Such subtext is inherently romantic/sexual but questionably accurate, whereas the old description here implied that it's necessarily inaccurate. Adding the word "explicit" accommodates works using subtext and playing with the relationship, without requiring a major change to the description (which would risk making it inaccurate in other ways).
