** Season 1, 3rd Life, ends with the winner pulling a LastSurvivorSuicide; Season 2, Last Life, ends with the winner being killed by supernatural means shortly after their victory. Season 5, Secret Life, is the only season to play this trope fully straight ''without'' an EverybodyDiesEnding.
** Season 3, Double Life, being built on a CantLiveWithoutYou soulmate gimmick, means it's impossible for one member of a soulmate pair to live without the other, resulting in this trope being functionally impossible. In the end, one member of the last soulmate pair standing decides to kill themself to give their soulmate the win, resulting in said soulmate dying ''a split-second'' after the suicide.
** Season 4, Limited Life, plays on a DeathsHourglass mechanism, resulting in an inevitable EverybodyDiesEnding and making the winner's status as this temporary.

* In ''Film/{{Five}}'', .Charles and Barnstable were together when the bomb went off and so knew at least one other person had survived, but Michael, Roseanne and Eric each believed they were sole survivor of the DepopulationBomb that wiped out humanity until [[TheLastManHeardAKnock they encountered each other]].

** In ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'', Aang awakens after 100 years frozen in an iceberg and is told nobody has seen another Air Bender for almost 100 years, they are believed wiped out by the Fire Nation. At first, he doesn't believe it they could have been wiped out until he returns to the [[DoomedHometown Southern Air Temple]] and discovers that he is, in fact, the sole survivor of the Fire Nation's act of genocide.

*** In the third season, there's a ''villainous'' example: Zaheer is the only [[BombThrowingAnarchists Red Lotus]] member to survive the events of the finale. There are other members, but none as notorious or well-known as his group.
*** During the series finale, Asami is the Sato family's last survivor, because her mother was killed by the Agni Kai triad when she was 6, and her father perished at the hands of Kuvira.

** Ashi is confirmed to be the sole surviving sister of the Daughters of Aku.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'': In the first short from "[[Recap/TheSimpsonsS9E4TreehouseOfHorrorVIII Treehouse of Horror VIII]]", Homer believes himself to be this, having been scouting potential bomb shelters while the French neutron bomb wiped out the population of Springfield. However, he soon learns there's also a group of highly irradiated mutants (including Flanders, Moe, Dr. Hibbert and more) who want to eat his skin, and eventually finds out that his family survived the blast unharmed due to the lead paint in their house. Johnny and Edgar Winter are also inexplicably in Springfield, having seemingly arrived after the blast, but Homer [[AlbinosAreFreaks mistakes them]] [[MistakenForUndead for mutants]] and runs them down.

* In ''TabletopGame/{{Paranoia}}'', this is actually a recommended way to win--you can [[DeceasedFallGuyGambit blame all the bad stuff on the dead]], and take credit for all the good stuff "without fear of contradiction". But sometimes The Computer is suspicious of Sole Survivors, so it may be better to let a couple live and bribe/blackmail them into backing up your story.

* As of ''Film/TransformersTheLastKnight'', [[RabidCop Barricade]] is the only member of Starscream's original band of Decepticons who's still alive from [[{{Film/Transformers}} the first movie]].
