The problem was that A: These refugees have been under warlord rule for practically their entire lives. B: The Heroes not only attacked the MSF soldiers out of the blue for no reason, but also smashed up the medical supplies that the MSF was providing to the refugees. C: The heroes were never there when they suffered, and then intervened when they received help from a third party. And lastly, the refugees were completely pissed at how utterly arrogant and stupid the heroes were. The refugees predictably attack the heroes while freeing the captured MSF members.

Specifically, when said boyfriend was meeting her parents. Jean, unsurprisingly, blows up, having been under a lot of pressure to begin with, and ends up taking it out on [[spoiler: Maddie]], who is miserable because she didn't want to hurt Jean and was only trying to help.
** It's also played seriously earlier on in the sequel in the case of Harry's friends after he returns to Hogwarts -- having been through an epic TraumaCongaLine, he really does not have the patience for teenage idiocy anymore.
