaves at the end of the second season after Ondina dumps him. He was already TheFriendNobodyLikes thanks to his AmbiguouslyEvil attitude, and after the disaster that was his activation of the Merman Chamber, there was nobody who wanted him around. Making up with Ondina was his last hope of having a connection to the gang, but when that failed, he jumped into the ocean and swam away in shame.

* Franchise/PowerRangers:

to:

* Franchise/PowerRangers:Franchise/PowerRangers has this happen frequently during the "Zordon Era", which refers to the first six seasons that took place in the same ongoing continuity. After the sixth season, each succeeding season would start with a blank slate, introducing a fresh cast of characters:

*** Tommy was depowered and sent off, as per the arc of his Japanese counterpart, Dragon Ranger, who actually died in the storyline of Series/KyoryuSentaiZyuranger and thus Saban exhausted their supply of Dragon Ranger footage to use for the Green Ranger. When FOX ordered an extra half-season of footage, Tommy came back, a change probably also required by the ratings - hence why he was suddenly a completely different ranger (they pulled the White Ranger footage from Dairanger.) It's particularly notable that Tommy didn't seem to actually go anywhere for the period he was depowered and it just seemed like in the dozen or so episodes between him losing and regaining his power Tommy just wasn't hanging out with the group that day barring a single guest appearance in what was supposed to be the original series finale. Once it's time to return him to the plot, in walks Tommy to meet up with the group like he never left. Tommy actually gets put on a bus AGAIN between the period where his Green powers finally give out and becoming the White Ranger but this period is much shorter, about 4 to 5 episodes and they actually do give a reason for his absence this time which is he went to his uncle's cabin for a much needed vacation.
*** Similarly the original Red, Yellow, and Black Rangers, Jason, Trini, and Zack, were sent to a peace conference and never appeared in the show again. The joke among the cast and crew of the show was that if you ever saw in a script that your character was going to a peace conference, you were never coming back. Jason did, however, becoming the SixthRanger of Series/PowerRangersZeo and making a couple more guest appearances.

** Mark (Creator/PaulSchneider), after the government shutdown and Ann dumping him, decides to leave his city planner job to take a private sector job at the end of Season 2. Although the writers left the door open for a return and planned to have Mark reappear every once in a while, those plans never came to fruition due to Schneider having no desire or interest in coming back after feeling like the show left him and his character behind when it was Retooled in that season.

* Happens thrice (with a fourth time narrowly averted) on Series/ParksAndRecreation.
** Mark (Paul Schneider) leaves to take a private sector job at the end of Season 2. Rumor has it that Paul Schneider was unhappy with the way the show went and decided to leave after two seasons.
** Halfway through season 6 Ann (Creator/RashidaJones) and Chris (Rob Lowe) move to Michigan to start a family.
** At the beginning of season 6 Andy (Creator/ChrisPratt) is taking a job in London for a time as Pratt was busy filming Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy2014. TheBusCameBack, though.
** It was considered writing out April (Aubrey Plaza) at the beginning of season 6, with her planning to become a veterinarian. The writers did have her change her mind in the last moment though, as losing both April and Andy as well as the upcoming departure of Ann and Chris would have been too much for the show to handle.

The writers did have her change her mind veterinary school in another state, claiming she just had "a gut feeling" that it wasn't the last moment though, right thing for her. This plotline being an AbortedArc likely came about as a result of the creative team figuring that losing both April and Andy as well as the upcoming departure of Ann and Chris would have been too much for the show to handle.

* This is the fate of the Number Three Cylons in Series/2003. After a Number Three Cylon disobeys the consensus of the other Cylon models, it's decided that the Number Three models are inherently flawed. Series/Charmed1998, the next Aaron Spelling product that Doherty starred in, went one further when the actress was dismissed (again) and killed off her character.

When FOX ordered an extra half-season of footage, Tommy came back, a change probably also required by the ratings - hence why he was suddenly a completely different ranger (they pulled the White Ranger footage from Dairanger.)

When FOX ordered an extra half-season of footage, Tommy came back, a change probably also required by the ratings - hence why he was suddenly a completely different ranger (they pulled the White Ranger footage from Dairanger.)) It's particularly notable that Tommy didn't seem to actually go anywhere for the period he was depowered and it just seemed like in the dozen or so episodes between him losing and regaining his power Tommy just wasn't hanging out with the group that day barring a single guest appearance in what was supposed to be the original series finale.
