Everything's better with llamas, right? Not if you happen to make one angry. In addition to being considered [[InherentlyFunnyWords just plain funny]] llamas (and other members of the camel family, or camelids) are notorious for their tendency to spit when they get irritated. Needless to say, this naturally lends itself to ToiletHumor, and pretty much any comedy TV show or movie that involves these animals will have at least one spitting joke.

In real life, the so-called "spit" of llamas and camels isn't technically spit at all, but semi-digested food from their first stomach, similar to the cud that cattle and sheep chew. While they certainly ''can'' spit it a long distance if they need to, they typically only do this as a last resort -- this is especially true of camels, for whom it can be a waste of moisture. Don't expect either of these aspects to be brought up in fiction. Fictional camelids are more likely to be portrayed as literally spitting on their enemies, and doing so at the least provocation, or none.

See also SmellySkunk, for another animal whose defenses get played for comedy. Often found in a GrossoutShow, but by no means exclusive to them. If the spit goes to the eye, may lead to EyeScream. If the spit does some kind of damage, whether blinding or HitPoints, it overlaps with SuperSpit.
